Went last night to celebrate my birthday. I've always wanted to go to Komodo ever since I moved to Texas which was 4 years ago. It was my very first time going to Komodo and the first time experience was not the greatest. Before I go into my review, I did enjoy the ambiance, decor and food. The food was actually really good and the portions were decent. I ordered the wagyu beef dumplings and garlic noodles for starters. I initially chose the Peking duck and was super excited to try it. This is where it started to downhill... As we were ordering starters and drinks, the drinks came out fairly quick and the starters did take about 15-20 minutes which I understand it was a Saturday night. After most of the appetizers came out, we decided to order our entrees because we noticed how long the appetizers took. About hour and some time goes by, the waiter comes back to tell me they just ran out of Peking duck. Which was disappointing so I quickly ordered the Korean fried chicken. The timing with how they ran out the entrees was a whole mess. There were two food runners that were confused with the food orders. 1 of 8 of my friends got their food way before all of us, we had waited an additional 15 minutes before 2 more entrees came out. Oh! My second appetizer (garlic noodles) still haven't come out yet and some of my friends had their entrees....My Korean fried chicken came out but it was fairly quickly so I'm not sure they just threw it in real quick for an apology of taking so long. Two of the breasts we're hard and tough to cut. So then we waited and waited for my very last friend to get her Lo mein...it was an extra 45 minutes until she was able to get her food!!!!! Unacceptable. I was so irritated about that and just ruined the mood. We were all done eating our food by then. We were already frustrated and ready to go at that point, but as soon as she got her food, the veggies were undercooked and it was an overall upsetting situation. I wish I had a better outcome and better celebration for my birthday. I would only recommend this place if you have nothing to do..because you will be waiting for your food for a long time. I tried Komodo in Las Vegas and enjoyed the vibes. So I definitely had to come and visit the Dallas location since this is my city. I can say I am a fan and enjoyed my dining experience more here in Dallas! The ambiance is amazing and just beautiful. The restaurant is sexy, chic, glamorous and very stylish. The colors are rich and vibrant. The cherry blossoms and red accents throughout the dining room and bar area are stunning. Service was great and my waiter Que was pleasant. He was polite and friendly. Food was good, but could be better. I want great food with these prices. The garlic noodles were tasty, but I have had way better garlic noodles. They were missing something. Now three of us ordered the surf and turf rice. This is my favorite dish. The portions of lobster and steak were all different on our plates. Mine had the least and seemed a bit skimpy compared to my friends. We all agreed on this. So the chef needs to do better controlling the portions of lobster and steak. It was still flavorful and delicious. Cocktails are weak in my opinion. Both in Vegas and Dallas. My friends and I also agreed on this. Overall Komodo is a lovely space. Next up I plan to try the Miami location. This restaurant is great for special occasions, date night with friends or your significant other. I met up with friends for a quick dinner at Komodo. We had already been to happy hour and gotten drinks and an appetizer so we really just wanted something tasty to eat. The service was really good. Our server was very attentive and consistently checked up on us to make sure we were ok and answer any questions. The ambiance of the restaurant is nice. It a great spot for a romantic dinner, the bar area is nice to meet other singles, and the restaurant is nicely decorated. I decided to go with the surf and turf fried rice. If fact, most of my table got the same dish. I'm glad I got that dish. I had so much lobster. My friends were shocked and all said I had a lot of lobster. Me and my girls had the a girls' night here. Everything -- and I mean EVERYTHING -- was delicious. The staff was incredibly kind and attentive, which made the whole experience even better. The bathrooms are a bit of a journey to get to, but they're extremely well kept, so the walk isn't too bad. After around 10pm (I think?) there's an upstairs lounge with a bar, a DJ, and it's a good spot if you want to dance and get a little club vibe in. Talk about the perfect spot- girls' night, date night, solo date... you name it--Komodo fits the bill. I went on a Friday evening for dinner with a few girlfriends, and we will absolutely be back. First, the vibe and decor: it truly has a grown, upscale feel. The lighting is moody, stylish, and there are plenty of seating options throughout the space. The bar is a great size and adds to the lively atmosphere. It's the kind of place where you immediately feel like you're in for a fun night out. The staff was amazing. Every single person who stopped by our table was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. They explained dishes, checked in at the right moments, and made sure we had everything we needed without ever being intrusive. Peter and Desiree were our servers for the evening, and they didn't miss a detail. Both had great personalities and struck the perfect balance of being attentive without hovering. They seemed to anticipate what we needed before we even had to ask, and their timing throughout the meal was spot on. We had the chance to try quite a few menu items, and nothing disappointed. With such a large menu, there's still so much we want to come back and try- and based on what we had, I'm confident we will be in for a treat again! After dinner (and a fantastic dessert), we headed upstairs to check out the lounge. It was jamming up there! I saw a lot of mixed reviews for this place so we were a little hesitant to go. After dining there, I get why the divide. I think it really depends on what you are looking in your dining experience. Here's my take: Ambiance and Service: 5/5 One of the coolest Asian restaurants that I've been to. The vibe is awesome and the decor is super cool. The music is upbeat and amazing. I wouldn't say it's like a club but pretty close. Our server (Dylan) was super cool and helpful with navigating the menu. Food: 4/5 Truffle Honey Salmon: 5/5 This was our fav dish. The spicy edamame were some of the best dressed edamame I've had. The tomahawk steak was cooked to perfection served with lychee sauce on the side that adds a nice balance to the tender steak. 