The Kohala pizza was so very delicious! We split this with a Pele Poke salad and were so happy with our choices. We've visited the Kona location several times over the years and were glad to find this hidden gem on Oahu. Beer is always fantastic. Our server was very attentive and friendly. After a short time, we were sat in an area that overlooked the marina and were immediately taken care of by the wait staff who were friendly and attentive. The food was very good, as well. I'll start with the good, because there's not too much. Music was killer, late 00's-early 10's and the food was phenomenal! Now for the honest truth. I have not felt more UNWELCOME and UNCOMFORTABLE in a brewing company. My waitress called me a lady on multiple occasions despite being corrected I was not a lady but in fact a male. She also was the one who checked my ID so the fact the repeatedly continued to call me a lady made me completely distraught..I watched her top off water cups by completely picking up the cups of each person at a table near us, then proceeded to come over to our table to top off my fiancée and I's water without sanitizing her hands from the previous table. She then went to another table after ours to do the same thing of topping off water glasses by fully picking up each cup of every person without sanitizing her hands after touching our glasses. Talk about contact tracing between parties!! She came to check on our table once which caused me to have to continuously ask OTHER wait staff to get us more beers (which were all warm :"[ , the exact opposite of what I was looking for after a strenuous morning hike) and for extra condiments (at that rate I'm truly unsure why she was the one who deserved to be tipped on our check). I would not recommend this location to anyone on this island. No respect for basic human requests let alone for customers. While in Hawaii I had to make a stop by Kona Brewing of course! This location is located on the Eastern part of Oahu. This was a perfect stop for me after finishing a hike. The staff here was very friendly and although I choose to sit at the bar, I felt I has outstanding service. The bartender was super nice and we chatted for a bit. The beer selection here is fantastic and the beer I had was very fresh and flavorful. I went with the Kua Bay IPA since it was one of their only on the island beers. The beer itself was super smooth yet full bodied enough for me. I tend to gravitate towards beer with more of a deep spice flavor so this was great for me. Since I was hungry I ordered the pua'a pork tacos which came with a side salad. At the time the bartender didn't understand that I wanted the happy hour taco option which did not come with a salad but when he realized it he didn't charge me for the meal only the happy hour price. Again, a very thoughtful bartender. The tacos were filled with tender pork, cabbage, sweet pineapple salsa, then drizzled with a smoky BBQ sauce. The tacos were pretty messy but the I didn't mind because they were delicious. Overall if on Oahu I highly recommend a stop by this brewery. Not only is it an icon for Hawaii but it is also a great place to hang out or grab a bit to eat! read more

My friends and I come here often for the live music in the bar and, of course, to partake of the beer! I always order the sampler set (baby beers!!!)... it is so fun trying all of new/seasonal varieties. The view is beautiful and it's a great place for just a night out (movie theater is right there too) or meet up with friends. The dining menu has changed often over the years. I'm kind of hooked on the Porterhouse (French) Dip or their pizzas lately, but the everything is really yummy. Sadly, I still miss their papaya salad and the roasted garlic since they took them off the menu, but the roasted brussel sprouts are a yummy substitute. Go. Eat. Drink. Enjoy!!!! read more

I live in Hawaii Kai so I often find myself suggesting trips to Kona for dinner out. It has a good atmosphere, tasty beers and, lately, tasty food! While this is my first review of Kona, for a long time I had a draft just sitting in the queue complaining about how salty the food was. I really only came here for the atmosphere and the wide selection of draft beers -- by far the best in Hawaii Kai. Happily, however, I can now say that it's the total package. I don't know what specifically changed, but they've really upped their game recently and moved away from salt-heavy flavors to more depth and balance -- a very welcome change. The main event is still the beer, though, and I generally gravitate toward whatever seasonal beers they have on draft. I think their use of the word 'seasonal' is misplaced, it really should be 'experimental', and is the best thing about coming here. These are beers that aren't bottled, and that you can only get here while they're here, among the list of beers I've had: a Belgian tripel, mango saison (different from the commercial one, and waaaaaay better), scotch red ale, Vienna lager, the list goes on. Asking for the seasonal selection should be the first thing you do! For food, I seem to always get the fish tacos, which they now offer with mac salad! They're solid, not the best I've had (thank you, Tommy Bahama) but very solid, and improving! I also like the taro bun sliders. We were sad they got rid of the pretzel bites appetizer, but the pepperoni pizza rolls are a tasty alternative. I am, however, not impressed by their dessert selection, which is fine because that frees up calories for more beer! The other nice thing about Kona is the size of the restaurant. Being one of only two Kona brewpubs, it's in high demand, but the restaurant is well equipped to handle the demand, as I've never had to wait and always manage to get a seat on the water. Maybe I'm lucky, I don't know, but it's nice. Hawaii Kai, while nice, is still a suburban wasteland. Kona helps to ease that, and should be at top of one's list of Hawaii Kai restaurants! read more

