I've been looking for a solid, reliable Korean "bbq" restaurant near work for the longest time and I'm glad to have finally found this gem. Quotes around the BBQ as it's not the traditional, cook in on the grill yourself, raw meat KBBQ, they cook everything in the back for you and just bring it out. I opted for the $20.99 chicken & shrimp lunch special plate which came with some old rice, quarter cup of miso soup, and a couple bonchons. I was bit disappointed that the rice was old- usually at these Korean restaurants their rice comes out super fresh and steaming in those metal bowls- not the case here. I've been eating rice for 28 years now, and the rice was old- disappointing- taking 1 star off for that. Service was decent, the restaurant was packed with one empty table that had some dishes on it. The server asked if I wanted to sit outside- in this hot weather? No thanks sorry boss- so he let me sit at the table. I do wish he would have wiped it down first before letting me sit though lol- another star off for that. The chicken was chicken and shrimp was shrimp- generic teriyaki sauce. 3 stars as it was edible, high protein, and fully cooked. This was a great little discovery in Little Tokyo. Located on the third floor of Weller Court, Korea BBQ House serves a variety of bbq meats, fish, and shrimp. The dishes come with small sides such as a cold mash potato salad, soup, and bean sprout. They also have a few noodles and bibimbap. Upon arriving we were greeted right away and received very friendly service throughout our meal. It's not fancy or very modern and it's a bit warm inside, but it's a good size restaurant and to me it's the food that really matters. And this place surpassed my expectations. The bibimpap was amazing! It was served in a stone pot which is the only way I like it. I had it with beef, vegetables, noodles, and rice. The heat from the pot makes the rice crispy and yummy at the bottom with all that good sauce charring. Yum. I don't usually care for the sides but I did like the pickled veggies. When the bbq ribs came out it was like a little show with all that sizzly, smoky goodness. And the meat - OMG yes. So tasty. Forgot to mention that the broth it comes with on the side is really light and a perfect starter. My only disappointment was the alcohol choices. The side dishes were underwhelming, and the potato salad was particularly memorable because it's so mushy and bad. I liked the kimchee, but it's sweeter than what I'm used to. We ate outside, but they do have plenty of tables indoor. There is even a banquet room, but I don't know how often that's utilized for the mostly lunch crowd. Our waitress was unable to smile. What a fabulous little place! We were seated right away on a Saturday night despite it being packed. We had the 2 meat bbqs. I had Tri-tip & chicken. And he had pork & shrimp! They came with miso soup, rice, kimchi, bean sprouts, cucumbers and potato salad(the ONLY thing we didn't like). He loved his Korean beer. One woman severed the whole place and answered the phone! We had to call him over to food ordered. But this review is honestly about the food quality. The spicy pork was just fatty pork with spicy sauce slathered over it- which is not an authentic Korean dish. My dumpling rice soup was mediocre - the dumplings were all wrap and no meat. The shrimps tasted like Bleach for some reason but otherwise were fresh - just not marinated well. The kalbi was fatty and the tri tip was very chewy, hard to swallow. Water tasted funky too. I love KBBQ and I was extremely disappointed that they charge extra if you want more bonchon. The serving sizes are super small. I ordered the bbq beef plate with an order of short ribs and gyoza. The plate comes with soup, tons of veggies, kimchi, cucumbers, potato salad and some other sides. Was def a great bang for buck. The service was good also, very fast . Ordered and my food came out within 5 minutes eventhough it was a crowd. 10/10 recommend. Service on the other hand was absolutely horrible, it started out fine sat down and was given a menu as normal. When it was time to pay the waitress was absolutely rude, it took me 15 minutes to grab her attention just so she could take the card to pay but even through the eye contact and the constant hand waving she continued to ignore me, we ended up leaving exact cash on the table and leaving as time was ticking and we waited for so long. We stumbled upon this restaurant with hungry kids in tow and fairly low expectations. Quickly ordered and received 2 lunch specials: BBQ short ribs & BBQ beef and tofu soup. I found the food to be satisfactory and authentic tasting. I did like that they use a thicker meat for the kalbi instead of a cheaper restaurant cut. Also, I noted they only had 4 appetizers instead of the usual 6-8 small plates available at other comparable Korean restaurants. As for comfort, it is hot and stuffy inside as there is no air conditioning but they do have several fans going and the restrooms are fairly clean. Deducting a star off a solid 4 due to the fact they overcharged me by $7 or $8. Being in a rush, I didn't want to squabble over a few bucks.
