    Truck
    Akiko I.

    - Locale Destination - It's a food truck. I guess you can find them either FaceBook or Twitter. Everybody bought it with cash, so I believe CASH only.. Most trucks are like that. - Gluttony Expedition - - $3 for regular size and $4 for large size shaved ice. - You buy the shaved ice, and can pick flavors out of 10 syrups (you can pick whatever you like - there's a section with self dispensers). I think the syrups tasted a little thicker than normal Hawaiian ones. Interesting flavors. - The shaved ice is very chunky. I'm very spoiled by amazingly fluffy Taiwanese shaved snow :p So I'm not a fan of this. - They also have ice candy bars. - Conqueror's Deduction - It might be good for die-hard Hawaiian shaved ice fans or kids. But some Hawaiian shaved ice isn't chunky like this. So I don't say I don't like it. I just prefer the fluffy Taiwanese shaved snow. It's kinda cool that you can pour whatever the syrups you want by yourself, but that's about it. I'm not a fan of this "chunky" shaved ice.

I had this truck at an outdoor non profit event, so it was sponsored. I thought this concept was a good idea, especially the Shave ice machines has a top mold to make it fast to get the orders out. They have a bunch of syrup flavors to add yourself on the side of the truck. The ice came out finer than I had thought, but when you put the syrup the ice would collapse and it would almost become a slush. I think it was because they're not hand packing and shaping it. The syrup flavors weren't anything special, I think I'd rather have a Popd Up specialty syrup on there. Now, the big question that I was asked...does it compare to Hawaii? Matsumotos, Wailoa, or even any on da Big Island where my parents live. I'm going to have to say, not even close. For a hot day and getting it for free, it did the job, but it's definitely not the same as da islands. Props to the creator of this, he was able to franchise a bunch of these. trucks. My favorite is still Ululani's on Maui!

It tastes the best. Better than ice cream. I got the combination of cherry, coconut and vanilla. I liked that it uses natural ingredients.

We paid for the shaved ice on Saturday, and it was such a hit, we ended up paying for more so we didn't run out.

I was slightly surprised that the price is close to $7 for a single scoop of ice cream on a cone, I guess I'm used to those days when ice cream used to be a dollar, but what I did appreciate was that they offered to put it in a cup for us because the portion they give is so generous that it doesn't fit on a cone. I actually wanted something a little healthier when I went so I chose the no sugar added pistachio, which was so good so creamy so delicious and full of pistachio nuts. I'm aware that there are other options nearby such as Dairy Queen at less than half the price of this, but if I had to choose again, I might still come back to Handel's because the single scoop could almost be enough for two people. We went with a few other families and none of the kids could actually finish their ice cream cone, which is actually good because that means you can share. The shop is especially good if you're planning to watch a movie at the Regal Cinema just next door.

The service was good and really quick, and the place is super chill. The menu of the ice cream place is also very extensive, so you can get a multitude of interesting flavors! I got the s'mores one and it was super delicious, with a graham cracker base, chocolate chips and gooey marshmallows. It was also super creamy and flavorful! The blueberry cobbler one is rich with that blueberry flavor, kind of like a blueberry pie. And the strawberry sorbet was not too sweet and refreshing and it's dairy-free. If you're looking for a sweet treat and don't mind having more than one scoop, go to Handel's!

I've been here twice now and tried about five different flavors total, and every single one was gross. The Experience: * Bad Flavors: On my last visit, I actually had to ask the worker to swap my flavor because I was convinced I just got a "bad" one. The second flavor was somehow even worse. I didn't even finish it; I just threw it away because it was that nasty. * Texture & Taste: It tastes like watered-down diet ice cream. It lacks any of the richness or flavor you'd expect from a specialized shop, especially for how expensive it is. I wouldn't even go back if the ice cream were free. The Location Trap: This place is right on 17th Street next to Sidecar Doughnuts and Pop Pie Co., which is a great, convenient location. I think people only go here because it's a "cool-looking" spot to stop at while driving to the beach or grabbing a donut next door. If it weren't for the location, I don't see how they would stay in business. Final Verdict: Don't be fooled by the convenient location or the surrounding shops. The ice cream is truly disappointing and definitely not worth the price. I won't be coming back ever.

We ordered three things; mint chocolate chip, rose, and milk and cereal. All with a bubble waffle cone. The service was disappointing, the guy who worked there seemed like he didn't care and it was just another job. No life to him and was just rude about asking the code for the bathroom. The mint and chip is basic. Nothing too much about it. My kids like it, so I got it. Average 3/5. The rose ice cream tasted like a rose, it was pretty good and very floral. The disappointing part is I was hoping the ice cream would be shaped like a rose as depicted on the picture. Nope, just a scoop and left it as is. 5/5 for taste and 0/5 for presentation. The milk and cereal one was actually pretty good. Especially with Frosted Flakes in it. It literally taste like cereal. 5/5. I would give it a higher star if the service complimented it and th presentation of the rose ice cream did.

Except the drink that was waiting for me was noticeably smaller. Like, significantly. I'm estimating around 12oz. Was it delicious? Yes. Was it worth $9+ when $9 used to mean at least 16oz? Not for me. I get that prices have gone up everywhere. That's just life right now. But the menu gave zero indication that the size had changed, and that's the part that stings.