3 of us shared the steak and it was plenty for 3. The pork ribs were sticky sweet with a caramelized glaze but fell off the bone easily. The night club upstairs is an ok space. As someone who is only 33, I still felt like I was one of the few people above 25 in the space. But it's a good space to dance off a little of the food before going to another spot like Green Elephant. Service was attentive--our waiter offered good recommendations. We provided our order for all three courses up front, all of which were brought to us at just the right time. For starters, I had the Wagyu steak tacos served in wonton shells--easily my favorite course of the evening. They were very tasty, though I wish there were more than two per order. I also tried the shrimp spring rolls, which came four to an order. Good for sharing, but the filling-to-fried ratio felt a bit off. For my entrée, I had the duck lo mein. The duck itself was flavorful and not overly gamey, but the citrus mixed into the lo mein created an unusual flavor combination that I'm not entirely sold on. Dessert featured yuzu dumplings and mochi. They are fairly small in size making them good to satisfy a sweet tooth but make sure you order more than one if you plan on sharing. My favorite was the yuzu dumpling--it had a soft, cold exterior with a ganache-like interior. Not what I expected, but still delicious. I hadn't come to this restaurant since I've heard mixed reviews about this place. We came for restaurant week just to give them a try. Ordered wagyu tacos and the seafood and turf maki rolls for our apps. Only one appitzer showed up. I had to chase down service half the time. As I did with not receiving my appetizer. The waiter finally came when I waived him down and he said he would check on it. Then came out to tell me it's on its way. Well another 5 minutes pass and my dinner is served. My dinner was the Korean fried chicken and my date's was the daring king pao chicken. Both were pretty flavorful but my chicken was on the wrong side of being fully cooked. And with her kung pao chicken, I've never been served that dish without rice. Weird stuff right?. I did finally receive my appetizer halfway through eating my entree. It was not bad but it tasted like regret for coming here. The desserts were the mochi which was ok and raspberry dumplings which was excellent. Definitely not coming back though. I always feel the whole point in doing restaurant week is to bring in customers that normally wouldn't come to your establishment and try to wow them so you will have a new client. Food was exceptional. Honestly very very good. Playing was beautiful and flavorful was fantastic. To start I got the cucumber salad, which was refreshing and delicious. Followed by the Thai shrimp which was Packed with flavor and cooked to perfection. I got the brazino with potatoes. This dish was very so flavorful, fish was fresh, and I was very pleasantly surprised. Potatoes were perfectly seasoned and cooked. I appreciated the food runner describing the dish when he dropped it off at the table, something a lot of places has slipped on, and it makes a huge difference in understanding the components of the dish upon arrival. My waitress was very welcoming and frequently checked in on me to make sure I was enjoying everything and didn't need anything. She was very prompt and timely with any request and thoughtful. This experience at Komodo Dallas was a bit of a flop to say the least. My partner had taken me here to celebrate my birthday, so I was excited. It quickly faded after It took over 10 minutes for us to be greeted by our server or even offered water. I had to wave down a the hostess to ask if our server would be with us shortly. Our server was polite throughout the service, but he maybe spoke to us 3 times in the 1 1/2 hours we were there. We never got a water refill even though he saw us a few times with our glasses low. We were not taken care of this entire experience. We had to ask about one of our appetizers because it had yet to be brought out before our entree, only for us to be notified that they were out. He offered another appetizer on the house which was very nice, but it only came out at the end. We just took it to-go since we had basically finished everything else. As for the food, everything was delicious and no glaring complaints. The food was enjoyable and the omakase was good, but the service is what leaves such a sour taste in my mouth. My partner's dish came out way before my omakase, and we would've appreciated if he asked if we would like for it to come out at the same time. Bao buns. Salad. Pastries. Chocolate cake. Soup & more. For my entree I ordered the Shanghai noodles which I really enjoyed. They were thick, flavorful, and pretty filling. They also have a bottomless drinks option but I didn't really like the options plus the drinks came by a little slow so make sure to be ON TIME if you get this. (There is a 2 hour table limit) Now back to the music. It was 10/10 and definitely what took this place from 4 stars to 5 stars for me. The Live DJ was definitely catering towards a younger African American audience lol so I had a time. Also just want to note that Komodo is booked and busy so make sure to get a reservation. It's a large restaurant so there was still alot of space even though it was crowded. The location is also great for photo ops. Especially the outdoors area. And valet is $10! Komodo Dallas is an easy five-star experience from start to finish. The atmosphere is stunning, modern, and full of energy, and my waiter Braeden delivered perfect service the entire night -- attentive, friendly, and always on point. Every dish I ordered was exceptional, including the Wagyu Beef Dumplings, Duck Lo Mein, Spicy Tuna Maki, Rainbow Maki, Salmon Truffle Maki, and the incredibly soft Japanese Milk Bread, plus a Sprite and a large Evian. Everything was fresh, flavorful, beautifully presented, and cooked exactly right. Wow. First time visiting and was not disappointed. My friend and I had reservations at 5pm (they opened at 5) and it was amazing. We were greeted at the door by friendly staff that welcomed us in from the cold. We were escorted to our seat after a 30 second wait as our hostess grabbed our menus. The decor, ambiance and atmosphere was amazing. We were one of the few parties that had reservations at that time so we really got to get a good look at the restaurant and its entirety. The music was nice and it wasn't too loud to where you could still hear as conversations flowed. Our server was John D and he was amazing. My friend is gluten-free and he went above and beyond to ensure she knew the options that were gluten-free, and also went out of his way to get her gluten-free soy sauce, which is rare at some places. That alone made our experience a 10 out of 10. Now what made our experience, a 12 out of 10 was his attentiveness to us, answering our questions, and most importantly the food. Wow talk about flavorful. We ended up getting a bunch of small plates, the flavors were one point and we were actually full. I got the cactus drink and I loved the presentation. It was fruity yet strong. Overall, we had an amazing experience and will definitely be coming back.
