Yes! We love this place. It's so close to our home and makes a decent bullet proof even if it's a bit unconventional using coconut oil instead of ghee. We love the local athlete, so much so we make it at home now but still pop in to grab one every once in awhile because we can't quite get it right. We have never tried any of their food just the drinks so we will have to update the review if we ever do,' nothing has caught our eye other than a bulletproof coffee and the local athletic smoothie. Kiva has been disappointing lately, there is a serious lack of consistency at this place. While I still love their local athlete I can't help but be disappointed when I'm having to chomp through chunks of ice to "enjoy" it. I will admit that as a former barista I am a serious coffee snob. Kiva's barista nearly brought me to tears with the texture of the steamed milk in my lavender & earl grey late. It was perfect! Truly silky texture all the way through from first to last sip! This lovely lady will make your day, I am sure! I also had their Brie & pear panini. While thoroughly delicious I would suggest asking them to use a light hand on the marmalade. It adds a spectacular flavor, but the sweetness was a touch too much. My friend and I did a field trip down to Portland. We called in the morning to KIVA and reserved two massages at 4:30pm. We arrived super early at 2:30pm and figured we could get situated, grab our tea and treat and relax until the appointment. When we pulled up, the barista was closing the coffee shop early! There was a hand written sign on the door saying it was closing early and she also had a friend waiting for her. She was about to lock the doors until we told her we had an appointment in the spa, which I guess is in the back of the cafe. The barista put her purse down and made us tea and gave us stale cookies (the ones already in plastic wrap) then rushed out and left. If we hadn't arrived early, I'm sure we would have been locked out? Poor organization from the staff. Massage was average. We had one of their specials, with a massage, facial and scalp massage. The lame part was is that they do all of the services at once, so it feels kind of rushed and not as relaxing. read more

well... the food and service was very good. My only complaint would be the schedule inconsistency. I had an appointment for couples massage on our anniversary day. I got a call from the owner the day of the appointment and she asked if we could arrive earlier at a different time, and if not, we would have to re-schedule. We were only visiting Portland for our anniversary for the weekend, so we could not change the appointment. The issue was that we would have to take our services in separate rooms. I was disappointed about that. I didn't understood the reason for the change but I had to comply. I assumed it was because of issues with the corona virus and or lack of staff (i really don't know)... so it was a take it or leave it kind of thing. We had to cancel our brunch and drive there. For that reason, we were hungry when we arrived and ordered from their café. We ate so fast!!! in order to keep the appointment on time. But the sandwiches and coffee were very good!!! I do hate having a full belly before a massage... I also requested a female masseuse when i first made the appointment and when we arrived, it was a male one and a female one. I went with it with and took the gentleman. It was the first time I had a male masseuse and I must say that he was very professional and made me feel very safe and did a very good service... So i am glad i accepted his service. So if you get him ladies, you are in good professional hands. My husband also enjoyed his massage very much (his was a lady). But because of the time change and room separation we did not have the romantic experience we were looking for. It was not a relaxing romantic morning having missed our calm brunch, eating super fast and the disconnection of not having the same room during our service. I was really trying to wrap my head around a spa and a tea house under the same roof - but I'm not from PDX so I thought maybe it's how they do it there? All I can say is blown away! The spa is so unique and special, the high ceilings, the tall, antique doors, the delicious robes - and of course, the amazing service and massages. We did a couple's massage, I had Michelle, my Sweetie had Heather, and they were both phenomenal! They really had beautiful attitudes too, and made us feel completely comfortable and welcome, thank you Ladies! Prior to moving to Portland I was introduced to Kiva! I fell in love and, after moving here three years ago, have eaten here and brought many friends and out of town guests many many times - all loving it too! The bright and airy cafe, tasty drinks, and healthy but yummy food makes for a perfect Saturday morning! :) I've tried many dishes they serve here and always go back to the breakfast bowl with sausage, rice, egg, ginger, and spinach, and I Top it off with the "Sassy Sauce". I have always craved this and it has brought me back time and time again, cannot go wrong! A while back I discovered you guys no longer have these breakfast bowls nor the Sassy Sauce and, while I absolutely love Kiva, I don't find myself going back much at all. This cafe is very unique because of the open garage style space that allows natural lighting to come in. The energy in the cafe is positive and the food is so yummy and healthy. There are morning bowls at 8:30 AM till closing... they consist of acai bowls with generous amounts of fresh fruit and gluten free granola. The smoothie menu is something to check out. My favorite is the Maca Almond Energy: maca powder, almond milk, bananas, dates, and almond butter. I love all the facial products that are sold there. It smells nice inside and it is a great place to bring your laptop and get some work done. read more

