I was expecting a good portion of chicken in a light Marsala sauce with mushrooms and tomatoes. What I got was a dark, gloppy, heavy sauce over a small chicken butterfly half breast. We had our first try of Kitchen and Rail for my wife's birthday and were really impressed. Probably best experienced by getting a few items to share and we had the What the Cluck sliders, Butter Chicken, Cauliflower Burnt Ends, and Curry Noodels. I enjoyed everything, but the sliders and cauliflower were the clear favorites and full of flavor. My only cons were that the noodles were great cold, but the chicken (I was warned) should've been warm and the sliders had zero spice. Our server was awesome and really helped with our order. She also offered my wife a bday dessert (the chocolate "cake"), which was great. The difference between a good server and a great one is clear, and she was a great one. read more

What brought me here is that Eagan has its own restaurant week, lucky us. As soon as you walk in you forget that you're in a strip mall. It's definitely a beautiful place for beautiful people. We were greeted and welcomed when we announced it was our first time. We were seated at a cool wooden round table for 2 with lots of room. I opted for the seasonal beef stroganoff. A good sized portion, noodles cooked through, great flavor, lots of tender beef. Two things needed. Better mushrooms, these were itsy bitsy pieces rather than a decent slice. The sauce was so scant the noodles absorbed it all. We both got a generous mug/cup of lobster bisque, minus an oil topping. Totally pureed, yet a great flavor. There was definitely a boozy taste. Basil got the restaurant week feature. I think it was a short rib, a solid piece with sauce and tender as well. It was his kind of dessert. A cheesecake, lots of caramel drizzle, with a creme brulee topping. Nick was a fabulous waiter. He brought a nice, strong iced tea to start. I had one of the best gingerales I ever had, even the color was unique. This will be my new Eagan go to. It was a cold, dreary evening and this upscale comfort food hit the spot. read more

I wanted to order the 1934 Cosmopolitan. Our server said unfortunately they weren't able to make it as they were out of the mix, but offered some suggestions from their cocktail menu. I decided on the Lavender Dream Martini, my girlfriends ordered their super popular Toes in the Sand cocktail. I really liked the martini, and was happy to find that it wasn't overly floral as Lavender can sometimes be overwhelming. The toes in the sand cocktail was really good too! We ordered a few different dishes and the salsa di parma for the table to share. To be completely honest, I'm not sure if I would order that again, it lacked flavor. My pasta was delicious and I really liked the char on the accompanying bread. Round two called for a wine flight because wine not?? I decided to try their Chardonnay flight, The pours were a nice amount and it came out quickly. One of my girlfriends ordered their espresso martini, I tried a sip and fell in love. There is a hint of coconut and it is perfectly creamy/just the right amount of sweet. I am definitely going for that next time we stop by! I've been wanting to try Kitchen & Rail since it opened last summer. The dinner and brunch menu have been enticing me for months. It's exactly what Eagan has been needing in the sea of chain restaurants. I ordered the Smoked Salmon Benedict. All of the food could have been slightly hotter, but the Benny and bloody were seriously delicious. It reminded me of an elevated lox bagel. I wish they would turn up the lights and turn down the music for brunch. The ambiance is great for dinner but not as much for the morning. Eggplant Parmesan is grandma's recipe according to Victor (the restaurant owner) and it's excellent. It's a summer menu item so come and try it while it's still available. And the crispy duck is just as good as I make it - medium rare, juicy and just the right portion. read more

