Went there last week and had the Kashmiri chai. Not bad. Also had the chocolate barfi. That was pretty good. Will definitely come back.

There are lots of sweet shops on Devon avenue which offer Indian sweets. Making them at home is time consuming, so I prefer buying them from the shop. We don't have any Indian sweet shop in Champaign. So while I was in Chicago, I bought sweets from almost all the sweet shops. This shop was big, so it drew my attention towards it. I bought gulab jamun, Cham Cham, boondi laddoo and rasgulla. I would have bought a whole lot of other sweets too but as usual my husband stopped me from giving in to my madness. Thankfully he did so, because none of the sweets tasted good. I'm not comparing them to other shops on Devon avenue but how we get in India. The taste is so different. Boondi laddoo is usually considered safe choice but here that also tasted wrong. Boondi was not moist but chewy. Cham Cham and rasgulla were dry, gulab jamun did not have the taste of khoya which I look for in gulab jamuns. Guess, I will have to start making sweets at home only. read more

Disgusting chaat papri and sweets. We got the gulab jaman and burfi. Should have known when we walked into this nearly empty place on a Monday night (while Tahoora was jumpin) that this wasn't going to be good, even the strong smell of cleaning solution was a sign. And yet we stayed and I regret it. Plus $6 for a small plate of chaat is just a rip off. Don't come to this place, you are better off saving your dollars for any of the other great places on this street. read more

Its a good place. It definitely have taken over the crowd of Tahoora who lost lots of business lately. Their Samosas are fine. King Sweets is more famous for their Parathas. Their sweets are ok. They have much better Samosa chant then other places on Devon. One thing you should try if you go, it calls "Ajmeri Qalaqand" It is delicious. King sweet have some dishes they are just best and that's what brought them business. read more

My experience about king is very good they have good food, the quality is good and prices are reasonable they have variety of foods over there..! Specialty foods are paya,chicken makhni,sheikh kabab, different types of paratha and more..!! read more

We went to purchase some Habshi Halwa for a reception dinner. We needEd 20 pounds of it but they had 15 pounds and We agreed to buy it. when asked about the price he said 9 per pound. The pamphlet had 7 dollars per pound. The guy at the counter said that is an old pamphlet and the new price is 9 dollars. We bought it for that price. We then went to Aijwaan sweets which is a block away to get some more Habshi Halwa and the price there was 7.25. We felt that King Sweets cheated us. Not good at all. read more

King Sweets The black pepper cashews alone are worth a visit. It's bright and clean and inviting on the inside. The staff were very friendly and encouraging. They were willing to answer questions with smiles and patience. Husband and I got some sort of honey soaked donut stuffed with cream. And a square of what looked like white fudge but tasty more cheesy and grainy, but not necessarily in a bad way. I'm, honestly, not a freak for Indian desserts. They have the best vegetable samosa in devon! WAAAYYY better than tahoora's! They have just the right amount of crunch and vegetable filling! I love the crunchiness! The sauces which come with it are great too! I always rave about these samosas! You must try them, you'll never forget it! :D read more

The best parathai not too greasy with really nice thin layers just how I like it and papdi chat is also the best on Devon also their ras malai is amazing!!! Their chicken bun kabob is okay nothing special i have yet to try other items once I do I will update!! read more

We were hungry at 10 am and this is one of the few places that opens for breakfast on Devon. We were the only people there when we got there and service was prompt - fast casual style. We got omelet parathas, channa curry and coffee. The portion size is big and the prices so reasonable. They had a wide selection of Indian and Pakistani sweets that looked great. Ever since my Old Delhi introduction to jalebi in Chowdy Chouck several years ago, I have been searching North America for jalebi that lives up to the Delhi standard. King Sweets may not match the standard set in Chowdy Chouck but it is pretty darn close. When I am in Chi-town, I make sure to visit Devon and get some jalebi for the flight home... Be sure to sample the jalebi while it is freshly warm from the shop for the best taste! read more

I bought a box of Mithai, but gave it as a gift, so I can't review that. What I did eat from here was the keema fry and a paratha. Large portion (the keema got me through three meals) but I found it a bit oily and lacking flavor. It did taste pretty good mixed with a bit of the pickle, salad and yogurt they provided, though. Service was good, but if I go back...I'll try some of their chaat type stuff instead. read more

