Mmmkay, ordered from GrubHub a Southern Fried Chicken Club. Over an hour and a half later recieved some iced cold curly fries and sandwich from a delivery driver who had his phone glued to his ear. I called the restaurant, told them the issue, and while two different people (including the manager) told me that they have no control over the order in which the deliveries occur (I'm thinking you kinda do), I was nevertheless offered a resolution. The manager offered me 50% off my order or to redo the order. Since I was hungry and at work I opted for the meal do-over. The sandwich was good with all components eaten together, very fresh and good quality ingredients. Really liked the batter on the boneless thigh but could of used a little salt and pepper. Went here on a Tuesday night and damn the fried chicken is good. They have all you can eat fried chicken for $9.99 on Tuesdays and it is some of the finest fried chicken around (even better than Popeye's - although don't tell Tony Bourdain that). They do serve alcohol and have 5-6 beers on the menu including Goose Island Mild Winter, which I ordered, but not much else. Regardless, the food is solid, prices are reasonable, and service is great. Can you ask for much more? Would definitely go back. read more

After having a late night, I woke up to my stomach screaming at me to EAT! Luckily my hunk said that Roscoe Village had some good brunch spots. Enter in my handy dandy Yelp BB Application. Ta-da! We found this place. I was glad that we picked Kitsch'n! Such a lovely atmosphere--it was small, cute & very 50's like. The service was top-notch & we were greeted with a big jug of coffee! Mmm yummy. Huge mugs mind you--so you really are getting a deal. Now for the meal... I ordered Two Eggs & A Jack Platter. Two eggs (cooked to your choice) 2 sausage links or bacon strips (I choose bacon) potato wedges & your choice of carb (English muffin please!) The meal was served pipin' hot & cooked perfectly. What did he order? Eggs in a basket. Ooy googey eggs cooked in toast. Nicely done. It was good, fast, & cheap. If I'm in the area I'll stop in again. After a night of being a hot mess, I've learned the thing that can really set you straight (read: put you into a peaceful coma for the afternoon) is a hot brunch. And if that's what you're looking for, Kitsch'n does the trick. Kitsch'n is in a great location and although small, has great decor and that small town cafe vibe without feeling forced. I've been there on the weekend for brunch and it was full but not crowded, and we were able to sit up at the bar without any wait, which is not too common in Lakeview for brunch. They have a small TV behind the bar, but it plays without sound. Good place to have a satisfying meal without the bother of TV distraction, not so great if you're trying to catch the game. The servers are young and don't quite fit the diner server stereotype, but they are super nice and attentive even when it's busy. The menu is full of comfort food. It's not overly complicated, and a lot of the dishes are definitely things that you could whip up at home if you're a good enough chef, but who wants to do that when you wake up feeling like the contents of a dryer's lint tray after five loads? The chilaquiles are a great hangover cure, and they're labeled as such on the menu. I also recommend the huevos locos for anyone looking for something to soak up the remainder of last night's alcoholic escapades. They're hearty and although it says they're spicy on the menu, they're not really that hot. They do have chicken and waffles on their menu, but as a worshipper in the house of Roscoe's, I wouldn't commit this heresy. If I order chicken and waffles, it doesn't need to be said that I'm not preparing for an America's Next Top Model audition. Bring on the carbs and fat. Kitsch'n gives you like, a half a waffle and a couple tiny pieces of fried chicken. What is this, a sample booth at Costco? Stick to the other brunch items and you'll be a happy camper. read more

I wish I could have a better review for this restaurant. To be honest though, I wasn't even given the chance. I came here for brunch on a sunday. For having 1 1/2 patios and inside area i'd hope you'd prepare your kitchen for that type of capacity - but it wasn't even full. None the less, we were seated at our table and at regular time were greeted by ????? server. There are no introductions anymore to friendly service at restaurants only "Do you two know what you'd like to order?" So I guess i'll order my drink because that's the only thing i've decided on this far. Drinks get dropped off in reasonable time. No complaints other than the sever dipsets to forget us for another 15 minutes. FINALLY we get a chance to order and she leaves with it only to return in a couple and tell us the kitchen is EXTREMELY backed up. Well have to wait a long time and that she's only telling us so we can cancel. UHHH OKAY? I guess we'll cancel. takes the canceled order away and comes back AGAIN to tell us we can actually put our food order in if we still want to. ?!?!?!?! Last time I checked you don't hire kitchen staff that can't handle a large seating sunday brunch and an incompetent servers staff who deter customers by recommending canceling their orders. Thankfully orange with a peel NEXT DOOR had no wait and was able to immediately handle our order with no issues. read more