When the sliders were presented, he asked if they were prepared correctly and he was told they're "all made the same way." Papa Johns is two doors down. This place is interesting. It is hidden in the menu but this place is small plates if it isn't obvious. My buddy paid 19 bucks for lamb and it was ridiculous how little the plate was, about the size of two small wings. I had sliders and fries, my food was decent. We were by the window and the sun was beaming in our face and hot. No blinds. Here is what pissed me off. The manager asked "is everyone happy" we told them my buddy was upset with his meal and he said "yeah, small portions" and seemed to think that was good enough. Said try the filet sliders next time (which is highly unlikely to happen). Most places would offer a solution or an alternative or fries or something. UPDATE. they comped the lamb chops so bumped the rating. And my wife showed up late and ordered salmon, and 25 - 35 min later it showed up. Went to brunch on a Saturday at 10:15. We had a reservation but didn't need it. The place was pretty empty. We ordered coffee and got one cold french press to share-each got about 1/2 cup . I think it's beyond bizarre that a brunch wouldn't offer refillable drip coffee. We ordered and ended up waiting about 50 min for our food. The server did stop by and I asked why it was such a long wait and he said it was several big tickets that backed up the kitchen. There were a couple large tables but the vast majority of the place was empty. So, I really don't get how the kitchen could get that backed up. When we finally got our food, it was cold. The service was fine, the menu (other than coffee) and decor were good. They need to figure out their timing. read more

Felt that they just put items on the menu randomly. And coming to the dishes there is no dish that felt interesting. And the items we ordered were not tasty at all. They should work on changing the whole menu and put something interesting on it. Felt like I cook better at home than this. We ordered different items and only 2 out of 7 were close to eating. Except for the ambience there isn't anything much to appreciate about this place. They should rethink about the menu and chef maybe. They had caviar chips on the menu and they are so bad. They should remove this from the menu as it do not justify the name caviar. The prices on the menu were low as well as the quality and taste of the food. Two people two three plates, desert and coffee (french press served) $100. We did arrive 20 minutes late for our reservation and my boyfriend assumed they would not seat us. But they did happily + without hesitation. What a relief. The place is warm, cozy, and inviting. Great cocktails, enjoyable appetizers and great service by "Sam" our attendant! we particularly enjoyed the Cauliflower Burnt ends, and the Drop Pork Slider. I think it would be better for apps and a drink than for dinner . ATMOSPHERE: Eclectic decor and bistro type noise level with a few TVs on mute. With the mauve Buffalo head and wall of gilded framed prints it's hard to classify the style. Overall fun atmosphere SERVICE: Our server was great. She gave us good advice and was attentive and patient without being pushy. FOOD: I was surprised as the small size of the Sea bass serving. The menu did mention it was 4 Oz .but I wasn't prepared for a piece of fish the size of a small post-it note on 3 tablespoons of puréed cauliflower. It was a tasty bite. Cauliflower tips were delicious. The pasta serving size was a more standard. For dessert we enjoyed the donuts. If I return I will stick with appetizers and donuts! read more

We had high hopes when we first heard about this place, but they were short-lived. The salsa di Parma was good, the pork belly was very small with rice that was crunchy, and the filet mignon was ok, but without a side, it wasn't enough to really be an entree. Add on a couple of drinks, and the meal was WELL over $100, and we both were still hungry. Overall it was ok at best. We might try again at some point, but probably not anytime soon. read more

We typically go as a couple for happy hour. Food is good- esp cheeseburgers and wings . Service is generally good, but it is super busy during HH, so order drinks and food when waitstaff initially comes to your table if you are ready to order. Many times there are no tables and we sit at the bar. Bar tenders are always great and can help you decide what to order if you are newbies. read more

Went to Kitchen and Rail in Eagan for the first time on Sunday December 3, 2023 for brunch. Arrived around 12:40 PM. Restaurant was not even close to half full of customers. There was tons of staff on duty. We were seated immediately. Took waitress 10 minutes to take a drink order. By that time we had decided on food as well so we ordered everything at once. Ordered bloody Mary's first and were told they were completely out of Bloody Mary mix. Really? Before 1:00 PM on a Sunday brunch day? Perhaps one of the many staff members could have run down to Byerly's or Total Wine to grab some Bloody Mary mix! ‍ Ordered our food. After 30 minutes, the server asked if we needed anything. I replied yes, our food! She said she had no idea why it was so slow but she could bring us some donuts. Um, if I wanted donuts I would have ordered donuts. She assured us the food would arrive soon, fresh and hot. After another 10 minutes, the food arrived. The eggs, sausage, bacon and toast were fine. Hash browns were ice cold. No offer to take anything off our bill for the wait or anything. I've heard many good things about this establishment. However, I will never go back. Huge disappointment! read more

