Me and my buddy took a hike at a local park nearby and were looking for a place to reward ourselves. I was looking for something nearby that wasn't overly expensive and King Burrito kind of popped up and thought to myself, royalty in the name? Has to be good. King Burrito is located off Midland and 67. I never really venture in this area and can be a little hard to find if your eyes aren't 100%. The exterior is part of a strip mall full of authentic related stores and hole in the walls. You walk inside and just feel like you're in a Mexican kitchen. It's not very big, but there is a good amount of seating. The menu was pretty large with plenty visible options, which I loved. The service was phenomenal in my opinion. From start to finish, our waitress was very attentive and always asked if we needed anything. We got our food really fast, as well as our chips and salsa. Nothing more you could ask for service wise here. The food was decent. It didn't knock my socks off but it was definitely unique. Mexican places are hard to distinguish from each other and this place has that authentic touch that differentiates themselves from a lot of other places. It's not your typical fixins, but it was pretty good. I ordered the chicken burrito and it was delicious with various flavors exploding in my mouth. The chicken was a bit dry for my taste, but the flavor made up for it big time. The salsa was spicier than most I've had which is a huge plus. Who doesn't want more firepower? Overall this place has that unique Mexican hole in the wall feeling and it's a great place to grab breakfast or a quick lunch. It's very reasonably priced for what you get. Been here a couple times before for their awesome burritos, but went there the other day for the first time in ages (no fault of theirs, I just live in St Charles and haven't been over there in that neck of the woods for awhile), to pick up an order of nachos to try for the first time, and they didn't disappoint. It was a very large portion of nachos, with lots of ingredients, not full of lettuce to make it look like hige portions like alot of places do. It tasted wonderful, and best of all, they didnt make any mistakes when i asked for no sour creal, guacamole, peppers. Its so frustrating when restaurants cant get simple requests like that correct. Grabbed lunch here for the first time, it was pretty good. The girl working the cashier was super nice and didn't rush me. I ordered a grilled steak fajita burrito. The burrito itself was a 7/10, my biggest gripe is, the tortilla is way too small for all the things they try to pack in it. Had to open it up and eat some of the stuffings before folding it back up. By that point the burrito had gotten a little moist and it was a challenge to eat. Get some salsa verde on the side, careful, it has some kick! read more

