This post is for purely delivery. It was the most disappointing well, one of the most disappointing children I've had in Miami. I really don't understand what it is. Sushi in Miami. It's either remarkably amazing. I'll be expensive, or pure trash. This place means towards pure trash. I ordered the Madre e hijo bro, asking for no cream cheese very explicitly. I really have no idea what is up with Southern Florida and their obsession with cream cheese and sushi rolls, however, many times this sushi roll taste predominantly like cream cheese if that is an ingredient even in a small amount in a maki roll. Secondly, I ordered a Saba Nigiri ($6 for one piece... Which is ridiculous) ... super skinny cut, with lots and lots of really bland rice without the proper Mirin and other ingredients of gorgeous rice... And by the way, Sushi really is about the rice, and not the fish. Anyway... but I did not receive the Saba. Instead, I got the tilapia cut. This is a cheap fish that is considered a garbage fish and is two dollars cheaper than the actual cut of the Saba Nigiri that I had ordered. How do you screw that up when there are only eight or so options of Nigiri/sashimi on your menu? Maybe I am extremely spoiled with good sushi in my hometown. Of Minnesota. A landlocked state. Next Canada. And yet, I can get better and more reliably consistent high-quality sushi at any restaurant in the Twin Cities, Minnesota compared to places like this, and others like Matsuri (see my review). read more

The staff was lovely but the food truly was not good. My order: chirashi and hot green tea. It's not often I post a negative review, but I think the food is deserving for the following reasons: 1) the raw fish was lukewarm- which makes me concerned for food safety. 2) the ikura had an unpleasant fishy odour , so I did nit even try it (there should be no odour) 3) the eel was cold and had minimal sauce 4) water (assuming thawed frozen fish) was dripping from some of the fish. All of this for an eye-blistering $32. Also the entire menu was way over priced. ($7 for miso soup are you kidding?) Service was fine, however. Fantastic sushi spot in Doral! Came by for the first time on Friday for dinner. The restaurant is located in a strip mall with plenty of parking. The decor is cute and service was exceptional. We started with the Maguro Cocktail which was light, flavorful and delicious. We also ordered the Suzuki Fry which was amazing - a 10/10!! We had the Fantasy Roll, the Kanikyurimaki roll and the Fragata roll, all of which were fresh and very good. Portions are big so you can sample a number of dishes and share amongst the table. Amazing dinner at Kokai! Made a reservation on Friday night and was able to successfully get a table. The server was very attentive and sweet. To start we ordered the Maguro Cocktail which was phenomenal. The presentation was beautiful but the taste even better. We also ordered the Suzuki Fry which I typically wouldn't have ordered at a sushi restaurant, but I was proven wrong. The flavors were delicious and it felt like comfort food in every bite! Salmon Tuna Delight roll was also soo good. The yellow pepper sauce was both spicy and sweet, it elevated the roll and made it very unique Kanikyurimaki roll was delicious and refreshing. It's the largest portion of this roll I've ever come across which is a huge plus. Thai donuts for dessert were standard. I'm so happy I found this spot in my neighborhood. I made a reservation but it wasn't needed as there were tables available for a Saturday dinner. The service was great, the food was delicious and fresh, and the place is inviting and cozy. The one thing I wish I knew was that their rolls are on the large size so we over ordered. But now I know for the next time. I think that any of the rolls we got could be split with 2 people. We had Miso soups, edamame, and steamed gyozas for appetizers. The Kani kyuri maki, crab meat rolled in cucumber which many people may know it as Kanisu roll, was delicious. Rainbow, Dynamite Deluxe, Viñedo rolls were also fantastic. And the Fire Roll was spectacular! Definitely one to order again! We also got a Madre E Hijo Temaki and it was very tasty. I think that they should have a sushi chef taste the quality of rice, tightness of the rolls, quality of cutting and quality of the unagi sauce. The Unagi sauce if reduced a little more would yea like a deeper flavor, the fish wasn't fully cut thru, so when I picked it up it would pull the fish off the next piece and the dragon roll was half an avocado roll - Solution, interchange the avocado with the eel, it would look good and the customer would have a bite of avocado and eel! You're using the same amount, better flavor. If you order SPICY tuna or dynamite salmon, it should have a kick. Simple easy changes would bring this sushi spot up. read more