Amazing place on Devon Ave! I have a huge sweet tooth and needed my sugar fix after lunch. We came here on a Friday at 1:02 PM and they were closed for an hour :( We roamed around and came back. So glad we did. We got the Kashmiri Chai and carrot halwa along with some sweets to take back home. I would highly recommend getting the chai and the halwa. The halwa actually has koya in it, and it was fresh and hot when we ordered. The chai had a unique flavor to it, and had ton of slivered almonds. Was craving halwa puri and saw the review mention that this place was known for it so I gave it a shot. Overall really solid place. Service was really friendly. Puris were out of this world good. As before, the food is good. Potato samosas are still going strong. I tried the Aaloo Paratha, which was good, but they seemed to skimp on the potato filling. Staff were nice. The reason I knocked two stars is because of the bathroom. My wife told me that the women's washroom was so unappealing that she felt like leaving the store, never to return...but she only stayed because we had ordered food. I need not go into detail about what I heard about the bathroom, but let's just say even I don't really feel like going back now......yes, what I heard was so bad, that I knocked off not one, but two stars. read more

Went to carry out food from the restaurant. The owner with a graying beard, coughed out a mouthful of phlegm and spat in the sink behind him at the counter. There was food on either side of the sink but that did not deter him from spitting openly and in full view of his customers. When I pointed out his despicable act of spitting in the kitchen sink, he responded with " it's not in the kitchen"! One of the neighboring shops told me that the restaurant had been closed by Chicago Health Departments Health Inspector for a couple of weeks recently. Apparently that has not deterred the owner from his unhygienic practices and in all probability spreading infections. NEVER AGAIN! read more

I came in here with a craving for Gulab Jamun (milky fried dough drenched in a cardamom/rosweater syrup) but left with a few more treats. I sampled their Ras Malai (yes, you can ask for samples in this place!) and it satiated my sweet tooth. I love the creaminess of the milk broth and sweetness level was perfect for my taste. This was by far the worst online ordering experience I've had through eat24. It took over 2 hours to get food delivered to Lakeview on a Sunday. I first got an alert that eat 24 was unable to confirm with the restaurant after 20 minutes, so I called and had to reorder. By time it arrived, it was lukewarm, and they forgot the 2 samosas I'd ordered. That said the food was good, nicely spiced and everything, but I'll stick to closer Indian restaurants next time. read more

Met up some friends here for lunch. Ordered the chicken Biryani which was disappointing as it clearly was not fresh .Ended up trying their paratha with a beef Shami kabob and beef samosa. I was very impressed with the paratha not so much with the Kabab. The Samosa was cold which is never good. When in Devon always take chaat to go. Usually I do spinzer for chaat but since I was here gave them a try. Chaat was ok but not as good as Spinzer. Tried some mithai which was delicious. Overall pretty typical Devon place with some really good items and others not so much. I will get Mithai or snack items but not an entree again. read more

Happen to be in the area with my wife and we both had a tasting for Indo-Pak. Just wanted to run in someplace, grab a few things and head home to enjoy our finds. Hadn't tried King Sweets yet, so we parked and headed on in. A sign for Kulfi was what caught our eyes. We ordered a Frontier Chicken, a mix of beef and veggie samosas, halwa puri and the veggie fritters, along with two mango kulis on a stick. Took our order home and......no kulfis....the reason why we went in.....and we didn't have the receipt. Our bad for not checking the bag before leaving, but shame on the old man for trying to rip us off. Well...for ripping us off. Hunger won and we chose to deal with it and eat our meal. It was.....good. Not the best either if us have tried on Devon. It was average and greasy. The puri were drenched in oil, the frontier chicken had flavor, but no real POW!!! And the serving sizes were small. The suji ka was flavorful however. Not sure I'd go back. But, am always open to giving places second chances. read more

Jalaibhi thats what they sold to my friend and when I had a bite I tasted burnt oil but no taste of Jalaibhi flavour at all, its so hard to have a bite and resembled like an iron rod. worst Jalaibhi I ever ate in my life. if there is any negative rating then I will be so happy to give that. read more

Love this place. The snacks are great, the place is clean and the staff is very friendly. I love their Pakistani style beef/chicken burger while my wife is a fan of the gol gappa or pani puri (small deep fried hard dough eaten by filling in tamarind water in the hard dough shell...can't describe any better way :-)). Their samosa chat is also very good. On the desserts side, I like their gulab jaman and rus malai. This place beats Tahoora (across the street) hands down and is better than any other sweet shop on Devon. read more
