Stool seating area right in front of the kitchen

I had such a great experience from start to finish. I was seated right in front of the kitchen, and my server immediately asked if it was my first time dining there. When I said yes, she warmly responded, "You're going to love it here," as she handed me menus and a glass of water. She not only suggested items from the menu but also recommended a freshly baked carrot cake that wasn't even listed. The food was incredible--fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented, as you can see in the pictures. Even though it was close to closing time and the restaurant was quite full, you could tell it's a favorite among regulars. The kitchen staff was greeted by name, and they clearly know their customers well. After finishing our main course, we asked for a box, and our server returned to check if we were too full. When we confirmed, she kindly mentioned that she hadn't added the cake to our bill because she knew the portions were quite large. Very clean establishment! Overall, it was an outstanding experience, and I can't wait to return to try the cake!

    Biscuits and gravy special

Like many of the others reviewing recently I found that the service was outstanding and the food was pretty average. I had the biscuits and gravy special which included a choice of bacon or sausage and 2 eggs. I also opted for some hashbrows which other reviews had said are good. I'm pretty certain the biscuits came from a can and the gravy over them was just average. The eggs were cooked as ordered and I chose the sausage, which were excellent. The hashbrowns were good but not any different than any other greasy spoon, although they use brown gravy, which was a nice twist. Our waitress was very good and the rest of the wait staff do a nice job of catching any table that needs refills. Super friendly all the way around. I know they're just getting kicked off after recently reopening. So another try will definitely be in the works.

My husband grew up in Spokane and has great memories of Knights Diner. We had to visit while we were in town from Michigan. Fun atmosphere, friendly service and excellent food! You gotta go!!!

Was out running errands and decided to stop in here for lunch. I've always seen it while passing by and have been wanting to try it for a while. It was a pretty busy time, just about every table was full and would be replaced by a new party every time one left. Even so, the staff was quick and attentive. My waitress recommended the turkey club and it was VERY good. The interior of this old train car is stunning. Everything is clean and bright and I love the open kitchen. I definitely need to come back to try the pancakes because they smelled amazing!

This is probably a 3 star review but I'm a sucker for great service and eating in a train car, so they're getting 4 stars from me. I think it's under new ownership and they've done excellent with any renovations or decor changes- I haven't been into Knight's since I was really young. It's a SUPER neat (and clean) diner! The servers are all so fabulous and so sweet- it really doesn't get much better, especially in the 'covid/lack of employees' world we're all living in... every employee we encountered was genuinely nice, fast, efficient, and good at their jobs. Coffee was delicious. Menu has your brunch classics- I ordered the Monte Cristo, which was more of a ham/turkey melt with some powdered sugar on top; I was hoping for better Jam too (2 small packets on the side). It was not a terrible sandwich but it wasn't very Monte Cristo- y and I just know they can do better... I couldn't believe how much cheese was on there (too much), and I enjoy cheese! The fries were superb and giving me fry sauce (& tarter) without me asking is A+++, TY TY Also at the table- biscuits in (or is it 'and'?! Lol) gravy, which were just ok... overloaded with butter. I'm just not what they are trying to compensate for with so much extra grease in the meals- maybe the quality of food isn't the best right now or something... again- wasn't terrible food, just wasn't great. For now, for me, this is a greasy spoon but one I will be back to eventually- no doubt! And I will recommend to others because there's something very special about this place...

