We enjoyed our last minute dinner here. We went late-ish on a Tuesday and it wasn't too busy. We ordered spinach and artichoke dip and a bread basket for the appetizer. The dip was very fresh and not heavy, which I preferred to the really creamy kind at most restaurants. I wouldn't order the bread basket again. It was just ok. The cinnamon butter was really good though. For our main meal, we ordered the filet with a baked potato- very tender steak, grilled cheese for the kiddo- huge Texas toast bread, and I order the crab stack- tasty and refreshing for the summer. No complaints here at all. Our waiter was very efficient, but he didn't seem like he really wanted to be there. I don't think he smiled once. It didn't ruin our meal, but it was noticeable. When I heard that the old Willie G's that flooded during Harvey was going to be turned into the King Ranch concept, I was excited to try it. While my mom was in town, I figured it would be a great time to try. Had reservations for a Thursday night. Glad I did, since it was fairly busy (Open Table). The interior is nice, but also feels kind of touristy with the in your face King Ranch products for sale right at the front. Our server was a nice little guy. He was very attentive and kept our water glasses full. The food was hit and miss. The house salad was fresh and ample. The lime dressing was a little too light. Probably should have asked for a side of dressing to give it a little more flavor. The side salads are $6 or $9 for the large. My mom and I split the large. It gave us 3 full servings. They offered to split it, but I think you get screwed when you let them "split" it for you. I went with the 12 oz. strip ($36) and my mom went with the Kingsville Chicken ($23). My steak was decent, but kind of a disappointment for being a steakhouse though. My mom's Kingsville chicken was ~2/3 the price and 10X better. It was overflowing with a huge avocado, peppers, unions, and cheese. So much flavor. Definitely a better choice. I didn't drink, but my mom had a house rocks margarita (believe it was $12). She was not very impressed with it. Well the King Ranch was okay, nothing I would be included to go to often. I would not fight my group from wanting to go, but I just think there are way better steakhouses and better restaurants at this price point in Houston. I had my first experience at King Ranch this week, and loved it. My family had celebrated a birthday there a couple of weeks ago but I was out of town so missed the experience. So, when I arrived back to Houston, we went again. Our waiter, Devon, was delightful and did an excellent job making sure everyone had what they needed, which is not easy with a party of 11 ranging in age from 86 to 2 weeks. I ordered a half rack of ribs, which was served with fresh cut french fires. Both were delicious. Everyone raved about their meals. Excited to go back and try the crab cake!! Good spot but ambience was lacking because of inattentive service. We were seated near large family who had four children. I am ok with kids - I know they are loud and I know they aren't adults so I set my expectations. However, these kids were just plain bad. Screaming at the top of their lungs, throwing food and silverware, and the adults pretended it wasn't happening. In fact, one adult in the group was screaming along with the children just as much (and the kids were old enough to know better). I think the restaurant should have stepped in. We spent $200 on dinner and I don't think it's ok to have to listen to rowdy kids. Others seated around us felt similarly and one table left early.
