Pepperoni with charred or burnt crust
    Eric S.

The service was eh. Not the friendliest crew behind the counter but the guy was honest with me when I asked if the Cacio Pepe pizza was good. He said no. Lol. So I didn't get it and I greatly appreciated the honesty. I got a slice of pepperoni and one of the square slices. On the pepperoni slice, the crust was a bit charred and a little too crispy. I think because of the reheat. Not very cheesy but the pepperoni was the small kind and good. The square slice was very crusty too. Both slices I got tasted like the dough was sourdough. Loved that!! It taste good and easy to digest. They don't have ranch sauce and you won't see pineapple on the pizzas. Boring and dumb but it's ok because they have hot chili oil out with the other condiments. Ambiance inside could have used frequent cleaning. It's a very new spot and already looking dirty. Quick tip here, eat slow and the roof of your mouth will appreciated it.

Upside Pizza 1231 Broadway's Tasty 4 Buck Cheese Slice (could have been a bit bigger)
    Mike R.

When walking up Broadway from Madison Square Park, came across this Upside location. Had recently tried a slice at their NoLIta pizzeria and wanted to see if there was any difference. My Upside $4 plain cheese slice here was a positively better experience: 1) Ordering was easy and my slice came up quickly. (A definite difference!) 2) Crust was perfectly tender and crispy! The cheese was much better and didn't have an off taste and produce the drippy grease like my NoLIta Upside slice did. (After this, wondering what the earlier issue was.) 3) Was able to sit down inside and enjoy my slice without the music not too loud compared to before. (This spot had available outdoor seating too, but it had been rained on.) Wish this tasty slice could have been slightly larger for 4 bucks, but otherwise definitely this Upside Pizza is a place you might consider stopping by if you have a hankering and are passing by!

Not sure why Upside Pizza was rated low, it's surprisingly amazing! From lining up (no line), to the prime time location and great customer service...the pizza itself is better than A LOT of the higher rated spots nearby (eg. Quality Pizza). I had the Cacio e Pepe slice and it was creamy, chewy and amazing! The burrata puts it over the topI highly recommend it and will be back today for lunch!

It's all here in all the flavors we love. Best I think is the upside down grandma or L&B knockoff. Their pizza is top tier and the location is a key corner with some seating and can't beat a slice & apres soft serve.

Best gluten-free pizza I have ever had. [Full Stop]…read more I've had a lot of GF pizza. I've tried to come here in the past -- but it didn't work out. I ordered via Uber Eats this time, and MAN -- I was blown away. I honestly thought that they had screwed up and sent me a gluten version. I checked the order and receipt. It was so good -- the crust so chewy with bite -- but light and airy and tight -- the cheese and toppings all great and fresh and delicious. It tasted like an awesome piece of NYC pizza. I was so happy. I did some Claude sleuthing -- and think I'm onto their magic with the crust -- and am excitedly going to experiment in my home kitchen in the coming weeks (Neapolitan oven, be damned!).

As traditional Neapolitan-style pizza is known for its soft, thin dough, puffy, charred crust, the Don Antonio version is well executed. You must try the Pere & Noci salad along with your pizza, it peas, exquisite‼ Giorgia Caporuscio, an acclaimed and world champion pizzaiola who has earned international recognition for her authentic Neapolitan pizza, is behind the beloved Don Antonio restaurant. Located at 309 West 50th Street in New York City's Hell's Kitchen neighborhood, the casual eatery has an extensive list of pizzas. Don Antonio has over 30 types of Neapolitan pizzas, and the menu is a little bit daunting at first due to so many options, but even the pickiest eater will find something they'll want to eat. To top that off, Caporuscio recently debuted a brand new pizza tasting menu that features a curated lineup of never-before-seen pizza napoletana, and seven varieties of pizza fritta (fried pizza). Lastly, the entire pizza menu is now available gluten-free. With vast offerings, they are ambitious, and every dish is outstanding.

RIGHT BY THE DOOR. Do people not realize that putting a bar near a door on a freezing cold night benefits no one? Good thing I did not order alcohol or I would have froze to death. Seriously, none of the pies stood out in grand memory. All I can think of is, well, nothing. Nothing positive anyway. The names of the pies are funny, and the staff is friendly, but besides that, the quality of the food for lack of a better word, dare I say it, sucks. Hoping to salvage the meal, I ordered their Chicken Parmesan. It was the Hail Mary pass that unfortunately did not connect. The cutlets are overcooked and dry, and the red sauce cooked with it has minimal tomato flavor. At least the spaghetti is cooked to a nice al dente and mellow garlic butter flavor, but like the sauce cooked in, it is also minimal. Part of the problem I feel is they are trying to go for a vibe that has a New York and modern feel. It does not work. Stay true to one or the other. Or at least look at other business models. I will use another pizzeria in Bushwick that exemplifies it perfectly. It is a hipster pizzeria in a hipster neighborhood. Through balance, it creates an ambiance both welcoming and warm without losing any of its Bushwick character. It does this by not beating you over the head with hipster vibes, just enough to let you know that you are in Bushwick. The band Franz Ferdinand was playing as I was wrapping up. Rather than take the pizza out, I suggest you throw it out. Overall pizza rating: 1.7/5

The first thing you notice is the main bar wall, with its exposed centuries-old brick that has survived every bit of chaos this city could throw at it. It's subtly backlit from with a warm, amber glow that highlights every single historic groove and imperfection, making the whole room look like it's breathing. I have to say the centerpiece of the entire narrow room is the bar itself, and let me tell you, it is an absolute stunner of a contrast. Instead of the usual dark, sticky tavern wood, they've dropped in a long, continuous slab of pristine, elegantly smooth white stone. It glows under the soft lighting like a block of polished marble. There are no strobe lights and no obnoxious, skull-rattling bass in this joint. Instead, the room is wrapped in a blanket of incredibly chill music that matches the pulse of the room perfectly. It's just loud enough to drown out the noise in your own head, but quiet enough that you don't have to scream over the smooth white counter to be heard. People aren't here to be seen on TikTok; they're here to disappear for an hour or three. You slide into a chair, order a proper Old Fashioned from a bartender who doesn't rush the pour, and watch the ice melt against the amber-lit brick. It's the ultimate underground exhale--a perfect, narrow slice of peace in a city that never shuts up. Cheers!
