Everytime I crave Korean Cuisine (which is quite often), I think of Korea House. Not only for all the high quality food (for a Chinese girl at least) they serve, but also the welcoming feeling that the owner lady gave everyone. Let's try to make this review short....er. ***FOOD - AWESOME*** My absolute favorite are the little dishes of appetizers that they give you. And the best part is they are very generous with them too. Once they see that you are done with something, they will refill it for you. And then, it's the PA JUN. It's a Korean Style Pancake usually with ground beef or seafood with scallions. It's crunchy on the outside but steamy and soft in the inside. If you haven't had it yet, you are MISSING OUT! Lunch specials is the way to go. You get to eat everything you crave for a very reasonable price. Usually you get a bento box with rice, pajun, salad, a couple sides and gyoza, WITH a sizzling hot plate of meat of your choice. People usually like to stick to their usual but if you haven't tried their ToFU JIGE! Please order it upon your next visit. The rice in the stone bowl is REALLY GOOD TOO. ***SERVICE - GREAT*** They tend to get REALLY REALLY busy, so please be a little patient. They might not be as quick as you would like them to be, but they all seem to want to give good customer service from the heart. I think it's the influence of the nice owner lady. ***PRICE - Reasonable*** If you go at night, it can be a little pricey. But just remember that they give you a very generous serving so it's DEFINITELY WORTH IT. If you go during lunch hours and order the lunch special, then you're definitely getting a GREAT DEAL. ***NICE OWNER LADY*** Like everyone else I was wondering what happened to the owner lady. I'm sure every regular at Korea House can agree with me that all these years, it's the owner lady that made the place. Especially when she always says "SEE YOU TOMORROW" with a huge grin when you leave. I heard from a friend that Owner Lady retired and sold the place to her brother while she moved back to Korea. Great place for Korean food in Concord! Parking: Stalls located in front of restaurant. Lot can get busy during the day, might have to circle around a few times. Service: Good service. There were 2 waitresses for the whole dining area when we were there. Had to ask for refills for tea, but they gladly brought it Food: I ordered the spicy pork! It came on a hot sizzling platter! A place I been coming since college time and still have a special place in my heart because taste great! Many Korean restaurant don't have bowl of clear noodle with beef any more and this one still have them, spicy level just enough. I totally wish this place was in SF and not all the way in the frigging middle of nowhere Concord. This Korean place is seriously one of the best that I've had thus far in the bay area. My friend and I came here before heading to golf. It was my first time so I was pretty excited an hungry. Upon entrance, the Korean ladies were sooooooooooooo friendly. I felt like a child. They just kept waiting on us and making sure we were happy. A + for this. the lunch special was such a STEAL for the price it was we got a bento box full of little goodies. This is the first time that I've gotten a bento box as a standard supplement to my entree. It included japchae, salad, tempura, etc. (see photos). This alone already made my eyes glitter. Next the meat came out and OMFG. Good quality and bomb ass daejibulgolgi and short ribs. We killed everything and was stuff. Selling point about Contra Costa County? Korea House. After eating bad yuk kke jjang elsewhere followed by horrible bbq in the peninsula, I was ecstatic when my friend wanted to go to Korea House. Delicious and good quality Korean food? YES, PLEASE. Having tried other spots for Korean food in the area, this place is still the winner. Everything that I've tried there is delicious -- dduk bok kki, ojjingo bokeum, dduk mandu guk, soon dubu, jap jae, bulgogi, daejji bulgogi, kalbi, haemul pajun,kalbi tang, haemul jeongol... The service is great. Sure, when it's slower when busy, but just get down with that Korean holler and yell politely across the room for service. When I ask for something extra spicy, I get spicy! Only bad thing? No subac (watermelon), yakgurutu (yogurutu), shikhae (sweet rice punch), soo jung gwa (cinnamon drink), or melona (melon gum) for dessert (service with the bill). What a busy, bustling place this place was! Found myself in Concord one night with the BF on an errand and decided to have dinner at a new place. Korea House looked promising, with an average 4.5 star rating with 200+ reviews. I loved how "Mama San" came over to our table when she saw my BF pick up a sheet of seaweed and chew on it. I guess we weren't eating it correctly, haha. She showed us how to make different combinations and then wrap it all up to make a quick "sushi" roll. We ordered bulgogi too so she showed us how she likes to eat it wrapped in the lettuce leaves. Although the main entrees weren't the best I've had, I seriously enjoyed all the Banchan dishes!!! They were REALLY good! I especially liked the spicy sliced bell peppers and the salty spiced anchovies, I've never had them at any other Korean restaurant (although I haven't been to THAT many.. yet) What