However, Luna does offer a lot of things for this price. You have a pleasant neighborhood restaurant vibe, with friendly attentive service and excellent, healthy food sourced from good places. As with anything in Spokane, you will see folks in very casual attire, but this is also a place where you can dress up. When we went, there were several tables of women friends (all ages), many family groups (without young kids or with well-behaved kids), and older couples. I was in the mood for salmon and they did a great version. It should be though for just under $50. It was served with black rice (good) and roasted carrots (good) and a carrot puree (really good but not enough on the plate). My dining companion got the scallops, and they were even more expensive than the salmon. $48 for TWO scallops. Ok, they are large, and well-cooked, and came with a lovely vegetable mix and couscous, but that's a lot of $ for Spokane. We are from CA and that's even a shocker for us. Dessert: they had recently added a banana pudding, which was good. It replaced a chocolate dessert--and that was a bad move because there is no intense chocolate on the menu. We also tried the coconut cake with lemon curd. There was not enough curd; it was barely a tang. The cake itself was a little dry. It is served with house-made ice cream, which balances the dryness but the cake should be good on its own. Apparently, this is their most popular dessert. I am a chocolate-first person. I like coconut. I like good vanilla. I really like lemon curd and a sweet-sour pairing. For me, this item felll short.

We told the server it tasted burnt & old so she offered to make a fresh pot. It was just as bad, when she asked we said it was still really yucky and she said that a lot of people don't care for it. I ordered the tamale waffle. The beef was great, eggs were a bit overcooked but no biggie, the waffle was really hard and dry. It needs some sort of crema sauce or something. It wasn't horrible by any stretch but it wasn't great either. My mom got the veggie breakfast burrito and she liked the veggies though it was bland, felt like it could have had more sour cream & cheese. It was massive and came with a side. The added 16% service fee is some real BS. It says on the receipt that it's split between the server & the kitchen staff. Call me old fashioned but I thought it was on the restaurant to pay their staff a living wage. At $18 a breakfast plate & $4 for drip coffee you should be able to pay your staff. And then we're supposed to tip on top of that? Nope.

I had the sampler which is right up my alley, getting to try a bite of everything. Enjoyed 4/5 of the flavors! Really cute interior, convenient location to downtown activity. Time from entering the restaurant to food on the table was an hour, seems a little crazy for a waffle + topping situation. I think I'd almost prefer this as order at the counter and stream line the service time given waffles are casual. Inside was really loud even though it wasn't packed. My latte listed on menu for $6 was $7.50 and mimosa listed at $11 was $14... not sure if we missed something there? Was hungry pretty soon after, sampler really isn't enough for a meal. Would I go again? Sure! Overall, a fun treat.

It's time for our annual trip to Spokane for my wife's immersion and if you follow my reviews at…read moreall, you know that my job on vacation is to coordinate the food. We always make it a point to get the beignets from Francaise when we come to Spokane, so on this trip we decided to stop in for dinner. Francaise has a warm inviting "dining room" vibe that gives comfort to its guest. The exposed brick, warm lighting and plants really set the tone for intentional conversation and intimate dinners. While we did come on a night that seemed like they were short staff, our servers were still checking in and very accommodating with how busy it was. We ordered the Pain Maison, Black Truffle French Fries, Risotto à la Forestière, Steak Frites*and Grand Marnier Croissant Bread Pudding. Pain Maison - 7/10 I think the bread was good, I do wish it had been a bit warmer and that there would have been a flavor to the butter. Black Truffle French Fries - 10/10 These were executed so well. The fries on their own carried a lot of flavor, and the truffle took it to another level. We could have easily eaten another basket. Risotto à la Forestière - 8/10 I stole a few bites off of my wife's plate. There were portions of the duck that were a bit dry, but overall it was very tasty. The risotto carried a lot of flavor and the white wine sauce finished everything nicely. Steak Frites - 7/10 I did end up switching my fries to the Robuchon potatoes because they sounded so good and they were. As far as the steak itself, it was cooked to perfection, but I did not enjoy the blue cheese-cognac butter like I thought I would have. There was a charred sweetness to it that I was not expecting (completely on me) and it made me wish I had just ordered the steak itself. Grand Marnier Croissant Bread Pudding - 9/10 The ice cream completely took this dessert to the stars! The Bread pudding in itself had a hard outer layer with a soft and flavorful inner layer, and the combination with the salted caramel ice cream was delicious.  I think that Francaise would be a great place to do Hors D'oeuvres along with drinks and dessert along with friends or for a date- I am curious to try their short rib and think I will make it a point to do so when we come back.
