I haven't been back here for a while, and to my surprised this place has gone down hill with their dim sum. Smallest dim sum menu I have ever seem for a full service restaurant. The service is still excellent here. But the dim sum was not, everything we had was blend no flavor what so ever. The rice they used for the fried rice was very hard. Not sure if their dinner menu has change also, but for those prices I won't be finding that out. read more

I've been craving dim sum for quite a while and this place hit the spot! We came on a weekday around 11:45 and there was one table seated, so we got greeted and attended to at the speed of light! The restaurant is very spacious with plenty of seating, large windows for lots of natural light and beautiful chandeliers. By the time we finished our meal more than half the tables were filled with a dim sum loving crowd. Everything we ordered was delicious and cooked to perfection. Har gow and shu mai are always a great go-to, but if you're a fan of calamari this place this place rocks it! The staff is very friendly and quick to respond. Update: Upon entering, like most tea houses, they ask what tea you would like. It's $2/pp, just so you know. Even though the menu still says $1.50/pp. The restaurant is spacious and brightly lit, and can seat many people during peak hours. We were here on a weekday, so it wasn't crowded. All patrons were seated away from each other. Service was ok, yet not too attentive. We had to flag them down for more hot water for our tea pot. ***OUR PICKS*** CHICKEN FEET ~ Good flavor and a bit spicy, but not overly salty like some other tea houses. 4/5 PORK AND PRESERVED EGG PORRIDGE ~ Too thin and watery and the egg was cooking in the porridge that the yolk turned a pale yellow color. I've always known the egg should be added right before serving. The pork was tough and wasn't something to eat, but only added into the pot for flavor. Bland tasting that it needed something like white pepper and soy sauce, but I only took a few sips and left the rest. I didn't want to drink soy sauce and pepper! 1/5 BEEF CHOW FUN ~ lots of wok hay, but there wasn't much seasoning to it. Tasted a bit bland like it was lacking soy sauce. 3/5 BEEF CILANTRO CREPE ~ these rolls were pretty soft and decent. It was rolled the old school way. Flavor was on point, though I like the new way of how some places make crepe rice rolls. But these were good as well. 4/5 CHINESE BROCCOLI ~ tender greens with oyster sauce on the side. Nothing special about this dish, but it was perfectly cooked. 4/5 COCONUT CAKE ~ I ordered this before, but this time, it wasn't creamy or reminiscent of the tea house coconut jello from years ago. It didn't have coconut milk in it or it was watered down. And it had a little bit of coconut extract rather than real coconut milk or cream. You could barely taste the coconut flavor. Sadly, it wasn't the same as when I first visited. But the texture was ok and the amount given was generous. Too bad the flavor wasn't there. 3/5 STEAMED TOFU SKIN ROLL ~ This was pretty good and tasty. Fungus and vegetables gave it a crunch. 4/5 Honestly, it's a hit or miss depending on what you order. This restaurant was terrible in every aspect -- save your money and spend it elsewhere. I rarely go to dim sum places that disappoint and this place was a first. Not a SINGLE dish I ordered tasted good. The shrimp rice rolls just tasted off -- it just tasted so.... shrimpy and not fresh. The broccoli was poorly seasoned and also didn't taste too fresh. Our dumplings had awful presentation, and I'm not normally one to judge a book by its cover, but you can do that at this restaurant because the dumplings were as bad as they looked. Not very juicy, but unfortunately out of all the dishes we ordered this may have been the most bearable... The fried rice looked the most promising but it just didn't hit the spot. I was hungover when I ate here and this place made it worse. To top it all off, their service is awful. They offer tea but it's around ~$2 per person but they don't mention that when they ask. They automatically added gratuity on our party when we were just 5 people (restaurants normally do this at 6 people). We accidentally spilled some water and the waiter had a nasty attitude about it, grabbed our own napkins from the table to clean it up, and left the ground murky and dirty. This is a very popular restaurant which serves Dim Sum. We came during non peak times a few times, to avoid the wait. The Lobster with e-Fu noodles is our favorite. It has a whole lobster on a bed of e-Fu noodles, which are lucky noodles with a very distinctive