I wanted something different for lunch and decided to go here to be adventurous and figured this place would be good because of the positive reviews, but my experience wasn't very good. I ordered the pork chop with rice since that was what the waitress recommended. The pork chop was decent in terms of flavor but it could have used a sauce or something to enhance the flavor because I got bored of the pork chop taste after the 4-5 bites. It also wasn't crispy which sucked. There was some liquid on the bottom of the pork chop which probably explains why it was soggy. I included a picture along with the review for reference. Some parts of the pork also looked pink so I didn't eat it. The rice was ordinary, nothing special about it. It was kinda weird how they added scrambled eggs on the side and I didn't eat much of it since it was lukewarm and it didn't look appetizing. The vegetables were good though. I also got the pork chop with noodle soup which was also disappointing. The broth was really bland, but at least the noodles were decent and not clumped together. The pork chop for this dish came with a big bone piece which I'm not sure why they bothered including because there was barely any meat on it lol. Service at this place wasn't great either. I should have known something was off when the waitress didn't offer to seat us after waiting for 15 minutes when there was a free table. I had to go up to ask for a table again and then I was seated at the empty table I mentioned. She wasn't very welcoming and just threw the menu on our table and gave us a container of water without any cups. The water was also lukewarm. I'm glad they gave us some free tea with the meal because it was tasty and cold. I felt like the waitress just wanted to get us in and out even though the restaurant wasn't really busy. Overall I would not recommend this place because of the subpar food and lackluster service. If you want some Taiwanese food you'd best look elsewhere. read more

Pretty decent fried pork chop rice plate! I came here with a couple friends just for the Taiwanese style fried pork chops. The food was good. Even for dinner, it came with a free jasmine green tea (iced). Our server told us we could even get free refills on the tea! Prices are pretty average. They give you a decent amount of food for about $10 a plate. Service is good. It wasn't busy when I visited. Parking is easy. They're in the same lot as Four Seas (Taiwanese breakfast place) and Chengdu. I would come back for it again. read more

Anywhere that I can go to get delicious authentic Asian food, I love it! Was visiting my sister in Irvine and she suggested this restaurant for dinner. We ordered wonton noodle soup, they were unfortunately out of beef noodle soup (a crime!). We got two appetizers- the tofu with preserved egg and the spicy cucumber salad, classic side dishes and both were very good! We also ordered a Porkchop over rice that was a combo and came with many other sides on the plate. Everything came with egg drop soup and with my check in on Yelp, I also got a jasmine green tea to drink. We thought the food was pretty good! Once you walk in, it really feels like a Taiwanese cafe! The restaurant has a new name & a different menu; mostly the same food is offered. The best that is here is the Fried Pork Chop: crispy, juicy & flavorful. The pork chop rice is easily a 4.5 star dish. Unfortunately, everything else drops from there. The sticky tofu is serviceable, but the loo'ed appetite is surprisingly good. The beef noodle soup is horrible: 2-star. The broth is so old, it's bitter: do not order. They need to focus on what they are good at so that they don't soil the experience. Let me start this off with this note. My first experience with this restaurant was during Covid. It is a tiny spot literally around the corner from me and I had never been in all my years living in Irvine. I'm so glad I tried it. My wife and I were craving something Taiwanese and convenient and we found this listing on Yelp. The food looked good and reviews agreed, so we tried. We have been repeat customers ever since. Let's start with customer service. Every time we visit, we are greeted immediately and served just as quickly. We generally order to go and bring it home since we love so close. We have ordered nearly everything you can order as a couple and have never been disappointed. Not once. The food is delicious and my wife says that's the way they do it in Taiwan. She should know. Came here to try the new restaurant within Kingchops--it's all on the same menu. The beef noodle soup is a bit different--very herbal flavor and quite peppery, not what I expected. The wonton noodle soup was also interesting--the wontons seemed more like dumplings than wontons. Fried squid balls were pretty good, and stinky tofu was ok. One thing that was not good--they had a 10th year anniversary promotion for spend x amount and get y off. At the checkout, they said that the promotion is only available if you leave a Yelp or Google review, but that was not listed or posted anywhere. This felt a bit dishonest. read more

