First time going and at first look the atmosphere was nice, the place is clean . The staff was nice but a bit slow to serve us. The seafood was great but the lomo saltado meat was a bit hard. Close to the end of our dinner one of the guests in my party almost swallowed a broken piece of a handle of a cup that was in her meal(ceramic or porcelain) We brought it up to the staff they said sorry but did not go out of their way as it is a common practice with restaurants to give a free desert or a discount in our bill. When I brought it up to the staff one if the female severs let out this huge laugh as if to mock me. It made me feel horrible. So for this visit from us it was not a good experience. A few years ago I enjoyed a great meal at this restaurant, but I haven't been back as it's a little pricey compared to Suviche down on Las Olas. But tonight, I ordered takeout and I'm pretty happy about it. I ordered the lomo saltado which came with white rice and fries. My order was ready in less than 15 minutes. I noticed a few tables of people dining inside the restaurant but they were spaced at a good distance. The employees were wearing their masks and from the looks of it, following COVID-19 protocols. I was able to ask the waitress for corn nuts (which are always completely when dining in) for no additional charge. There was a sign posted to check your order before leaving. I quickly checked my order and saw that it was correct. My meal was still smoking hot by the time I got home. The one thing I noticed was the sauce from the lomo saltado was all over my fries. I was disappointed at first as I was planning on using ketchup, but to be honest, that sauce was great on the fries. The food was just as good as I remembered it being. I'll have to keep this restaurant in mind (especially for their weekly lunch specials) the next time I want lomo saltado. read more

Wow, this place is amazing. We stopped in for a quick bite before going to the movies at AMC next door. We had no idea it would be so good. I had the Lomo Saltado. The vegetables were roasted over a flame perfectly making them juicy, sweet and with a nice mild char flavor. The chunks of beef were delicious morsels of quality beef cooked perfectly. I'm super picky about beef, when I eat out, I'm hardly ever satisfied. At Konakai, I darn near licked the plate clean. My partner had the Ceviche and he said it was really good. The amount of the plates are ALL way too small and highly overpriced!!! The fish in the Ceviche was chewy and without taste. Horrible quality food stale and dry arroz chaufa with just 2 pieces of small shrimp. My mother ordered a Tallarin verde, which was also extremely small and tiny steak. After 1 1/2 hour of waiting for a plate of chaufa, my last hope was that it tasted out of this world. Well I was was a completely disappointed. the Arroz Chaufa was ver blend and had no flavor. I didn't know what to expect from a small restaurant in this not-amazingly upscale area of Sunrise. But - I was immediately blown away. It's small in there, but you can tell that the owners and staff take such pride to make everything beautiful and pay attention to each detail. The details from the decor, to the plates, glasses, and overall presentation are amazing. Then the food was absolutely excellent as well. WE ARE NEVER COMING BACK, bad bad service The chinese menu is good, the ceviche is bad. The service is REALLY bad! The waitress is very rude and she's always there, she pushes you to buy dessert, even when you already told her no. I ordered a chinese fried rice but noticed on a previous time that it comes with very few shrimp, so I asked for extra shrimp, she came back to ask how many shrimps I wanted in my plate as they charge $1 per extra shrimp, she was so loud the whole restaurant could hear her, She made a big scene.... then I ordered more sauce for another dish, and she told me I had enough on the table, again very loud and arguing with me, she told me mom the owner gets mad if she gives extra sauce!!! This woman destroys the restaurant, the other waiters are good and helpful and don't argue with you, but unfortunately she's always there and even if she's not your assigned waitress she manages to get involved in your business and ruins your meal. The last time we went, after a really poor service, they automatically charged us 25% tip... really?? for the worst service ever?? I order chifa (Peruvian Chinese food) for New Year Eves, the food was horrendous, I was charged $160.00 and the rice was not fried as supposed, I am Peruvian and I know the Chinese Peruvian food. We didn't even eat the food, the next day (as I pick it up late) I called and ask for the manager as not even 1 plate was acceptable, the manager was so disrespectful and even said I want to take advantage, even when I offered to bring the food back as the proof that nobody ate it. He stated we Peruvian are the ones the always complaint, but hello?! we Peruvians know how is the real Peruvian food. Be careful with this horrendous place. Remember in my original review I complained about only having an option to tip 18% or better and the overpriced, less than impressive sangrias? Last time I was here (the day my last review was posted), I told the server that I would be leaving her a cash tip after hitting 0% on the square app and she just smiled and said "ok." Well, since I love this place, here we are again less than a week later on date night. Imagine my surprise when my husband looks at the total and says "well they're expensive but at least the tip is included." To my dismay, I look on the receipt and sure enough they've included an 18% tip on the total. No biggie, right? But then why do they still give you an option to tip an additional 18% on their square machine AND why does the waitress not mention anything about tip being included when you tell her of your plans to tip in cash? It is outrageous to think of the fact that they are boldface unscrupulously getting a 36% tip, including from me on multiple occasions, on food that is already expensive to begin and with zero disclosure either on the menu or verbally. This is so upsetting and akin to theft in my eyes so I can confidently say they've lost our repeat business for good - as they should yours. read more

I can now say that Peruvian food is one of my favorite foods ever. Great cooking, menu, customer service. The only negative side about the place is that it's a bit small but other than that I recommended to anyone. Solid casual Peruvian joint with an emphasis of chifa cuisine. Must order the octopus appetizer as this was the best thing we tried during our lunch meeting. We frequent Konakai quiet often, even from their original location. Being Peruvian this has been the closest to the real thing. They have the best Chifa around, hands down.