sucks is that a few reviewers mentioned getting a plate of japchae on the house. I didn't know this, because we ordered it off the menu as one of our entrees. I suppose that's why ours came with some bulgogi piled on top (see picture). I noticed that ours was the only one that had it like that in the whole place. I'm assuming it was to justify the fact we had to pay for it? Korean food is so heavenly. I love the Pan Chan that comes with it. There's nothing better than a million side dishes to spruce up the taste of food that is already so delicious to begin with! I ordered the classic bibimbap (beef, veggies, and egg over rice in a clay pot) and it was delicious. The server was attentive and friendly, the decor casual. I wouldn't say this is a romantic place, as the ambiance was pretty straight forward and functional. Korea House is always busy, but you'll get seated in a reasonable amount of time (Asian people typically eat fast and go!) so no worries there. All in all, good food and service. This has to be the best korean restaurant i've been to thus far. I hate to admit, but i'm one of those lazy customers who like to have their food cooked and prepared for them, especially if i'm coming to your restaurant to eat! So i'm not a fan of those korean "do it yourself" bbq places. We were a bit hesitant of trying this spot at first, but a friend of ours ranted and raved about this place, and so they took us here. We ordered the mushroom and tofu soup and the fried oyster for our appetizers. It cost $9.95 for soup which i thought was a bit pricey, but it was able to feed 4 of us. They were very generous on the tofu and the mushrooms, and the soup was very satisfying! Perfect after a long day of snowboarding. The fried oyster was also surprisingly delicious...the texture was not what I expected, and it went really well in this egg type batter. The sauce that came with it was also really good. We ordered the bbq beef entree which was $15, and it came with a ton of small side dishes (pickled cucumber, kim-chi, marinated garlic, anchovies, marinated tofu, mushroom, pickled bean sprouts, sea-weed wraps, a side of rice, and lettuce to wrap with, etc ). Although we only ordered 3 dishes, it left the 4 of us FULL and even better, the total tab was only $37!! They refilled our side dishes whenever we ran out, and "mamasan" was very friendly and came and checked on us frequently. You can tell she is a hard worker and was making rounds cleaning, hostessing, and refilling our plates the whole time we were there. For someone who doesn't even eat meat....i didn't even have to get my own entree, as I was full off the the appetizers and side dishes. I really also liked the fact that they provided us w/ seaweed wraps so you can make your own "sushi" rolls. How many Korean restaurants are in Concord? Not that much, but if you do find another, please don't wander elsewhere! Go here!! First impression: A bit confused. I'm used to walking in to cute little Korean restaurants with the whole asiany zen feel, but this place looked like just a regular asian restaurant. Well kept greasy per say. We got seated just before the big hussle on a Saturday Night. The lines get long - so come early! The owner is just way too cute. I love her spray-net'd hair. She always came by to check up on us to make sure we had refills of the side dishes and yes, she calls everyone beautiful and handsome in one language or the other. Food: The menu is decent. A tad more expensive than I'm used to, so I expected quantity - and quantity we got!! They give out SOO much side dishes it's remarkable. I was used to getting the regular, Kimchi, Fish Patties, zucchinnis but they had way more than that. I'm going to take a picture next time. . . they even had seaweed!! We made korean sushi wraps with the chicken. The bbq chicken was done well. Juicy, but nothing to rave about. The portions are HUGE. enought to fill us to the T and still have left overs for tomorrow. Lunch here is the best. :) The bento boxes here are a really good deal. I got the bbq chicken bento box for $7.95. They give you soup + salad for appetizer. We got mini dishes of seaweed, kimchi, bean curd, and anchovies. In your bento box, you get japchae, two pieces of potato, tempura, bean sprouts and rice. Then, your dish comes on a separate plate. They also give you your own water pitcher so you can refill your own water. Everything was delicious!! And you can always ask for your small dishes to be refilled. Overall, the service is nice and friendly. It's also pretty fast for a restaurant that's really busy and packed. I've been to several Korean BBQ places, and this place is pretty good! =) read more

