Have not been here in a long time. Was happy to see that little has changed as I was worried after reading some of the recent reviews. I don't know what the deal is but to all 4 of us the food & service was great. The fish was fresh, not greasy, great taste. Shrimp was fresh & obviously not farm raised. Sides were great - some of the best okra I've had in Arizona. I saw some complaints about the food being bland - um it's fried food and if it was highly seasoned there would be those complaining about that - you can't please everyone. KKL has been around a long time & the are usually busy. There is something to be said for longevity in Phoenix in the restaurant biz - obviously they are doing something right . I don't know what the big thing is about this place it may have been here since the 1940s but the place is only mediocre... i'd put this in the same comparison as Long John Silvers. If you're looking for a mediocre place to eat fish across from a strip club then this would definitely be your place! Spent over $30 on lunch for my husband and I..they ask you what sauces you need when you pick up your food but this was our first time here and just asked for I small ranch each which was not enough so I went up to get another one and the girl at register was very rude and kept saying twenty five cents I said I had no change or cash just my card you can't just give me one ranch..very rudely looking me right in the eyes..twenty five cents I couldn't even finish eating I was so upset. We love Knock Kneed but our experience last night was a total turn off. Their quality has slipped a little but their service has gone completely downhill. I understand the pandemic has changed thing but the order taker last night was completely out of line. He had a very rude attitude and very rude when we asked for tarter sauce and the red sauce. There was a tray of tarter sauce on the counter next to our order and when I went to take a few off the tray he said DON'T take those and threw the ones I took into the garbage and then refused to give me any at all. Closest restaurant to celebrity, seeing Ringo Starr, theatre so we tried it for the first time. We saw the place had been there for something like 50 years so assumed it would be good. Well, I wish we would have driven a little further. I can't say the food was bad, just that it was--well, food. We had fish tacos, clam chowder a fish and shrimp plate and mushroom/zucchini appetizer. Fish tacos were by far the best. But if you are looking for fresh, yummy, flavorful seafood skip this place. There was NO seasoning on or in anything. Bland, bland, bland. No flavor. Not even the salsa on tacos. From the apps to the chowder it kinda all tasted the same. The woman at the register was abrupt to the point of rude even when we tried to laugh and talk with her. I know she does this all day, but you never know when first timers are coming. Um, hello, this place has been open for over 60 years. On that fact alone they receive 5 stars from me. Do they have some magic type of fryers that no one else in the world has? I think so because I honestly couldn't tell my meal was fried at all. I had the fish, shrimp, and chips combo and every item was crispy, light, and as ungreasy as fried food can get. The interior is old and outdated for sure and it's totally in the "hood" but who cares. Darn good fish and chips IMHO. ---PS, they have one of those pump thingies of ranch on their condiment bar so even if you don't like your meal just cover it in good old American ranch dressing. They have THE BEST FISH period. Their fish look more like fish-steaks, very meaty and hearty. The batter is superb and have never experienced it coming off even when I take it to go and gets cold. Their mushrooms are absolutely amazing and are very fresh and juicy on the inside also with the batter that won't fall off. Their zucchini us actually cut horizontally and not in little circles the way it usually is, can't decide if I like that more or less than the way I'm used to eating it. The place looks like a dive: across from a strip joint in a pretty industrial part of town. The decor is straight out of a recycled beach restaurant from the 80's and when I got a peek at the kitchen I wondered if I was going to have to visit the bathroom in a hurry after being done. This place was extremely disappointing. The catfish tastes like chicken fried catfish or something. The breading was overwhelming and the fish had no flavor. We ended up stripping it off to get to the bland fish inside instead of suffering through all the bread. The hushpuppies were bland and so were the fried mushrooms. It all tasted like they threw it in the same batter and grease and didnt season anything. The best part were the fries and even those needed salt. Our family has been patronizing Knock Kneed since it was Lazy Lou's in the 60's. We have approximately 60 years of patronizing this establishment. Today we ordered 9 pieces of fish, chips and zucchini. They were do skimpy with the fries! Not even enough for 2 people. I contacted the Manager/Ruth and she was very rude, unprofessional and defiant. Instead of just saying next time we're in she would compensate us, she proceeded to yell at me and claim there was enough fries or 3 - 4 people. In actuality there wasn't even enough fries for 2 people. It is a shame that the owner's, the good Sullivan family has a Manager like this. We showed up on a Friday and I was very excited to try the "best fish tacos in Phoenix" but turns out they don't fish tacos on Friday's so I went for the fish and chips. I have to say I was pretty happy with the outcome as the fish and chips were pretty tasty. The breading is on the heavier side but is not greasy whatsoever and it holds to the fish really well. The portion was generous as one