The quality was better before the ownership change but it's still pretty good. I've been here many times before but this review is for the omakase option. They went with a lot of "safe" options for the nigiri, meaning mostly white fish. I was hoping for stronger tasting fish. Luckily the chef heard what I said so he gave me a piece of kohada (gizzard shad). I don't know why this wasn't part of the omakase set. I was disappointed in the appetizer, just a thing of brussel sprouts. Although it's not bad, if I'm ever in the mood for omakase I wouldn't choose Nori when Tatsu is literally right down the street. However, Nori is still a solid choice for handrolls.

Nori was my favorite food spot in Dallas! Pretty straight to the point with hand rolls, but they offer different tiered menus depending how hungry you are at very reasonable prices. The apps and cocktails are good as well. The hostess is great with keeping time and sitting you at the time of your reservation and was sweet enough to even hang our coats on hangers so it's not on our laps during the meal. I've come back here a couple times already and I was just visiting. It's also located in a popular area where you can hang and walk around for more eats or shopping.

Oh man im super bummed they changed management about a year ago because this place used to be my favorite place to go and would come back for when i visited in 2023. I would make day trips to dallas from orlando just for the handrolls. But it doesnt taste the same anymore as the flavor wasnt there for each handrolls and fish wasnt as fresh. The handroll that stood out the most to us was the scallops as it was super crunchy. But they gave us lean salmon, the toro did not hit the same and the crab and lobster just wasnt as good as we remembered. Also prices have gone up alot compared to their competitors for what we had. The crunch is there still and our staff was super sweet and gave us a chance to try the strawberry crepe cake but sadly i dont think we will be visiting dallas for nori anymore.

Not sure if there's a Sushi Bar quite like this in Dallas, but it's definitely reminiscent of a high end sushi joint in New York or Japan. This place is very quaint and unassuming. You have no idea that you're about to experience a top tier sushi/izakaya experience. You could tell by the service alone. They were very attentive, professional, and the sushi chef behind bar was happy to chat us up a little and give us a free education on wasabi root and why it's so unique and hard to procure. Ok on to the food. I'm sure everyone has had fried Brussels sprouts a million times over but these are slightly different. The leaves are fried and lightly mixed in a delicate sauce which lends out such a nice eating experience. The rock shrimp tempura tossed in what seems to be a very elevated sriracha dressing is a whole other texturally blissful moment. A near perfect izakaya dish. The takoyaki is very top tier with its custardy center and perfectly cooked octopus. The tuna flight is absolutely exceptional. Completely understated and every bite of tuna is actually better than the last. The Loro Uni Truffle Caviar Nigiri though pricey is one those types of experiences you treat yourself to. Nothing wrong with watching a high caliber sushi chef shave endless black truffle over your nigiri. And now for the name sake, the handroll. We ordered the spicy tuna, ebi, and torched crab. If you're coming for anything at all, come for the handrolls. Best deal on the menu and incredibly delicious. We cannot wait to come back!

A Must-Eat Experience! Do not let the location fool you ~ this place is a hidden gem and absolutely worth every bite! From start to finish, the food here is phenomenal. Every dish is crafted with care, flavor, and artistry that's rare to find. The owner Duke is always behind the sushi bar preparing everything himself ~ from fresh sashimi to perfectly rolled hand rolls and creative specialty dishes. He's incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about his craft, and it shows in every plate he serves. Watching him work adds to the whole experience ~ it's like dinner and a show in one! This time we had the: Chicken Karaage, Torched Crab Hand Roll, Salmon Sashimi, Yellowtail Special and Tuna Sushi. I've eaten here numerous times and will continue to come here ~ Everything is Wonderful! The service is excellent and the ambiance is fun, inviting and full of good energy. Whether you're a sushi or hand roll lover or new to it, this place will win you over. Parking is super easy, directly next door ~ and it's 100% Worth the drive. We drive from Rockwall. This spot is truly one of a kind. If you haven't been yet, GO. You'll thank yourself later! I only give HONEST and TRUE Reviews from the Heart. Thank you for taking the time to read it & react to it.

We really enjoyed our lunch at Nori Handroll. We ordered the Starving 5 piece set. All the sushi served was fresh and delicious. It was an interesting experience. I liked the long sushi bar aesthetic.