taste. Chinese Broccoli with Beef is our second go-to. Chinese Broccoli (Gai Lan) is rich in flavor and is a dark green leafy vegetable. Not just your boring American Broccoli Beef. The ambience is elegant with very nice tall backed chairs, tablecloths and high ceilings. The wait staff takes pride in their work, being very professional. We originally planned to go to Fiery Shanghai but made the huge mistake of walking into KW Restaurant instead. Although we were seated immediately, things quickly went downhill. Seated at Table 44, we hadn't even ordered yet, and the service was already horrendous. We were given a menu that also served as an order sheet. Since it was our first time at the restaurant, we took some time to review the offerings. When I asked the server what was in the Steamed Siu Mai, she snatched the menu from my mom, mumbled something incomprehensible, and walked off. Offended, I told her my mom was still looking at the menu and politely requested another one since we were a party of three. She glared at me, visibly annoyed, and when I repeated my question about the Siu Mai, she slammed the menu down and curtly said, "Pork & shrimp," before storming off. She checked on us twice to see if we were ready to order, and her attitude got worse each time. When I handed her the menu, she grabbed it as if it were a chore. Later, when I asked about the price of a dish, her dismissive response was, "I don't know," before she walked away again. To make matters worse, the bill included a 15% service charge. Rewarding this level of rudeness? Unbelievable. I'll assume it went to the BOH staff because they deserve better than to have this server representing them. If you're in the mood for Cantonese food with a side of hostility, KW Restaurant is the place for you. As for me, I'll never be back. read more

We decided to try out King Wah for my mom's birthday celebration. Oftentimes, we see a lot of customers waiting in front of the restaurant when we pass by. To our surprise, we were quickly seated when we arrived at the restaurant. There are stiff competition for Dum Sum supremacy in the area. You have the venerable Mayflower and Koi Palace nearby, and my favorite shumai among all them which is Golden Sand Harbor. King Wah though is almost all dim sum, whereas the other restaurants mentioned have other Chinese dishes. We ordered the standard fare: Shumai, Chicken feet, Dried Scallop Chow Mien, Salt & Pepper fish, Shrimp Dumplings, my daughter's favorite Xiao Long Bao, and a bit more. For the taste? Its absolutely good. If I can quantify it, it is about as good as the other more prominent Dum Sum restaurants around. I reckon that they have the best chicken feet around, the chow mien and scallop fried rice is very tasty and the rest were pretty strong. I would comment though that their shumai was some steps behind the other restaurants aforementioned. Abi liked the xiao long bao good because each is individually in a foil container. As far as for the wait and accessibility, King Wah is 100% much better than the rest. For a lunch at Mayflower or Koi Palace, expect to allocate at least an hour before you get to your table. I would very much go to King Wah and have our lunch immediately rather than stand for a while waiting for table on the other dim sum restaurants. Our server was nice. I do like to add the their water cups are easily tipped. It least 3 in our party had their water cups tipped and so does the table beside us. A dependable go-to for dim sum and Chinese food, featuring Cantonese cuisine in a convenient location. King Wah is in a prime location across from the Outlets, with many competitors within a 10 minute-drive radius. The dim sum selection is extensive all week. Quality is dependable-- Maybe not the absolute best, but it is always consistent and decently priced-two things that I can't say about many other spots. This is a great place to get dim sum. The service is fast. Dim sum will come out just within about 5 minutes of ordering it. They have a wide menu to choose from. The restaurant can feel packed since there is a lot of seating. However, I understand that they get busy on weekends. I recommend trying this place on a weekday when they are less busy. read more