Had a craving for Korean food and ended up here for lunch. Ordered the Dolsot Bibimbap (bi bim bap (rice, veggies, bulgogi pieces, egg) served in a hot stone pot). They call it Dol Sot Bap on the menu. Before this came out I was presented with a free plate of Jap Chai with my ban chan (the free side dishes). I was happy to see a full complement of side dishes even though I was eating by myself. I got a bit carried away and ate *a lot* before the main dish arrived!! What can I say? I'm a huge fan of cucumber kimchee!! :) And those little fish cake things (yeah, I'm an Americanized Korean with poor vocabulary) are yummie too!! Well, the food is delivered and the waitress asks how much hot sauce I want and then proceeds to mix up the bowl. I usually like to wait a bit for the rice to crisp up, but I sat back and allowed myself to be pampered. The pot was so hot that even when she was done there was still cooking going on. Nice layer of toasted rice peeling off the sides of the pot that I scraped out a few minutes later. True to form, the owner came over and showed me how to eat my dish! I was glad to see that she used fresh chopsticks for each table that she approached. I said 'Thank You' in Korean and she smiled, stopped her lesson, and said to enjoy my food. Haha!! I'm embarrassed to say I finished the whole thing, plus almost all of the side dishes, plus asked for a couple more small plates of kimchee to keep my sweat on . . . I sweat when I eat spicy food (my dad does too (bad genes) and he likes his food even spicier!!), but I love it spicy so I was wiping sweat off with my left hand and shoveling more kimchee and bi bim bap down my throat with my right hand. I'm sure some of the customers thought I was some kind of masochist!! :) Anyway, enough about my perspiration issues!! This is good stuff for when I feel like Korean and I'm at my g/f's in the Creek. I LOVE THIS PLACE. This is the place I always go to for Korean food. The food is amazing and the service is always wonderful. The very first time I ate here was with my family and my ex. We literally got there five minutes before it closed and I told my mom that we shouldn't eat here since that's kinda mean, but she went in anyway. Even though we got there so late, the staff was still super nice to us and didn't rush us or anything. We didn't know what to expect so we ordered way too much. What we didn't expect was all the side dishes and all the refills! We were all so stuffed afterward, we definitely learned our lesson. The owner lady came over to teach my ex how to eat everything (probably because he was the only one who wasn't Asian) and repeatedly came over to ask if he needed any help. It was also funny when we left and she said "See you tomorrow!". Since then I've eaten here multiple times, all during lunch time. I discovered that getting the lunch special here is AWESOME! It costs around $8 and you get soup, salad, a plate of your main entree, and a bento box containing rice, noodles, tempura, small pieces of potato, and bean sprouts. You also get side dishes with seaweed, kimchi, and fish cakes. I always get either bulgogi or spicy pork. Usually I get one of the two and whoever I'm with gets the other so we can just share (: Both taste delicious! They're both super flavorful and just PERFECT. I love that the pork isn't so spicy that you can't taste anything else like other spicy dishes I've had. The amount of food you get for the price is such a good deal. I accidentally came here for lunch one day, as I came to the plaza for Mediterranean food. But once I saw Korean food, my stomach was pulling me towards Korea House. Place was not that small.... had about 15+ tables. The waitress sat me to a table and handed me a menu. Made my order: galbi lunch special at $15.00. Not bad. There were about 3 waitresses. One came and gave me water. Sat waiting for my food for about 10 minutes. When I got my food, it was like a bento box style. It had the banchon, but in a bento box way. Not a picky eater so I ate the food, which was fine. After another 10 minutes, I waited for my meat. Got the galbi and they were ok. They gave a good amount. And I waited another 10 minutes. I heard the waitresses talking about stuff, which I didn't know they knew I was Korean and understood Korean. I finally had to ask for the check. Got it and then left. The food was decent, but it's your typical Asian restaurant. Good food but bad service. I've had way better korean food than this! I went on july 4 and they only have 2 workers when they should have hire more especially on a holiday. It takes forever to get their attention and it seems like only one of them does more of the work. their chapchae was HORRIBLE!! usually places put carrots, veggies, some meat. but this place its a small plate of noodles and only like two or three mushrooms and a few pieces of onion right in the middle. it was so not worth its price because i can just make this myself! their dukbokki wasn't even hot enough or spicy enough. it was quit dry and more of a orange color than a red color like it should be. Only waited a few minutes to be seated. Minutes later we had chopchei on our table! A few minutes into nibbling on our chopchei we had waters and banchan! The 3 ladies working the floor tonight were zipping around filling waters, taking orders, refilling banchan plates. Very impressive I must say! Was waiting for my window to be repaired across the street. I keep passing by this place at night so I decided to drop by. It is typically pretty dead here at night. This place was packed at 12pm. I took the last available seat in there. I ordered quickly. Food: Dolsop Bibimbap #10 ($13 after tax). Pretty good. Loaded with vegetables. Skimpy on the beef but I don't mind that at all. The sauce it came with can use a bit more kick to it. Well made overall. I'm always a fan of some good old korean bbq. if you've never tried