Was excited to visit during our stay in Kona. Road our bikes over on a Friday afternoon excited to sit outside and enjoy one of their beers but we're told that we couldn't sit on the patio with our bikes despite plenty of room. You don't have to be a beer lover to enjoy Kona Brewing Company. We really enjoy the pizzas here. The Margarita pizza and Greek pizzas were delicious and the dough and crust have a fresh, soft baked taste and texture. What's also fresh are the vegetables that go in the mixed green salad, cherry tomatoes, nuts and onion with balsamic dressing. We also enjoy the nachos. We visited Kona for lunch. This is a great little place on the water inside the harbor. The staff was super friendly and the food was great! I had the Fish Tacos. Like the beers they have on tap here, deliciously refreshing. Came here after a nice short walk up the Makapu'u lighthouse trail, so we were thirsty. Got the Kalua pig nachos and tried the mango saison. The nachos were dry, I think they had it under a heater it seemed like, already put together and ready to serve. The taste was something that I could've put together, and wasn't that good. Obviously as a brewery they are high on serving beer. The beers, flight, pints, whatever seems on point. They have seasonal beers as well as the usual stronghold of beers they offer. Great service as well. read more

My hunnie surprised me on Valentines day by taking me out to dinner at Kona Brewing Company (we've been together for a long time so V-Day is NBD. lol) I've been to the Koko Marina location many times and I love the ambiance. It's right on the marina and a nice cool breeze comes through the restaurant. I normally opt for an outdoor seating right next to the edge by the water but it was raining this night so I didn't mind sitting inside. First off, our menu's (both of ours) were sticky. The pages were all stuck together and had gunk on every page... I was a bit grossed off. We decided our order but the waiter took awhile to come to our table... which is understandable because it was valentines day. About 10 minutes has passed and he came to our table to take our order. We ordered poke appetizer, a large brisket and kim chee pizza, and the Cubano sandwich. POKE APPETIZER - it was very delicious but a bit too spicy for me. The ahi tasted very fresh and the seasonings that they add to the poke was delicious. It also has avocado, ogo, white onions, and won ton strips. The menu says its market price... we ended up paying $20. A bit pricey for the amount of poke they gave... about 1/4lb. BRISKET and KIM CHEE PIZZA - wow, what can I say... this pizza was one of the best pizzas I've ever had! At first, it sounded funky but I wanted to try it... it's a must try!!! CUBANO SANDWICH - this sandwich had ham, kalua pork, pickles, and mustard on a chibatta (sp?) bread. You have a choice of kettle chips, mac salad, or Caesar salad. very juicy sandwich. I don't care for pickles and mustard but other than that, it was very delicious. Kona Brewing is known for their beer. They have an extensive selection of alcohol... I recommend getting the sampler so you can try different varieties. I believe on the weekends, they still have live music at the bar area... at the time, it can get pretty loud so don't plan a business dinner during that time... you won't be able to hear anyone. I haven't been here in years, but I have visitors from the mainland and they love locally brewed beer. We had a wonderful view of the boats and the canal area in Hawaii Kai. It was quiet and great breezes. They ordered a sampler set of the different beers and thought they tasted excellent. Most of us had burgers and they were very good on the fresh sweet bread. What made the meal was the (homemade?) potato chips with salt and pepper. Very tasty! The service was great as well. I do have to admit it is a little pricey, at $15.50 for a burger, but we all left satisfied. Enjoy! read more

