I walked in behind a whole bunch of people as I was investigating Paducah. I asked if they had Scottish Tablet. They didn't know what I was talking about. Of course, they didn't. I rarely find it outside of Scotland. But they did have something that tasted very much like it. It's their chocolate-covered shortbread-ish bars. Remove the chocolate and it's almost like tablet!! She was paying me so I didn't want to seem like a boor. After we parted company I noticed this bakery so I just happened to wander in. Hello, just what I wanted. I ordered a cranoatie cookie which was superb. Soft and chewy plus robust flavor. I adored it. I brought home a sunshine cake roll and had it for dessert after dinner that night. Pure yumness! This place is pretty fantastic. I'd love to come back and check out some of the sandwiches. I was going to grab a sandwich late in the day but they close at 5 p.m. We dropped by in the morning. We grabbed a loaf of cheese stuffed focaccia to share for breakfast. We also picked up a nutty cinnamon pastry that balanced sweet and savory and flaky and perfect. We went for lunch at the deli and had a really hard time walking past the bakery displays without stopping. Lovely deli. I had a chicken salad sandwich and husband had a grilled cheese with bacon, lots of bacon. It was very busy and pretty loud. They YELLED your number when your order was ready. We went here today after touring the quilt museum. We were excited to see a shop open since most of them are closed on Mondays. I love Yelp because without it, I would never find great places like Kirchoff's. You can feel the years when you walk into this place. The seating area is dimly lit. The tables and chairs and pics on the wall look like they've been there since William Clark first came to Paducah. The air hangs heavy with the smell of sandwiches from many meals gone by. But you're here for the food. After maneuvering your way across the slanted floor to the deli counter you will not be disappointed. Might as well close your eyes and point at the menu. You know everything is going to be good. The Club should have its own fan club. It stands tall on the plate...thick, fresh-baked bread stuffed with turkey, ham, bacon and cheese. The Avocado BLT is TDF (to die for). And someone PLEASE get me the recipe for the Red Grape Salad...red grapes, whipped cream, sugar, cinnamon and Kentucky magic? So simple, so delicious. I'll probably never return to Paducah, but I will always remember Kirchoff's. Five stars. read more

Kirchhoff's is an experience and we had a great one. When you step into the restaurant you feel like you're in a big city, which adds to the feel. The line is out of the door and you don't even care to wait because the smell of the food is intoxicating. As you get closer you are able to watch as the food is made right before your eyes. I had a fried eggplant sandwich and it was out of this world. One of the best sandwiches I've had to date. I don't see myself being in Paducah anytime soon, if ever but if I do happen to be back I will DEFINITELY go back to Kirchhoff's. read more

I do like this place, mostly for the fresh breads and baked goods here. I mostly go to get the bleu cheese focaccia bread,which I think is well priced. HOW-ever, the other baked things such as cookies,macarons etc are overpriced imo. That's the only reason i would not give 5 stars. Really good bread can make for a fabulous meal. It can certainly make an otherwise average sandwich amazing. And the stuff they're baking here is, in general, just that good. When I'm in town and scheduling allows, I stop in for lunch and a few loaves to take away and have never been disappointed. Breads are uniformly well made if your preference is for heavier, toothier, Germanic or more rustic breads. The only loaf I've ever ordered that I wasn't thrilled with was a spinach loaf that had very large (whole) spinach leaves that didn't really add anything, flavor-wise. For all the love I have for Kirchhoff's, though, this is not the place to expect an authentic crusty (light) French baguette - so don't be disappointed. Lunch catering works great - sandwiches were timely, well-arranged / freshly made and everything necessary for service was included. Add-ons like chips and a dessert platter make a casual business lunch come together quickly and easily. And the sweets were especially good, from the cookies to the bars - even for fairly small plates, the variety offered was appreciated. Plus, orders were consistent and reliable, a definite plus when planning events in advance from a whole time zone away. I just wish they'd take non-catering orders for late pickup, as about half of the time I'm in Paducah, I don't arrive until after their lunch service and several of their sandwiches are just that good. This was a sandwich that i dont think I will forget in a hurry. We asked a local where we should have a meal, and without hesitation, it was KIRCHHOFF'S, we were not dissapointed. It was magical. The bread freshly baked by masters on the premises was the very best I have eaten in the USA. It reminded me of the great bakerys in Germany, where bread is more than just a food, its part of the German culture. This place is deserving of ZAGAT status. The staff was excellent and the atmosphere in the original bakery was all that was need to round off a fantastic meal. My family and I will be back. read more

