I don't usually write reviews unless it was a service that absolutely exceeded my expectations. In this circumstance Re-Model Design & Build gets all the praise for a full-scale remodel they did on my residence in San Jose. I was originally working with a different contractor and I had concerns that they weren't going to be able to meet my needs. That is when I met Tal Braun and he took in all of the information. There was zero pressure and he was very informative and insightful. He took me to see a project that his crew was working on in SJ and when I saw the crew working I knew that they were the right company for me. The most impressive part of the process is the communication amongst the teams. Despite supply chain issues and delays, they were still able to hit all of the timelines because we had to move out of the house for the construction. I won't belabor the review, just know that you can trust Tal and his team. He was straightforward and trustworthy throughout the process. I have already referred him to several friends. Hired them to redo one of the sidings of our condo building in 2020. After many hiccups and delays, they finished the job. However, with the last heavy rains water started leaking inside through the window frames they redid, which were supposed to have a 10-year leak warranty. I tried emailing them but all their emails are now bouncing. I had the phone of the CEO, Shlomo "Sol" Akeri, whom I called and he said to email him the details and he'd take care of it; of course, I never heard back and now he's not even answering calls or emails. read more

Firstly, I want to provide some background.. We just bought a home that had a kitchen that was unusable. We had given notice to our apartment to move out in a month so that we don't bear both the mortgage and the rent together. Hence we only had a month to remodel the Kitchen so speed to completion was the highest priority for me. We did get bids from 2 other companies as well and we went with Remodel Design and Build after talking to Tal (their Project Mgr). The first thing that set them apart was the in-person time they spent in looking at the Kitchen, measuring everything, and providing detailed specifics on what needs to be done. At the end, they provided me a detailed quote on each and every line item, unlike others who lumped everything in their quote which could quickly turn into guess work. The second thing was the Time to completion. They gutted the old kitchen and fully finished the new kitchen to perfection in 3 weeks time (including permits, inspections, labor etc).. This was unbelievable and was the most important aspect for us. Nhi was our Foreman and had an excellent handle on things. He foresaw many things upfront and gave us suggestions to change or replace so that things fall well in place. As you can imagine, gutting a kitchen, replacing flooring and getting a new kitchen including all appliances installed is no small job, but Nhi and team finished everything on Time and the day we moved in is when they moved out.. Could not have asked for a better timing with my 4 yr old and old parents with me, the last thing I wanted was a dusty and noisy home. But it was well taken care of before we arrived so that we can start living. They are definitely not the cheapest out there but they are the most professional, on time, transparent and don't charge a dime beyond what was signed on the dotted line. My experience with Re-Model Design & Build Co. and Sol, the Project Manager, was stellar! I have dealt with my fair share of flakey contractors, but they have regained my confidence in the industry. They differ from a lot of other contractors. Never have I had a project manager who felt like my partner. Sol was there to represent me and my interests. He is like my personal "fixer". Anything I needed to be done, he did. They came on time, followed all of my directions, came back promptly if I thought something else needed to be done, and completed the project within the quoted time. There was a problem with some of the scheduling which pushed back the work a couple of days, but Sol solved it. I didn't have to spend my day dealing with it. The cost was extremely reasonable for the quality of work that was done. I will be coming back to them for my rental units in the near future. I would highly recommend them for bathroom, kitchen or general remodeling. Update: Have had them work on some other projects since my first review and they have exceeded my requirements. This company led by its CEO Shlomo Akeri (License # 042279) will give you nightmares if you go with them. He will extort money from you by threatening to withdraw crew; will not pay his subs resulting in liens against your property; will invoice for work that has not even started and will invoice you for payment plan as per contract revisions that he does not recognize. I have suffered all the above abuse. I just paid a lien to the Lumber company since he did not pay them despite my telling him to do so when the Prelien notice was received and therefore they recorded a mechanics lien against me. He ordered Concrete Pouring for my remodel after several requests and then did not take calls from the vendor once they were done who then took the money from me by intimidating with a lien. He has abandoned my project and has pocketed more than 50% money with 10-15% of the work completed. We were depending on the completion of the project for a major family event and that was completely ruined by him. I can continue to tell more sordid details of my project but let me tell you a few things you can verify yourself and a few pieces of advice. BTW, I am aware of two other families that he has devastated in a similar manner. Also be careful that he will blame all the trouble on other people like Nestor Cabrerra but not on himself. Don't trust a word!! 1. He has been referred to legal Action by the CSLB (See Photo) 2. His license is qualified by an RMO (Responsible Manufacturing Officer) (See photo). This means that he cant get a license on his own and that he has used the RMO's credentials to get the license. As part of this deal the RMO, NHI HAI NGUYEN is supposed to supervise the projects in addition to many other duties. Google for the responsibilities of a RMO. This RMO had never visited my project until I contacted him. Here is free advice for you. Thank me later 1. If you have received a 30 page quote from him, throw it in the trash immediately. You are a really lucky one. 2. If you are his customer already, get out if you can even if it means taking some loss. If you can't get out, don't allow him to extort you unlike what I did, make sure he is paying his subs and don't pay a penny more than you are required to. Keep an eye for the Mechanics Liens that will be coming your way and get legal help early to safeguard yourself. 3. If you are already in trouble like I am, pray since your only recourse is a lawsuit. Contact me if you have been his victim too. Maybe we can work together. read more