Some people would walk into Kitch'n and walk right out. My wife, for example, thinks it's a dump. I, on the other hand, think it's brilliant. I love the 80's motif and all the memorabilia on the wall. The servers are always cracking jokes and not because it's the restaurants novelty. They're genuinely funny. Someone in there always seems to make me laugh. Maybe the restaurants decor that puts me in a giddy mood. It would be difficult to recreate this place. What's with all the cruddy reviews? When I lived in Roscoe Village a few years ago, I used to eat at Kitsch'n all the time and I loved it. I get back there every few months or so, and I really haven't noticed any drop in quality. Of course I almost always have the exact same thing: the chilaquiles. They're completely inauthentic, but they're absolutely fantastic. And they come with great bacon and a big ole slab of tasty Texas toast. A buddy of mine lives right above the place, and from what he tells me, the food is always better during the week instead of the weekend. According to him, it's because they get so busy and the kitchen is so small that they're forced to pre-cook a lot of the stuff. I don't know about that, but it sounds plausible to me. What can I say? Go there during the week when you can take your pick of tables. Order the chilaquiles. And by the way-- my experience is that the waitstaff is extremely friendly and accomodating. Lay off of them! I've only eaten here once and once was enough. we went on a sunday afternoon totally hungover. surprisingly it was dead which is nice. Its a lot smaller then you would think but I faintly remember someone saying that there are more tables in another room. I had an omelet i think, obviously it was not a meal to remember. All I do remember is that it tasted like nothing and the hot sauce that they had at the table was awful. I like my hot sauce hot and flavorful not just hot. the rest of my party had the chilatiquila's (?) something like that and I believe they enjoyed it. The friend that took us there said that it wasn't that great of a place but that it was necessary to eat their first before experiencing Orange. I have no idea why. but she says that Orange is awesome, can't wait to find out. Our server was nice but very deadpan/unenthusiastic. He was kinda odd but talkative. Had the pleasure of checking out this place last weekend, and man was I satisfied. I had been craving chicken and waffles for quite some time now and this place hit the spot. I wasn't expecting the type of fried chicken they used; but it works! the chicken looks like a chicken fried steak type piece of chicken. waffle was crunchy and crispy! amazing stuff... only problem was not enough of it!!! My boyfriend and I used to come here quite often for breakfast/brunch. They have some pretty neat combinations including their to die for coconut French toast! I usually stick to the sweeter side while my boyfriend likes the huevos rancheros and other spicier dishes. We usually end up sitting at the bar since a lot of families need the table space. I have heard the bloody Marys are pretty good, but have not had one yet. So we used to come here a lot until the lines got real long after Rachael Ray visited. The first sign of trouble was when we sat down and looked over their menu: Kitsch'n replaced their Juevos Rancheros with Juevos Locos. By its description, bleh! I went for the Bayou Crab Cake Benedict. For $12.99, it's the most expensive breakfast item and an even bigger let down! The server informed me that they didn't have the Habanero cornbread hash the morning we dined there (Sat, Nov 19). She said she would substitute it with regular cornbread. I didn't get the mixed greens or cornbread or an English muffin or a discount for the chef's shortcomings on the order! Why pay full price when I'm missing half the entree? I didn't ask for a la carte; that's exactly what they served me. The coffee and water replenishment came once and I had to flag the dude down for it. Only good thing about this place is their throwback to the seventies decor with the exception of Leif Garrett's framed album cover hanging on a wall in the back room. The good. Place was indeed as kitschy as the name implied. Food was tasty. The bad. The place reeked of mildew, and they placed the empty water glasses on the surface of the table with the rim of the glass facing down. Given how unsanitary the rags that wipe each table might be, if they're even wiped, it was a BIG gross-out and restaurant no-no. I wound up eating outside because of the mildew smell, but if my friend didn't have her heart on going there, I would have just left before ordering my food. We both had their Spicy Crazy Eggs, also known as Huevos Locos. The egg were, as I said, tasty, but it still bothered me that my meal was made in an environment that smelled like mildew. All I can tell you is that the Borracho Breakfast Burrito is a must try. That's because out of our group of 5, EVERYONE ordered the burrito. Eggs, black beans, cheese, lots of veggies in a spinach tortilla. (It's big so you can save some for later). My brunch experience at Kitsch'n on Roscoe was fabulous! I split the special Mexican Eggs Benedict and the Crab Cake Eggs Benedict with my husband. The Mexican Eggs Benedict was like none other! The