This may very well be my favorite restaurant in all of Paducah. My favorite sandwich is the Chipotle Chicken Club. LOVE it. :) However, I also frequently order the Turkey Artichoke, and Cuban Chorizo Melt. Food is always FRESH. Service has always been good. My only complaint is that their hours are somewhat limited and during the summer inside dining is rather warm. My ONLY recommendation is to visit the bakery side of the restaurant once you have finished your lunch. Who doesn't love a family-owned local bakery? Who doesn't love a family-owned local bakery that is attached to a family-owned local coffee joint? If you just raised your hand, you're missing out. My lifelong friend and I decided to have lunch together because we only get that opportunity about 1-2 times a year and we were both available. Hooray! We opted for going to Kirchoff's bakery. They're kind of a sandwich/salad/soup kind of joint, but salads were out given the latest recall on romaine. They also make breads and confections sold at a counter adjacent to the lunch spot. I had my eyes set on trying the Volkornbrot or the Cranberry Walnut loaf to take home, but all their loaves sold out before 11am. :( It was the day before Thanksgiving and they were SLAMMED. I was really looking forward to trying the Cuban sandwich, but sadly, the cashier told me they were out of roasted pork. Well, ok then, in that case, I opted for the roast beef and portobello mushroom sandwich on Cuban bread. I figured I'd at least get a portion of the Cuban sandwich in my order with the Cuban bread, and all. The guy at the counter was friendly. They had an army of folks making food and calling out orders. Did I mention they call out orders? Loud and proud they call those orders out, I tell ya. "FIFTY-SIX!" They would say in the most projected voice you could imagine. They must have all been theater majors. Their voices carried to lands far far away, which I guess was a good thing considering how many people were in there. Like a well-oiled machine they were cranking those sandwiches out. I was looking forward to eating it, but I just didn't want to have to talk over all the noise. My friend and I decided we would rather enjoy our lunch with a bit more quiet, so that's when we decided to walk over to the connected Etcetera Coffeehouse and enjoy a coffee with our lunch. More on that in another review. Back to the sandwich... I wish I had taken a picture of it. It was beautiful. The bread was huge, white, and fluffy. As far as how it tasted? The bread tasted just as it looked, like fluffy delicious yeasty clouds. The mushrooms seemed perfectly marinated. The beef was a little chewy and dry for me, but still, it was good. I give this place a 3.5 We were passing through Paducah, KY on the way to Atlanta, GA and heard that this was THE place to go. Naturally, my hopes were high. Got there around 11AM or something and there was a lot of empty space on the bread shelves and pastries kept disappearing off the shelf while we waited in line. By the time we got to the front of the line, we still didn't know what we wanted, but we knew we wanted something. So we took a look at the bread loaves and saw that the Country Wheat bread seemed to be selling well. "One, please." The lady in line next to us said that the Spinach-Parmesan Pinwheels were good. "And one of those..." Now we needed something sweet, and you just CAN'T share desserts, so we got one for each of us. Elvis Cookie, Cookie Dough Cheesecake Bar, Cowboy Cookie, and Southern Pecan Bar. Yum, right? ------------ First off: MAN. We should have just grabbed every last spinach-parm pinwheel they had. That thing was AH-MAZING! I am not exaggerating, it was THE. BOMB. Get one when you go there! It's made out of a crispy croissant-esque dough with a creamy and beautifully seasoned ricotta-parm-spinach-herb center that will make you want to cry out of sheer bliss. It sure took me by surprise. Now for the sad part.. I didn't notice until I opened the bread later that day that the bottom of the loaf was burnt! I mean, if I were a BAKERY that specializes in BREAD, I'd be pretty embarrassed to be selling that. Check your bread before it goes out, please! I understand that people make mistakes, but it kind of tarnished my first impression of you. :/ After slicing off the underside of the bread, it was edible but still tasted faintly of burnt wheat. Note: definitely a bread good for toast, soup, croutons, and the like. And the desserts... Meh. Everything we had was just O.K. Maybe we bought the wrong ones or something, but I'm a firm believer in only selling things that taste GOOD and make you want another one. It just seems like they made these particular desserts because they had the extra counter space... Sorry, it just didn't do it for me. :( read more

This place is somewhat hidden in a alley which once you find it you will be glad you did. There is a counter of chocolate goodness with other pastries for breakfast. The staff is pretty friendly and seem to want you feel comfortable at ordering your food. I will most definitely come back when I get the chance. read more

We were nearby and chose this place based on Yelp reviews. First, getting there. With the address, Google Maps took us to Broadway St northwest of the shop. If you look at the pin on Yelp, you can see the store is actually on the eastern one-way of Marine Way. After wandering around trying to find the place, we walked in the deli with about 15 minutes to spare. They stop making sandwiches at 2pm if I remember correctly. After that they will kindly ask you to return another day. I let this review sit so long I can't remember what I had, but I loved it. My wife had the BIG LOU'S ROAST BEEF & HAVARTI and my son the BLT. We each tasted each other's sandwiches and were pleased with everything on the table. I do remember having the bacon & chive potato salad for my side. After lunch we went next door to the bakery and bought some treats for the ride. Honestly we weren't impressed with 5 out of 6 items. They weren't bad, just nothing special. The deli, however, was worth the trip and worth a five star review. read more