Back in 2019, Re-Model replaced my old wooden porch with new pavers. I had previously written a negative review about a problem with the job. I am revoking that review :-) Re-Model contacted me and went out of their way to repair the problem (cracks in the sand used as "mortar"). I appreciate that, years later, they went above & beyond make things right. They even fixed some additional cracks & left me some sand for future repairs. My porch looks great now! read more

We had a great rapport with Adi right away and felt we could trust her.  She was upfront with us that our initial timeline was unrealistic, but she did everything she could to make sure the work was done as soon as possible. The quote she gave us was clear, and there were no overage or add-ons, This was our first experience with extensive renovations, but Adi walked us through the process and gave us a detailed timeline so we would know what to expect. Communication was excellent throughout the project. Re-Model, Design and Build provided us with a designer, Anne, to draw up the plans of the bathrooms. Anne was great! She took us around to showrooms and very patiently helped us track down what we were looking for. She also kept us from making rookie mistakes, and I could not be more pleased with the way the bathrooms turned out. Our foreman was David, and he and his crew went above and beyond to make sure things were as we wanted. We have been in our new home for several weeks now, and I am thoroughly impressed with the overall quality of the craftsmanship throughout. Minor problems did arise (mostly around materials being delayed and/or  arriving damaged) but Re-Model, Design and Build worked with us to find solutions that wouldn't push back our completion date and helped us get refunds from our suppliers. We worked with Tal, David & folks from Re-model Design for: 1) A complete remodel of our kitchen 2) Upgrades to 2 bathrooms 3) Recessed lighting/fans for the entire house 4) Painting for a few rooms We loved that we were able to discuss all aspects of the work and got a very clear quote on the work and Re-model design had the best quote and their timelines also were super efficient. The project took around 2 months to complete and we were blocked by city inspections but the team itself worked extremely fast to get things moving to help us finish on time. The crew is extremely professional and special shout outs to the tile work and the painting. We did have some issues with what we ordered, measurements taken incorrectly among other things but the team worked with us to help resolve it and find alternatives. It was a lot of extra work to communicate the designer's plans with the actual team each time a new piece of work was picked up. We also think staying on top of things and double checking everything helps to make sure both sides are on the same page for the project. Overall, super happy with the end result and would not hesitate to use them again for big remodel projects in the future. read more

We hired Nestore Cabrera as our GC from this company and unfortunately it was a big mistake. Things got so bad (no show, very bad craftsmanship, drinking on site, massive delays, etc...) that the owner, Sol, had to get involved and eventually fired Nestore and his team from our project. The new contractor, Elias, was good and did his best to finish our project and fixed Nestore's mistakes but unfortunately some couldn't be fixed. We were very grateful that Sol took over this project however disappointed that he let things go on for so long before he got involved. This experience was extremely difficult and in the end we didn't get what we were hoping for. We ended with poor quality, average cost and it took way more time than scheduled. As a result we do not recommend Re-Model Design & Build. read more

