Dining view from Koa Brewing Company

We made a special effort to visit Koa brewing because we had previously met their pastry chef Melissa the year prior, taking custom cupcakes to a dinner party. She & her husband JD had since opened their Koa Brewing company, and we visited to have dinner and enjoy an assortment of her baked goods. The pineapple upside down cake is to die for, her coffee cake was delicious and we devoured several chocolate chip cookies. YUM. Thank you so much for making our Maui trip even more enjoyable. We plan to see you each year we return. I included the entrance picture with the blue Scooby van as a landmark because the road had been damaged by the heavy rains in March, and there were road closed signs which can be confusing if you're not from the area. But I suggest you make the effort to visit and enjoy. The restaurant is clean and has a beautiful sunset view. Thank you.

Attentive service, delicious pizza, and beautiful sunset views. Kind of hard to find though needs more signage.

The Legendary Malasadas A true Portuguese-Hawaiian style…read moremalasada is a work of art, and Sugar Beach nails it. Unlike standard donuts, theirs are fried to a perfect golden crisp on the outside while staying unbelievably fluffy, light, and pillowy on the inside. The Passion Fruit (Lilikoi) Magic: Tasting that tart, bright, tropical lilikoi burst against the sugary, warm dough is unforgettable. It cuts right through the richness of the pastry perfectly. Freshness First: Because they open bright and early at 6:00 AM, getting them warm means you are catching them at peak texture--crisp, airy, and meltingly soft. Mouth-Watering Savories & Pies It's rare for a bakery to completely master both ends of the spectrum, but they strike an incredible balance between decadent sweetness and rich, savory comfort: The Quiche: Getting a morning slice with a perfectly flaky, buttery crust and a rich, velvety egg custard is the ultimate savory breakfast comfort. The Key Lime Pie: A masterclass in balance. The sharp, refreshing pucker of the lime curd pairs flawlessly with a thick, buttery graham cracker crust, making it the ultimate mid-day or post-beach treat. The Croissants: True to artisan form--shattered layers on the outside, a rich, tender, airy web of butter on the inside. The Ultimate Beachside Vibe What truly seals the memory is the pure sense of place. It's a quintessential "cute little bakery"--unassuming, warm, and hyper-focused on quality. Being located right across from the beach means your morning walk isn't just an errand; it's an experience. Holding a warm box of malasadas and a fresh coffee while looking out at the ocean is pretty much peak relaxation. Just remember the golden rule of the neighborhood to avoid heartbreak: they take Sundays off, making Monday mornings all the sweeter when those doors swing open at 6:00 AM again! Service was awesome . Staff was very attentive

Definitely would be a place to recommend

They offer several flavors available by the slice, mini pie, or full sized pie, so there's an option for every appetite. ONE OF THE BEST PIES I'VE EVER HAD…read more ** But terrible customer service ** This place would easily be a 5 star if they had more polite people working there. My mom politely asked if they had any sugar-free pies available. The girl at the register stated " you need to ask for those a day in advance". So my mom asked if she could place an order now to pick up one tomorrow. The girl then looked up from the register with an annoyed look on her face and said, verbatim, " does it look like I'm the head baker? I only work the register. You need to leave the store and call us to order". We all looked at each other shocked. That was the most rude response I've heard in a while... like we are supposed to know who specifically ask to order a sugar free pie ... ... just a wild situation for such a fun place with great tasting pies. The good: - blackberry mango was probably my favorite pie - peach cobbler a close second place - loved the mountain berry as well The bad: - the girl working the register - you want a sugar free pie? Make sure to NEVER ask in person. You have to call in. - And they only offer whole pies and not slices for sugar free pies The verdict: - minus 2 stars for the rude girl who yelled at my mom - minus 1 star for only having whole pies and not slices for sugar free pies, even though they only have 3 flavors to choose from... Such a shame to have people like that working at a place that serves such a good product.

I was already doing the math and thinking , "Eh, we might be here awhile." But nah, good timing. People were finishing up, bussing tables, and bam, maybe 20-30 minutes tops. Not bad at all. While we was waiting, they come out with waffle samples for everyone in line. I mean... who does that? That's how you keep people from getting all hangry. Instant good vibes, the whole line outside was just smiling and waiting patiently. Finally get seated and both the hostess and waitress were super nice--real friendly, no rush, no attitude. In the front they had mushroom soup on the specials board, so we figured we go sample um. I had them bring a cup of soup out to start along with my wife's coffee. Gotta be honest--when I dipped my spoon in, I was already judging. Looked kinda thin, not creamy like other mushroom soups I've had. I was thinking, "Ahh here we go." Took one spoonful and immediately had to humble myself. That soup was money. Like, stop-talking-and-just-eat. My wife tried it and confirmed that this soup was "winnahs" . Deep mushroom flavor with the right amount of seasoning. It also came with a little piece of focaccia toast which I would have really enjoyed but had to take my wife's word for it since she ate um all . Should've ordered the bowl. Rookie mistake. For my main, I went with the original eggs Benedict. Portions were a little on the small side, but with the roasted potatoes, I was good. Didn't leave hungry, didn't need to loosen the belt--perfect middle ground. My wife got the strawberry waffles and yeah... those were legit. She's not a syrup person, so she asked for more whipped cream. The waitress comes back with a little mountain of whipped cream in the little silver ramekin. All in all, solid spot. Friendly people, ono food, and little touches that make you feel taken care of. We will be heading to Cafe Kaila again to try some other stuff like the "chicken and waffles", and next time, I'm not playing around with the soup. Bowl, Garans.
