The Wharf boat is a must try. We were sitting near a couple's first time there yesterday. You should have heard them raving!! This location is very near our Louisville, KY VA Hospital and they get lots of traffic from that. And those veterans return with every appointment, coming from out in our State, Indiana and Ohio. Strange! Stopped in to Kingfish on the Louisville side on 5/11/26. It was a very pleasant evening weather-wise. I ordered a fish sandwich. The fish filet was very thin and tough, like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for a while. The onion rings, however, were VERY good. they were perfectly cooked and breaded with large, thick cuts of onion inside. We enjoyed the ambiance for a while then headed home. The next day I was looking at my receipt. Instead of being charged for a fish sandwich, I was charged for a 'Warf Boat Platter'. I was also charged .35 cents extra for the bread ???? Also, the setup that my wife received contained utensils that clearly did not see a sterilizer. Anomalies like this don't happen at the sister restaurant across the river. read more

My husband and I ate here for lunch today and our food was great. We didn't mind the short wait for a table out on the patio because it was worth it in my opinion. We looked over the menu and already decided what we wanted to eat so we didn't have to wait long. Once we got seated, our waitress was very tentative as far as service goes until we realized she seemed like she was the only one covering the patio by herself with no help. My husband had the white fish with green beans and cole slaw and I had the coconut shrimp with the Thai chili sauce with cole slaw and french fries. We also got to see the Belle of Louisville go by twice while making its way down the Ohio River while dining on the patio. I think my husband will take my back here again when we visit Louisville. The only issue we had was our waitress was kinda slow in getting us our bill so we can pay and head out but they should've had more staff on the patio working instead of just one person. read more

Picked up a takeout order and felt the staff were uninterested in dealing with customers. Stopped by at least 2 hours prior to closing time, and I felt the staff were cleaning up and closing down equipment for the day. Customers were still filing in, but it felt like an imposition to order. We ordered clams and shrimp, which were somewhat bland. Hush puppies were clumps of flavorless cornmeal. My wife and I drove for over an hour to have a relaxing drink and some of their famous fish sandwiches. My wife had to use the restroom and I went to the bar, I literally had manager, server and busgirl pass by me over and over! My wife came back from the restroom and we waited another 15 mins with no one asking us when/how we would be waited on. Two couples at the bar was waiting for their check and no one came while we sat there, and the busgirl continued to get drinks and beer fit the server but refused to help us! My whole family went here for my birthday today. They had no turtle soup and this one fat female waitress gave us the worst service ( if you call what she did service.) Went here on a Monday night...parking lot pretty empty..but hey, it's a Monday night which is typically the slowest night of the week. Once we walked inside, the place is pretty massive, and there were only three other tables set.... We were greeted by Latoya, who took our order, gave us a menus and was friendly. She then returned, probably close to 5 to 6 minutes later with our water. Seems like a long time for water... We ordered our food which wasn't very complex two bowls of clam chowder, popcorn shrimp, with a couple of sides, and whitefish with baked potato and a side salad. We noticed the server kept going back-and-forth to a table on the corner yet rarely visiting ours. About 5 minutes later the side salad came out, we asked for extra dressing, it never came. We also had some hush puppies which were warm but you could tell they've been sitting in a window for quite a while as they were kind of chewy. Onto the main course... It has to get better, right? Nope, not really. The chowder was kind of cool, not what you would really call hot soup. Both people ate them, though as they were hungry. The baked potato that came with the fish also wasn't warm, the person who had the baked potato again, asked for more sour cream, but, surprise, it never came. Sensing a theme yet? Our server apologized, and asked if there was anything else we needed. We asked for a few more hush puppies, I think that was a mistake. Guess what? That was never came either! So essentially, we went to a mostly empty restaurant, had poor service from timeliness to forgetfulness, and walked out, pretty unhappy that we stopped by this restaurant. We now know why it was so empty. Really need to work on the service and the food. If this place is to stay open. The best thing it has going for it is the scenery, out the window you can see the Ohio River , as well as when you're walking out the door. read more