We worked with Re-Model Design & Build for our kitchen remodel and we're VERY happy about our new kitchen! Although we had an idea to transform our old kitchen to new one with open floor plan, we're not sure where to start. It was our first remodel experience and we needed to deal with a load-bearing wall to make the floor plan open. We're overwhelmed but they helped us with the design and very detailed proposal. My husband and I were looking to remodel our kitchen, and as one should, I researched several contractors outside of the one provided by the given Big Box store where we purchased our cabinets. I selected three that I found on yelp. I interviewed all three, and Re-Model Design & Build was the one I chose. Why: From the initial contact, I spoke with Adi Lee, and she had a few questions for me. What was I looking for? What was our budget? When could we meet? She also told me a few things about the company, beginning with they are an A to Z company. Adi was highly professional; she looked around our kitchen and had the same ideas that I had in mind (Love at first meeting). She later sent me a detailed proposal of the project, including costs and scope of work. After talking with the other two contractors, I decided to go with Re-Model Design & Build, not because of price but because of the communication with Adi Lee. ( Renovations are hectic, and communication is essential). Also, I am a very picky person with high standards of professionalism. What they did: A complete gut job on our existing kitchen from raising a portion of the ceiling to replacing floors and adding new cabinets, sink, backsplash, recessed lights, plumbing, bench seating, electrical, painting, getting the permits, the works. How the process went: The entire process went smoothly. Adi Lee was on point after I got a call from the cabinet distributors giving a delivery date. They got the permit submitted, and the next thing I knew, Gio was outside with a sign and inside with some paperwork for the project. The port hottie was delivered the same day, and the next day they arrived with the foreman ( Elias and his team) starting the work. The only surprise was the extra cost to add the extended backsplash, so be prepared. (Everyone charges for an extended backsplash; we just didn't know the price). We did it anyway! So glad we did!! I could go on forever talking about my experience with Re-Model Design & Build, but I'd never finish the review. Just look at our before and after photos and GO WITH THIS COMPANY. Sol Akeri was the project manager on our remodel in 2017 and we couldn't have been more pleased. Our job was remodeling all three of our bathrooms and some work in our bedroom too. From start to finish it was extremely professional. From the first consultation to connecting us with the right designer to the different phases of the job to the end it was so smooth and satisfying. The pace was fast and organized. The designer he chose for us, Marian London, was extremely experienced and comprehended what we wanted. Once she had designed the three bathrooms, Sol's people went to work demolishing the old and beginning to build the new. Since we were doing three bathrooms, he was sensitive that we needed a working bathroom at all times, so he knew that the small upstairs bathroom would be first. The payment structure was logical and a payment was due at every phase. The only delays we had were because the vanity that we had ordered for my bathroom came in wrong and had to be reordered and the mirror that should have had a bevel didn't. From the first moment I felt like I have someone to trust, he provided value information and I felt like I have the right contractor in hand. The price was very competitive compare to others, but much more details . Sol send out his designer to help me select all the finish materials. The job was great and I'm very happy with the final results. We did run into a small problem with the countertop insulation but all it needed is a call to Sol and the problem was resolved. I called around and no one was able to help most people told me they are two months out. When I found Re-Model they were able to send their project manager Tal the following day ( talk about great service). Tal came out and provided me with a bid the following day. Run fast! It has taken us 5 months to finally put this review in as we were traumatized from the entire experience with ReModel. This company is awful. They lied from the very beginning by stating they were all "in house" (from architecture,design, build, etc)... they sub everything out. They use unlicensed workers and do not pay the subcontractors(homeoners you are liable if they get injured and they can put liens on your home). They dropped the ball royally with initial permit approvals with the City (ReModel stopped replying to changes and the plans were awful). I had to personally work with City for approval and project manage the entire project. The owner, Sol, at first, seemed like a good guy but ultimately ended up trying to use intimidation tactics to have us pay outside of agreed schedule of payments and his treatment of the subs is just awful. Due to his unlawful threats we had to do a ton of legal research and invest in a well-known attorney. The company has multiple complaints against them with the CSLB and I am unsure how or why they are able to maintain their license as everything they do is unlawful. We have been in communication with 4 other clients all of which have had the same experience. I will add that due to our quick actions and persistence we were able to complete our project slightly after target date and within the contracted amount. But, the work is not stellar and comes with longevity concerns. I would not wish this experience on anyone! If you are just starting or midway through your project with them, I would get out now. If we could do it over again we would pay double to not have to deal with this company or Sol. read more