If vibes could teleport you, this spot would be your one-way ticket to another world. First Impression I almost didn't want to leave this review because part of me wanted to keep Nori Handroll Bar all to myself... but it's too good not to share. From the outside it's easy to miss, but step through the discreet entrance and you're transported into a warm, intimate space. The lighting is low, the wood finishes are sleek, and the entire dining room is one long bar where everyone sits shoulder to shoulder watching the sushi chefs at work. It feels exclusive and personal, almost like you've stumbled into a hidden spot not everyone knows about. The Food I tried three handrolls: lobster, crab, and scallops. The lobster was the standout with its buttery, meaty bite wrapped in crisp seaweed. The scallops was juicy and refreshing with nice flavor. The crab had great flavor too, but it had stiff competition sitting next to the other two. I left satisfied with three, though I know four would have filled me up completely without needing sides or appetizers. The Experience Service was attentive, which made the night feel smooth and relaxed. I noticed that the center of the bar offers the best view of the chefs rolling sushi, though it also means possibly being seated closer to more guests compared to the ends depending on how crowded the venue is. Highlights - Star of the Show: The lobster handroll. - Insider Secret: The center bar seats have the best view of the action, while the ends are a bit more private. - Final Word: Exclusive, intimate, and the kind of place I'd gladly come back to.

At first when I walked in and saw that it was completely empty I was a bit worried thinking this place wouldn't be as good as I was told. I was far from wrong because it was such an amazing restaurant from the food to the service. Ping was friendly and kind the entire time. Loved every dish that was served. Especially the yellowtail hamachi, Brussels sprouts and the crab hand rolls. I can't remember the name of the drink I got but it was with tequila and it was sooooo good. This is definitely a great place to checkout and I'll for sure be going back next time I'm in town!

I loved this place! We had a reservation so no wait time, but even as we were eating the food came out really quickly. I've never really had handrolls like this, so I'm not sure if I can make comparisons, but I overall really liked them. The fish tasted really fresh and the seaweed is wrapped right before serving, which keeps it really crispy! I liked that they had set options on the menu to make decisions easier but also the option to add handrolls ala carte if you want more afterwards. Would come again!

Five star experience at Nori Handroll Bar. We came into Dallas for the day around lunchtime and stumbled upon this handroll bar. I am a sucker for a good handroll so I was excited! To my surprise, they had an amazing lunch special so my friend and I opted for that in addition to on of their specials for the day. Sharing was the move since we were eating our way through the city. For the special, we got the Kanpachi which is an amberjack with uni, caviar & gold flakes. This was divine and we both enjoyed it, plus felt oh so fancy with the caviar and gold flakes. For the lunch special, we actually shared it one special. This came with our choose of appetizer (we got the edamame), and choose 4 temakis thinking we'd get two each. The two I chose were the King Salmon and the Negihama, and my friend also got the King Salmon but she got the Maguro. To our surprise, the chef divided the handrolls we got differently in two so we actually got to try everything. I absolutely loved how they did that. The contents in each handroll were so fresh and the seaweed so crisp! Safe to say, I'll be back here if I'm every visiting in the area again.

I first came to this restaurant years ago during its soft opening and it instantly became one of my favorite spots... there have been ups and downs since then with quality, covid, and ownership change. I went recently this past week and am pleased to say the fish quality is truly at its best. Everything melted in my mouth and I had to even go back for seconds of some nigiri. If you're going I definitely recommend going for the hangry because the final 2 rolls make the experience 12/10.

If you're a sushi lover, you HAVE to check out Nori Hand Roll Bar. Chef Deuk knows his stuff--he serves up the freshest fish around, and it really shows in every bite. The vibe of the place is perfect too, with a cool, laid-back atmosphere that makes it feel both upscale and cozy at the same time. The omakase menu is the real star here. Each piece is perfectly crafted, with flavors that just work together in the best way. Chef Deuk puts so much care into everything he makes, and you can definitely taste it. Whether you're a sushi pro or just getting into it, this spot is an absolute must. Can't recommend it enough!

Ask the Community - Nori Handroll Bar

Since they don't take reservations, should I expect a wait on Saturday night dinner time (if so how long)?

we had a group of 5 last saturday and we waited 15-25 mins!

