Came today for breakfast. The food and service were great! Only fault was the hashbrowns were a little too crispy you had to pick it up and eat it instead of using a fork.

This was a very quaint easy place to eat at. You order at the counter and they bring your food out to you. It was easy and the food was pretty darn good. I got the portugeuse sausage and eggs with the fried rice. The rice was chefs kiss delicious for the morning Food was good, eggs were cooked to order and I will def. eat here again.

One of all time favorite pancake joints, and I guess Koa Pancake House is all over the island because I've tried a few different locations with the exception of the Hawaii Kai location, as it was an all time first for me. Great service, awesome pancakes & coffee, what more can you ask for? My friend wanted to take me out to breakfast, so I told her that I wanted to go to Koa Pancake House in Hawaii Kai. Upon walking into the restaurant, I noticed that the restaurant set up was similar to the Kaimuki Koa Pancake House location. I ended up getting my usual spinach mushroom cheese omelet, and my side was a stack of buttermilk pancakes. My friend ended up ordering the corned beef hash, eggs, & potatoes. To wash down our meals, we enjoyed several cups of hot coffee. What can I say about the grub? I would say it's just your standard hearty breakfast. Nothing fancy, but sometimes simple is what I like. The service here was fast and friendly. I also liked the fact that you can serve yourself your own coffee. If you like hot coffee like me..........suck 'em up my friends! Lol!

Ready for a simple breakfast after a good hike. We chose Koa Pancake House since it's closer and because they make good Vinha d'alhos (Portuguese style marinated pork). If you haven't tried it yet, then come and visit them. I don't know of any other place that makes it. But...we ended up with French toast, two over easy eggs and crispy bacon. That's because I'm cutting on my white rice intake. Even as simple as this is yummm! It's soak enough without making squishy or soggy. The bacon is cooked crispilicious! To finish it off, we had the nutella crêpes with strawberries. This is good but not something that I'll order again...it's too sweet. It's too sweet. But if you have a sweeter tooth than me, then this is for you ;) It's not on photo but I also got a coffee. Please add another 2 scoops to get that caffeine in ;). It's really mild. The staffs are friendly and quick. There was about 4 of them in the front, which made things move faster. It almost felt like get in and get out kinda dine in thing. Thank you for reading my review. Have a great long weekend!

Great location for breakfast, mostly local customers and home town feel. You order at the counter or by their QR code. The food is then delivered to your table. You clear your table. Friendly atmosphere

This place is the spot that always hits and I am so grateful it is still open! Has been around for quite a while and for a good reason. Whether your hungover, too lazy to cook, or simply just want to grab a breakfast bite cause your hungry, this is the place to go. I always go into a food coma after I eat here and am more than satisfied. The aunties that take your order are incredibly friendly and help you decide when you are having a difficult time since there's just too many good items on the menu. The ambiance is very family style but if you want more of a quieter area to eat your food, get takeout and bring it down to the tables by the marina water side. Or bring it to the beach or the top of the mountain or lookout! Im telling you Koa pancake house will hit anywhere! Good pricing for good big sized portions

Great food and even better people! We stopped for breakfast before heading to Hanauma Bay and it was the best pit stop. Breakfast plates and waffles were very good and staff was more than welcoming. Amazing ambiance - Lovely place to sit and sip coffee over great food.

I ordered the steak and eggs and upgraded my pancakes to the macadamia nut one. The steak was cooked as I ordered, medium, but it had absolutely no flavor and had a burnt flavor on the outside. The pancake was however delicious. Good portions for the price but quality is hit or miss. Coffee was typical diner coffee. Good place to stop for a bite with friendly service.

I am not a breakfast person and Moena Cafe might have just converted me into one!…read more After a sunrise hike nearby we were looking for a good spot where we could find something delicious for the whole family (including our picky eater). After doing some research on Yelp we decided to check out Moena Cafe. The restaurant is pretty small so I would recommend getting here early. We didn't have to wait for a table but probably 30min after we arrived they had a 40-minute wait (lucky, I know). I decided to go with the avocado toast and cold brew, and my husband had an order of pancakes with blueberries. First of all, the cold brew was probably the best cold brew I've ever had! I wouldn't say I am a coffee snob by any means, but I could definitely taste the difference in their coffee. The avocado toast was absolutely delicious and came in pretty huge portions! It was two pieces of toast with two eggs in a bed of arugula and a very generous amount of avocado. It was cooked to perfection and exactly what I needed after our hike. The pancakes are HUGE so I would recommend only ordering one. My husband was about to get two, but the waiter kindly suggested ordering only one, and she was right. Absolutely loved this place and can't wait to come back!