My wife and I toured the brewery on the big island, so we decided to check out our favorite Hawaiian beer makers outpost on Oahu. We just happen to go on a very windy night. It was very cold for Hawaii so we tried serval different tables before settling on a table in the front the blocked out the wind. We started with beers, then I got a beer cocktail which was ok not great. Next we got chips and guacamole. In my personal opinion, corn should not be in guacamole. It's blasphemy and a blatant filler to bulk up this expensive dish. Besides that misstep the food is pretty good. But the star of the show is the great beers and good conversation. Pretty cool spot. I enjoyed sitting outside and gazing at the scenic views. After I was done gazing, I ordered the Paniolo Burger with Mac salad. The burger itself was amazing and the meat was crispy. I appreciated the bacon mmmmmmm. This next part is my personal opinion and the reason why I gave it a 4 star instead of 5. Great happy hour spot. Also a great place to come grab a beer and sit on the deck overlooking the beautiful marina. They have a wide variety of beers rightfully so as it is a brewery. This is one place that I frequently visit while in Hawaii Kai. I ordered the chicken nachos. These were one of the best nachos I've tasted. The order was quite large and topped with melted cheese, black olives, green onions, fresh salsa, and amazing quac! The quac had garlic and lime in it which made it taste even more delish. For my drink I hade a big wave. I can't believe I never tasted a big wave before! I think it's my new favorite beer. My friend order the sliders, they looked very tasty and were quite large for sliders. The staff are all so friendly and welcoming. We got the Macadamia nut crusted fish which was GOOD! The seared ahi was nice as well as the bacon sprinkled Brussel sprouts! Sitting outside right on the water definitely added to the experience. For laid back locals, novice touristy beer drinkers and groups. This place reminds me of the yard house in CA and Oahu on Lewers Street. All of the food is consistently good and decent quality at a decent price. No real taste-bud-busters... still you can feel safe ordering just about anything on the menu. The beers are delivered in a quantity of flavors over quality. Hawaii is still young in the brewery game compared to the mainland, but Kona is the mass produced beer of HI (like Budweiser). They're tried and true steady produced flavors are generally like their food- all around decent. But there's a lack of identity to their beer. Nothing that really says- this is a great, one of a kind brew. Things I've ordered by rank- 1) crab cakes (I like crab cakes) 2) fish tacos 3) pizza rolls Go check it out. Heads up! After a long ride and trek exploring the Windward Side (Eastern) of Hawaii, my girlfriend wanted to make a pit stop @ a local cafe while heading back to our AirBnB. Unfortunately, that cafe was closed during our visit. Fortunately, Kona Brewing Company wasn't.. so with a little persuasion and a few playful nudges, my girlfriend was up for a scope out of the Kona Brewing scene. She likes beer, so this made ya' boy very happy. As far as location, the establishment is right on the water tucked within a small bay overlooking Koko Head & a tiny community in eye distance. The views are impeccable as most seats here give you a decent view of the beautiful blue. During our visit, every bay window was open and exposed, allowing the soothing ocean breeze and salty fresh air smell to swoosh past your face and tingle your nostrils. Top that off with a plethora of flatscreen's throughout Kona & Sunday Football.. now I'm truly in a slice of temporary paradise! The only thing more refreshing at this moment would be... a beer! Scouring the menu we noticed plenty of options that are not offered to us back on the mainland. The only choices I've seen in SoCal are - Longboard Lager & Big Wave Golden Ale. I'm sure there are alternatives elsewhere, but I have yet to locate such a place. From red's to golden's.. brown's to IPA's, I was pleasantly surprised with the selection Kona Brewing had to offer. I'll note that the menu includes food / beer pairings to ease your selection when it comes to selecting a brew and food match-up. I went with a Castaway IPA that had hints of fruit (mango / passion fruit) and packed a light bite within heaps of hoppy flavors. Both crisp and refreshing, my body's natural reaction was to gently close my eyes and belt out a sublte, 'Ahhh'. We paired this with an appetizer: The Kawaihae Cajun Seared Ahi.. masking the overtly fishy taste that was expected, this lightly salted and seared Ahi was accompanied with a light soy and wasabi mustard. The condiments provided with this app complimented the fish just fine. Highly recommend this for a tastebud tingle! This app along with the brew packed a punch of flavors that assured me that Kona Brewing has a solid kitchen and a glorious tap that pours til the sun sets. Everything here was on point with minimal waiting. Our service was great, too, and my girlfriend and I were checked on - frequently & with a smile. Kona Brewing Company was on my list of 'to-do's / must see's'. I'm definitely glad we were able to experience a lil' bit of 'dat 'Liquid Aloha'! *Gift Shop is minimal with limited sizes.