The most hospitable restaurant we have found in the southeast metro! The food quality is outstanding. The service we received was extraordinary. We hosted our daughter's engagement party & it was PERFECT! We picked a variety of food items & it was served in shifts. No one left hungry. We were able to share a Prosecco toast in honor of the couple. The atmosphere is very warm & inviting. Awesome wine list, great cocktails & and good selection of liquor if you're wanting something that's not on their menu (bourbon, tequila, vodka). Our favorite food item was the pork belly sliders. We made a reservation to celebrate our 3rd anniversary. We had been wanting to try it since we saw the article in the Times. I've never had so many things go wrong at one restaurant in the same evening in my life. Made a reservation for 2 people at 6 pm on a Tuesday night. Got there at 5:55 pm and they only had large tables left , for 6 people. Ok. They gave us the last one right next to the bathroom. As we were being seated the hostess told us the one bartender for the entire bar (which was full) would also be our waiter. Ok We had lots of time to sit at our large table with nothing on it and read and reread the menu. At 6:35 the bartender was free to take our drink order for 2 lite beers on tap. When he delivered those he said he'd be back to take our order When we finished our beers about 7:05 he was back to take our order. We said we would share a bowl of soup, bring 2 spoons, and crackers. He said he'd get that and be back to take our order. He eventually came back with a little cup of soup, two spoons and no crackers. We grab spoons to taste the soup to make sure it was hot. Absolutely cold! He returned 10 minutes later to let us know there would be no bowl of soup as all the soup had been destroyed? We ordered several things that they were out of so I asked for smoked salmon dip and crackers. We also ordered meatballs as they were recommended. I got a little dish of what tasted like tuna fish and looked like a cafeteria portion you'd get in a hospital while visiting someone. The crackers were like a PepperRidge Farm long twirled cookies with no flavor. The meatball was few and yes, cold. I retuned the "smoked salmon" and we said we would try the cauliflower/ bar.b.que and share a Caesar salad with anchovies. The cauliflower can in an iron skillet. It was cold and so was the food. The sauce had potential had it been served right away and warm. At 8:10 our salad arrived. It was really really wet and not with dressing. Although it was dressed no one dried it after washing the lettuce and also left lots of brown wilted pieces. We tried a bite when two tiny anchovies arrived in a giant bowl. We expressed our disappointment and were given a buy 1 wine and get another of equal or lesser value free and told to try it on a night when they were not so busy. As we couldn't get out fast enough we did walk by the open kitchen that was slathered and mean slathered with food and litter all over the floor! We hurried home and had some chips and guacamole as we were too hungry to go right to bed. Wished each other a happy Anniversary and prayed we never encounter another restaurant like that ever again! We promised to also read the reviews from that day forward...and coincidentally. When I read the ones for Kitchen and Rails in Eagan Mn many have had a similar experience. read more

I went here on a Friday night, and it was busy, had a great atmosphere, and the service was wonderful. When you first drove up to the strip mall, you don't expect there to be a nice restaurant next to a chipotle. However, once you walk inside, they have nice mood, lighting, decor, and it has a very relaxing vibe. We started with a Mezcal cocktail, red wine, and the famous Nanas meatballs. Then, we tried the caviar and chips, the cheeseburger sliders, the famous filet mignon sandwich, and the salsa parmigiano. And, we had to try the pasta, so we tried to Vin rosé pasta. For dessert, we tried the better than sex cake and the Italian donuts. The Italian donuts with the Italian espresso frosting was incredible. If you're looking for a high end dinner that won't break the bank and a place where you could share meals al La carte style and is in the suburbs, I highly recommend this spot. Kitchen and Rail has the cutest decor! The restaurant itself is on the smaller side but beautifully decorated and l very cozy. The service was good - we did have a reservation and had to wait about 5 minutes to be seated. Server was attentive and provided great recommendations. I ordered the Vietnamese pork belly - it was fantastic! The glaze was amazing! My only con was that it was a bit of a smaller portion size than what I was expecting. We also order the Better than sex cake for desert - I wasn't overly impressed with the cake as it was a bit dry. Overall the experience was great! read more