This little restaurant serves up some of the best Taiwanese style Pork Chops that I have ever eaten. My wife and I shared an order of Pork Chop Noodle Soup, and an order of Minced Pork Rice. We have been eating kingchops for a long time with group purchase. This is our first time eating at the actual restaurant. We really enjoyed the pork chop and the minced pork rice was excellent. Food is great here, pork chops are on point. Problem is, one of the servers ruined our experience today around 1PM (12/9). After he brought back the check and credit card, I signed for it and added $5 tip to the $57 bill. There were 4 of us that I paid for so I was collecting cash from the others and about to place their tip on the table as they like to leave cash, but within 90 seconds of me signing, the server comes over and looks at the receipt and asks what's wrong with his service and I quote, "that you couldn't tip 15%?". I was appalled, we all were; I replied saying I'm about to leave the rest in cash, is that a problem? He said oh no and walks to the back... well sir, that's one way to lose customers and your gratuity. I sure hope Wilson reviews this and it's not a reflection of the entire staff. This is one of the most authentic Taiwanese food places I've been to since moving to Southern California. However, it's getting a three star because my friends got food poisoning here. They are known for their pork chop and cutlet meals. They have a well battered feel without overly oily textures. They always have a good amount of toppings on the side with vegetables and eggs. Their stripped chicken was quite good, too. However, they do have noodle soups, and they taste okay. The soup broth was less well flavored than the Taiwanese noodle soups that I known well. I wouldn't say this is the star of the show, and I think there are better places for noodle soups. Overall, I like this place, but all my friends did get very grossly ill after eating with me here, which was very unfortunate. I hope this was a one- time occurrence, and I'll eventually gather my courage again to come back. read more

It's basically a night and day between this location and City of Industry's location. The Irvine branch of Kingchops is a bit more upscale than grimy rundown version in City of Industry. It's a newer cafe style restaurant with more comfortable tables and chairs. It gives you more sense of room in this place. I was a bit perplexed about the noodles, even though that was never a dish or item they were known for. The two must get items are either their fried pork chop or their chicken leg. Usually accompanied by minced meat rice with a side of tofu/vegs and scrambled tomato egg. I'm easy on either the leg or the chop, but I'm porky guy myself, so I always tends to order their fried pork chop. Love the juicy flavored chop when it was freshly cooked. I craved for that every other week. Two things you need to know. One is that they might experienced by adding noodles with the chop and/or leg, but stick with minced meat rice. Second, don't ordered extra tofu like I did as you can see in the photo. The one that come in the bento is good enough. You might want to order a side of either the leg or chop if you ordered one in the combo. Just make sure to get something different on the extra as a side. read more

Keeping it focused, Kingchops has a small menu centered around their fried pork chop, chicken leg, rice and noodles with a few side options. There are two types of Taiwanese fried pork chops, the really crispy, really breaded kind or the crispy barely breaded kind. Kingchop serves the less breaded variety. They have sides like marinated hard tofu, cold soft tofu, cold cucumber, boiled veggies and other mains like Curry Chicken Rice, Wonton Noodle Soup, Taiwanese Meatballs and now they've added Soup Dumplings (you can also order these to go, frozen in bags of 50). I kept it simple and stuck with the pork chop and rice. Pork Chop Rice ($9.15) - You get two plates with this. First plate comes with rice with meat sauce, scrambled egg and tomatoes, boiled greens and cooked hard pressed tofu (doufu gan). The second plate comes with the fried pork chop and some sweet and sour pickled cucumbers. For the plate of sides, the portion size is a good amount. If anything, I would have wished for a little more meat sauce on top, as I ran out of that about halfway through the rice. The pork chop is a medium cut well seasoned piece of meat, but with or without massive breading (their version does not have massive breading) it just wasn't crispy enough. Some parts of it were actually soft on the outside, which was a major bummer. For me too many soft spots is a no-go on Taiwanese pork chops (If you prefer the very breaded and crispy version, Oh Shine in Tustin serves up a decent one). Dumplings - A new item on their menu, their shui jiao, are good. Tender but durable skin on the outside, moist with a little bit of soup on the inside of the dumpling and is served with their house special soy and dark vinegar dipping sauce. The sauce was good. If you think you'll still be hungry after your pork chop or chicken leg dish, or a side of this. We each got a complimentary small cup of their refreshing and sweet iced green tea. If you use your Yelp check-in offer you can get a 16 oz cup of this for free! Service here was standard. No complaints. Overall I was hoping for a little more. For a lot of Taiwanese that grew up eating Kingchops in Taiwan this probably brings back good memories, but for me their pork chops are just okay. read more

Pork chop here is ok, I still liked the pork chop at The now defunct O-Shine better. It was very greasy and after sitting on the plate for too long one side gets really soggy. I got it with the dry noodle, which I liked more than I thought I would. The noodles had a nice texture and were chewy. The pork on the noodles was a little salty when eaten alone but with the noodles it was ok. The vegetables that come with it are boiled and were a little cold. Nothing exciting. The spicy wonton was not what I expected. It had a weird flavor I wasn't accustomed to. The complimentary tea I found to be too sweet but I am sensitive to overly sweet things. Came here for dinner on a rainy night. The noodle place we wanted to go to had a 20 minute waitlist and I was hungry so we decided to check this place out instead. Located in a strip mall off Jeffery parking is a bit tough depending on when you arrive. Seating can accommodate about 40 people. Larger groups might have trouble getting seated here. Menu is pretty simple. Some soups with different proteins, some apps and some dumplings. I ordered the spicy beef noodle soup. Bowl was pretty good size. Spicy but not overwhelmingly so. Came with plenty of beef, cartilage and veggies. Overall a good value for what you pay. Also tried the pork , it was brought out quickly but was very tasty. Big portion size and seasoned well.