Absolutely the worst spa in Portland. This "cafe" has no indoor seating, and just hands you boiling water in a to go cup with a tea bag. Further, the spa has no waiting or reception area. They got my massage and my mother's massage timing wrong, and cut 15 mins from both of our massages and made us pay for the full service, despite it being their fault in the first place. There is no one there to greet you or tell you where to go for your massage. Just the worst organized experience I've ever had, and incredibly stress inducing. The massage itself was good but so not worth the ridiculous mismanagement and customer service. You'll find better elsewhere. read more

I called KIVA because it was my birthday and, Mercury being in retrograde, everything was going to heck in a handbasket so I decided to have a massage. I tried other places but no one could accommodate me- except KIVA! They were extremely helpful, sympathetic to my "planetary problem", and got me in just in the nick of time! Upon arrival, Kiva herself came to wish me a Happy Birthday and even sent back a delicious treat to my treatment room! Treat yourself. Go to KIVA and get whatever your body is asking you to get, whether that be a spa treatment, coffee, acai bowl, grain bowl, soup, salad, sandwich, or smoothie. They have everything good for you! Plus a cute storefront that has plenty of seating options and is filled with locally sourced candles and other goodies to peruse. If you like acai, come hungry because the portions are huge. There are several options for the base and you can choose from a variety of yummy toppings. I ordered the acai bowl with a strawberry/banana base topped with granola, fresh fruit, dried fruit, pumpkin seeds, and lots of peanut butter. It was the best acai bowl I have ever tried! I got hot cocoa and later a hot tea with my check in offer. The hot cocoa was very light. The cafe side was fine, nothing special. The smoothies are good and they let you smell the teas if desired. They also used the glass I brought which was appreciated. The spa side was also okay. Personally I had issues with the owner and she even restricted me from getting massages with certain people based on my tipping habits. The massages are fine, but I would never get or recommend getting the annual monthly massages for a friend, many issues can arise if not used and explained to the recipient. There is so much room for improvement and some constructive criticism might help. My order was eat in not takeout. As tea seems to be a focus here..I ordered tea. Very disappointed when my tea came in a mug. Loose tea put in a little baggy floating in mug of hot water. I expected a nice tea service, not formal, but nice. Served in a tea pot, cup and saucer, sugar, milk, lemon slices on the side, and a spoon. I got a mug of hot water with a baggy of tea floating in it. They sell teapots here, but your tea isn't coming in one. We orded 3 items: 2 breakfast bowls, and a panini with the works. The breakfast bowls tasted fine, although skimpy for the price. The rice in the bottom of the bowl seemed to be basmati but it was all broken grains. Not nice long grains but rice scraps. I've seen this type of rice in the store and it's less expensive but I wouldn't want to serve it in a restaurant, even a casual one like this. The panini was just that...a grilled sandwich. That is what we ordered but that's all we got. No garnish, no pickle, no chips...nothing. Just a sandwich on a plate. It tasted fine, but for the price I expected more than a sandwich on plate. Lastly was the service. I ordered at the counter and tipped 20%. The server brought the food to our table and informed us that the silverware was over here. Over here means 3 feet away from you so you'll have to get up and get it but it's over here right next to me, so you'll have to get up and walk 3 feet to get it yourself. Why she couldn't bring silverware is beyond me...and oh yeah....you have to bus your own table and ask for a refill of hot water for your mug as no one is going to check on you. Sorry I gave a T.I.P. as I thought tip stood for To Insure Proper service. I hope the owners take this review as a compliment, not a complaint. A compliment in the fact that I care enough to take the time to point out your shortcomings so that you can grow and be prosperous and successful. read more