Our next family food adventure take us Kokai Sushi & Lounge located in Doral with a category of 4.5 with more then 727 comments, looking for a culinary experience we came to this restaurant. The decoration is perfect for the Japanese food and distinctive of a very ancient culture. The attention was excellent. What I liked the most is that you can see the entire preparation process of each roll by the chefs who enjoy each creation. I believe that true sushi does not need soy sauce, that gives it the unique flavor that is achieved with the combination of each ingredient and in Kokai they managed to give the dish a different flavor. When you finish eating everything you order, even the dessert, you can't tell which one was the best since they were all delicious and incredibly delicious. Can't believe I had neglected to review my go-to sushi spot for this long! So here it goes... BEST sushi in town... the END. No, but seriously, highly recommend many things on the menu. My absolute favorite is the Alejandro Roll but I've tried many others and I haven't had a single complaint on any, volcano, tsunami, tropical, geisha, dragon, and the list goes on and on. Their house salad is also fantastic (seaweed salad + raw salmon chunks) as a starter and their steamed gyozas although these are pretty standard, it's the first time I've ever seen them served with mustard and it just works. My fiancé enjoys their fish broth soup occasionally as well. I will say that this is not a cheap date/meal idea but you're paying for the high quality so to me it's worth it every time. Some things I would stay away from though: 1. Their fried ice cream; only tried it once because I had a deep craving and lived to regret ordering it. Just really not worth the calories. 2. Ordering through their direct website has given me problems on 2 separate occasions so its best to either use Uber eats for delivery or call in the order to the restaurant for pick-up. Kokai has been my go-to sushi spot for years! Always felt welcome and the staff are all really friendly! Kokai has been the sushi spot for my family for years for the quality of the food. No matter how many other sushi restaurants we try, we always end up going back to this one. For starters, for appetizers I would totally recommend the ouse salad, which has salmon and wakame, and any of the Maguros. Overall, our favorite rolls from Kokai are: Miami Chef, Dynamite Deluxe, and my all time favorite, Tsunami roll. All of these rolls are beautifully done, and no matter how many times I get them, I never get tired of this sushi. Aside from the food, something we always do is order a wine bottle, and as a wine fan myself it is really good and affordable for what we get. Kokai has and continues to be one of my favorite restaurants in Miami. I will never stop recommending it to my friends and family, and I will never stop killing my sushi cravings there! read more

First of all the miso soup was cold and tofu inside huge cut and cold from the fridge. Rice, well, I have a problem when I cool rice, it looks like mashed potatoes... so I do NOT cook rice :) here, rice was ultra overcooked and chewy. Awful for sushi... the nigiris were very poorly cut, oversized and oh well.... Rolls, we had a rainbow that had basically no flavor, oversized with this same sticky rice and the wasabi? Oh my goodness, I think it was wasabi cream to spread on bread!! The other roll, I could imagine it was going to be different and it was... don't even recall the name, but had salmon and tuna and some kind of a spicy sauce on the outside... again, same rice... We also had a wakame salad with crab and salmon... they put some kind of flakes on the top, I think they just dumped the rest of the bag... it simply faded the taste of the plate. All in all, invited someone to a "good" sushi place and had to apologize for the experience! Sorry again.... My boyfriend and I were in the area and searching for a good sushi spot for lunch. We came across Kokai Sushi and it had great reviews so we figured it was worth a stop in. Based on the reviews I wanted to be blown away by this place, but it was just average for me. We ordered 2 rolls and the lunch bento box which came with miso soup. The bento box fell a little flat for me and was lacking flavor, I felt like it needed a little salt or something. The miso soup was honestly one of the best things we had. The most flavorful miso soup I have probably ever had. Came out really hot and was delicious. I am not a huge fan of cream cheese in my sushi, so that knocked out a lot of our options. We opted for the lunch special roll which was a Miami Chef roll at t discounted price. It was shrimp tempera rolled with a crab salad. It was lacking the eel sauce on top which I think would have brought it more together for me. We also got the fantasy roll. It was good pretty tasty and I liked the combo of the salmon tempera inside with the raw salmon outside. They were both very friendly and helpful with the recommendations. The inside is decorated super cute and the food was delicious. We ordered a few things: the House Salad was our top 1. That is exactly what I mean when I say "I want to eat something fresh/cold". The other items were: Shrimp Shumai, Crab roll (Maybe had too much Ponzu sauce for our taste), Kyoto Roll (which we were given with a yummy spicy ponzu to pair it with), Maguro Cocktail (it is like a tiradito) SO GOOD! We also order 1 beer and 2 teas and the total bill was $114 before tip. The portions are very generous so it is very affordable for the quality of the food. We will 100% go back. Also, kudos to the way you have your menu! I loved to see the "Rice-less Rolls" and the "Soybean & Rice paper rolls". I did like this restaurant.... Eventhough it isn't a traditional Japanese style restaurant their take on it is very flavorful. In fact, their twist on rolls is much better than their traditional dishes like Chirashi.... (not really good). But... their other options like tuna tataki and the riceless rolls were awesome. Also very good was the mix yaki, a trio of skewers steak, chicken and shrimp with a delicious teriyaki sauce. Service is good and the restaurant has a nice vibe. Open kitchen plan and good decor. Sushi with no regrets! Sleepy quiet during the week, but the food will awaken your sushi senses. On a Wednesday at 5pm, I was the only dine-in customer. But hey, I kinda like having a restaurant to myself. The Venezualan-born server worked on Latin time, but I was in no hurry. I started my dinner with a glass or Japanese Plum wine--it was very sweetly delicious. I then has Seaweed Salad for an appetizer. It was ever so slightly rank tasting, even for seaweed. Otherwise pretty standard. For the main course, I had a salmon-tuna roll mayo sauce. It came out very quicky from the sushi chef and was colorful, fresh, sticky, tangy, and sweet. Excellent! For dessert, I had the Carrot & Zuchini Cake. It was billed as "sugar free" yet was sweet, apparently with artificial sweetener. Still, very spongy and fresh! I returned to my glass of Plum wine to wash it all down. The lounge seating made me want to stay an extra few minutes. A worthwhile Japanese experience, latin style! read more