This is one of those Once and Never again. They've opened for a few years now and I live in the Tri-Valley but never tried. These mom and pops are a hit and miss. Today I was out and about with 2 of my children and tried here because a restaurant in the same plaza was packed. I felt like some Canto congee. Paper and pen order, placed wrong order until i corrected. Not sure now 'deep fried salt and pepper tofu' becomes a 'jelly fish' order. The first dimsum order that came out was a deep fried dish, I knew they re-heated it but at least do a better job; it was warm to cold and not hot. Service was meh, congee spoon was dirty. And I know these days everything is expensive but for 1 adult, 2 kids: 4 dimsum, 1 congee and a fried noodle ~100$ with the auto 15% tip. (The tipping thing I just detest American cuisine culture in general; sorry just came back from Japan trip where tip is nothing stilll with impeccable service.) For these prices, I might as well pay similar and go to a Koi Palace or May Flower and at least try to get slightly better service for the auto tip. Hate to say it but Tri-valley mom and pop dimsum places are just not up to par as in the other one I reviewed in Dublin. :( read more

We've seen this place a few times and wanted to have some Chinese food, so in we went. The staff all speak very limited English but are super friendly and prompt with everything. Don't go there and expect small chit chat with anyone, just getting down to business and eating. The place was clean. The service was quick. The food was good. The Mongolian beef was really good and flavorful. The lemon chicken has a great taste but I don't think there was any chicken in it. It tasted like all breading which wasn't crispy at all. Think funnel cake texture. It wasn't good and we wouldnt get that again. The chow mein said combo which we assumed was beef, shrimp and chicken. Turns out it was seafood combo with chicken. It wasn't bad, just surprised. The only thing that brings this review down is the fact that they put an 18% service charge automatically on every check and don't tell you. Which is a little disturbing and feels deceiving. If you're going to charge me for a tip, don't expect me to tip you again. Service is fairly fast and during the week for lunch it's usually never a wait to get a table. Weekends are usually full of people. Came here recently with my parents for dim sum and I was quite disappointed. I didn't really realize it until this visit, but their selection of steamed dim sum is very limited. For example , they don't have the steamed tofu bean curd with pork. Isn't that a popular item? I'll admit I did not look at the prices when I ordered so I was shocked when I got the bill. It was $131 with a mandatory 15% service charge for three people. Each dish ranged from $6-9. When did dim sum get so pricey?! Yes, we had leftovers but that's quite expensive for mediocre dim sum. I did enjoy the shrimp dumplings, shrimp steamed rolls and the lotus wrapped rice with chicken. I enjoyed the food and ambiance here on a Saturday at 2 pm, so it was not crowded at all. The food is ok to good, 3 stars, seating is very pleasant with good sunlight coming in. The jasmine flower tea is very nice; we drank three pots. We ordered a plate of Singapore noodles, two plates of chicken feet, two plates of tofu rolls, gai-lan, claypot of roast duck and rice noodles, and steamed buns with a custard for dessert. I used to come here all the time. They had a Cupertino location. We came right when the restaurant opened and the staff was very nice. It is one of the only dim sum restaurant that opens very early in the morning. The food came out piping hot. Unfortunately from there things pretty much went downhill. Service overall was super fast, and interior was pretty large and modern for a dimsum spot in the bay (restrooms are super clean as well). We ordered the shrimp dumplings, scallop/shrimp specialty dumplings, steamed pork ribs, and shrimp rice noodle. Overall not bad compared to south bay dimsum spots, especially the shrimp rice noodle. I have been coming to King Wan with my family for a couple of years now. I loved the customer service and how fast they are at preparing the food so I wanted to share one of my favorite restaurants with my office. Pick up was really easy since they usually have the food ready to go with each item checked off as they place it in the bag so we never had to worry about items being forgotten. I do wish they had online ordering but ordering pick up over the phone is fairly fast and straightforward as well. This restaurant has become our office's favorite for lunch since it's fast and delicious. Chinese restaurant that serves dim sum located in the heart of this strip mall with tons of Asian eateries. I took my niece and nephew here for lunch before we went to go watch a movie close by. We got here right at lunchtime so the place was pretty packed and there was a line. The funny thing is, we seriously didn't wait that long maybe 10 to 15 minutes. I think we got lucky. I