Tried this place out for brunch before quarantine with some cousins in Dallas. It's a very hipster place, with great layout and great service! It was a bit chilly when we went, but it would be a beautiful place on warm days. Very open and enjoyable atmosphere... however, my husband and I didn't think anything on the menu stood out to us. I got the biscuits and gravy and my husband got a dish with lox and although it wasn't terrible, but it wasn't that great either. It has much healthier options than most places, but for us personally, it wasn't what we look for in brunch. The ambience was awesome though! read more

We had a much better experience at the previous restaurant at this location. Knox Bistro is very average. The service was abysmal, the food OK and the atmosphere was just OK as well. The restaurant was loud and made it difficult for the few of us at our table to talk. There was a very annoying white paper top over the cloth table covering. Every time a diner would lift his/her arm, it would catch on the edge of the paper. We finally rolled it up and put it aside. I had to ask to have a water refill which should not happen at an upscale eatery. My martinis were somewhat bland and came in two different kinds of glasses. I'll start by saying I am all for spending good money to get good food/experience a new restaurant. Went here for the first time this past weekend and was wildly unimpressed. I get it that it's a prime location and you are next door to very reputable restaurants and shops (Taverna, Toulouse, Lulu, Sid Mashburn, Crate & Barrel, etc, etc) but that does not mean that you should automatically price point your food to "the standard". Imagine paying $34 for a piece of salmon that is farm-raised and 6 oz. This is just one example of many that I could give. We started the night with a waitress that was kind/helpful but ended up leaving halfway through our dinner due to some emergency. Was hard to believe considering we witnessed that same waitress go in and out of the restaurant with a guy several times at the back door right next to where we were sitting (we are spending $300 on dinner, this isn't the wait staff at On The Border). Regardless, we were taken care of by the next waitress very well and she was attentive to our table - she gets 5 stars and could tell she has been in professional settings before. And no, the minestrone soup is not worth $11 nor is it ever worth it to add a side of chicken to a salad for $9. This restaurant has always been good. It has a good wine list, decent cocktails (not amazing cocktails, but it is dallas) and somewhat innovative food. There's a new chef in town. Bruno D has joined the kitchen from Buillion and before that the Mansion. I liked his cooking before, but I love it now. In this new setting his bistro style cooking really shines. My wife and I noticed the change BEFORE we knew the reason. One evening, I saw chef Bruno coming out of the kitchen and I asked the waiter if it was he. It was. Now I know why the level of cooking has gone up. Check out the whole fish, the lamb chops, and any salad. For wine, the GSM is the safest bet. Also the Mercury. read more

Up on Knox is the new Knox Bistro. French-themed, different menu as of 5/1, rebranded, not vegetarian friendly. We got your gazpacho which was ok, the heart of palm salad which was just greens and dill (not filling at all), and the gnocchi which actually had egg in it. At the end of the meal we were so hungry that we got fries which were not filling as well. Super frustrating that even rebranded restaurants cannot cater to plant-based lifestyles in 2022. Came here for a special occasion dinner. My first impression was that I was pretty underdressed. The restaurant feels a bit casual actually, yet almost all the women there were wearing dresses and some men were even wearing tuxedos. The table was beautiful and chic. We got our menus - I knew this place was high end but I was still not expecting to see items on the menu that are nearly $200. We settled for an appetizer, two entrees, and a glass of wine. The meatball sugo was our starter and it was delicious and piping hot. I have been wanting to try paella for a while, and though it's not the same, the arroz negro sounded similar and I was more than happy with my choice. My boyfriend's burger and fries was a generous portion and the bacon-onion compote is so good. I chose a glass of Ott by Ott rose to drink. I will include more details about the food and drink in my photo captions. The service is great, our waiter was very polite, knowledgeable and accommodating. I enjoyed our dinner and we may come back for just drinks and an app, maybe even brunch, but this place is most definitely a special occasion treat. This place has been open barely three weeks so trying not to be so harsh. Here we go....upon arrival, no one greeted us at the bar as we sat there watching staff and management scramble to get people in place to run a restaurant. Finally, someone offered us a drink. Kitchen didn't open up for thirty plus minutes. Bartender was not skillfully trained on the menu as he struggled to answer my questions. Had the scallops carpaccio which was amazing. The Grilled Octopus was good but not great. The Steak Tartare had great flavor. I will take my friends word as I do not eat anything but seafood. They have some pretty pricey cavier on the menu...may try next time. Met some familiar people in the service industry which was nice. I would come back after they workout the kinks. read more

My husband and I enjoyed a lovely lunch with exceptional service! To start we shared the Gravlax & Trout Board and the Cauliflower Soup. The Board was filled with lots of selections of tasty small bites and the soup was a delicate texture with a wonderful flavor. For lunch, we had the Avocado Toast and the Prince Edward Island Mussels with the Mariniére Sauce. Don't leave without trying the Espresso Martinez!!! Licor 43 is one of my favorites. This cocktail was a perfect blend of Socorro Anejo Tequila, Five Farms Irish Cream, Borghetti Espresso Liquor, Licor 43, and Espresso. YUM!!! We loved the atmosphere, lovely furnishings, with lots of natural light and especially the service! We'll be back again the next time we're in Dallas! read more

