Seafood bibimbap and Korean tofu soup
    Marthin M.

My friend and I personally really liked the food. It was super filling and came in a timely manner. Honestly I liked how their bibimbap wasn't too burnt at the bottom because I've had that problem before. But overall the ambiance was good and the environment wasn't too busy so it was a perfect place to catch up.

One of my top spots in U-District. I absolutely love their soft tofu stew and I usually go for their beef bulgogi. All their food is high quality and the service is fast. You really can't go wrong with this place, it's so delicious.

I crave their soft tofu soup when I want something hot. Good portion sizes pretty filling. Service was as expected pretty decent and friendly. Nice warm feel to the place and dishes.

I came here after being out in the cold and the soup was so comforting!! When we arrived around 11, it was pretty empty but quickly filled up within the hour. Service was fast and I think we received our food within 15 minutes! I wanted to try something new and ordered the ham, sausage, and cheese soft tofu soup ($13.49) at a medium spice level and was so glad I did. It was yummy and is definitely filling (I had leftovers to take home) so I felt it was pretty worth it! The seafood pancake was also crispy and really good too. I wasn't too hungry, but my friend got the tofu and entree combo and also said it was great for the price! I will say the ban chan didn't impress me but I did like the variety. I would be interested to come back for the soup again!! They had some flavors I had never seen or tried before such as gut, fish roe, and octopus! The prices are also affordable.

this place was not too bad! i came here because i was craving korean food and this place is not too pricey. the restaurant is pretty small, some of the tables are close together but it wasn't a problem since it wasn't that crowded when i ate here. our food took unusually long to arrive (i would guess about 25 mins?) and i was disappointed because they didn't at least give us the side dishes first. the food was pretty good but i was disappointed by the seafood pancake, which was not a crispy as i hoped. everything else was pretty good but nothing blew my mind.

Super solid Korean spot near UW! It's on the edge of the Ave so it's a little easier to snag a street parking spot. The ambience isn't the greatest and it can feel crowded, that's the only reason I've knocked down a star. The food itself was delicious! Not the best tofu soup I've ever had, but their banchan side dishes were tasty and we really enjoyed their other dishes such as bibimbap and their jajeongmyun. If you ask the staff they will also refill your side dishes. I'll definitely be back!!

Good, affordable place for students looking for a cozy meal. I got their regular tofu soup which was flavourful, and really warmed me up during the winter. Service was fast and the restaurant is clean. There aren't that many side dishes as options but for the price point, it was definitely good value.

Tofu Soup & Hot Stone Bibimbap Combo

My go-to Korean spot in Seattle. Their tofu/bowl combos are great for a double meal. The tofu in the soup is so soft and jiggly. The mild isn't too spicy. I like to let the bibimbap sit a little longer so the rice is crispier on the bottom. Lots of veggies and unlimited side dishes. I think they may have the best macaroni salad ever.

Honestly my favorite tofu house on the ave. Attentive service, great sides, and tremendous value with combo portions and price. Banchan includes macaroni salad, beansprouts, fish cake, radish, kimchi, and potatoes. They're always willing to refill these too and that's a big advantage here compared to another popular spot on the ave which sometimes refuses. Could Kong be improved? Definitely, but it's my preferred tofu house around the area with consideration to service, location, and value. The taste is good but not crazy exceptional, so if you are picky or super judgmental about your Korean food, your mileage may vary. We all basically got Bulgogi or Chicken Teriyaki combos - they're simply our favorites. As combos, they don't skimp on either the meat or tofu soup either. It's the same as if you were to buy them separately, so I will again recommend the combos. Tofu soups are hearty. Meat and rice are tasty. Beef and chicken are tender but the biggest drawback is that they don't pile on the onions here. That's not a big concern, but onions are delicious especially when they caramelize with the meats.

This is one of my favorite Korean restaurants in the area! I love all the dishes and the service is great! I haven't had a bad experience here at all. Their tofu soup is bomb. I recently had their black bean noodles and it was so yummy! The portion was huge too, so I was able to take some leftovers home as a second meal. :) the ambiance feels pretty chill and homely. I can't wait to try more of their dishes!