We recently got our home remodeled with Re-Model Design and Build and we have had such a great experience working with the team, especially with Tal Braun. From Day 1 Tal was very organized, detail oriented and very effective in communication. He ensured the whole process was smooth and a great experience for us. We were very impressed with how they finished work faster than the timelines we had set. So we redid the garage , 2 bathrooms, side yard and the whole house painting interior & exterior. The team did a very good job and Tal suggests a lot of improvements and ideas and we incorporated them and it ends up looking so much better for your house. Quality of work is amazing , they take care to ensure every thing is perfect and if we notice something and point it out, they fix it for us right away. Tal and team are very flexible and we ended up getting more work done that we initially planned to and they were very accommodating of the changes. My wife and I just bought a house in San Jose and we needed someone to help us with remodeling our master bathroom and kitchen. After coming across Re-Model and reading the great reviews we decided to call them and schedule an appointment for an in home consultation. Tal the project manager arrived on time and spend three hours with us helping us decide on what is best for us. The following day we received a detailed bid which specified what is included and what is not included (let me tell you that out of 4 bids, tal's bid was the most professional). We ended up going with them and we are so happy we did so. Tal was great from start and communication was A+. The team always left the house clean and gave us the feeling they know what they are doing. The whole project took six weeks which is less than what Tal told us in the beginning (). Overall remodel is a great contractor and we would recommend them to everyone we know. I have to say we did have a minor problem with two of the kitchen cabinets that arrived damaged and when we called Tal he sent his Forman to replace it the same day. read more

I'm in the business of flipping houses. I interviewed with multiple general contractors in the region. I got a total of five biddings. Their bid was the reasonable price range. Senior manager Tal came out for an estimate and stayed about 2hours to communicate with all the detailed scope of work. Most of other contractors just spent 15-20mins. He provided an estimates in two days without missing any details. Based on my experience, it was very impressive because I usually had to wait about a week for an estimate. Tal and the general manager Sol arranged a tour for us to go to see one of their current projects. We liked the quality of the job, so we hired them for our MV condo renovation. It was an extensive renovation including kitchen, two bathrooms, a new decorative fireplace, new hardwood floor, new doors, new texturing to remove the old popcorn ceiling. They finished the job as they promised on time and on budget. The foreman David was in charge of the whole project and tried to coordinate well with our requests. The final jobs finished with finest attention to detail. We hope to continue this on our next project. read more

Needing to fix up my parents' home to put it up for sale, I had a contractor that came out to the property, took photos and got info, but then never followed up to give me a bid. We wanted to get the property on the market quickly, so I called my realtor for suggestions after wasting a week waiting, and he told me to call Re-Model Design & Build. Within a day or so, Sol and Tal met me at the property and we went around to figure out the projects that needed to be done to help the house sell. Unlike the last fellow, they followed through quickly and were able to start as soon as we finished an estate sale. Tal was the project manager and did a great job. He kept me in the loop with texts and photos of the progress. He sent me photos of items they needed to buy to verify it was what I wanted. He worked with the realtor's stager to help pick the right items, colors and styles. They even did several additional smaller "fix-it" projects that they thought would help the home sell better without charging me extra just because they wanted to do good work. As Tal said, "We don't like to nickel & dime you." They even had their carpet installer work on the weekend so it would be ready for the staging and photos on Monday.
