Let's face it good to great pastrami is hard to find anywhere. This is decent pastrami that's the best so far in South Orange County. It's cooked well, and the spices are just right. Could it be leaner? Yes, but that will cost $1 more. The sandwich will come with a scoop of side salad. I had potato salad and it was clearly fresh and homemade. It's a deli so lots of items for you to take home, especially if you are a stickler for authentic NYC foods. Service here is friendly and welcoming, but it really doesn't have an atmosphere. I came in here while taking a break from the line at the DMV (showed up at 8am, wasn't helped until 6pm, but I guess that's another story). I would say customer service here was better than the DMV, but maybe only slightly. My friendly inquiry of "What's good here?" was met by a very gruff "If it's on the menu, it's good," and a smirk that seemed to indicate I was the moron for thinking that maybe some items on the menu were more good than other items on the menu - and maybe, it being my first time in the establishment, a suggestion might help me make a food selection. In the end I got the half pastrami sandwich with the potato sandwich. Both were good, though I didn't think the food was a great value for the price. Also, the other customers were so old I thought a bingo game might break out. All in all, if you have a thing for authentic Jewish Delis, you'll probably like this place. I had the pastrami sandwich, the meat was good, and potato salad was very plain. The place was very busy and the service extremely slow. There was a bunch of stuff being delivered at the same time during rush lunch hour. Who plans that?????? The place is not very clean, employees that were slicing the meat were wearing gloves, however the floors were dirty and the stuff in the refrigerator area did not look appetizing. I only wish I lived closer to this fantastic deli. I rarely am in the area to frequent this place but am never disappointed by the food. The tender and lean corned beef is the best in Orange County. The potato salad is better than what I make at home. The kosher dill pickles are phenomenal. I'm so happy to see this small business still operational after the Covid debacle. "Run... Dont Walk!" to this "Actually Kosher" teeny spot in a Laguna Hills shopping center in South Orange County for delectable sandwiches and spreads. Growing up on the East Coast I can appreciate the real deal. I wish they had a bigger place, but the corned beef and smoked whitefish salad do more than makes up for it they make me crave it. Let me say, loud and clear, that I have eaten corned beef for 30+ years. At Katz's, Ben N Irv's, Cantor's, Brent's, Nate n Al's, Max's, Barney Greengrass, Benji's, 2nd Ave. Deli, Jerry's, You Name It. This Corned Beef is so buttery, so rich and so flavorful it should be called "Kosher Bite Beef" . As a connoisseur of corned beef, there are a couple of traits that I can test or mandatory to even begin to qualify as Jewish Deli Style Corned Beef. First, it has to be 100% Brisket, not round. Brisket Yum. Round Yucky. Brisket good. Round Bad. you get the idea, round has no flavor, gristly fat and is a very cheap substitute for high-quality brisket. To give you an idea how many places serve Beef Round and not Beef Brisket, I would safely say that about 90% of "Delis" do not actually serve corned beef brisket, and instead serve corned beef round, which is why there is so few Deli's anymore because when they're all serving corned beef round no one wants to go.. because it tastes like crap. The second trait that I've learned to look for in Corned Beef, is an iridescent coloring. Kind of like an abalone shell with a certain kind of multicolored color-changing effect. Kosher Bite deli makes corned beef the right way. I know without even asking this is not a packaged item shipped in from New York, and while it may start that way, and that's actually fine because there are some pretty good National Distributors of high-quality corned beef brisket, this is another level they are doing things to this brisket and seasoning it and other kinds of things to give it that very Savory and rich flavor above and beyond simply ripping open a package of Jonathan's from New York which would be what you might see in a lot of delis, without the real Pizzazz that Kosher Bite puts into it. So, bottom line... is this... THIS IS THE BEST CORNED BEEF I'VE EVER HAD BY FAR, NOT JUST BARELY BUT HANDS DOWN. THIS CORNED BEEF IS WHAT ALL CORNED BEEF AND EVERY DELI SHOULD ASPIRE TO SERVE CUSTOMERS. Part of me is so happy about this stuff because I can