Kitchen Story was quite disappointing. While the KFC and Waffles ($17) looked fabulous, the taste and texture were not only underwhelming but honestly bad. The waffles were hard to cut up and eat, and I was faked out by a bunch of fried cauliflower that was made to look like the fried chicken. Given that chicken is a cheap meat, I'm surprised they would skimp, but it was also pretty dry so I wasn't missing out on too much. Another note: all of the fruits were sour, which might be due to the season, however, the maple syrup was also sour/salty, and that felt more like an unnecessary choice. It gets 2 stars simply for the beautiful presentation of the dish, but I would skip this location if you're a brunch lover. read more

Came here a few months ago to catch up with one of my college roommates before she went off to med school, and I don't regret the choice! This place definitely gets packed, so if you plan on coming here on the weekend for brunch, expect to encounter a wait time because it's a popular spot! We has outdoor seating so our table was pretty cozy along the sidewalk. I think it's pretty interesting that they made the place work despite not having a big patio to work with like many other brunch spots I've been to. I'm pretty impressed since they still manage to accommodate customers to the best of their abilities. I ordered the country benedict and matcha latte. The country benedict was brought out fresh, it tasted savory, and was extremely filling and satisfying. The matcha latte is just as pretty as the pictures present here on Yelp, but also know that the drink itself is creamy and strong! Parking is also hard to find but it does make sense, it's on a busy street. The food overall was good but not spectacular. The portions were kinda small for my liking. I usually eat a lot but definitely felt way more hungry than usual after finishing my omurice. The scramble which was $16 was really small too. The mimosas are bomb tho and strong! Definitely worth the $9 for a glass or $22 for bottomless. Service was good and everyone's very friendly. I'd come here again if it wasn't as busy but with covid and everything, I just didn't feel comfortable, especially since our seat was right by the kitchen/restroom. Kitchen Story just didn't do it for me. It started with the two hour wait. 0_o We were under the impression that it would be 60 minutes but it was more like 120 minutes. We were sat upstairs at the table closet to the stair which also happened to be where the line to the one restroom that they have started to form. We literally had people standing over us waiting to use the restroom. At any given time throughout our meal there were four people waiting in line. They had one waitress upstairs and although very nice she was extremely forgetful. I ordered an orange juice, didn't get it until well into my meal whereas the other people I was with received their soft drinks right away. I ordered the KFC and Waffle and I asked that it come with regular maple syrup and she forgot and when I reminded her, she forgot again until my sister literally went to the bar and told her we could not eat our food without it (did not like the spicy syrup it came with). When they brought my side of eggs (well into my meal), I asked for salt and pepper and again... she forgot and had to be reminded. The service for my first experience wasn't that great and I probably won't return. However, the food was pretty good as I expected it would be as a sister to BSC. As I stated above, I ordered the KFC and Waffle with a side of eggs and a glass of Orange juice. Everything was delicious once I got the maple syrup and the salt and pepper. My sister got the same thing as me without the eggs and my husband ordered two servings of waffles, no chicken and a side of pork sausage. They ordered a diet coke and a 7up. Our total came up to about $114.00 before tip. The ambiance upstairs was okay. A lot of natural light and about 9 tables with a bar. I didn't like exposed boxes against the way to the right, but it's a all restaurant so it is what it is. Quick notes: Long, ridiculous waits on the weekend with inaccurate timing. I am shocked that even on a super rainy day people still wanted to come here to eat. My wait was about 30 mins for a party of 5 at around 11am-12pm. Typically it would be longer during this time despite the weather. The food was really good! My favorite would have to be the Korean fried chicken & waffles because it was like eating a big piece of popcorn chicken lol. The syrup was more salty than sweet to me so I'm eh on that. We used to frequent the Castro location in our SF days. I'd been here once before randomly and got avo toast and bacon (I can't eat eggs). I remember being really disappointed and suggesting my neighbor NOT get it because it was small, the toast wasn't good, and I left dissatisfied. The waitlist system keeps everything super organized so you're never wondering when they're going to call your name - you'll get a text when your table is ready. After we were seated, we were told it would take 45 minutes to receive our food and that it wouldn't all come out at the same time, which we were fine with. I appreciated the head's up. But keep that in mind and don't come absolutely ravenous or you'll get real hangry while you wait. I decided to get the blackstone Benedict which comes with the famous millionaire's bacon. This was my second time eating here. However, we arrived 30 minutes before closing at 2:20 PM, which might explain why the Yukon potatoes and pancakes were cold. No matter when you arrive, your food should always be served hot. The servers were bustling and mistakenly delivered food to the wrong tables, and there was no apology or effort to remake the dishes. As a germaphobe, I dislike the idea of someone breathing on my food. Restaurants must improve their service, especially since we are still expected to pay despite these issues. It was cold as all the doors were open. I don't know how much they think about their customer not just