    Does nori offer omakase?

Yes. When their dining room is open

    Does this place take reservations?

    No they do not.

Is this place like sugarfish in LA?

It is similar to KazuNori (also part of the Sushi Nozawa group) in LA, but personally, I think it's better than KazuNori.

Our table was seated directly beneath an air vent that was actively dripping water. During dinner, the water repeatedly dripped onto me. After notifying the staff the first time, they simply wiped down the vent while food was being served rather than offering to reseat our party. When I brought the issue to their attention a second time, the response was the same; they wiped it down, but the dripping continued throughout the remainder of the meal. For a restaurant at this price point, I expected a more proactive solution and better attention to guest comfort. Additionally, our group ordered the Demon Slayer 300 mL sake, priced at $55. After pouring the sake, our server, Adonis, took the bottle away with him, even though we understood that the bottle was intended to remain at the table for our party. This added to the confusion and frustration surrounding the overall experience. As a first-time guest, I was looking forward to an enjoyable dining experience, but the lack of attention to these issues left me disappointed. While the food may have been enjoyable, the service and handling of these concerns fell short of expectations, particularly given the cost of dining here.

Sushi Bar Dallas…read more Omakase at Sushi Bar Dallas is an incredible experience from the moment you step inside. The room is intentionally intimate and very dark, with an industrial ceiling where pipes climb 20+ feet above, signaling you're in for something far from a traditional sushi bar. My only gripe came at the front of the house: the initial greeting and the rule explanation were a little too demanding and elementary for someone who is tired and paying a significant amount of money for a sushi dinner. Put the rules in an email, text and on the website i'm not in 4th grade. The hostess was pleasant, but she seemed a bit robotic in doling out the rules of the evening. The line-up system, where you wait your turn and have your name called, feels odd and reminds me of the times I visited my friend in prison and the guards lined us up against the wall by our names before they took us to the room with inmates. Uncomfortable but I do follow most rules and there was a reason for the lineup that becomes clear as you settle in. Next she takes you down a dimly lit, narrow wooden staircase and you land in a basement sanctuary of omakase heaven. Our hostess knocked and the door opened to a room that felt specially curated for this meal. Each guest found their name written in gold on a sign on the sushi bar where you are suppose to sit. The chair was a very comfortable leather chair. Each gold written name plate, marking the guest order she placed us in upstairs. My seat was at the center of the sushi bar, perfectly positioned to capture video and photos of both chefs in action. From the start, we were told we'd be eating with our hands, a nod to traditional Japanese dining. The chefs staged 17 courses with the precision of neurosurgeons, walking us through every nuance from the provenance of the seafood to the section of the fish we were eating to the age of the barrel aged soy sauce. Not a detail was missed, and timing felt both deliberate and urgent in all the right moments. The father, Jose, was laid-back and effortlessly in control, while Leo, Jose's son, emerged as a true partner in the kitchen, their dynamic reminiscent of watching a masterful, living artwork take shape. The two moved back and forth with a rhythm that felt like a collaboration at the highest level, each dish placed neatly on a flat stone in front of each of us. They would then announce with pride what we were about to inhale and wait in anticipation of our response. It was clear they take tremendous pride in their craft, presenting edible masterpieces that felt almost ceremonial. Too keep everyone happy with the time in between dishes there was an endless supply of a pickled salad that I could not stop eating. As for a favorite course, it's hard to pick one. Each bite built on the last, and the whole sequence felt cohesive, an immersive set from tartare hand roll, to Shima Aji, Madai, Uni my favorite, Hotate, Masu, Hirami, Hamachi, Bincho, Kinmedai, and something I have never heard of Zuwaigani, followed by the best Waygu I have ever had in my life and ending with a passion fruit sorbet with activated charcoal crumbles and toasted crispy coconut, I don't like coconut and I ate every bite. The pairing of technique, seasonal seafood, and f#%king great seasonings left a lasting impression or as my wife says, "my husband has food memories." If you're considering a visit, go with an open mind, a willingness to lean into the pace, and a camera ready (flash off it's one of the rules) for the moments when the chefs' artistry shines. The father-and-son team of Jose Manuel Tapia and Leo deliver something rare: not just sushi, but a storytelling meal where every plate is a page in an ongoing, delicious epic food story. At the end they will make you additional food for an additional price but it's worth it. They then walked us over to a very nice bar with a great vibe and old school Dazz Band playing like I was in a time machine and it was 1982. Great place, great food, great vibe. Be ready to drop $300 plus per person tip is included but you will want to tip the sushi chefs something extra.