Authentic Mexican! This place is a delicious dive and should be featured on DDD! We went on Sunday around lunch and had to wait for a table as each table was full. Luckily someone was getting up as we arrived so we didn't have to wait long! We tried the carne asada and the chicken chimichanga. The chicken inside the chimichanga was all dark meat. Excellent green chili, perfectly seasoned and cooked steak, a crispness in the chips and creamy beans topped with perfectly cooked eggs. It all sums up to YUM!!! Every meal is always compared to a standard. The stardard has been set and King Burrito is the name. I have been coming to this place when it was origianlly Donut Brothers. The menu was limited to breakfast items and some tacos. The menu has been expanded and glory to god in the highest that it has been. Being a foodie expert if you will, i judge the food based on three things. I eat with my eyes first. If it looks like a great meal, walks like a great meal 9 out of 10 times it will be a great meal. The smell of of great food needs no explaining. Aromatics can bring memories good or bad but with great food it always begins with a grin that shines into a smile. Last but certainly not least, taste. The most important component of all. King Burrito excels in all three depts. I havent even began to discuss service. That's just a cigar in the brandy room or a that cigarette after sex but to me its the small piece of chocolate at the bottom of the waffle cone when your done. The shell is just the perfect crunch. The shell has a that has two layers but one shell. Like a double shell which helps the taco holds it form after first bite. Not like your home made one that breaks apart in your hand. I ordered the Camarones Soup (shrimp) it looks like 15 count shrimp ( those that cook know what size that is) more less just a tadd underJUMBO. I know just enough Spanish to get myself into trouble. Last month at another family run "hole in the wall" Mexican restaurant, I thought I would order and converse in nothing but Spanish. Instead of the taco and enchilada that I intended to order, I ended up with a taco and 3 enchiladas, rice, and re-fried beans. So this time I stuck to English. Wifey was having dinner with one of her girlfriends so I decided to treat myself to a new place and King Burrito had good reviews on Yelp, and it's only about 10 minutes from my house. After getting on line and looking at their menu I called in a carry-out order for camarones costa azul. This is grilled shrimp, with red and green peppers, onions, pineapple, and bacon. The dinner plate came with refried beans, rice, and 4 steamed tortillas. My order, for $10.95 plus tax was ready when I arrived at King Burrito 15 minutes later. As others have stated this is a small family run place in a strip center in Overland on Midland, just east of Link. After paying I took my food home and it was still warm when I sat down at the kitchen table. It was all delicious. A great mixture of tastes and textures. There was a small container of sauce that was way too hot for this old "gringo's" palate. The portions were generous. Two people could easily make a meal out of all of the food they served me. I enjoyed it and will take my wife back to King Burrito soon and this time we'll eat our food in the restaurant. The menu is very extensive and I plan on trying something new each time we go there. Stumbled across this place yesterday for lunch. The place was packed but we were able to find a seat. Had tacos de carne asada and one chorizo and boy they were spot on. Meat was tender and very flavorful, Onions and cilantro topped it off. We also ordered he fajita quesadilla and it was delicious. Salsa and chip provided, salsa was very flavorful. My buddy and I went on a "hike" around Creve Couer Lake and this wasn't too far out of the way and I'm never around Midland so why not try something out that way. Well let me say... I was really on the fence between a 4 and a 5 star with this one. It definitely deserves a 4 and a half star review (WE NEED HALF STAR RATINGS YELP, MAKE IT HAPPEN)... but I ultimately decided on a strong 4. It is located in a strip mall and is very easy to miss if you aren't looking for it. We arrived and the service was very good from the beginning. The place is a little tight when you walk in but has ample seating along a narrow passageway. We were started with the customary chips and salsa that all the local Mexican eateries generally offer. This one had the salsa in refashioned ketchup bottles which was unique. The salsa was very spicy which is kinda meh to me but it was still good. I ordered the chimichanga which was served with a side of rice. The queso was a little thin and not all that flavorful (hence the 4 instead of the 5) but overall I was very satisfied with the plate as a whole. The one thing I'll say is that chicken had a different taste to it. It almost tasted like grilled chicken you'd get from a Chinese restaurant in the chimichanga. Not a bad thing. Just different. I'd recommend it to anybody. I would come back if ever in the area. read more

Wow! This place is a hidden gem. I'm visiting family and I live in LA and I'd have to say this is a great Mexican Restaurant. If you want bells and whistles it's not for you, but if you're looking for great Mexican food this is the spot. I ordered Togo. We ordered chicken Quesadillas for the kids (very good), a burrito, carne asada and chicken tacos, and the Chicken enchiladas (my favorite) also guacamole (very fresh) and horchata. It's a chill spot with limited seating. But the place was packed and had guests waiting for tables when I went in to pick up. Always a good sign. So happy I found this spot! First time here, and was pleasantly surprised at how large the restaurant is. I ordered a regular burrito with ground beef, to go. Waited a few minutes, received my order, and left. Got home and opened up my burrito and it was HUGE!! It was so big that I had to save the rest for the next day. Tasted great (both times) - yum! Have not been back but will definitely return again. Time to bump this place up on the Tommy scale. They've upped their service in the last year or so and the food is really good. The last two times I had the three taco meal. I've tried pollo, carne asada, al pastor and chorizo. All of them were excellent. Great food, service, price, quick and easy for lunch. I couldn't want anything more. I love trying little independent Mexican restaurants, so I was excited when I heard about King Burrito. Located in a nondescript strip mall with a small Mexican grocer a few doors down, it's the kind of place that only the locals seem to know about. The extensive menu includes the standards such as tacos, sopes, tortas, and burritos, but I came for one thing, the pambazo. A pambazo is very similar to a torta sandwich, but the bread is dipped into a red pepper sauce. King Burrito's version came with chorizo, fried potatoes, lettuce and sour cream in a huge torta soaked in red sauce and grilled to toasty perfection. It's a messy sandwich, so be prepared to get your hands dirty or use a fork and knife. This Mexican sandwich is a rare find in St. Louis, but KB's version was better than the one I've tried on Cherokee Street. Although it was a little skimpy on the meat, it was packed with flavor. The house hot sauce, served in a squeeze bottle, added a nice spicy kick to the sandwich. I also sampled a few bites of the special of the day, costillas en salsa verde (pork ribs), served in a green sauce with a side of rice, beans and corn tortillas. It was good and came close to the home cooked version I've had, however it is something I'd only have on occasion. The huge menu board also listed breakfast items such as pancakes, waffles and omelette. Hot foods included wings and burgers. I found it a bit odd that taco and burrito options only included chicken or steak, but I guess they tend to keep it simple. Another unusual item for St. Louis is the huevos divorciados which is eggs with half red, half green sauce. I'll probably go for that with chilaquiles on my next visit. Overall, I enjoyed my visit here. It's a simple setup where you order at the counter and then sit down to wait for your food. read more

