Usually we think no place beats the food from Southern Ca until we had the yakitori here. The salmon crudo is good and super soft. The pork belly yakitori is the best I've had (moist and great flavor). The chicken yakitori is really good too. I preferred these 2 over the wagu yakitori which had a great grill flavor but a little chewier and had a meatier taste. The pork belly bao was good. I think the ginger and cole slaw (esp ginger) distracts from the taste of the saucy meat. The Cole slaw is probably needed for a fresh taste balance though or try cucumber and picked veggies (Viet style - love Bolsa baos from Bao Hog in GG. I enjoyed the unagi (moist) and crispy rice too. Then we found out the owner helped open Tabu shabu shabu in Huntington Beach, Ca. What a small world. I'm not a huge fan of the shabu shabu there so the shabu shabu (broth, sauces, and soft yellow noodle; udon is better or even instant ramen and need napa cabbage) here was not the highlight of this restaurant for me...it's their appetizers! I could not rave more about this restaurant! My husband and I moved here in June and have been missing Shabu! We have been on a search to find a good Shabu place and we finally found it! We were so impressed! I think good Shabu, with good sauces, is hard to do and they did it! Not only with the Shabu but also with all the other menu items! Amazing delicious food- we had crispy dumplings (6) and they were super tasty and packed with pork filling. The chicken and scallions were tender, juicy and oh so delicious. We finished with garlic noodles, which were savory and so yummy with the shemiji mushrooms. Excellent! read more

Food was delicious,but after being presented with my bill and paying via credit card, we left the restaurant to wait for our uber. However, we were followed outside by the hostess about three or four minutes later to tell us that we've been given the wrong bill. Came back inside and they tried to remedy the problem by reversing my charge and recharging it, but then my card would not go through. I knew there wasn't an issue with funds so we just stood there awkwardly with each other. Neither the server or the hostess suggested a solution. Only then did I find out that I was under charge by just six dollars! They tried my card again and this time it worked. Just frustrating because they knew we had an Uber waiting outside. I felt like it was their error and to walk outside the restaurant and chase us down for six dollars seemed unprofessional not to mention the fact if they had originally told me that was the difference in price, I could've just given them cash. I've just not seen a nice dining establishment haggle over six dollars; next time have the server take it out of her $25 tip. read more

We came in for a girls night and had the bessssst time! The small plates were perfect for sharing and we tried so many different dishes that did not disappoint. The staff was so friendly and attentive and our server Logan gave such good recs! I ordered a mocktail (bartenders choice) and got the yummiest refreshing drink that wasn't too sweet. Lastly the ube banana pudding is such a fun twist on a classic dessert it was the cherry on top. We cannot wait to come back to try more and definitely going to book the Shabu bar for hot pot!! read more

I literally NEVER write reviews for places but when I tell you THIS place deserves every single bit of recognition and praise they can get!!! The atmosphere? Amazing! Low lighting and amazing music (not the elevator background music either) The staff? Absolutely TOP TIER! (Chef and Joy I'm looking at you!!) the chef was so amazing and answered questions about the dishes and talked when he could and went to tables when he had time and ran that kitchen with excellence! Our server was Joy and she is the sweetest thing ever and so real. She gave the best recommendations and made the night so great. The other staff members were great too from our small interactions. From start to finish this place was amazing. All the servers are VERY knowledgeable about the menu and the history of Kosho. Joyous was so fun! Request her if she's working.