the stuff some awesome first dips into the world of kbbq are: bulgogi - sweet shredded pork. they will bring it out on a sizzling cast iron plate and itll continue to cook in front of you. pretty delicious. kalbi - sliced pork, bone in. comes the same way. also sweet, but bigger pieces if shredded is not your thing. iced tea - i'm not really sure how to spell it, but they have this amazing ice korean tea there. its roasted barley i think? not sure. but it kicks waters ASS. try it out. kimchi - SPICY pickled cabbage. you can always ask for more. seafood soup w/ egg - this thing is delicious. DEF ask for the egg! a waitress will come around and crack the egg for you and drop it in the soup to cook. there are a million little appetizer dishes they bring you when you first order. little fish, potatoes, clear noodles, kimchi. they are ALL good. but my fave is the potatoes. if you want more, you can always ask. no charge. seafood pancake - thin pancakes with lobster and green onions. this is a great balance for the sweet pork. you see pancake and think of sweet, but its NOT. don't be fooled. read more

This place used to have fresh selections (even for the sides), yet when I last visited, the sides tasted a day old. Radish seemed to have a stale flavor to it. The eomok bokkeum seemed to taste old, but the spices mellowed down the seemingly fishy flavor. The kimchi was the best of the selection of banchan (sides) yet still wasn't the best. I ordered the bibimbap. It was okay, but a bit cold since it wasn't served on a clay or stone pot. The experience may be biased to just one event, but I hope that they return to using fresh ingredients and not day old ones. I had been obsessed with this Korean restaraunt in the Monterey Bay and was desperate to find a place that can live up to my obsession in the Bay Area. Went to a few places but found myself quite disappointed. One day, I took one of my guy friends out to lunch for his birthday and he asked to have lunch at the Korea House in the Park and Shop. I've always drove by the place but never really noticed it. BUT OMG. The food is just as good as the place I normally go to in Monterey. I don't like flagging down someone to ask for more rice or kimchee. I don't like asking to wrap up the bill by walking to the register. I've been here twice, before the renovation and new management. The new look is nice, and I'm glad they took out that small wall in the front where any unfortunate diners behind it would end up being forgotten (myself from my last two visits...) The delicious food doesn't seem to have changed much, aside from the dishes they were served on. I ordered the spicy cold buckwheat noodles and I loved it! Great for a nice warm summer day. I tried my Mom's short ribs and they were fantastic as well. My Mom usually dislikes Korean food but she loved the short rib bento she ordered. Both of my parents and myself enjoyed the various ban chan served to us, although the sardines were more salty than spicy last time we were there. The only negative I have would be the service. I miss the nice old lady (former owner?) that would always serve us with a smile and even explained to us how to eat with the seaweed strips. Now the waitresses don't even seem like they want to be there. I was not a fan of them just plopping my Mother's food in front of her, and being in too much of a hurry that they spill my soup in front of me. Overall, I give this place 3 1/2 stars. The food was just average, but I gave it 4 stars because of its price compared to other Korean places. We got lunch specials, which came with a bento box with some rice, potatoes, japchae, tempura, and salad. I got the dolsot bibm bap, which was pretty okay. Went here yesterday for a birthday dinner and it was great! We ordered a TON of food and our meal was very satisfying and enjoyable! The Tofu Mushroom Soup: This might be one of the best tofu soups I've had! I absolutely love tofu soup from Korean restaurants, but I've never tried it with mushrooms. It is SO GOOD. The spice level we got was regular, but it still had a bit of a kick to it, which I really like! The tofu is so soft and smooth, and the soup itself had a lot of flavor. The best part for me were the mushrooms. They were big, juicy pieces which add that delicious umami flavor to the whole thing. I could eat a whole bowl of that easily. Hot Stone Bibimbap: This was delicious too! They give a lot of veggies and a lot of meat. The crispy rice was perfect. The rice to veggies/meat ratio was about even, which is good. A classic dish. Banchan: The side dishes come with each entrée. I love these! They gave a wide variety of dishes, ranging from your standard kimchi to marinated potatoes. My personal favorites are the potatoes and the dried fish. Japchae: This one I was not so crazy about. It was good! The meat was flavorful and there was a lot of it! However, the noodles were a bit thicker than I'm used to. They were a little too soft and mushy for my liking. I'm not used to this, so this is just my preference. But the overall flavor was good! Overall, food is great and service was great! The food came out so fast!! By the time we were munching on the banchan, our main dishes already came out! I will want to go here again, just for the tofu mushroom soup. read more