piece and fries was enough to fill me up, and the fried shrimp that you can add to your order of fish and chips looks awesome as well. I'm 67 years old and have eaten here since I was a toddler. My parents came here for years before they started bringing me. I absolutely love their fried fish, fried shrimp (huge shrimp), their french fries, their rice and their hush puppies. Love their cocktail sauce! My whole family of six and our extended family of husbands, wives, children etc. all eat at this place. My absolute favorite fish place to go to. God damn, this place is good! I had the 2 fish and 2 shrimp combo with fries. I assumed it would be tiny pieces of shrimp like you see at Long John Silver's. Boy, was I wrong! They were mighty big. I almost regretted my order as it was just so much food! But I powered through and loved every single bite. I really enjoyed the breading. It wasn't too thick and didn't overpower the taste of the shrimp. The fish was nice and crispy on the outside while remaining perfectly cooked on the inside (not overcooked and dry like you sometimes encounter at much crummier joints). The fries were nice and piping hot. Nothing special, but a perfect compliment to the fish and shrimp. An array of fine sauces are available for your dipping pleasure. Overall, just a great meal that fills you up and doesn't break the bank. The decor is a bit dated, no doubt. It's your usual mix of cliche nautical paintings and furnishings. Definitely a hole-in-the-wall vibe. Don't let that discourage you, though. It's a glorious little dive (ocean joke!) that is full of charm. Side note, Knock Kneed is super close to Sky Harbor International Airport, so if you are sending friends or family away for a while, stop here first and you will send them on their way full and happy! I've been passing this place for years and finally stopped in today. I don't give too many 5 Star reviews, but wow what a great place! The place is very roomy with lots of seating, has a nice outdoor patio with smoking and non-smoking sides and a large parking lot. Order at the counter window and be prepared for some golden battered goodness when they call your number. Get your condiments ready, take your ticket to the window once the magic number is called, and BAM! Flaky, moist, battered goodness is now yours to claim! Everything was made at the time of order, not heat lamp fish sitting around getting stale. They boast "The Best Fish Tacos in Town" well I've heard one before and me being a sucker for a fish taco ;-) I took them up on the offer along with a 1pc Fish & Chips. The verdict? The fish and zucchini are delicious. I've been coming to this spot since I was a kid and never had they charged for sauces or ranch, which was one of the best parts of coming to this spot. I am here to share my mothers experience at your establishment today. My mother is a lady of over 60 years old, she suffers from frequent nausea, and can sometimes get confused explaining things. During her visit today she went in seeking something simple- shrimp cocktail. Upon ordering and getting her order, the food seemed a bit old, soggy tomatoes and limp cucumbers, very off putting to her. Now either old product or bad produce seemed to be the issue, and it was noticeable when she got her food. After waiting for her server to return she informed her that she didn't want the food, the server stated "sorry no refunds or credits, not based on you not liking it.". Another employee came to assist and explained the only option for my mother to do was send the food back and order something of equal value on the menu ($12). She ended up ordering another item to go and left. More workers seemed to be involved, but my issue with this place was the lack of empathy and respect. The server seemed standoffish, stating "Well I did not make it", and " It's not my fault". Personally as someone who has worked in Food & Hospitality I would never treat a guest as such & the sad thing is, my mom probably is not the first person this has happened to. I understand these hard times and conditions but I hope they learn from this experience and grow from it. Maybe a team huddle, or customer service retraining. read more

Terrible service and dirty. If I could would give it a 0 rating but had to give 1 to rate it. We ordered 4 plates and received one wrong plate. When I approached the female manager and told her sorry they gave us wrong order she had an attitude and said thats what we order and didn't want to replace it with the correct order. She was very disrespectful rude. After this bad experience, I went to use restroom and it was dirty and there was a roach crawling on the wall, totally grossed out! Definitely reconsider eating here. Jumbo shrimp are always my go to. The now have fish taco's. Unfortunantly, you can't order just ONE fish taco to try it out. You have to order the freaking combo! That is pretty dumb IMO, what if I don't like it? What if I start to resent the place because I by passed my always delicious jumbo shrimp? So, I skipped the fish taco and ordered my usual. I like to get the ranch and louisana hot sauce and mix them together. Dipping heaven. They offer coctail sauce and tarter sauce as well. There is so many choices on what plate you can get, fish and jumbo shrimp combinations. Or just fish or just jumbo shrimp. The fried zuchinni is also good. For the smallest combo it's about 8 bucks, drink is seperate. So it's not to bad in the price. read more

Good old owners.... I used to eat at lazy lou's Fish and Chips. Then out of no where they sold the name then again the food changes. they then started Knock Kneeds Lobster. It was just like the good old days. I drive all the way from the west to get some of the dealious fish and chips. We've been eating here now for about 10-15 years.
