We've been to Koa Pancake house a few times during this pandemic and even before. The service here is top notch. They are so friendly and wonderful here. Even during this pandemic when we can only do take out they still are so appreciative for your service. They're polite and really express that they are grateful that you came to patron their business. I love that. Some business don't even say anything when you leave after buying their things. Anyways, we always get pretty much the same things when we come here. We're creatures of habits. I get the loco moco with just a regular hamburger patty. I get my daughter the small bites plate that has fried rice and Portuguese sausage. My husband get the koa moco which is the ultimate loco moco. Solid quick stop shop for breakfast! You order at the counter and the food comes out fairly quickly after. I had the breakfast burrito ($5.50) and the blueberry 3 stack of pancakes. This is a restaurant where yo order at the counter and your food is brought to the table on paper plates with plastic utensils. My wife ordered Eggs Benedict with the sauce on the side. I ordered a short stack of banana pancakes. Our food came quickly - too quickly. I assume the food is in chafing dishes, like the free breakfast buffet at a Courtyard Inn. Her food was barely warm, the yolks of the eggs hard. She sent the meal back asking for hot food - and eggs with runny yolks. The waiter simply, and too quickly, replaced the eggs. My wife said she'd pass, and got a refund. My banana pancakes were stodgy. We did speak with the manager and she was very sweet, wanting to "do something." A few minutes later I asked the older Asian male employee for two takeout boxes, and he told me dismissively to go to the end of the line and pay for them. I only took one star off cause the service was terrible. The cashier was rude, unhelpful, misinformative (told us we couldn't have vinha d'alhos without eggs but lunch comes without) and rushed us. FPO and I went to Koa Pancake House in the Hawaii Kai Towne Center for breakfast one Saturday morning. I really, really wish I hadn't procrastinated on my Yelp review after the last time we went. I would have remembered that I returned my breakfast that time because everything was cold, then I could've saved money this time. Alas, I didn't and we did. The line was to the door. One reason, one of their registers was down. The other, the person they had at their lone register had zero customer service appeal. Finished with one customer? Stare at the next person until they're uncomfortable enough to step up and say something. Up selling, what's that? Repeat the order back to make sure you got it right? Pfft, it's overrated. We didn't eat in although there was room by the time (20 minutes later) I eventually got through the line and received my order. There was something wrong with the AC. It was uncomfortable enough that they had a fan blowing on the left side of the dining room. FPO got Blueberry French Toast and a side of Bacon. The bacon was okay but the French Toast was bland. How do you mess up French Toast? I got the High Steaks Omelette with potatoes. Nothing was seasoned at all. The steak was tough and tough to find. I can't say a bad word about this place. The staff was incredibly friendly every time we went, which was many during our trip. The menu was larger than most breakfast places we tried and it was delicious and perfectly cooked every time. Their pancakes are hands down some of the best pancakes I've ever had. Whether strawberry cheesecake or chocolate chip, I had both during our visits and they were exceptional (I have a sweet tooth at breakfast). My husband had eggs benedict. The eggs were poached to perfection. The link sausage has a great flavor and the bacon is cooked so well. Over easy eggs were also cooked perfectly. Koa Pancake House has always been a favorite of mine. I was in town visiting family and knew I had to stop by before leaving. I usually go to the one in Moanalua Shopping center. Since I was heading to a hike in Hawai'i kai and decided to stop at this location since it was raining to kill time and let the rain pass. Went there yesterday (Saturday) morning just a few minutes after 8am...luckily, it does not appear to be that busy at that time (but did as it got closer to 9am). Got the Vinha D'Alhos plate combo ($9.75, but was hesitant before I went into the restaurant as another yelper said it doesn't taste like 'adobo'). Well I knew going in that it's cooked/marinated with vinegar and garlic -not like pork sautéed in oil as that Yelper puts it. The pork came out almost crispy on its edges (not burnt or anywhere near it) and tasted good (and 'almost' tasted like pork adobo) and had it with scrambled eggs and chose my side, the hotcakes...The hotcakes came out nice and hot and was soft and moist..loved it with the syrup. The coffee was priced reasonably at $1.75 (with free refill) but didn't taste like any kona coffee blend, but that's ok. Enjoyable time, quick service with the foods brought about five minutes after we (3) seated ourselves. I enjoyed my meal.. so a good tip is that if you go before 8:30am, I don't forsee a problem finding seating unless you have a big party of more than 4. I believe if this was a 'Sunday', then even at 8 ish, the crowd would be more than on a Saturday. Reasonable prices for breakfast and lunch. You can dine in but you need to fill out contact tracing info. They still bring the food to your table. The tables are spaced and are supposed to be cleaned in between customers. We split a mushroom burger which had choice of green salad, mac salad or roasted home fries. We went with the seasoned home fries which were yummy. The mushroom burger was surprisingly delicious! Patty was juicy and it had grilled onions, lettuce and tomatoes. Recommend this one! Of all the restaurants I have ordered takeout from during the recent pandemic, Koa Pancake House has been the best in terms of ease of ordering, communication, service, and order packaging. Everything was packed so that nothing melted or got soggy. The order was exactly what I ordered, and ready exactly on time. The blueberry pancakes were packed with blueberries, and the bacon was nice and crispy (ain't nobody likes 'bendy' bacon)! Their setup for takeout in the restaurant also was very mindful of social distancing, and everyone I saw had a mask. I will definitely be back to try some of their other tasty looking breakfast offerings! read more

