I love boba and sometimes you have to really go out of the way for it. Luckily, this place is walking distance for me and I waited for it to reopen for a hot minute. I finally got some yesterday. I got the Taro milk tea. It was so good first sip! I love taro and this tea reminded me a bit of rice crispy treats in the weirdest way. However, it was REALLY sweet, I mean REALLY sugary and I was barely able to drink half of it. If you have a strong sweet tooth, this is right up your alley. Unfortunately, I do not have one at all, so it was a little much for my personal taste. I will definitely go back, maybe even get it again, but ask them to not make it so sweet. My SO tried it too and also found it to be good aside from the intense sweetness. He got the Tigers blood I believe, his was good too. And much more palatable. read more

I came here with two cravings to satisfy: my need for sweet red bean (fav dessert is patbingsu which I can't find in Richmond) and boba in a good bubble tea. The menu wasn't very clear to follow and had small print. The guy at the counter was nice and remade my drink promptly once he realized the people in the back kitchen forgot to add the boba, which is fine since he fixed the mistake. The tea - a lychee milk tea - was light and needed more sugar (he never asked about Sweetness level and I didn't figure out from the menu to ask until I was waiting for my drink). The boba was fine but a stingy on the amount. I'm most upset about having CRUNCHY BEANS in my drink! They were not completely cooked! Red beans should be sweet and soft. Hugely disappointed. I'm coming back another day for a waffle but I would not recommend their bubble tea and will not order it again from this shop. read more

So...this used to be one of my FAVORITE bubble tea establishments in Richmond, VA. I stumbled upon it after repeated visits to Kung Fu Tea left me dissatisfied and unimpressed. I have frequented for a looong time now, and I am completely and utterly IN LOVE with their Brown Sugar Milk Tea (which, if you're at all familiar, is remnant of the renowned Tiger Sugar) - easily five stars, hands down. However, I visited on Thursday, 7/15/2021, and, much to my dismay, the cup size had been DRAMATICALLY reduced...it literally appeared to be half the size of their former cup, and was significantly slimmer in circumference, which, of course, wouldn't have been as big an issue had the price point not remained consistent at $6.30 - half the product with no subsequent reduction in price?! One can imagine my level of perplexity. My initial presumption was that there must have been a mistake, but I quickly came to the realization that wasn't the case when I inquired with the employee behind the counter, and she first pretended to be oblivious, and then became dismissive as she refused to acknowledge, let alone offer an explanation for the abrupt change. I am hopeful that this was a mistake, and do intend to contact the establishment, pending the outcome of which I would, of course, be receptive to updating my review, accordingly. Great news: you can substitute the non-dairy powder (which still contains casein) with soy, almond, or coconut milk for some of their milk teas. I don't have the exhaustive list, but I do know you unfortunately can't do it for taro because the powder is pre-mixed! Nevertheless, I'm so happy I can drink milk tea again! Even if milk teas aren't your thing, you still have options like the Lyche on Lychee and Mango Passionfruit teas. Those are my favorites so far, but I'm looking forward to trying more. While there are fewer options here than at Kung Fu Tea, the menu is definitely more creative. read more

Overpriced and not very good tea. I ordered the lychee green tea with boba, and while I got a good amount of tea, the quality was not worth $5.25. The tea didn't even taste like lychee, much less tea, it essentially had all the taste of water. However, the boba was the perfect chewiness, but the tastelessness of the tea made the experience much less enjoyable. Staff is friendly and service is quick, but I've had better bubble tea for less. The interior is clean, and there's nothing wrong with the establishment itself, plus the menu offers plenty of choices, but try Gigi Tea Time, Kung Fu Tea, or TT Lounge for fruit tea with more flavor. read more

Love this place! I wish we lived closer but then I'd be here every day. The boba are always soft and chewy, good tea and coffee. We tried a fruit version once and it was good - didn't taste all artificial like some I've found but I need the caffeine version so that's what I usually stick with. It's cool to have the Korean and Japanese ramen shops in the same section as well. I don't quite understand the bar setup on the side but looks like a good place to hang out at night. read more

I am first and foremost excited to have a bubble tea place in Carytown. I visited this Kokee Tea after they had been open for two weeks so I plan on giving them another try and updating my review accordingly. On my visit, the staff was very friendly and the service was very fast. While I was waiting for my order, I tried the samples that were out and all of them were pretty good. I ended up ordering the Taro Milk Tea and I did not like it at all. I guess they use powdered taro when making the drinks. It definitely tasted like taro powder with water and a hint of milk. The bubbles were so overcooked very chalky tasting. Because I was in a rush, I just left and tried to drink it on the car ride home but I couldn't finish it. I threw it away when I got home which was a complete waste of almost $6. I will definitely give this place another try as it was within their first month of being open but I will not try the Taro Slush ever again. read more

Amazing boba and the owner is super nice!

They have decent bubble tea but every time I have gone in they have never been open. Today I showed up at around 11:45am thinking it's pretty late in the morning and they should be open. They never have business hours posted on their door so I never know their hours. I finally asked someone who works there. She goes and checks for me. She comes back and tells me the owner opens at different times basically when they feel like it. This is a bad business model. I am not going to spend time circling around Carytown to find a parking space just to get some bubble tea if they are not going to be open. I live in Midlothian so I will drive 20 minutes to get some good bubble tea. There are plenty of other places to get bubble tea. Sorry, but you lost a customer. read more

So disclaimer, I am not the kind of person who complains often, but the past 2 times I have come here I have become sick after having their crystal boba. My mom and I both ordered Crystal Boba and had some pretty bad tummy issues shortly after. I have been drinking bubble tea for years and never had this reaction before. My boyfriend got the normal tapioca and he was fine, so I guess it is just the crystal boba. I will say, however, their tea is delicious. read more

Came here with the niece for a quick meal and bubble tea. I hadn't been in a long time, not since the split into the food court vibe. Sometimes trying to do too much is not a good thing. My first impression was that the whole place could use a bit of a scrub, just dingy. We ordered Zzaam from an indifferent staffer, used the various sticky, grubby bottles of sauce to flavor it and sat to eat it in a gloomy corner. Bubble tea was our real reason for coming, so I decided it was a safe bet since it seemed the busiest station at the whole place, by far. In all the two of us had a few veg in our lunches in common and we both had boba in our teas. Other that, our meals were different, but our urgent needs for the bathroom within an hour were a shared experience :( Will definitely not be going back there. Convenient location because it's close to the undergrad campus and in Cary town, but the boba is terrible. The first time I came here it was great, I had the house black milk tea. But the second time I came here the boba tasted like it had been left in the fridge for days. It was hard and lost all softness and chewiness. I don't understand how they could serve this. If you've ever bought boba and then put it in the fridge, then you know what I'm talking about - it turns hard because it's sitting in the milk in the fridge. I am usually always too embarrassed to tell people to fix my drink, but I had to because it was undrinkable. They said they couldn't make me another one LOL WHAT. And gave me a 20% coupon instead. Well anyways, I decided to give it a second chance and use that coupon. This time boba tasted sour, which is not a good sign. I decided to not waste my time and leave.