We went there for breakfast on a Sunday right at the time they opened at 8 am. We got a warm welcome and seated right away and served freshly brewed very delicious coffee. They have a really good menu for breakfast. I got huevos rancheros and my husband got chilaquiles deluxe. Both dishes were very good. Everything was prepared from scratch fresh including the sauces. It's not uncommon to go to a Mexican restaurant where you get dishes bathed in ready made sauces and tasting artificial but this place is not one of them. Prices are very affordable for the value you are getting. My husband has been to this place for lunch and dinner as well and he was very happy with the dishes he got and the service. I definitely recommend this place for an authentic Mexican flavor and great service. read more

A tiny authentic Mexican restaurant tucked away in a small strip mall. I'm always passing it by. Why not give it a try. I stopped by around four-ish and thought I might as well make this my main meal. I was hungry so I ordered the steak quesadilla along with a veggie nacho as my appetizer. The quesadilla came with a small side of rice and beans and an even smaller side of guacamole salad. The quesadilla itself was quite large and filled with ample strips of grilled steak and lots of gooey melted Chihuahua cheese tucked inside a tortilla and then grilled to perfection. The beans and rice appeared to be homemade and were nicely seasoned. The quacamole salad (a tiny scoop of quac on a bed of shredded lettuce) was so small I don't remember eating it. Even though I managed to eat some of my appetizer, I saved my nacho review until last. This restaurant could have been five stars if it weren't for the nachos. Maybe I shouldn't have ordered the nachos. The chips were fresh and tasty; unfortunately, the dish itself was extremely messy and difficult to eat. The beans were as runny as the queso that covered the chips. Not to mention, thin sour creme was then squirted over the entire dish. Even the jalapeno slices that adorned the appetizer appeared to come out of a jar. Every topping on my mountain of chips looked as if it came out of a squirt bottle. Nice try. Since I can't give the restaurant three and a half stars I will give it four for now. Use fresh jalapenos. Please. read more

If I hadn't seen the yelp review of this place, I'd have not eaten here. I got here in the dark (stupid daylight savings time) and the light on the sign was burned out, parking lot fairly dark, definitely wouldn't have even known it was there (even if the sign hadn't been burned out I still would've had a hard time spotting it from the road...) But I glanced in the window, and decided to give it a whirl. I was the only gringo in the place, but that's ok by me. This is a place most people speak spanish... but the menu is pretty easy to read even for a "gringo". The waitress definitely wasn't fluent, but we figured it out ok. I ended up going with the torta hawaian, and dang it was amazing! pineapple, chorizo, bacon, green chili, guacamole, and the bread itself was real good too! For the price I thought it was pretty reasonable. Really good stuff. read more

Hidden gem tucked away in a forgotten strip mall! Wandered into this place because I was waiting on laundry at the laundromat a few doors down. What a serendipitous find! If you are a lover of authentic Mexican food in an authentic environment, you will love this place. It's small, with about 6-8 tables plus a counter. They offer table service and to go. I had the tacos al pastor and they were perfect. A side of guacamole revealed some of the best I have ever had!!! Their menu is extensive & includes breakfast. They also have pastel de tres leches for dessert. I can't wait to come back & try more of this new favorite spot!
