Due to my employment responsibilities, I make a trip out to Western Kentucky at least once a month. Paducah is at the top of my "Best Small Towns List." The city has done an excellent job of creating a thriving arts and crafts community that is centered around the beautiful riverfront area. Kirchhoff's Bakery is one my favorite local businesses. This place is absolutely adorable. Display cases are full of fresh baked bread, scones, and all kinds of delicious pastries. The last time I visited, I picked up a pecan pie bar to enjoy while I strolled through the art galleries and small businesses that comprise the downtown market. Two minutes away, one can take in the beauty of the river & passing riverboats. I also snagged an apple pie pastry to save for an after dinner treat. The building has an open floor plans with public restrooms available on the street. It appears to share space with a deli to the left and a coffee shop/specialty boutique to the right. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful when I asked for recommendations on restaurants and wineries in the region. read more

If you want a good, reasonably priced meal for lunch can me to Kirchkoff's. Fresh bread is used for their made-to-order sandwiches. I had the Grandpa Black Philly. Focaccia bread with beef, cheddar and toppings - delicious! I also had to pasta salad trying to eat something healthier than chips. However, the pasta had too much dressing. Who would have thought a deli like this could be found outside New York, if you are in Paducah for one afternoon and downtown, this has to be your one stop! They must be good, five generations of Kirchhoff's have been baking mouth watering danishes, breads like you have never bought at the grocery store and a lunch counter where waiting in the line is part of the experience. read more

Fresh baked rye bread. The ladies were just bagging it when we got there. The pecan brownies were so tasty - lots of pecans. From the deli I got the corned beef Reuben with the grape salad side. Grilled perfectly and the thousand island dressing comes on the side. I disliked that only one side had cheese. The side of grape salad - grapes in a creamy cinnamon sauce - is a nice concept but the amount of cinnamon was overwhelming, especially since the only sweetness was from the grapes. Plus it was just so thick that it overpowered the grapes. Just fell flat. Hubby got roast beef sandwich. He mostly enjoyed it except it was a touch dry. Service is very nice and friendly. Plan on going back. Just be aware that the store, and a few other businesses nearby, have NO customer restrooms, therefore you must use the ones over a block away in the parking lot. If you are in downtown historic Puduach this is a must stop for lunch. The sandwiches are awesome and big. The bakery is good but both times I've gone they were out of pies already. Guess you need to get their early for their famous pies! read more

I enjoyed the ham and Brie on walnut cranberry bread. Very fresh. I also loved the chocolate peanut brittle tart.

I absolutely could not believe my good fortune when I walked into Kirchoff's. The other reviews kind of had me geared up for a little American style bakery with some Southern flair: some muffins and pie and a sandwich or something. But when I walked in, I was confronted with a wall of baguette, multi-grain boules, focaccias, levains and a case full of French style pastries, both savory and sweet. They had southern classics like the Chess Bars Debra M mentioned, cookies and the like, but the pastries blew my mind. I ordered a box of things to take back to my family still at the hotel, including a spinach and cheese pinwheel. While walking down the street back to our car, I took my first bite and immediately turned around, walked back to the bakery and bought every last spinach pastry they had. Utter perfection. We all ate two. Also had a basil and tomato pastry, likewise perfect in every way. Apricot danish, delicious. Everything-but-the-kitchen-skin style chunky cookie: amazing. Bear claw? Thick, chocolaty almond perfection. Three cheers for Kirchhoffs, and thank God for etcetera coffee next door to furnish caffe au lait to wash down all the delicious pastries... read more

