This might be my favorite Kopps location in the Milwaukee area since it's clean and the parking is spacious etc. the outdoor area is also spacious though it is great for a group larger than 4. Just like the other Kopp's locations but this one has more seating inside AND this one seems to be a little quicker getting the food out to you and they do that without skimping on the quality. The burger even tasted a bit better and less greasy here than I've had at other Kopp's - not that any of the other visits were necessarily bad. Decided to try the cod fish sandwich - mistake! Such a thin piece of fish and hardly any tarter sauce. The bun overpowered the sandwich and left me feeling cheated and hungry that I had 1/2 of my partners burger. Kopps is about southeastern WI as it gets. It's a staple of every Milwaukee-metro-area inhabitant's diet. The words "What are the flavors today?" have been uttered by everyone within at least a 10 mile radius of a Kopps location. Kopps has unique frozen custard flavors, TWO of which are offered daily in addition to the standard chocolate or vanilla - usually, frozen custard places offer only one unique flavor of the day. This is a good thing because wjen they have terrible flavors like "red raspberry" or "cherry Garcia" or "spumoni," there's a good chance they'll also have something good like "tiramisu," "snickers cheesecake," or literally anything with coffee in it. If not, go for a malt. They're good. Besides having two flavors of the day, they also offer a sundae and a shake of the month. January's shake was Heath...which just so happens to be my favorite candy bar! I just had to have it. However, I was extremely disappointed with what I got. Where is the toffee flavor?! All I got was vanilla, chocolate, and for some reason...banana? I wish I would have just gotten a malt instead. A good ol vanilla malt never disappoints. This review is based solely on the frozen custard, shakes, and malts. I love cheeseburgers so much and Kopp's is anything but disappointing. I got a double cheeseburger ($7.50) doesn't include a side or drink, but man it was HUGE. I got "the works" which includes ketchup, mustard, relish, and fried onions. Lettuce and tomato were extra which I thought was kind of weird because they seem like burger staples. They also had jalapeños, bacon, etc for an extra cost available. Honestly though, it would've been delicious without the toppings. I still got a large root beer (not a generic brand, I don't remember what it was) which was delish! I also got fries. They have shoestring fries that were fried to golden perfection! After lunch I HAD to get frozen custard. One of the flavors of the day was wedding cake. It was amazing! Cake batter custard, frosting, raspberry, and sponge cake. This place is such a hidden gem. We ordered a hamburger and red velvet Oreo custard. Oh my god, the custard was so smooth, creamy and delicious. I love that it was not super sweet. The burger was cooked perfectly. It was very tasty but the buns were a bit dry. Their patty was in thin side. Would recommend getting double hamburgers. Lackluster - namely, it Lacks Luster in any form. We were heading out from Milwaukee towards the unknown, and couldn't settle on dessert by this point, so we defaulted to Kopp's. Everyone said this was the bee's knees, so we had to check it out. Sad to say, boring. In this ubiquitous landscape of premium ice cream shops, a holdover from the 1950's that hasn't changed much - if anything, really - in the last 70 years. Ever wonder what the first ice cream shop testing "flavors" beyond chocolate and vanilla was like? Kopp's is your answer; a prototypical museum of mediocrity, tenuously held together by the binds of communal necessity. The flavor of whatever it is I purchased - I think it was the cheesecake somethin' or another - was muted by the published ingredient of sadness; I had to have read that somewhere, I'm sure of it. I tried the vanilla as a saving grace, but was almost milk flavored if you can imagine that. Nevermind the sadistic bathrooms, where I had to press down the germ-ladened faucet button to summon water; upon release, no more water. There wasn't even paper towels in that place, so I had to wait to be released from that germ cage, unable to properly clean my hands. It's nostalgic, and I can tell why it would thrive in a place like Milwaukee, unlike Kansas City with too many premium options to make sense of any of it. In a pinch, Kopp's works: they're affordable, they sell cold stuff, and they're geared for speed. I guess that's all you can expect. read more

There is a wide variety of custard and we've tried the turtle sundae, strawberry shakes, strawberry shortcakes, and Oreo and it was all delicious! Great place for a huge burger. They were clean, organized, and very quick with our order (although it was busy). The outside seating is nice, but the inside seating is questionable, as the tables and seating arrangements are very strange and awkward. The burgers and fries tasted great and were filling. We tried the custard, which was pretty good, but still think Culvers custard is better. The bathrooms were small and not very good. Kopp's is a family favorite for many many many years. I honestly have probably been eating here for 20+ years and my parents far longer. I have been all over the world and I have never found any dessert even close to Kopp's Custard. I can't believe how rich and luxurious it is also, they have fabulous flavors that are extremely modern and classics like butter pecan and red raspberry, a personal favorite. But, beyond the custard the burgers are unbelievable. My dad travels the world and if he tells me he had a good burger the first thing I always ask is "Better than Kopps?" I don't think he's ever said yes. The burgers are gigantic and such a great value for the price, it's so big I always have to share it! Whenever I fly into Wisconsin, no matter how many days I'm there I make my way to Kopp's to get a burger with the works (fried onions obviously!). Also, they do not play with their grilled cheese! I may suggest that you add hot sauce and raw onions to your grilled cheese, it sounds weird but it's a game changer, my brother put me onto it. Honestly, you can't go wrong with anything on the Kopp's menu. If you LOVE Kopp's, I suggest checking out Elsa's on The Park downtown, they are the same owner and the food there is amazing. I usually go to the Glendale location this place is larger with an open feeling the interior was clean with plenty of seating both inside and out. They were putting on a new roof on the west side. We had burgers and cheeseburgers. Two orders had to be remade. The onion rings and fries were deliciously hot. We seen plenty of family's with babies. Too bad they didn't have any changing tables. I was in the area shopping at lunch time so I finally stopped by for lunch. The place is large and spacious to my surprise. The place looked clean and open. There was I mix of all age people so this appeals to everyone it looked like so they must be doing something good. I opted for the cheeseburger with ketchup, mustard, pickle and onion. It was the size of a whopper to my surprise. It's served on a toasted soft bun. The toppings were fresh and the beef was flat top grilled. I liked how the soft bun played with the crisp toppings and texture of the beef patty. I like how the cheeseburger had the right amount of sloppiness from the ketchup and mustard, not to thin but not dripping out in gobs really made the whole cheeseburger. This would be perfect after a night of drinking and totally hit the spot compared to the big chain burger places. Check your bag because there is absolutely nothing but your food in it and I mean no napkins, ketchup etc so it's up to you to leave with everything you need. If you have the cheeseburger and need to interact with people at work make sure you have napkins because you will need them. Im sorry that I can't speak on the custard at any of the custard places because I absolutely have no sweet tooth at all. Overall it's your typical custard burger, nothing spectacular but nothing bad. What's not to like? If you live in the greater Milwaukee area you've probably eaten here many times and have a shortened life expectancy as a result. But, impending diabetes and heart disease aside Kopps is THE place for custard and burgers. I like a regular cheeseburger with extra pickles. It's just the right amount of greasy. Malts are generally very "malty" which makes me happy. The custard is of course, famous and justifiably so. I will say that Leons may make a better vanilla but for all flavors Kopps does it best. The parking is abundant, the employees are kind, and the custard is delicious! They have a flavor combination for every taste bud! I have a friend who looks at the entire month's featured flavors and puts those days into her calendar so she makes sure to come in! I also like how there is a small wafer in the cup option! You can always bring home a pint or more of your favorite flavor! The custard is rich, creamy, and smooth! If you have a custard with toppings in it, it is abundantly combined!