actually point to something and say that is the best corned beef, I don't have to question it, I don't have to give it qualifiers, I don't have to say well it's not as this as Katz's or it's not as this has been a nerves, oh no no no no. This is by FAR AND AWAY thee best corned beef of all time. and even though there are only five or six little round plastic tables in this place and it resembles a to go joint more than anything else, and even though it's in a little tiny shopping center with zero Street visibility and not even any real signage once you're inside that shopping center, you will still be waiting in line for a good 20 to 30 minutes and so I suggest buying at least 2 lbs, something I do every week, well actually something my wife does for me every week, thanks Jenny. (She's the best wife). If you are vegan and visiting your (grand)parent(s) in Laguna Woods, or just hungry, please note that this place will make vegan potato knishes, or vegan apple strudel, if you call at least 24 hours in advance. The best eggplant I've ever had in my life. Seriously. I don't even like eggplant like that. I used to order vegan cream cheese each time (you have to ask them to go heavy FYI), and then one time she told me that secretly all they use is vegan cream cheese. Which is because they're a fleischig restaurant but still cool. Vegan by trickery. Also, their hummus has that unique, rich, homemade taste - and I don't even like hummus like that. And I affirmatively despise tabbouleh, but this is kind of tolerable. There are a few vegan sandwich combinations. I have no shame and have done the vegetarian platter (falafel and the above) AND a bagel (or rye) with shmear, and made a sandwich out of that. We really like the food at this tiny restaurant. My family goes for the pastrami, corned beef, tongue, and liver. I love the knish, latkes, and the salads. So delicious!! This place is unassuming, it's got a rather old school interior. The smell of beautiful fresh bread hits you as you walk in. Freshly braided challah was sitting waiting to be baked. I came here in December 2019 on a spur of the moment while I was waiting for the DMV. I got super hungry and needed something close by. I was not expecting to come across such a hidden gem. I mean WOW. I ordered a matzo ball soup and half a pastrami sandwich with sauerkraut. I devoured everything while sitting in my car because it was just soo damn good. This is the BEST Jewish Deli in Orange County....I have been to most of the ones.......To get better you have to go to LA to Langers or Brent's, But if you don't want the big drive to LA, this is the go to deli. The quality of the meat is the highest you can find. They make their own knishes which are magnificent. You have to order ahead to get meat knishes, though.....Marian, the owner, is priceless. Friendlier you can't find.........Quality of food and friendliness of owner is definitely 5 star. I gave it a 4 star only because it sometimes is a bit of a wait on a long line as there are no waitresses so you order from the counter. But is it worth the wait for absolutely delicious food? Several months ago, I purchased a jar of half-sour pickles from The Kosher Bite. When I came home, I noticed that the pickles were beyond the date. The portion is large enough to share; but if you are really hungry then I recommend ordering your own sandwich. The beef salami and dry beef salami are so good. I have had this place bookmarked for a quite a while with the hope of finding a Jewish Deli close to my home so it would no longer be necessary to drive to Katella Deli Restaurant & Bakery when I wanted a good pastrami sandwich. I thought the meat portion size was correct, but the pastrami wasn't seasoned well and it was missing the smokiness that is common with good pastrami. The corned beef was also lacking the saltiness from being cured with rock salt. Both sandwiches were given a few shots of mustard to make them more palatable. The sandwiches weren't too bad, but the sides were substandard. The vinaigrette for the cucumber salad was basically devoid of flavor and it was like eating sliced cucumbers sitting in water. The macaroni salad had a sweet funky taste that neither of us could put our finger on exactly, but maybe it was the sweet relish. The pickles spears were from standard kosher pickles and it is virtually impossible to screw up a bottle of Dr. Brown's. Rohlinism: Absence makes the palate grow fonder too! It had been a while since I had my Kosher Nectar of the Gods and my palate was more appreciative of this soda than anything else I consumed from this deli.