The lady who took the order was super nice and friendly. The food on the other hand, mediocre. I mean it was good, it came out extremely fast just that there was nothing to it. I thought it was so strange that they use paper plates and plastic forks. It probably would of tasted better if it was on an actual plate. My benefit just seeped in the plate leaving it a cardboard flavor. A little too much sauce too. It wasn't horrible, just wasn't fantastic. I don't know about this place. After having some great breakfasts on the Big Island, it's hard to just to go any breakfast place on Oahu. We ordered the following: Vinha D'Alhos plate ($9.25): I asked the girl what Vinha D'Alhos is and she said it's pork marinated in garlic and vinegar. I asked if it's like pork adobo and she said yes....... Ah no..... It did not taste like adobo. It tasted like pork sautéed in oil. It also came with eggs and pancakes. The pancakes were good but I was expecting adobo!!! Ham Steak plate ($9.25): we got this for my son and he liked it. The ham steak was huge!!! it came with eggs and sautéed potatoes. Trio meat with eggs and fried rice ($11): it was all good except for the fried rice. I think they used sticky rice for the fried rice and the taste and texture were not good at all. Sweet bread French Toast ($6): we got this for my daughter and she liked it. If we're in Hawaii Kai, we'll look for another breakfast place. read more

I came here on a whim waiting for Costco to open. It was a Thursday around 9:30am and although the restaurant was full, I managed to find a seat. You order at the counter (much like McDonald's), find a table and place your number on the holder for staff to bring your food. Process is super easy. If you know what you want. Luckily for me, there was no one in line and with multiple menus to look at with a plethora of choices, I was overwhelmed. I didn't feel pressured to order other than my own pressure if there was a wave of customers coming. Most items contain meats which made my decision a little more challenging. But there is something for everyone. I would have loved a cheese omelette but that wasn't an option (I'm pescatarian) and I really wasn't in the mood for a veggie omelet. I ordered the mochi waffle and could only eat half. It's super sweet and delicious with just enough crunch. I would definitely share this with someone. I also ordered a side of scrambled egg which was just that. Lastly was a side of house potatoes. This too you can easily share as I only ate 1/4 of it. The pieces are big, but unfortunately unseasoned and basically just fried potatoes. It's ok if that's what you'd like. Even with ketchup and Tabasco it was still bland. Granted it's Mother's Day but they had about 7 employees in the front working the counter. I understand it's busy with Online orders and if that's the priority I get it, but a common courtesy of just saying we will be right with you or sorry about the wait would go along way. The only thing I got was I will take your order in a little and after you order it will be a 40 mins wait. This was after the 15-20 min wait at the very front of the line. We showed our confirmation on our cell phone! She said she couldn't find it. Shame on the management over there for not preparing for a very busy morning. Poor management and staff! The food is good but what is not good is when the worker comes by us to check the trash, sticks his hands in the trash can to push it down and then goes right back to work and doesn't wash his hands before touching the rice cooker, scooping out rice, then grabs the plate of food and takes it to the customer. Then he runs his hands through his hair and on his face. That is nasty. Someone needs to be retrained on sanitary rules. read more

I ordered online at 7:19am and granted it's Father's Day so I knew it would be some wait but it's now nearly an hour and for an order of just two breakfast plates nothing fancy, I was told to wait outside for my order and none of the staff seemed apologetic at all. The text confirmation shows order ready between 8:30a - 2pm which to me is ridiculous! A while back I was told that it's something their system did so it didn't always mean it'll take that long but I was starting to think maybe it really meant it'd take that long. We come here for convenience since we live in the area. Normally, we receive stellar service from the nice aunties working here but today there were two younger kids working the front. The girl at the register was nice and we informed her we were picking up an online order. Another boy at the front but in and pointed out my order on the side. I let them know I also had a large orange juice with my order. The boy flatly said there wasn't an orange juice with with my order. Weird, I was sure I ordered one but I took his word for it and there was someone waiting in back of us so I didn't want to hold everything up.