We came into town for a concert and wanted a little dinner. The restaurant itself looked fine. Very pirate themed. The service was awful, it was so slow. I think they only had 1 server in the whole place and a manager. I mean it took us forever just to get drinks. I should've known it wouldn't be good based off the look on the hostess's face. They gave us free hushpuppies as like a starter and they weren't good and slightly cold. I got the twin tacos with grilled cod. The cod was very clearly frozen and everything was flavorless. The only way I could eat it was if I covered it in tartar sauce. My boyfriend got chicken strips and mac and cheese which is not hard to mess up. He said the chicken strips were fine and I tried the mac and cheese. Just a cheap microwave one whatever. My friend got the fish and chips and they gave him one sad, cold, obviously not fresh piece of fried fish and a bunch of cold fries. Also it cost extra to get a side with the tacos which I found odd. We really enjoy getting out to some of the restaurants that we haven't been to for a while. So when we saw the BOGO for Kingfish in our new KET membership book this was the first place we chose. We were seated at a window table with a great view. Our server Judy was delightful and she guided us through all the various selections that they have available. They start you out with a basket of the largest Hushpuppies you'll ever see. I ordered the three meat special, Cod filets, Clams and Boom, Boom Shrimp. I got the Onion Rings and a Side Salad for my sides. My wife got the same special only with Catfish, Cod and Scrod Filets. A few months ago we tried Kingfish on the Jeffersonville side of the river. Today, we tried the Kingfish on the Louisville side of the Ohio River. In Florida, we'd call Kingfish a "blue hair" establishment. The average patron, myself included, appeared to be over 55. Ok, well over 55. Our waitress had all the style & grace of a hash thrower at Waffle House-without the hairnet. I think she was hitting on me. She kept calling me "honey". The decor on the Louisville side is more impressive, but the view on the Jeffersonville side is far prettier. But since most folks come to this well established (1948) restaurant for the food, let's address the elephant (whale?) in the room. The hush puppies are impressive in size, with a crispy crust and a huge flavorless center that may or may not have had cornbread. It was more like a white bread center. My wife's lunch was a hit-grilled shrimp & grilled frog legs with a side of slaw & rice pilaf. (I've always wondered, is there any other kind of pilaf?). and yes, frog legs do taste like chicken. Just way more scrawny. The shrimp were perfectly grilled, but lacked any discernible seasoning. Maybe out of respect for the 55+ digestive system. My fried clam dinner was a disaster. I had ordered the same dish in Jeffersonville's Kingfish and was pleased. This time the clams were small, way overcooked and buried in crinkle fries. More fries than clams? That may work at Captain D's for $10, but not what I would expect at Kingfish for $18. I also expected at least one refill on my ice tea. But that didn't happen. I suspect my refill was a casualty of typical restaurant understaffing. Our waitress was pretty much chief cook and bottle washer. She served several tables while working an admittedly quiet bar. Kingfish is one of the few area places that serves fried clams. So, I'll just stick with the Kingfish on the Jeff side of the river. If you have some suggestions to other places serving up my favorite fried crustaceans, please let me know. read more

Went to the Kingfish Louisville location that was in abundance of great atmosphere and outdoor views, but the food and poor service was not what I was expecting. I ordered the seafood platter that included fried Cod, shrimp, oysters, crab cake, scallops and frog legs. Sounds good, right? Not! ... The shrimp were small, the oysters were even smaller and tasted like they came out of a can. The crab cake was not real crab meat, it was like something you would get in the frozen food section. Needless to say, I have crossed this spot of my list as the quality of food and service is not worth it. read more

It's hit or miss. Def not the best place in town for seafood. Never know what your portion size will be. Very inconsistent. Previously when I've ordered this there was more friend shrimp-around 6pcs and usually 4-6 scallops.... This time was just 3 of each. The cocktail shrimp was warm and had a strange soft texture-not fresh at all. The fried shrimp and scallops were fine. Onion ring lacked flavor- none what so ever. The batter was just that- batter- no salt or any seasoning. Even the onions were just there. As you can see the salmon is a half a piece. The cod was over cooked and dry, but had flavor. I really wanted to like this place because it has a great location! I love the outside area and being able to walk down to the river. Our server was phenomenal for our large party. They were prompt and kept all of us laughing. However, the food left a lot to be desired. Almost everything on my plate was cold and lacking flavor. I ordered a oyster roll 8 dollars and a meal, the oyster was raw in middle so I ask for a few pan oysters they charged me for two meals, my son and I our bill was 83 dollars we have waitress a 17 dollar tip, before I realized they charged me teo meals. They are so understaffed it's scary. They only had 3 people for the whole restaurant. It took forever to get your food, your bill, napkins, refills, etc.this place is going downhill in a hand basket. The table was so dirty and sticky that I put my paper napkin on the table before I got my food. The service was terrible, not the server's fault, because she was having to work way too many table. We asked for a beer menu which took 20 minutes to get, put in the order and15 minutes later she came back to ask what size. After finally ordering the food came twenty five minutes later. They forgot the hush puppies until we asked for our check! The french fries were OK the fish in the basket and my sandwich were dry and had more batter than fish? Ten minutes later the check came and she left before I could giver the credit Card. When she returned and gave her the card for payment, she vanished for another ten minutes? The rest at the table left and waited in the car until I appeared 15 minutes later after signing the receipt for paying the bill! I had a party of 8 so I called to make a reservation. I was told that they don't take reservations. We showed up at the restaurant on July 20th, 2024. We were told that the wait would be 1/2 hour. We also offered to split our group up to different tables if it would make seating faster. We waited for 1 and 1/2 hours for a table then had to leave without eating because we had tickets for The Belle of Louisville. We told the staff repeatedly about our schedule and they couldn't care less. They seated several parties that came in after us but refused to seat us even though we offered to separate into different tables. Truly a horrible experience. read more

