The Korean food was really yummy! My favorites were the spicy pork bowl and the cold noodles. Both had a lot of flavors and no complaints. The rice cakes were also really good. The cheese was melted the perfect amount with the sauce. I didn't really like the chicken katsu though because the amount of chicken to rice proportion was a bit off. I don't think it was worth the price because there wasn't that much chicken or vegetables. The service was average. We ran out of water and never had the water jug refilled unless we asked. The restaurant aesthetic and vibes are really cute though! Really good spot for a date, with friends, and with family. Love this cute shop that serves both food and groceries! The service was amazing, the ladies who worked there were hilarious and sweet. It was a really nice day so we opted to sit outside on the patio was was really cute, it felt like a little garden and had plenty of shade. I ordered an iced coffee and Naengmyeon for a hot summer day. It can be tough to find the cold noodles but whenever I see it, especially on a day like this, I make sure to order it. I have to say, I've never seen Naengmyeon look this beautiful before! There was a some froth at the top of it, which if you know me, I like anything with froth to it! The colors were beautiful and the flavor was amazing. They give you vinegar and mustard on the side if you want to add more. The iced coffee was good but my one and only complaint for this restaurant is the iced coffee was too much ice. I also tried some of the Pork Belly Bowl and the portions are very generous! I thought the flavoring was pretty good for that too. We also received some banchan and it was refreshing and delicious as well. After the meal, I did some grocery shopping and bought some barley tea. There were plenty of other things I was eyeing but maybe next tim! Came here for a late lunch on a Saturday and was able to get a table with no wait. I'd heard of this place before, but didn't know what to expect as a restaurant and market in one. For one, the vibe inside is great. The dining area has a very homely feel with warm lighting. Great for casual dining and a nice night out at the same time in my opinion. You're surrounded by a wall of Korean snacks and ready to go ingredients. I ordered the Dupp-Bop with Spicy Pork Belly. The pork was tender and covered in sauce that offered a nice kick. You get a decent portion of meat surrounded by fried vegetables on top of rice. While the dish tasted really good altogether, I found myself eating just rice a little sooner than I'd hoped. Maybe it's because I went for the pork a little fast, but I try to pace myself. At the end, the rice was a little too wet as well. Overall, I recommend checking out Korean Superette. We are from out of town and wanted to have Korean food before the Kings Of Leon concert at The Greek Theatre. I found this place on yelp and I am so thankful that it was not busy and it had such a relaxing vibe on the patio. It was such a cute surprise and I love all the ramen noodle displays. The food was so good and seasoned well. We ordered bulgogi with veggies and extra sides. It was everything that I was hoping for. I was craving Korean food for an early dinner and this hot spot. The pickle sides were so thoughtfully displayed and it also came with a nice hot broth with tofu. The service was excellent and the food came out right away. There were lots of people that were filling the patio on a Sunday evening. The patio is so beautiful. The music they played was so relaxing and the volume level was just right. I've been to the Korean Superette a few times, and early dinner is a great time to go when you can pick outdoor or indoor seating. Their outdoor patio is one of the nicest in Albany. Beautiful, lush, and peaceful. Today I had the fried chicken cutlet with curry sauce and it's my favorite dish I've had here. The curry is mild but has a subtle sweetness. The cutlet was crispy and stuck to the chicken well. The ban chans are delicious, surprisingly no kimchi today. Also don't hesitate to ask for more of them! Fantastic service. korean superette is an unassuming korean mini mart/restaurant located in albany (california, not new york lol) but oh my goodness this little place just might be my favorite korean restaurant in the berkeley area. located just a 7 minute car ride away from uc berkeley for the few students lucky (and brave) enough to bring their cars on campus or a 20 minute bus ride (take the 18 bus and it's basically a direct route), i would certainly say this spot rewards the adventurous foodies who are hardworking enough to plan meals just a tiny bit ahead of time, rather than simply settling for kimchi garden or t-toust in southside. (or just order it from uber eats i guess.) ok ramble over! food review time! s-tier: rosé tteokbokki: so i might be a bit biased because i absolutely love rosé tteokbokki in general, but TRUST ME theirs is good! the creaminess perfectly contrasts that bit of spice from the gochuchang and there's an added bit of savoriness from the mozzarella on top. and of course, their rice cakes (or tteok) is cooked just right (not too hard, not too mushy) and is supplemented with fish cakes and an egg, just as it should be. crap... writing that review made me crave it again. naengmyeon (korean cold noodles): i feel like not many places serve naengmyeon, and the ones that do are