If you only try one food item in this town it's this. It's a crunchy fried bread type snack with churro cinnamon and sugar sprinkled on. When you get to the shop, there is either going to be a nebulous blob of a line or there will be two lines. Get in the left line to order. Once you've paid, you will get in the right line to pick up. In that line you'll get to watch as the lady sprinkles the bread with sugary goodness. Sis and I split one and it was more than enough to sate our appetites. If you've had a beignet, you know what this pretty much tastes like, but like a beignet, it's nice to get this snack hot and fresh. Stopping by Skagway during our Alaska cruise, we couldn't help but notice the crowd outside Klondike Doughboy so we walked by to see what it was all about. Inside a small "gift shop" of treats and snacks sits the doughboy kitchen, large flat-ish breads deep fried and covered in cinnamon sugar. For under $7.50, you can't go wrong! This is basically an Alaskan churro, and one easily fed three of us. The dough is crispy on the outside with different "pockets" of either light airiness or chewy doughiness spread throughout the "doughboy". Tasted like a funnel cake without the powdered sugar but replaced with regular sugar with cinnamon. Walked around town and saw this place with people outside eating shaved ice. Great idea as the day was a lot warmer than i expected. Walked in and was happy to see locally made soaps as i am a sucker for handmade soaps. The shop sells all sorts of edible goods, souvenirs, shaved ice and what they call a doughboy. If you are familiar with a buñuelo it's the same, but except in the shape of a square. For all you lactose intolerant or vegans i am happy to say it is lactose intolerant and vegan friendly. This really can fill you up. We shared with 4 people and was still a lot. It really stays warm also and being a chilly day this can really warm you up. They also had this locally made root bear. You get a significant size portion that is intended to be shared (or if you don't want to share that's fine too lol). It's a fluffy fried dough covered in cinnamon and sugar.