Husband said best club sandwich piled high with meats. The turkey with cranberry bread smaller but perfect size for me and the bread was delicious. Sides cost extra but under $10.00 meal well worth it. One critique just wish the bread was thicker or toasted to hold all the toppings in so minus 1 star. Warning only open 11 to 2 for deli. Walked in to a SHOUT OUT of what I thought was a name but come to find out was a number. Heads up if you startle easily!! This bakery has a deli side that serves lunch only for limited hours. While waiting for my order there were 21 people in line and 3/4 of the tables were full. The traffic pattern is a mess so if you are easily irritated by chaos...send another member of your lunch group to fetch your order, which BTW is not called out in order. We chose to sit outside because the weather was perfect and the shouting cook was a bit too much for a peaceful lunch experience. There are three patio tables in the front and a slew of patio tables on the side of the bakery. The Fried Green Tomato BLT was absolutely delicious! Unreal! Wish I had ordered a whole sandwich instead of a half sandwich with homemade potato salad. Beverage choices included unsweet tea, lemonade, water, and bottled soda. My daughter selected the portobello and roast beef sandwich. It came out piping hot and stayed that way for over 5 minutes but the roast beef was tough as tough can be. The mushrooms were perfect. Each sandwich comes with a dill pickle spear. This worth the 5 miles or so drive off the interstate. read more

Kirchoff's has an fabulous feel. It's like stepping back in time when you walk in here and take in the wooden floors and brick walls. It smells amazing and they have cases full of beautiful desserts. It's like Wonka, but with baked goods. "Pure Imagination!" The challah is phenomenal. The fruit squares are delicious. ... but I can't give it five stars because I had a couple of their more sweet desserts - millionaire bars and some peanut butter and chocolate thing. They were so sweet. It just tasted like doing shots of corn syrup. I couldn't distinguish between the layers of chocolate, cream and shortbread. The crust was dry, crumbly and a lil overdone tasting. ... but do go here and enjoy many of their other delicious deserts and breads. It's a really great place. I can't wait to go back. read more

Deli style sandwiches on fresh baked artisan breads. Order at the counter and pick up when they call your number. Roomy space with open air dining a block or two off the river. Bakery next door. I had a grilled cheese (Brie) with tomato and bacon on some delicious sourdough. Paired mine with chips but they do offer some potato and macaroni salads. Soda pop and tea to drink. The deli might be wonderful as the reviews seem to say, however, we ordered three pies for Christmas and was truly disappointed. The chocolate meringue pie had to be remade because is weeped and the chocolate did not set. It was liquid under the meringue. This pie should not have even left the store. I will give the bakery credit, they replaced the pie after I called. The pecan pie was bland and as a southern man I have a pretty high standard for pecan pie. The utterly disappointing pie was a coconut meringue pie. It was rancid. I'm not using hyperbole here it was actually rancid. I would rather drive the hour round trip to get pies from patty's settlement than ever frequent this establishment again. read more

Absolutely the best bakery and deli in Paducah! Love the cranberry walnut bread and well, pretty much everything they have in the bakery.

