I guess it has its devotees that understand what it is. I didn't. I went there for lunch wanting just a cheeseburger and fries. The have no fries (hashbrowns yes), The cheeseburger was marginal; small, overcooked, no garden and a bun that looked like it had been through a wringer, flatter than a pancake. The only seating is at the counter, and if you are over 5-11 it is impossible to get your legs situated in front of you. The stools are very close together making it impossible to not bump the person (stranger) next to you. It is also very noisy because of the close proximity. The owner(i think)/counter person buzzes around so fast it is A.) hard to ask her for anything and B.) sort of unsettling just watching her.. Anyway, the folks that were eating breakfast seemed to be regulars and perfectly satisfied, I guess it is just not my cup of tea. read more

What an adorable little breakfast place. First off, in case you can't tell from the pictures, it's an old train dining car that's been converted into a stand alone breakfast restaurant. It's cute and cozy, and stepping heavy on the scale isn't gonna help you get around in here, if you know what I mean. As for the food, It's just a step up in quality from the average greasy spoon. Nothing too fantastic, and they're not bringing in any culinary artists to impress you. If you're not satisfied with eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, pancakes, biscuts & gravy, and that sort of thing, then hopefully you'll think the train car asthetic is cute, because that's kind of what they got here. read more

We came here for an after wedding brunch and surprisingly they accommodated our party of 8 with not that much wait time. It was crammed and on the hot side but what do you expect in an old 1900's rail car right?? The food was your typical diner style fare but it wasn't super greasy or hard on the tum tum lol. And the price was right too, especially for the quality of food you get. The hash browns are in fact delicious and I suggest adding the brown gravy and onions, it made them even more magical. Now this is the kind of breakfast diner I've been looking for since moving to Spokane! Just a place to get a delicious no-frills breakfast. Their food is absolutely delicious. I had the corned beef hash. It was some of the best I've had. My wife got the hot cakes. They were the most perfect little hot cakes. Tender, sweet and fluffy. Good enough on their own that you could eat them without syrup. The only issue here would be the wait for both food and seating when it's busy, but it's completely understandable. There is very limited seating and, when we went, there was only one cook. Despite the limited staff, they are very friendly and take good care of you. My biggest issue is that i don't really fit all that well at the bar, but I'm about 6'6" so I don't think most others would have that issue. Food is relatively good, wait time is good. The atmosphere is lively and warm for the occasions of 2 people to 4 (considerations of table sizes). Staff carry positive attitudes and good small traditions. For personal preference, I felt it being a bit to tight to sit relaxed for both arms and legs being about 6'. Cool little diner, excellent example for what it is. Don't expect fine dining with tables. Counter Service only. Ingredients are straight from the 60s. Portions fill the standard diner platter, arrive hot, and are served with a smile. But what made it for me was the expert dance of efficiency that Vickie, owner and chief waitress, performed. It was restaurant entertainment at its best. Directive without being overbearing, quick without being rushed, true courtesy without any underlying impatience. Assistants were treated politely, responded politely, and did amazing background work. Congratulations for truly superior service in a very challenging environment. On my way to work today looking to get a to go order from Knights Dinner. I was really craving the corned beef hash from there. When I walked in I could see they were busy but not slammed. When I told the old lady with white hair I wanted to make an order to go she told me they were to busy for that. WHAT?? First of all you never say that to any potential customer. I don't care if your in retail or food service. I can think of multiple different ways to let someone know we're busy and it may take longer then usual. I can not say I am a regular at Knights Dinner but I know if I ever decide to go back I would walk right back out if she was working. read more

Walking into Knight's, I feel like it's a mix between a truck stop restaurant, and a nice train car diner like Frank's. There were 2 gals behind the counter both multitasking, and balancing the cooking, cleaning, and all the stuff 4 people or more should be doing. So our meal came quick, sloppy and tasty. My roommate ordered the mega breakfast if I remember correctly, and I got the mini. Each had dollar pancakes, bacon or sausage, eggs, and hash browns. Everything is cooked on one big flat top, and its all kind of thrown together, the hash browns sit there pretty much the whole time we were sitting there so they were nice and crisp, the bacon is pressed and the eggs are overcooked. It's pretty much just greasy, speedy, breakfast at its finest, in a kind of darker, smaller, more vintage feeling dining car. We may go back, but only in desperate times when I feel like brutalizing my digestive tract. read more

This is the best breakfast in Spokane. The best greasy spoon style breakfast I've ever had anywhere. The best hash browns I've ever had without a doubt, and the best bacon I've ever had. That's a lot of bests I know, but it's true IMO. :). The hash browns have this awesome crust on them. They have great gravy that I usually get on the side for the hash browns. I've talked with the owner and she says it's a special cut of bacon she orders up special from the butcher. The train setting is cool, but can make it hard to get a seat. Also it's a little tight. The more you eat there the less chance you'll be able to keep eating there cause you won't be able to fit in the seats anymore :). Seems like Franks is more popular. Franks is good, but not even close to Knights. Franks has better seating and that's the only victory they have in the train car breakfast wars. read more

This place is wonderful!! The food is all cooked right in front of you by the owner and she is an absolutely amazing person. You feel welcomed as soon as you walk in the door and she continues to make you feel that way!! The experience of sitting and enjoying your food in an old train car is super cool. The best I can say about the cube steak lunch I had today was that the ranch dressing was terrific and the greens in the salad were fresh and crisp. On the other end of the spectrum, the steak was extremely small ... about the size of a woman's palm (not the whole hand), tough as shoe leather, and flavorless. I was so excited to finally try Knight's. Wow, was I disappointed! I paid $10 for a plate of hasbrowns, 2 eggs, a link of German sausage and 2 pieces of toast. The hasbrowns were burnt, the toast was too. She offered mustard for the sausage - one would think this was a standard condiment. When I looked at the bill she had charged me $0.85 for using one squirt! SERIOUSLY???? I will never go back and recommend you stay away. read more

I've been a customer of Knights Diner since diaper-hood, and have never been disappointed with a visit there. The original owner lived across the street from my childhood home at 119 E. Empire Spokane, Washington. My first job after school at St Xavier Catholic School, was mowing his lawn. He taught me attention to detail. Back then the diner was on Division Street, near the bottom of Division Hill, and our whole family would squeeze in for lunches as often as we could. (a rather large family) The entire staff was like a family to us as well, and that tradition still pervades my visits there today. You could be from another galaxy, and they will make you feel like one of their kin. I look forward to visiting again, whenever I can get back home from Hillsboro, Oregon, where I now live. We decided to give Knights a try on a Saturday morning. It was fairly busy but there was seating for us. I got a pork chop and eggs. The chop was tasty and the food was cooked well. It didn't rock my world, but it was good enough. The train car makes this a fun place to grab a bite once in a while. read more