was super excited, and so are my niece and nephew. We ordered the usual's items like the fried taro root, the shrimp dumplings, pork shumai, bbq pork buns, Shanghai soup dumplings, etc. We also ordered the fun egg custard buns that look like piggies! I think our eyes were bigger than her stomach, because we also were excited, and we ordered the pan fried seafood noodles. By the time that came, we were so full we had to get it to go. All in all, I thought the dim sum here was delicious. And the dumplings were firm and cooked really well. The service was also straight to the point no nonsense. The lady was nice and was responsive every time I called her over. I would say it's pretty standard service for a dim sum place. Just a note about this place/shopping center - I grew up in the area and growing up. There is not a lot of Asian eatery options like this. I am impressed by their dim sum! In particular, I LOVED THE SHU MAI! It was juicy and it had the right amount of pork and shrimp in the dumpling! It was truly the stand out item on the table. The har gow was pretty good too. However, it was a lot smaller than what I'm typically used to seeing at dim sum restaurants. The deep fried shrimp dumpling was excellent! I enjoyed dipping it in mayonnaise for the perfect bite! The freshly steamed Chinese broccoli in premium broth was a perfect pallet cleanser in between bites of dim sum. JUST A NOTE! Tons of HIDDEN CHARGE and TERRIBLE SERVICE !!!!!!!! Do not come!!!!! We ordered porridge and three dim sums items and each item came out to be $1-$3 more than what is on their menu. Porridge says $11.50 on the menu but receipt came out to be $14.50. The dim sum is $6 on the menu but came out to be $8-$9. Furthermore, there is a forced tip of 18%?!?! Since when does Chinese restaurant force tip on 2 people?!?! Everything here is so ethically and potentially legally wrong!!!! We pointed this out to the waiter and she argued that they have a new menu but just didn't have time to update it. Ok so is that my problem? So does that mean you can charge whatever you want and customers need to pay? The waiters attitude was so bad that we had to ask for the manager. In the end, the manager only removed the tip and wouldn't update the price. We didn't want to waste anymore time arguing and left. On top of all this, the service and food was quite bad. We waited almost 40 minutes for our food to come out and the restaurant wasn't even busy. We had to ask for our food 5 times before it finally came out. I have been searching for this place for over 30 years. And what I mean by that is there used to be a restaurant in San Francisco called Kam's Chinese food restaurant which is no longer there but it is the Cantonese style Chinese food I grew up on and also what feels like home. You would think in my 30 years of living in San Francisco that I would've been able to find a similar chow fun but the answer is no. I finally happened upon King Wah restaurant and to my utter delight and surprise they have all of the dishes that I grew up on and I am so excited to be able to bring my family here for all of our celebrations Father's Day's birthdays Mother's Day's and any other excuse that I can find to eat at this lovely establishment. The service is amazing the staff is attentive kind polite and very friendly. The pricing is just what you would expect for Chinese food and they have dim sum all day long! I do wish this was closer to my home in Oakland because I would eat here at least once a week but as it stands I will have to make the trek all the way here at least 1x a month to have the Chinese food that I grew up on. I cannot recommend this Chinese food more and I will happily travel and suggest people travel to this restaurant. We will definitely be back. read more

The restaurant is very small, but they do have an outdoor dining available for lunch, but not sure about dinner. They don't the ticket system. You have to go line up if they are full. Shrimp dumpling: 3.5/5. The wrap is thin enough to break when you try to pick one up with chopsticks. Chicken feet: 4/5. the sauce is good Walnut buns: 2/5. It has walnut chunks inside. I found that they were too big that ruined the taste. That's because walnut has no taste. Purple yam buns: 4/5. Must have. Haven't seen it in anywhere else in the east bay and South Bay dim sum restaurants. It's just too small. Deep Fried dough rice noodle: 3.5/5. If the deep fried dough was crunchier, this would be a 4. There isn't enough sesame. Chinese sponge cake. 1/5. Did the dum sum chef forget to put sugar??? It was bland! Beef stew rice noodle clay pot: 3.5/5. Sauce is great.