Man, I was so glad to have someone suggest we go here. It seems like a hidden secret club. This place was packed and gorgeous. To the staff and customers, it was a local hot spot that was for the "in the know" crowd. We had cocktails, smoked fish dip, pretty solid. Would not recommend. We walked in with the intention of getting coffee to go but found the atmosphere very nice so we decided to dine at the bar. When we couldn't decide what to get, my husband asked a bartender what was recommended and he had nothing to recommend. He asked if we wanted lunch or breakfast and then and gave us a quizzical look. So my husband began saying the first item we were talking about and then he said oh, that's a good choice. So he ordered that. I, on the other hand had asked between my two choices and recommended the smaller portion. I ordered to croque madame and my husband ordered the biscuits and eggs with bacon. While waiting for our food I noticed the bartenders seemed a bit off. They were tense, looking at the end of the bar who sat another what seemed to be customer who ordered steak and eggs. But he kept calling one waitress- maybe the owner? Not sure but his meal looked very bland and plain and all the sudden I had a feeling about the food at this place. Regardless whoever he was, this hindered us from getting served. My husband finally decided to drink his water after I had chugged mine from the heat: he noticed his glass had a crack and after seeing that, I more scrutinized mine, finding lipstick stains in my glass- I never wear lipstick. None of the bartenders ever checked in on us. If we needed everything, how everything was. We got our meals and I think we were a both bit dismayed. My croque madame was smaller than a size of my fist. The bread and egg was cut into a small circle and stacked on in a modern fashion. Croque madame is a traditional French cuisine and I thought I lacked the authenticity and the portion despite the price we paid for it. It has raw fish which concerned me that it was like warm and very little prociutto. My side salad was not crisp and felt like it sat in dressing for half the morning. My husband did not care for his meal either. We paid $45 and left hungry with terrible service- I had to raise my voice and almost shout to the two bartenders in front of us just to get our checks. read more

They apparently have a new chef, and his menu and creations are out of this world, so don't let the prior Yelp ratings fool you. This place is legit. Absolute favorite was the Maine Lobster Toast with Squid Ink Aioli and Fresno Chilis. Just divine. Grilled avocado was a surprise hit as well. If you're looking to have some drinks and be made to feel extremely uncomfortable by an ignorant bartender, Up on Knox should be next on your list! My friend and I sat at the bar and got chatty with the bartender Mario (the younger one who had a broken finger) since we were there for a few hrs, enjoying mimosas and espresso martinis, which were good btw. However the afternoon was tainted right as we were finishing up to pay. I don't even know why it came up but he told us how he got the "Chinese" virus. At first I laughed, not realizing what he had just said then asked him again, and he said ya that's what it's called. I asked, you do realize I'm Asian and that's offensive? Then he proceeded to rationalize why it should be called that, that that's where it originated in Wuhan. Again, I said are you really going to say that to someone who's a patron here at YOUR restaurant and esp to someone who's Asian? Then he tried to justify his comment and got defensive about how it's the same thing when people got confused with the Corona beer and the Corona virus but he didn't get upset. Yup that's exactly same thing. He attempted a half-assed apology once he realized we weren't joking, which meant nothing since he actually couldn't comprehend how his politically charged words were offensive to someone from Asia or to paying customers. Also not to mention he told us the restaurant was a "Mexican" locker-room bc there are many working there. Again with the racist comments to paying customers! My friend only tipped so the other guys working around him would be compensated. And btw, seriously what's the point of him wearing a mask when he pulls it down every single time he talked to someone? I understand people hold different opinions and political stances, and that's completely fine, but I don't want to go a restaurant and debate some insensitive, conservative bartender when all I'm trying to do is enjoy a Sunday afternoon with a friend. read more

Lunch at Knox Bistrot today was a big disappointment. The rillettes starter had no flavor and the oysters were just ok. Mussels could have been better (1/3 were still closed) and the cheese soufflé was flavorful but nothing at all like a soufflé. A glass of Muscadet was deep yellow instead of pale and crisp (my French husband knows his wines). For a new Michelin starred chef? Try the mussels and real soufflé at Toulouse down the street and you will not be disappointed. They serve crispy baguette on arrival and good soufflés. This place was a surprising discovery on Sunday late morning. My friends and I had reservations at Restoration Hardware for lunch two hours later. We decided to walk around and get a snack and perhaps a Bloody Mary or Mimosa. We just stumbled upon Up on Knox. We are all so grateful that we did! We were seated at a table shortly after we arrived around 1:30 PM. We knew we were going to have lunch later, so didn't wanna overdo it. We ordered a BLT to share which was amazing! We also ordered the Cajun chicken salad and shared it as well. The chicken was very tender and flavorful. The salad was delicious! They had mixed greens that included butter lettuce, which you rarely find at a restaurant and I thoroughly enjoy. It was a yummy salad and I would highly recommend both items. I had a Bloody Mary and so did my girlfriend's husband. It was delicious as well. And my girlfriend had a Mimosa, and it was generous and only six dollars! The highlight of our experience? We had a wonderful server named Charlie. He made our dining experience a 10! I mean the ambience was nice, and the food was great but other than that, what made it so special was Charlie. Great personality, so much fun, and very attentive. I mentioned to him that my Bloody Mary wasn't nearly as strong as my girlfriend's husband was. He grabbed my drink, took it back to the bar brought it back to me and said, hopefully this one will be better! I was halfway joking when I had "complained" about it. I was just being funny. My husband and I, and our 4 year old dined here last night. The service was amazing. We were checked on by the manager twice, and it was super busy! We asked for suggestions and descriptions about the menu and our server was very thorough and patient. We had the grilled octopus, scallop crudo, salmon rillettes (each appetizer size) and a side of grilled corn the cob. They are a bit pricey but when we called ahead to ask what the menu was like, the hostess told us the price ranges accurately. And it really is worth the price when you taste the food and leave happy:) This has to be one of our new favorite spots. The atmosphere feels European but not too stuffy, not too casual.