    Hot stone Bibimbap...
    Barb R.

We've eaten here a handful of times and have always had a consistently, good experience. I'm still learning about Korean food and the servers are very nice and helpful when I have questions about different dishes. On this visit I upgraded to the hot stone Bibimbap, which is served in a sizzling hot stone bowl. The bottom layer of rice gets nice and crispy so it adds a slightly different texture to the dish. This was the first time I upgraded to the hot stone. I think it was only $2 more and in my opinion worth it. I ordered the chicken and my husband ordered the tofu and we both loved it. The Bibimbap also comes with six small dishes of sides (Banchan). I love the macaroni salad and the pickled radish. This place is filled with Korean students which is always a good sign that an ethnic restaurant is serving authentic food! I will add that while the prices are a good value for what is served, this is a step up from some of the cheap student food places on The Ave. Not a fancy place, simple décor and tables, but clean and good service! I love to come here on a rainy, Seattle day. Comfort food! As a bonus, we always stop at Magus Books next door to pursue their used book selection. Magus is a throw-back, old-school book store and worthy of a review of their own. Always find a treasure of two there.

Came here for dinner and ordered a combo. Maybe I ordered the bad dishes but the bibimbap was just not good. Everything in the bowl didn't feel like it didn't belong together and it just didn't taste good. This is the reason for the lower review. The soup was pretty typical, nothing really special but it was the best thing I got. The side dishes also weren't that good. Everything came out decently quickly and it was inexpensive.

I used to go to the Kong Tofu House in Edmonds, but that location is now closed. I decided to try this location instead. Depending on the time of day, parking may be difficult to find since it's all street parking off the ave, so be prepared to walk. The menu at this location is pretty extensive and there's a wide range of items and combos. I ordered a soondubu and bulgogi combo. The bulgogi was well-cooked and flavorful and the soondubu was boiling hot. In the combo, the soondubu bowl is smaller than if you were to order just the soondubu (depending on the restaurant, this isn't always the case. This wasn't a problem for me, but could be for others depending on expectations.) The restaurant is small on the inside and one person runs the front end entirely by themselves. Food arrived quickly and was hot, so I would definitely come back here again.

Teriyaki chicken that looks and tastes meh with no sauce. Maybe they forgot to pack the sauce for delivery. Pork soup was good.

The menu and experience differ between lunch and dinner, and this is my lunch review. Simply put, lunch is much more casual and affordable than dinner (You order lunch scanning the QR code at the table). If you're on a budget, you can eat lunch here for less than $20. I went here for lunch twice during my business trip last month and here's what I ordered: - Seafood Tofu Soup - $17.50 - A seafood soondoobu (순두부) with a generous helping of soft tofu, shrimp, mussels and clam, served with rice. Delicious, refreshing and not spicy-I bet they could make it spicy if you asked. I enjoyed the texture from the cabbage bits. - Seolleongtang (설렁탕) - $15.50 - Oxtail bone broth served with potato starch noodles and brisket, comes with salt and green onion already added(typically doesn't at other Korean restaurants). High-quality ingredients and flavor, a great comfort food with a generous serving of brisket. - Shaved ice dessert (빙수) - $9.00 - A great combination of cinnamon, ginger cream and fried rice puffs. Delicious and different than other Korean shaved ice desserts I've had that typically have red bean and overly sweet ingredients. If you're on the fence about coming here, maybe try out lunch first. Lunch is more casual, affordable and simpler than dinner, but is delicious and high-quality. You should come here for dinner too, and I'll post about my dinners here soon.

