Delicious baked goods, a specialty of the German culture. Last time I stopped in, I picked up a delicious Bear Claw with a cup of coffee. We've visited before as a family for lunch and had a great time. Sandwiches, pastries and drinks are ordered at the counter. Plenty of tables are available inside and on the patio. Many of the signs are bilingual English/German (for example "Knives/Messer"), something you don't see everyday. Free parking in the lot and on the street.

Incredible baked goods! The prices were impressive. If you're passing by you have to stop here and get something. It has a homey feel and lots of seating.

Super cute bakery and lunch place in old town tehachapi. Although not much parking, we were able to get a spot in their 60 minute slots. Even though it was busy, our order line went fast. If ordering a sandwich, they have custom order forms on clip boards out side which makes the line go faster. Most sandwiches are between $10 and $15. The food is tasty and definitely worth the stop!

Visiting area & trying out different eateries during our stay. We attended the Annual Apple Festival, missed out on apple pies and wife was craving something sweet. Stopped in & immediately felt like we were back in Germany (we were stationed there years ago). Loved the decor and the design of the dining area. You order at a counter which is full of temptations- LOL. Friendly Staff assist with your selections, still no apple pie (got to be early for best selections). Wife walked out with a coffee (very good), a blueberry pie, and a slice of German Chocolate Cake. WOW- The German Chocolate Cake was absolutely AMAZING. We shared and I had to walk away as I was starting to get greedy. The Blueberry Pie was also very good (still working on it). Definitely one of the best Bakeries yet !!!

Visiting for Valentine's weekend and cane across this Beautiful German bakery very reasonably priced. Several employees working together and our attendant forgot a couple things but it all worked out she fixed the errors. All our food was fresh-I wasn't a big fan of the tuna sandwich, but the bacon egg cheese sandwich was delicious. Grabbed a couple pastries for later. Definitely worth a try!!

This place is awesome, such a wide variety of bread, sandwiches, and of course sweets. They have homemade fresh pies. The seating was plenty, with friendly staff. Just love how awesome this experience was. I will be back.

We stopped by this bakery on our way to Mojave to have lunch. I ordered a turkey sandwich, chocolate croissant and almond croissant for later. My friends ordered a tuna melt and ham sandwich. Everything came out fast and I have to tell you it is so hard to pick what I want to try when I visit this place. Everything looks delicious. The service is fast and friendly, they answered my questions with a smile. We chose to eat outside today because it was such nice weather. Their outdoor seating is perfect and shaded. I adore this place.

Me when it's Thursday and it's closed. I get so mad. This place needs to be open on Thursdays in summer so I can go during farmers market

Best place in all of Tehachapi. This FREAKIIINGGG bakery is so absolutely peak if I were to die it would be because I ate too many of the lemon bars here. Their pastries are so amazing. And every time it hits an o'clock there's little doll things that sing that peak song in sound of music. You can get your pastries really fast because they're right there in front of you when you walk in and e nice workers will hand it to you. I've rarely ever had problems with the people here. ANNMDDD THERES A PLACE TO EAT UNDER THE STAIRS THAT I CALL THE HARRY POTTER SPOT. ITS MYYYUY SPOT!

Ask the Community - Kohnen's Country Bakery

Do you have German crumb cake? Its's similar to a Beehive coffee cake. We lived in Germany for 4 years and I miss it so much. I can't find anything like it.

I'm not sure if Bienenstich is the same as Bee Hive cake. We used to make it years ago, but it didn't sell well with our mostly American Customers. Because it was a lot of work, we decided to stop making it due to low sales. So sorry.

    Why are you closed?

We are not closed. Our hours are 6am-6pm Sunday, Monday, Tuesday. Closed Wednesday and Thursday. 6am-6pm Friday and Saturday.

Do they serve sandwiches around 4:00?

The serve cold sandwiches after 4, they dont serve hot after 4 like the Reuben.

Has anyone had the peanut butter cookies here, been craving a good peanut butter cookie like the one at Disneyland but don't want to drive to LA, thank you?

I loved their peanut butter cookie. Have not been to Disneyland. What is great about this bakery it is a true bakery and everything we had was amazing,

The restaurant has been serving customers since 1956, and you can feel the history the moment you walk through the door. The warm wooden booths, European décor, German beer signs, and cozy atmosphere make you feel like you've stepped into a family restaurant in Germany. I ordered the Jägerschnitzel, served with rich mushroom gravy, traditional German potato salad, and sweet red cabbage. Every bite was delicious, and it paired perfectly with a cold Paulaner beer. What impressed me most wasn't just the food--it was the story. Our waitress told us that when one of their employees was 17 years old, the original owner personally taught him how to make their famous sausages. Today, at 81 years old, he's still there making sausage five days a week. That's over six decades of preserving the same recipes and traditions. When I asked what his favorite sausage was, she smiled and said, the veal sausage. That alone guarantees what I'm ordering next visit. In a world full of chain restaurants, places like Gazzolo's are becoming rare. Family-owned, authentic, and built on generations of craftsmanship. If you appreciate homemade food, old-world hospitality, and restaurants with real history, put Gazzolo's at the top of your list. I'll definitely be back. Next time... the veal sausage.

The Reuben and potato salad combo was especially hearty and satisfying, with rich, savory flavors that felt very true to a classic deli experience. The Hungarian sausage had a great depth of flavor, savory and well-seasoned without tipping into being overly salty. The cherry strudel was a standout to end the meal, filled generously with cherries and syrup, wrapped in a flaky pastry that balanced sweetness and texture really well. The beer tied everything together nicely, cold and refreshing, and exactly what you'd want with this kind of meal. I still prefer Busy Bees in San Pedro, but this was a nice alternative within the IE area. Price: George's Market falls into a casual, reasonable deli pricing tier. Sandwiches like the Reuben and similar deli items are generally in the mid‑teens range, while sausage plates and hot meals can push closer to around $15-20 depending on what you get. Beer and imported items vary, but overall you can expect to spend about $15-25 per person for a solid, filling meal. Given the quality, portion sizes, and specialty nature of the food, the pricing feels fair. Ambiance: The space is part cozy German market, part deli counter, with a warm, wood-heavy interior that feels inviting and a bit nostalgic. There's both indoor seating and an outdoor area, giving flexibility depending on the weather or how busy it is. Beyond the dining area, the market itself sells a wide range of German groceries and specialty products, which adds to the charm and makes it feel like more of an experience than just a quick meal. Service: Service was good and impressively efficient given how busy it gets. There was a noticeable line when we went (especially on a weekend lunch time), but things moved steadily and the staff kept everything organized without feeling rushed or chaotic. Friendly and straightforward overall. Parking: Parking is one of the easier parts of the visit. It's located in a plaza with a large shared lot, so there's plenty of space and no real hassle finding a spot, even during peak hours.