Finally, got seated and a server eventually came by. The pepperoni rolls are delicious as always. We tried the paniolo burger (excellent) and the It's a Gouda burger (good, but I couldn't really taste the aioli or the Gouda). The mac salad on the side is fairly good although I prefer Zippy's because it's more flavorful. Kona's is a bit on the bland side. I got an itty bitty beer to go with my drink and didn't realize that the 5 ounce pour was basically the size of one of their little taster flight beers, but it's $4.25, where the 10 ounce is $6.25. Kind of wish my server had pointed out the 10 ounce is a better value, but they were extremely casual and seemed pretty distracted the whole time, so I don't think they thought to mention it. The 15% off for kama'aina makes the food a better deal. A nice place for a bite to eat and to try some interesting beers and seltzers on tap.

A Sad Decline of What Used to Be a Hawaii Kai Institution…read more It honestly saddens me to write this review because I have been coming to Kona Brewing Company in Hawaii Kai regularly for years. Kona used to be a place where the community gathered--locals would stop in for a drink, grab some food, catch up with friends, and enjoy the atmosphere. It was a thriving neighborhood restaurant and bar that felt like a true part of the Hawaii Kai community. Unfortunately, over the past couple of years, I have watched a noticeable decline in service, food, atmosphere, and management. On my recent visit, I was struck by how empty the bar was. This used to be a place that was bustling with locals and regular customers. Many of the people I used to see there regularly have simply gone elsewhere. The menu is a fraction of what it used to be, with far fewer choices and portions that seem considerably smaller. For an establishment of this size and reputation, the current menu is disappointing and doesn't offer the variety or value I remember. The service has also suffered. Some longtime bartenders seem less interested in customer satisfaction than they once were. I can't say whether that is a reflection of management, staffing issues, or declining morale, but there certainly seems to be a disconnect between the people working there and the customers they're supposed to be serving. When employees don't feel supported or appreciated by management, unfortunately, the customers often feel the effects. And then there's the ambience. Kona used to have an energy--a feeling that you were walking into a neighborhood gathering place. That feeling has largely disappeared. I don't write this review because I want to see Kona fail. Quite the opposite. I remember when Kona Brewing Company was a thriving part of our community, and I would love nothing more than to see it return to that level of service, quality, and community spirit. There are still good people there, and I believe the establishment has tremendous potential. But something needs to change. Management needs to listen to the longtime customers and the employees, take a hard look at what has changed, and find a way to bring back the Kona that Hawaii Kai used to love. It's genuinely sad to watch the decline of what was once such a fine establishment and an important gathering place for our community

You're doing too much…read more We were excited to try this spot, especially knowing the owner competed on Top Chef, but unfortunately almost every dish felt overcomplicated. Sometimes less really is more, and in this case, the fusion and number of competing flavors seemed to overtake the dishes themselves. We ordered the Volcano Eggs, Chicken & Eggs, and Ricotta Pancakes so we could try a little of everything. The chicken itself was good, and so were the pickled onions, but the Chicken & Eggs as a complete dish just didn't work for us. There was so much happening on the plate that the individual components seemed to fight each other rather than come together. The Volcano Eggs had a similar issue; lots of bold flavors, but they didn't blend particularly well. The ricotta pancakes probably had the most potential. The pancakes themselves were delicious and, with real butter and maybe a light jam, could have been amazing. Instead, they were buried under a complicated sauce that overpowered them. I kept thinking: just let the food shine! A couple of other things took away from the experience. Each time the kitchen staff received a tip, there was loud yelling/celebrating from the kitchen. It happened about four times during our brunch and became excessive and disruptive. The suggested gratuity also starts at 19%, which felt a little off-putting given the already higher price point. Our waiter was very nice and provided good service. Just be aware that dining times seem to be fairly strict , once your allotted time is up, you definitely get the feeling that it's time to go. There are some genuinely good components here, and clearly a lot of creativity and thought goes into the menu. For us, though, simplifying the dishes and letting the quality ingredients speak for themselves would make a huge difference.

It's one of those spaces where you hope the next place finally sticks. But the food at Scratch Kitchen? Absolutely delicious. The kind of meal where the pictures alone make your mouth water. If "smell‑a‑vision" or "lick‑your‑screen" technology existed, everyone would understand exactly what I mean. Every dish was full of flavor, beautifully done, and perfect for a Mother's Day treat.