I dislike the more common 'elevated' where a restaurant makes changes such as swapping meat cuts from traditional recipes to something wagyu without any added thought or creativity in the process. Not at Paju. They are Koreans elevating Korean dishes. The dishes are refined and well-honed. Their creativity shows they know what they are doing. Plating is thoughtful. The restaurant itself is modernly elegant, great for date nights. Note the restaurant is quiet and elegant; perhaps they have a private room for loud celebrations. Staff was helpful with my questions. Food was available in a timely manner. The Food: Octopus, $27 - 5 Stars Served with smoked trout roe and dashima beurrie blanc sauce, this dish is visually attractive and absolutely delicious! One of our top dishes of the night. Paju Fried Rice, $27 - 4 Stars Cooked with kimchi, bacon, squid ink, and quail egg, this dish is one of their most popular dishes. I find squid ink to have a subtle earthy type of sea-umami flavor. The bacon and kimchi are a touch stronger in this combination. It's a good dish, but amongst our five dishes, this one ranked the lowest. Mushrooms, $23 - 5 Stars Served with parmesan cheese shaved so thin it's translucent, white kimchi, and truffle aioli, this dish is the bomb! Excellent for the mushroom lovers, it might convert mushroom haters, too. Lol. Another top dish of the night. Branzino Gui, $51 - 4 Stars Served with four banchan, this dish stands out for its execution - impeccably grilled and plated. The fish is very tender and perfectly cooked. I do think it is a bit plain for the price. Branzino is fairly common in different parts of the world. Ranked 4th for the night. Duck - 5 Stars Duck breast is served with a slice of duck and pistachio pastry plus four banchan. The duck is super tender. The pastry is clever utilizing other bits of duck meat. The simple sauce is very important, adding flavor to the pastry. Also delicious.

The staff is gracious, prompt, professional, and - I hope no one objects when I say this - rather attractive. Generous portions and reasonable prices for what you're getting. The food is nothing sort of legendary - bold flavors and dishes have the perfect balance of sweet, heat, savory, and umami. THE THORNS: None significant enough to mention. NEITHER ROSE NOR THORN: It is important to note that this place is insanely popular with the area's Korean community. The restaurant is quite busy Thursday thru Sunday, and significant waits for a table are likely. Monday thru Wednesday is your best time for going and getting a table without a wait. The price of some dishes, like their signature offering, Kalbijjim, might give you a pause ($80+). It is important to keep in mind this is made to order, and one serving can easily serve four regular appetites. If you're just a couple, you're definitely going to be taking this home with you. This is not a bad thing, as Kalbijjim is one of those dishes that is even better the next day and doesn't suffer from reheating. THE VERDICT: Daeho Kalbijjim is extremely popular, and it's not hard to see why. The execute authentic Korean cuisine pretty much flawlessly with efficient and charming service. What else to you want in a restaurant? Highly recommend. Just try not to go on the busy days.

The first time I visited, the quality of the meat cuts didn't impress me, and the soups lacked depth of flavor. I'm not talking about needing more salt--the broth itself just tasted flat. When you're paying close to $30 for a bowl of soup, I think it's reasonable to expect a higher level of quality and care to ingredients. The second visit was a mixed experience. To be fair, I was in the wrong. There is a clearly posted policy stating that your entire party must be present before being seated. My group was about seven minutes away, and since I had already checked in on Yelp and there were only two parties ahead of me with no one physically waiting, I asked if I could be seated and order while I waited. I had already been standing inside for about 10 minutes. I was told that although tables were available, seating me ahead of the other parties on the waitlist would be unfair. I understood the reasoning, but she had also asked prior for my order. Her explanation left me confused so i sheepishly said I understood the policy. She already seemed upset by the time i had gotten there. Sometimes we have off days i get that. This place is clearly hit or miss, I've got friends who absolutely swear by it. For me, though, it wasn't anything special and didn't justify the price. If you're looking for Korean food in the area, I've had better experiences with higher-quality dishes elsewhere, especially in Lynnwood.

Most recently I had the kimchi jigae, which was relatively spicy, even when I asked for less spicy (and they said they could accommodate). I'd say it was like 2-3 stars. Once they received their order, I heard the couple tell the sever that everything was very good multiple times- their food did look good! I recommend checking this place out especially with the new ownership. Menu looks similar from previous owners, but will for sure go back and try something else!