pumpkin mole sauce in place of the typical hollandaise was unreal. If I wouldn't have made a scene by doing so I would have licked the plate!!! The crab eggs benedict, accompanied by the habanero cornbread hash, was equally as tasty. The atmosphere is casual and inviting. The servers were attentive and kept the fresh coffee coming. A friend and I had brunch here in October 2013, and overall it was a good experience. I had the Huevos Locos and they were quite tasty, though not as "crazy" as the name suggests. Compared to other Mexican (or the TexMex I am used to), they were actually a bit bland. My friend ordered a mimosa and did not realize there were 2 different sizes. The waitress assumed she wanted the larger size, and we did not realize there were 2 sizes until the bill came. As far as the service, it was apparently an off-day for some, as one of the servers did not show up and the others were covering for her. So, after about 45 minutes of waiting, our server came back and apologized and told us that amidst the confusion, she'd also forgotten to place our order. She had to come back and ask us what we ordered because she hadn't written it down. We got our meal 50% off after that. I would go back to try it again because the server was very apologetic, and I imagine that is a really rare event. Went here for Sunday brunch based on a friend's recommendation. I was surprised that there wasn't a wait especially given that Retro on Roscoe was that weekend, but that's good thing. The menu was full of interesting dishes, and I ended up trying the crab benedict while my friend went the LA route and tried the chicken and waffles. Both were really tasty and delicious. Perhaps the Colt 45 w/Billy Dee Williams sign and other wacky 70s decor can occupy your time. There were so many 4 star reviews on yelp that I expected a lot more. We were seated kind of wedged in between two tables of people so my husband was shoulder to back with the lady at the next table. It wasn't packed in there and this was even more annoying later on when I went to the bathroom and saw that there was a ton of seating in the back of the restaurant. The big complaint really is that the food wasn't good. The chicken sandwich I had tasted ok but I only ate half because it just seemed like a heart attack waiting to happen and why fill up on something that is just ok, not even good? My potatoes were listed on the menu as rosemary potatoes but I don't really know what they were. They looked like a greasy brown blob and they tasted like it. The crab benedict was only ok and the greens with it were just that...no seasoning, no dressing, just some lettuce sitting there.The hot sauce on our table looked nasty, like 500 people had used it before us and it had never been wiped down. I'd wanted to use it but one look at it and there was no way. And there was so much dirt in the bathroom corners that I really, really wished I hadn't used it. Our waitress was awesome and really friendly but there are just too many other places in this city to spend my money here again. They have a solid selection of unique diner options which are all reasonably prices with healthy portion sizes. My friends and I sauntered in here on a Sunday morning, sat in the well-heated patio in the back, ordered: -The burrito borracho -The Southwest BBQ chicken omelette -Biscuits and gravy -Logger's Eggs (not sure what the official name of that dish was) The coffee was good too, which is a must for a good diner. review for DINNER... i swear everything on the menu comes straight from costco and onto your plate. the falafel and mixed greens side were just that... and they somehow messed up heating it up. i hated paying for (and barely eating) mushy falafel and rotting greens served messily on a dirty plastic plate. the only good part - the tzaziki - which i think was only "good" because i was starving. the prices are obnoxious for poor quality, out of the freezer food. i had brunch here years ago and thought it was decent but now i fear ever coming back. i feel robbed. read more

Despite the fact that I no longer live in Roscoe Village (I'll be back someday, love! I promise!) I still like coming back to Kitsch'n for a nice and hearty brunch--and they're available when I need them most, like the Sunday morning after THAT kind of Saturday night...=) We got there at 10:45am...which for Overeasy or Tweet standards, is serious busy time, but we walked in and were seated right away. As usual, our server was pretty chill and fairly attentive to us, and our food came out quite fast. I had the basil pesto and veggie omelet, which was superb--mmm, the melty cheese, carmelized onions, bits of pepper, fluffy egg...ohhh, I wish I could have devoured the entire thing, but the omelets there are HUGE! I do love their Danish hash browns, too--anything with an overload of rosemary is fine by me. And you can most definitely count on me to be back to enjoy their falafel pita and curly fries, too. The past two times we have ventured to Kitsch'n, the outdoor back patio was reserved for private events, so unfortunately we couldn't sit out back in the lovely warm weather. We sat out front in their other outdoor seating area which was still nice. We ordered an assortment of tacos and some drinks, and started with the chips and guac (also served with comp black bean dip).