Fun place to eat and the food is good. Believe it when others tell you the sandwiches are big! We are hearty eaters and the prices of the sandwiches seemed to indicate that they might not be as big as reviewers reported. Boy, were we wrong! The sandwiches we ordered were larger than expected. We had also ordered salad and soup, so we ended up with too much food. The menu says that most sandwiches can be ordered as a half sandwich for $3.75, and if you want to sample multiple items, this may be the route to go. Full sandwiches range in price from $3.00 for Classic Grilled Cheese to $6.95 for Kirchoff's Famous Club. There is so much more to explore on the menu between those two sandwiches! My husband had the Cuban, which was loaded with pork (see photo), and I had the Turkey Artichoke. Both were delicious, and we would order them again, but the rest of the menu is so enticing that it seems like we should strike out to new territory. "The Peachy Pig" (pork, brie, and peach preserves), "Pimento Cheese and Bacon Grilled Cheese", and "Big Lou's Roast Beef and Havarti" are calling my name. A word to those of you who limit your bread intake, the meat fillings are so plentiful that you can make a meal on the fillings, if you can resist the wonderful bread. Soups and chili are served with house-made crackers! Salads are large and ample for a meal if you must avoid the temptation of the bread. Kirchoff's is another local place suggested to me from a Paducah native, as I travel in western Kentucky for work. The bakery has a classic bakery feel, and I always drool all over myself when I get the opportunity to visit. There are a variety of options. The iced cookies and baklava are two of the sweets I've tried and very much enjoyed. (I usually try to get a box and bring some home to my family if I can make it that far without devouring them in my car.) They also have delicious breads and bread-items. There is a corner with breads that are slightly older and are thus discounted. (It's to the right when you walk in.) A colleague once bought a bag of asiago bagels from that corner, and we devoured those. They are absolutely delicious. The deli side of Kirchoff's has limited hours (lunch only), but it is delicious as well. i do my best to time up my visits so I have the opportunity to eat lunch there at least once per trip to the area. The menu is quite diverse and portions are perfect for lunch. As far as I remember, none of the sides are very healthy, but they sure are good (pasta salad, grape salad). It's inexpensive, and the staff has always been friendly in my experience. It's a lunch that really "hits the spot." Enjoy some lunch, but then save room for dessert next door at the bakery. High quality meat and ingredients piled high on fresh baked bread (for less than what you would pay at other popular chain sandwich/deli shops). Kirchhoff's is a deli/bakery/coffee shop. It's divided into three distinct sections, the bakery in the middle. There was a good size crowd when we arrived but the ordering went quickly and we got our food fast. They give you a number and you should have no problem hearing it called out when it's ready. We had a pork and peach sandwich. When we saw the size of them we chose to split one and get two sides. The sandwiches are priced around $6 but they're so big two people can share. With two sides and two drinks our order came to $14 approximately. The food was really good. The grape salad is more of a desert type of food. It wasn't my favorite but it was not bad. I also bought a few cookies from the bakery for later on down the road. I'll update when I try them out. read more

Stopped in during a quick weekend getaway in the area. It was around 11am on a Friday and they still had plenty of items from which to select. I was eyeing the pumpkin scone, but I got a mini quiche and hubs got a piece of what we called 'breakfast focaccia' which had bacon, artichokes, and an egg. We grabbed 2 coffees and also split a blueberry danish. We sat out on their brick sidewalk and enjoyed our leisurely brunch. Everything was incredibly delicious and fresh. We eagerly returned on Sunday morning and were disappointed to see they are closed on Sundays. We can't wait to visit again when we return to Paducah. Next time we are going to make sure to buy several to-go items to bring back home to enjoy. read more

This place is AMAZING! Anytime people visit we make sure to take them here because you can't go wrong with anything you order! The food is insanely good and the staff is top notch. Some of my favorites are the fried green tomato blt, the chili, and the shrimp po boy sandwich (massive). Jeff is always a friendly face behind the register and all the other folks seem really great too! Do NOT forget to stop into the bakery attached as well! They have some of the best cookies I've ever had, and I've had a lot of cookies in my day. This deli was so worth the 15 min off the interstate while passing through MO to GA. I'm gluten intolerant and had the California chipotle chicken on lettuce wrap. It was HUGE, I couldn't finish it all and absolutely delicious. My daughter had a chili dog and it looked AMAZING on a focaccia bun. My husbands club was HUGE. Half portions are available and I wish we'd done that! Sooo good and I'm so happy we took the detour for this place. read more

This has been one of my favorite places to eat for as long as I can remember in my hometown of Paducah. The food is absolutely amazing and to me it always taste fresh and delicious! I adore the BTL, especially the bacon because it's to die for, and the grape salad is awesome too. The vibe is friendly and homey. We stoped for lunch after a morning visit at the nearby National Quilt Museum. The deli area was jammed and we had a 10-minute wait for our sandwich. Was worth it - took it down to the river and enjoyed the seasoning on the chicken. Later in the afternoon wolfed down the cinnamon scone. The Cuban was very filling, at $6.50, there's not going to be much better of a deal out there for what you get. I was going to get a side but glad I didn't because I was FULL from just the sandwich. The pasta salad looked really good though. The building is super old so there is some interesting architecture still exposed from the good ol days.