just mediocre and meant as a side for k-bbq. enter: korean superette's naengmyeon. splendidly savory, tangy, with a touch of sweetness from korean pear and just a tiny kick from a bit of mustard, this dish proves that there's more to korean cuisine than just grilled meat. i love this dish on a hot summer day. a-tier: spicy pork bento: i'd put the spicy pork bento at s-tier, but it's just a hair too pricey for my liking. to be fair, i'm also a broke college student, so take that as you will. the real star of the show in this dish is the spicy pork, which is marinaded and grilled to perfection and tops most of your run-of-the-mill korean restaurants in berkeley. it's also supplemented with dumplings, vegetables, picked daikon, soup, and rice to make for a balanced meal! curry ramen: to be fair, i only had a single bite of this one from my friend's bowl, but i thought it was really solid! the broth was really flavorful, and i didn't find the curry flavor to be overwhelming at all. this dish was also well-balanced, as it had a bit of meat and vegetables instead of just being plain ramen noodles in broth. so that's all for my review of korean superette. please please go and check it out -- it's one of the most severely underrated spots in berkeley (probably due to its location), but it has a great atmosphere, friendly staff, a pretty good array of korean ingredients/snacks and banchan (side dishes) in addition to amazing food and deserves to get more reviews! p.s. portions are huge, so you bet you can split one order into two meals! Spacious, air conditioned spot with a cute little outdoor seating area. My spicy ramen with pork was full of flavor and had great heat level. Mom had the soft/silky tofu with pork and we asked for it to be mild. Portion size was very filling and mom's to go container lasted her 3 days, but she did not let it go to waste. There are many restaurants to choose from in the area and I'm glad to knock this one off the list. I've been here a few times and glad they kept the back patio area which has a really nice ambiance and Berkeley feel to it. I've done grab and go mostly when I come here but most recently dined here on a weekend. We ordered the rose rice cakes, deep fried tofu and bento box with a side of soju. Rose rice cake was really good, had a nice kick to it. I was also craving kimbap and asked if I can order and staff said sure thing! Korean Suprette is half market, half restaurant. The outdoor seating area has a lovely garden setting, while the indoor area is surrounded by shelves of Korean grocery items. But the real reasons to come here were for the gorgeous presentation and flavor of the dishes! To start, the banchans included marinaded cucumbers, spicy cucumbers, spicy bean sprouts, marinated bok choy, and kimchi, and all of these were fresh and delicious. For our mains, the Udon with Curry Vegetable Sauce (with zucchini, bell peppers, mushrooms, carrots, onion) looked a lot like a Japanese curry, but was much subtler in flavor. The Nangmyeon was a bowl of thin buckwheat noodles in an ice cold beef consommé topped with cucumbers, pickled radish, a boiled egg, and chunks of ice. The relatively flavorless broth was served with a hot horseradish mustard and vinegar on the side, which enhanced the flavors. But my favorite dish by far was the Rose Rice Cakes, which came with chewy rice cake cylinders and fish cake slices in a deliciously creamy, spicy sauce, all topped with a boiled egg, melted mozzarella cheese, and scallions. Overall, though the service here was slow and inattentive, the presentation of the food was a step above, and everything came at a good value too! read more

Korean Superette took over the location of Rivoli after the famed restaurant closed during the pandemic. It is a super cute Korean deli/market and restaurant. They have indoor tables in the middle of the market where you will sit surrounded by shelves of Korean imported dry goods, snacks, and gift items. One wall is lined with coolers containing all sorts of pre-made banchans and other foods you can take home to eat or cook yourself. Fortunately the lovely outdoor patio overlooking the garden from the former restaurant was kept, so diners in the indoor dining space have a nice view to the back garden. There are also a few tables on the outdoor patio so you can enjoy dining outside on a nice day. We ordered the spicy pork belly bento, palace rice cakes (with beef and vegetables), the seafood tofu soup and the Korean style miso ramen. All the foods were very fresh and delicious, the meats were marinated well, and the portions were generous. We also tried their citrus creamy iced tea and match latte. The drinks came in a tall glass and they were refreshing. We were glad to wait a few months after their grand opening to visit. I remembered initially there would be lines out the door. On the day of our visit on a Sunday noon we had no problem getting a table right away, and the service was attentive and friendly. I believe their menu changes seasonally so we plan to be back for further exploration. read more