I booked a massage here and woke up with the flu the day of... called to cancel and they said I would have to give up my gift card aka 100 dollars and my boyfriends 200 dollars total! No one told me about any cancelation fee and I never received an email. She claimed that all of the information was in the email... She then continued to explain how she was booked back to back for weeks. So why do you need to take 200 dollars from a 20 year old with no money? Sorry I didn't want to puke everywhere while getting a massage. Probably would've charged me for the cleanup. This was a gift and it's so unfortunate that it has to be waisted when we could've simply rescheduled. Safe to say I will not be coming here again. I've had a lot of facials in my life and this was the best facial I've ever had. Kiva's extractions were super gentle, the products she used were amazing, the space is amazing. I originally visited Kiva's spa portion because my mom had received a gift certificate and brought me along (best bday present ever that was not given to me). We had a terrific time and loved our massages and foot soaks! I unfortunately realized I had lost my earring during my massage and left a note asking them to let me know if they found it (even though it was a long shot). Someone texted me the next day and I have since been reunited with my earring! On my first visit, I tried their special omelette even though it was a bit pricey. It was absolutely delicious! When I went to pick up my earring I got another omelette (couldn't resist) and tried their green juice. The juice was phenomenal! I much prefer their green juice to anything I have tried at the numerous popular juicing chains around town. Definitely worth it. I also got an acai bowl to go and was not disappointed. I am not a huge banana fan and they were happy to sub a different fruit in the base instead of the banana. The bowl was huge and delicious. On both of my visits everyone was super friendly! I will definitely be back to work on my computer and have breakfast or lunch again in the future, the only thing that kept me from staying longer was the fact that it is rather cold in the shop (I am not one of those people that is always cold, so perhaps this is because of snowpocalypse 4.0? either way, I'm planning on bundling up next time just in case). I am from the area, so I am surprised I haven't added this cute spot to my coffee shop rotation sooner, but it is probably for the best as visiting this one too frequently could probably break the bank. read more

Ugh. DO NOT BELIEVE THE REVIEWS THAT SAY THIS PLACE IS "UNPRETENTIOUS" Its like the most pretentious place I've EVER been. If I could give ZERO stars I would. Lets just say that after being condescended to by the staff when we first walked in the door, being made to feel like I had no business being there with children, and charged $16 for 1 cookie, 1 lemon water, and 1 bottle of kombucha (how the fuck is that even possible????) I wont EVER be coming back to this place. Because the staff was so rude and made us feel unwelcome with kids (well behaved ones I might add) in tow, I opted to sit outside, rather than suffer their snarly glares, if my daughter or niece were to God forbid giggle or something. Outside, we encountered more rudeness from patrons at the next table whose comments were "cant you sit somewhere else with your kids? Like maybe your car or maybe you could just go home"? KIVA was not an experience we ever care to experience again. I've made a point to warn all my Mom's groups and other friends with kiddos to avoid this place too. I really, really wanted to like this place as did my friend who lives a few blocks away. Pros: They do have a good tea menu. The person who served us was friendly and said all of the food was really good. The cheese plate we ordered to accompany our tea choices was quite tasty. The selection of spa items is interesting. Cons: The decor and atmosphere are sterile and cold. The cute red chairs are seriously uncomfortable. We had to literally knock on the kitchen door in order to pay our bill. The in store spa menu seems very overpriced for what they are offering and does not match their online menu. (a pet peeve of mine, I like websites to be up to date.) Great cafe that takes you out of the city. This cafe is located in an industrial area providing a homey feeling! They serve both tea and coffee, as well as acai bowls and rice bowls. There's something for everyone and lots of seating area so feel free to bring a friend or two :) read more

For those of you ladies that are planning a pedi day, only to discover a few of you in the group recently got pedis and now you don't know what to do, Kiva Tea Bar and Spa is for you! Schedule a group appointment for a foot bath and enjoy the girl time! Come in before for coffee, enjoy the foot bath and complimentary tea, and then take your tea pot out into the restaurant after and stay for lunch. It makes for a fun and relaxing day with the ladies. The staff is accommodating and friendly. It's a splurge, but well worth it, when you need a change of pace from the pedi/mani or happy hour outing with the girls! On a side note- there's no area on the credit card receipt to write in a tip. They're pretty good about reminding you of those, so don't be offended when they do. read more