We went to Louisville to pick up a marketplace purchase... It was over by KingFish near Zorn avenue. Thought we would stop in and relive a little magic of our youth at the KingFish since we are rarely in this area at all... Worst food I have put in my mouth in a very very long time. I did not eat a single shrimp off of my plate. The white fish was cardboard the other half okay at best. The crab cake was terrible The three fried oysters were about the size of my thumbnail and hard as bricks The hush puppies had old yuck onions in them. The tartar sauce was not agreeable.... The honey mustard was terrible The salad looked like it had been frozen for a couple of weeks and then thawed out and then put in a fridge to cool back down again My wife unwrapped her utensils and her fork had chunks of food on it, her new set was unrolled and the knife had food on it.... She doesn't like fish, so she got the chicken tenders, She ate one piece of chicken, part of a baked potato that was loaded but had no sour cream... Now we are at five guys and she is getting a delicious cheeseburger while my stomach churns. I'm going to try to quell it with a vanilla milkshake from here. I told my wife, we're trying to relive the magic of our youth, and we got crammed into a damn cave full of fools Gold. We went for a nice night overlooking the river this Saturday. The food portions were skimpy and the green beans came out cold. They forgot our hush puppies so we had to ask for them. Ten minutes later, after we had finished meal, they brought them. For the higher prices, I expect the meal to fill a person up. My husband's Cajun grilled fish was the size of a Post It Note! Isiah was our server and did the best he could, but never came back for refills. He truly was overwhelmed with too many tables. I can only attest to the outdoor music venue and the Pina Colada's on this visit to this Kingfish location. We cruised down to see a local band, Most Wanted play on the outdoor stage on Saturday evening. It is a beautiful setting right on the river with ample seating. Swings, chairs, tables and chairs, picnic tables or you can bring your own chair. So plenty of outdoor space and seating with the river as the backdrop. It could not have been a prettier night weather wise. Plenty of parking in front of the restaurant. The band was exceptional and the crowd fun and enthusiastic. I ventured to the bar inside to snag a Pina Colada and was not disappointed. It was frozen and had a wonderful flavor. And on Saturday night they are on special for $3.99. The bar was packed and the bar tender, also the manager of the restaurant/bar was phenomenal. She waited on all patrons and cleared the bar within minutes and was so pleasant while doing it. Friends that did join us got a carry out order of fish and fries and they said it was all very good. You can walk down to the river and walk out of the dock, great place for kids, providing you are watching them by the water. Highly recommend the venue especially when Most Wanted is playing. read more

We came in for a late lunch and were seated quickly by the window at the end of the bar overlooking the river. Our waitress complained the entire time about her job, and specifically, other customers! She pointed out a couple that were sitting on the deck and accused them of sitting as far away as possible, deliberately causing her to make several trips out and back. I'm okay with a little of this, but she would linger at the table and try to have conversations about it. When the customer came into the restaurant, our waitress came to our table and said, "That's the woman I was talking about. She even walks mean!" My husband and I joked about what she was going to say about US when we left! Once we got our food, she did not check back with us, offer us drink refills, she didn't clear used plates, offer us drinks to go, nor did she offer us the check until we asked for it. Most of the time that we were eating, she sat on a barstool directly behind our table and complained to everyone who would listen. It was also awkward because we had no privacy during our meal. She was sitting so close that she could hear everything we said when she has no one to talk to. Beyond that, the food was just plain bland with the exception of the clam chowder, which was thin and runny, but tasty with enough crackers in it. We used to love this place, but we will not be back. Yeah, Kingfish was not a big hit. We were in the area and decided to try Kingfish because it has been years since we have had it. We were seated immediately and the service was fine but the food was not that great. I had the fried fish with fries and the table split an order of onion rings. The food did not stand out. It was really greasy and soggy so it was not that great. We actually ended up leaving the restaurant a little disappointed. The food is not crazy expensive but not worth what you get. I do not see myself coming back to Kingfish because I personally think there are better seafood options in Louisville read more