money. This place is SO good! I've been here many times for brunch and every time gets better and better. Tips: join the Yelp Waitlist before you show up! Really saves you time of waiting around and super easy to use. It notifies you exactly when you need to show up at the restaurant. Once your time comes, you get a text and go see the host. I had a party of 3 and average wait was over an hour but joining the waitlist ahead of time, we only waited 5 minutes. I had the crab Benedict, millionaires bacon, and a mimosa. A really nice breakfast spot (and a lot more) that I suggest checking out if you're in the area and want to try something different than the usual bacon and egg spots. I was excited to try the Korean fried chicken and waffle dish, but it didn't spark joy for me. The food was good quantity, quality and prepared well, but the flavors didn't hit the mark for me. The waffle and maybe chicken were pre sweetened in some way (maybe just syrup on top) and I didn't get the salty/savory contrast I was expecting. It was just sweet fried chicken over a sweet waffle. The batter on the chicken was heavy like fish and chips and the waffle was pretty dense (maybe to hold up to the pile of chicken on top). I never touched the side of spiced syrup because I couldn't imagine wanting the fish to be any sweeter. Not for me but some might love it. We also tried one of the scrambles and it was great, interesting flavor combination and fantastic breakfast potatoes on the side. Parking on the street wasn't too difficult at 9am on Saturday. My sister had arrived first and our table was ready but the hostess would not seat her until we were all there. We were a party of 4. They should've been told to get up and wait till their whole party was there. First of all, while they won't organize ppl waiting outside so we all get bumped into each other including to the servers with plates on their arms. Have dined here twice since the start of this pandemic: once for takeout and another time for their outdoor dining. Due to popularity and to meet COVID-19 precautions, we made reservations ahead of time. I definitely felt comfortable dining here. Tables were set a good distance apart from one another and staff were wearing masks. Menus could be viewed by scanning the QR code on the table. Service was great as usual. We went on a particular sunny day, so they set up an umbrella for shade. In addition, they wiped down the tables and food came out quickly. I stuck with the tornado galbi omurice whilst my friend opted for the millionaire's bacon and eggs with a side of their crispy potatoes. Their crispy potatoes were perhaps the best country style potatoes I've ever had! The texture was perfect and the herbage was on point. I really like Kitchen Story because I feel like it offers dishes that typical brunch places don't offer. Plus, with a pandemic going on, it's nice to finally go out and grab brunch with a friend and feel safe doing so. Definitely worth checking out. read more

Kitchen Story, why are you so good!!! We got here pretty late on a Sunday night. There is a small patio for outside dining. Because there were only three other parties, we didn't feel uncomfortable.. but I could imagine it being crowded, and the tables would just be way too close to each other. Other than that, I did enjoy the atmosphere and lighting of the outside. When ordering, I felt like they really spent a lot of time creating their menu. There were some ordinary dishes they put a unique twist on. Millionaire's way - We ordered this because it reminded us of Orchard City Kitchen in Campbell. I am not a fan of bacon unless it's in bits on my pizza; however, this one was sooo good. The bacon itself was pretty thick and the flavoring was in the middle of both sweet and savory. Biscuits, butter, and bacon ahhh such a good combo! A must order for sure.. I tried to contain myself and not eat too much because it was only our appetizer! Mango margarita - This was much smaller than I expected, but presentation wise, very cute. Nothing special or different.. probably would skip on this Buddha bless you - !!! This is one of the most prettiest and tastiest alcoholic drinks I have ever tasted. First sip, I was like o: you could barely taste the alcohol but it isn't one of those drinks where it's all watered down sugar alcohol. I mean the description itself sounds good.. hibiscus infused vodka and lotus syrup. A must!! Millionaire's bao - I was extremely hesitant about this and how wrong it could go.. but I was pleasantly surprised. The bacon itself was already so delicious, I just didn't know how it would go with the banh bao. To my surprise, it went really well together! I have had bad experiences with really dry and pasty banh bao, happy to say the bao here was super moist and everything in it complimented each other nicely. Super happy with this. If you are deciding between the millionaire's way or bao, I probably would get the millionaire's way.. only because I felt that the honey butter with the bacon was to die for. KFC dinner - This is an absolute must order!! I am drooling thinking about how good this was. The cheesy corn was super creamy and the potato wedges dipped in the corn was ahhhh. What a pleasant surprise by the potato wedges. They were crispy and seasoned very well. The wings were a good size; however, I was expecting more flavor to the wings. They are very standard but after finishing the dish, I come to realize that the wedges and the cheesy corn emit the desired flavor and if the chicken was also seasoned heavily, it would get extremely sickening. Sexy aloha - Very cute and aesthetic presentation with the rice in the pineapple shell. I think the pineapple rice was pretty standard and the rice felt a little too moist almost soggy for my taste. This was prob the only thing I wouldn't order again. I am really impressed by the quality and aesthetics of dishes at Kitchen Story and I definitely recommend trying this place out. Next time I am in the area, I must try their brunch menu! read more