Bulgogi was very good but nothing special I can't get at another Korean restaurant! Tofu soup was a bit too sweet and tasted too much like tomato soup for my liking. Loved the concept but I don't think I tried the right things. They were extremely understaffed and not properly trained so there was a bit of a wait and a lot of things were forgotten when staff was just waiting around! This place is the definition of a neighborhood gem. It's intimate and cozy, but also a great place to just stop to browse some snacks, drinks, instant ramen, and banchan. I've been in a few times to pick up from fresh kimchi, but finally got to sit down and eat. FOOD: I tried their cold noodles (nangmyeon) on a particularly hot day and it hit the spot. They provide hot mustard and vinegar for you to flavor the soup according to your taste. I love that they include asian pear slices, it really goes so well with the noodles. I also tried the spicy pork rice bowl with vegetables (dupp bop). The pork was delicious, I just wish it came with a little more meat. All the banchan they serve is delicious. i absolutely love the sautéed mushroom banchan and kimchi bean sprout banchan. SETTING: It's so cute inside. They have a small outdoor patio that I would absolutely recommend, though they only have 4-5 tables available on the patio. They encourage you to shop around before you pay the bill, so that you can pay for everything all at once. Absolutely need to come back to try everything on the menu. Ever since the sign for Korean Superette went up after Rivoli closed down, I've been excited for a new restaurant in this part of Solano. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with my experience and, while I think Korean Superette deserves another chance, I don't know when I'll try it again. They have a number of menu choices - from udon and ramen for noodle soups to bento box-like dishes to rice cake dishes to cold noodles. We ordered the Palace Rice Cakes (rice cakes with beef and veggies), Curry Ramen with Chicken and the Doshi-Roc (Bento Box) with Bugolgi. The dishes were okay but largely not memorable or particularly tasty. Also, the non-noodle dishes were on the small side so we were left wanting and at ~$20 per dish, it felt relatively pricey for what we got. We were further put off by the ice-cold veggies in the bento box. The service was okay but not great, though I realize that so many small businesses are struggling with labor shortages. There were interesting-looking market items - both raw and fully-prepared - which could be good for eating at home. read more

This is truly a hidden gem within the neighborhood. The menu item is simple and delicious, I decided to get the spicy pork duppbap and have found my Goto item every time I go now. It comes with some cute side dishes that compliment the entree well and is perfect when wanting a nice lunch or dinner without going overboard. The entree was tasty and a tad spicier than a mild variety but most acceptable. If you come here don't be in a hurry. If you do you'll be disappointed. Stepped into a sweet little dream last night. Our two servers were attentive and kind, even when they were busy. Banchan (little apps before the meal) were 2 types of pickled cucumbers, mushrooms, and seafood pancake. Silken tofu stew was so so cute and delicious. Flavorful veggie broth and a variety of (what my partner said were) Japanese mushrooms. They have different kimchee types, mandoo's, banchans, and meats in the refrigerators. Also a dry foods staples and snacks along the walls. I ended up purchasing the napa kimchee and chop chea. I liked the chop chea, as it was not oily. It was flavored well had a good balance of vegetable. The napa kimchee was good, but not spicy. It did have a garlic forward taste and was more sweet than spicy. Next time I am in the neighborhood, I will visit again to try the different banchans and cucumber kimchee. read more

It's a cute little spot! I love the patio and fresh banchan you can take with you. FOOD - 4 stars - I tried their cold noodles (nangmyeon) and their palace rice cake. It was a hot day so the nangmyeon broth with added mustard and vinegar was absolutely cool and refreshing. The palace rice cake wasn't particularly special but had a pleasant chewy texture and a savory sauce that paired well with the acidic nangmyeon broth. The banchan were a bit better than average for a korean restaurant in East Bay as well. My only minor complaints were that they used regular ice rather than the ice made from broth so it became more and more diluted as the ice melted. AMBIANCE - 5 stars - We sat inside but still had full view of the patio space that was lush with trees and other vegetation, which added greatly to the atmosphere. I was so surprised to find out that this place is a mini Korean market and a restaurant! The mini market has items ranging from different types of ramen packages, frozen food, side dishes (ban Chan), some meats, beverages, cooking oils, sauces, noodles, seasoning, teas/coffees, and some dish ware. I felt like the sauce was thicker and a little sweeter, which made the pork cutlet taste sooo good! I also appreciated the little bit of salad and broccoli that came with it. Overall this dish had that nice little crunch to it and It was VERY filling The spicy rice cakes were also delicious! I definitely would say this dish can be shared with 2 people. It had the right amount of spice and the ratio of rice cake to fish cake and veggies was good. Definitely had leftovers but that's more likely because I was more focused on the pork cutlet. Overall, I recommend this place! So far this has been the only place that sells Korean pork cutlets, so I definitely recommend going here for that!