I want to start there because the Japan trip is directly relevant to this…read morereview in a way that will become clear shortly and also in a way that is deeply embarrassing and I have made peace with both of those things simultaneously. Japan was extraordinary. The food was extraordinary. The trains were extraordinary. The trains specifically deserve their own paragraph because I have never in my life encountered a public transportation system that operates with the precision and quiet dignity of the Japanese rail network. Trains that arrive at the exact second they are supposed to arrive. Trains that leave at the exact second they are supposed to leave. A whole society of people moving through stations the size of small cities with calm purpose and zero visible distress, consulting their phones, reading books, buying things from vending machines that should not logically exist inside a train station but do because Japan has decided that convenience is a human right and I agree completely. I tell you all of this to explain what happened at the train station when we tried to find pizza. Now I know what you are thinking. You went to Japan and you tried to find pizza. And yes. Yes we did. We had been eating spectacular Japanese food for several days running, food that made us question every culinary decision we had made in our entire lives up to that point, and then something happened in the group dynamic that can only be explained as a collective temporary insanity and somebody said what about pizza and instead of saying no we are in Japan and there is yakitori available within forty feet of us at all times, everybody said yeah okay pizza sounds good actually. The station we were in had approximately forty seven exits. I counted. Not all of them. I counted forty seven before I gave up counting and simply accepted that exits were infinite and directional signage was a suggestion. We had been told the pizza place was near exit B14. There was no exit B14. There was a B4 and a B41 and something that might have been B14 but was labeled in a way that required a level of kanji literacy I had not developed in the forty eight hours since landing. We walked for twenty two minutes. We passed the same Family Mart three times which I know because the same employee was stocking the same shelf each time and by the third pass he looked at us with an expression of gentle recognition and what I can only describe as compassionate pity. We never found the pizza place. We found a ramen shop instead and ate the best bowl of ramen of our collective lives and agreed to never speak of the pizza incident again except that I am speaking of it right now because it is directly relevant to the fact that when I came back to Dallas and needed Japanese food that did not require navigating a forty seven exit train station, I went to Tei Tei Robata Bar on Henderson Avenue and everything was immediately right with the world. Tei Tei has been on Henderson Avenue since the late nineties. Founder Teiichi Sakurai, who is also the man behind Tei An which if you have not been to Tei An please go immediately after reading this review and before doing anything else in your life, has been a James Beard semifinalist six times which is the kind of number that should be printed somewhere more prominently than it currently is, like on a highway billboard or possibly the side of a building. You walk in through a Japanese garden to get to the entrance. A Japanese garden. In Dallas. On Henderson Avenue. Between a taco place and a bar with a patio. I walked through it after the forty seven exit train station and my blood pressure dropped twelve points immediately and I have no medical evidence for this but I am confident it is true. Robata is the traditional Northern Japanese grill style. Wood charcoal. Low heat. Slow intention. Things arrive on skewers that have been coaxed rather than forced into deliciousness. The miso sea bass is the kind of dish that people describe by going quiet for a moment first. The cornflake shrimp is a thing that should not work as a concept and works completely as a reality. The daily special comes out in three parts, raw, robata, and more, and each part is a small argument for why you should be paying better attention to what you eat every day of your life. The sashimi sits in a case on ice near the kitchen and you can watch the chefs working with a calm precision that is genuinely meditative to observe, like a train system that runs on the exact second it is supposed to run, quiet and intentional and doing exactly what it is supposed to do without any drama about it. I sat at the sushi bar and ate things I will not fully describe because some experiences should be discovered and not spoiled. I thought about the ramen we found instead of the pizza we were looking for and decided that getting lost is sometimes the whole point.

One of the better places to enjoy yakitori. Love this place when we have the Time services those…read moregood make sure you make reservations. It fills up really fast, especially during the weekdays a lot of business people like to enjoy cocktails. Very sleek and clean and quaint place. The bar is very nice. Always have a good time when we're here
