Love having a healthy fast food option! Reasonably priced, friendly staff, and has a drive thru for convenience.

I just paid $14 for a chicken burrito bowl- it was disappointing. I also ordered a regular lemonade and the total was $19 I have eaten here before a few times- it's been good and it's been meh - but I do not remember paying almost $20 for a bowl and drink.... anywho 1. I was shocked by the price 2. It consisted of maybe 1 T of guac about 1 dried out chicken tender a few tortilla strips and a tsp of tomatoes some beans and sour cream I think. The bowl was about 85% rice. I took a photo after I mixed up the topping, hoping it would hydrate the chicken a bit more. Although disappointed about the cost and what I received- decided to make the best of it and began to eat - 3 bites in I felt something odd... and pulled a hair out of my mouth. I really like Konala. I am not familiar with this chain, but they have a location in Coeur d'Alene and one in Post Falls. Maybe those are the only two locations? They do rice and protein bowls and salads, and their whole thing is "macros". It's supposed to be clean eating for people who LIFT. (They may not say it that way, but they have a literal crossfit gym in their Coeur d'Alene location). The food is really good, although I am SHOCKED. Absolutely SHOCKED that they don't have a "plain" option. This place is for "food bros", and food bros love things that are just seasoned with salt. I can't believe they don't have that as an option. So why 4 stars instead of 5? A couple of minor reasons. 1) They mess up orders. A lot. I always ask for my bowl with no sauce and broccoli mixed in. Half the time it still has sauce. Half the time the broccoli is on the side. 2) Some of the people who work here are GREAT. But some of them are a really mixed bag, they act like they would rather be ANYWHERE but here working. One person literally rolled her eyes and scoffed when I came back in to ask for them to remake my bowl with no sauce. 3) The price. I get it. "clean" food is expensive, but Konala is skirting the line where it's not any less expensive than a "better" restaurant. It also means I don't take my whole family to eat here. So nice to have a fast, healthy option. I stopped here (road tripping through) and didn't have a lot of time. The food was fresh and tasted great. The thing that stood out was the service. The young gal taking my order was friendly - welcoming everyone who came in and thank everyone as they left. The young guy who brought me my food made sure to smile and thank me for coming in. In a world that's full of high volume unhealthy fast food joints... this was a place worth stopping at. We tried the poke bowl and the steak Greek. Both were great. The interior is a touch sparse, in terms of tables, but it seems like they are working on it. Fresh paint and very clean atmosphere! There are even family pics on the wall. I mean it was fairly tasty, but soooo expensive, and when I asked what was in the sauce I found out they use SEED OILS! This is not healthy food. It may be marketed that way, but seed oils is not health, it's disease causing poison for the body. read more

I usually really love this place but I'm so disappointed today. I got orange chicken.. I specifically asked them if the chicken was thigh meat because I won't eat it and they reassured me and told me no it's all white meat... the second I opened my bowl I knew. After looking at this, I literally won't even eat one single piece of this meat in this bowl. It is the most dark veiny chicken I've ever seen and I'm so sad right now. I had never been here before, so I went in with an open mind. The best way I can describe it, is think of Chipotle, but with healthy food. Everything is gluten free. You have an option of proteins and starches in a bowl with plenty of veggies. I got the teriyaki chicken bowl, but I substituted the marinated cucumber for the broccoli. The meat was plenty tasty. The veggies were cold, which isn't a bad thing but not something I was looking forward to on a January night. The place was clean, and the staff was friendly, especially since I walked in pretty close to closing. All in all, if you're looking for a healthy alternative to fast food, this place could fit your bill. read more

First time in and the girl taking our order kept walking away and making us wait to ask questions about the menu. We finally ordered 4 full sized signature bowls and 2 of them came out as mini bowls. They were not listed as a mini bowls, and when we inquired about the size, the girl who took our order noted that this is the traditional Hawaiian size for poke. nothing on the menu noted this tradition, just felt like they were being cheap. The broccoli on the other larger bowls was steamed from frozen and the rice/salad base was so weak on the poke...probably less than a 1/4 cup. She also offered everyone water around us except our family. That was awkward. Felt pretty sad when we left that we wasted a lot of money on such a crappy meal and experience. Just alright. Wish I could've given this place more stars! We went inside, the ambiance was not there, cold and dingy. One of two booths was still dirty. For $16 I wish the portion of the bowl was 25% larger, amount of shrimp was perfect but more rice and mango salsa would have been nice. Lime crema was underwhelming. I'm super pregnant and didn't want to make dinner and I was torn between going here and surf shack (they're across the street). I'm glad I chose to go here and my family really enjoyed our food. I got the beef and the kids split the teriyaki chicken. I do agree with some of the other reviewers about the portion size being a little small for the cost. I wanted to try out this place as I saw they had a vegan option. The vegan option is tofu with shredded carrots and cabbage over a base of your choice and a sauce drizzled on top. I got brown rice as my base. It didn't seem like it would be enough variety in the bowl so I had them add roasted broccoli and avocado. It came to $17 and change with the additions. It came in a plastic covered bowl with a plastic fork. The food was mediocre even with the added items. Without the added items, it definitely would have been a boring and mediocre dish. $17+ seemed expensive for what it was. I can get much better food elsewhere for around that price. I get that it's fast casual dining but at that price, it should taste better. That should have been a $12 meal at most even with the additions. In fact, they really need to give you more than shredded carrots and cabbage as your veggies. It's just not enough and it would not satisfying. But here is the weird part - the man behind the counter asked me if I wanted something to drink and I said I'll just have a cup of water. He told me he could get me bottled water and I said I just wanted a cup of water. I could see that they had cups and there was a sink with a faucet. He said he wouldn't give me water in a cup. I almost walked out at that point but I wanted to give the food a chance. He was polite but it was just weird. I am in my 60's and I have never in my life been told I couldn't have a cup of water with my food in any restaurant in my entire life. If that is a policy at Konala, they really need to rethink that policy because that is beyond absurd and is a horrible customer service policy. I like their food however the inconsistency each time I visit continues. I order the same bowl every time which includes extra meat and they dud not put in the larger bowl as usual. When mentioned to the employee, I was informed I was incorrect. Although I order the same often. Not sure i will continue to return as I again feel shorted on my order. read more

I downloaded Yelp just so I could give this place 5 stars! The food was absolutely delicious. The portion for the protein was more than I had expected (it was perfect) and perfectly cooked. The service was absolutely amazing and quick! Everyone was so nice. I'm constantly on the go and I'm new to the area so it was nice to find a great healthy alternative to fast food!
