This has always been my favorite sushi place ever. They recently moved around the corner from their original location ( New location: 263 Flatbush Avenue) and their new restaurant is GORGEOUS, authentic, clean, and spacious. The food is amazingly fresh at all times, and their lunch special deal is so excellent, perfect for a college student budget. The people who own the place are so kind and they really want you to have an amazing experience eating there. I have a few allergy restrictions ( severe sesame allergy ) and they go out of their way to make sure that those ingredients aren't present in the food. I don't ever write reviews, but I felt it was necessary to write one for Koto. It's awesome. The fish is extremely fresh -- I've ordered delivery or take-out tens of times and the quality has been consistently excellent. I've never sat-in (its pretty small and not that great looking), but if you don't care about the decor and people walking in constantly to pick up food, then I'm sure it would be cool. Especially considering that the surrounding sushi spots are pretty weak, this place is a gem. read more

Warning: Something just isn't right with the sushi here. I ordered a salmon/yellowtail/peppered tuna roll as well as Gyoza. The Gyoza was great, and I shared it with someone else. Not even a half hour after me eating the sushi (not shared) I got sick. From the looks of other reviews this is not the first time. I would think twice before eating/ordering from here. I've ordered from this place at least 10 times, and I've got to hand it to them, the food is excellent. It's at least as good as all of the other sushi places around. The reason why I'm giving it 2 stars and not 4 or 5 is that the delivery guys (or guy, I'm not sure if it's the same one) are incredibly rude. I'll admit, on 2 occasions, I didn't answer my phone right away, and they waited outside for 5 minutes. I'm not exaggerating; 5 minutes both times. On the first occasion, the guy yelled at me. I apologized, and we parted ways. The second time, he absolutely ripped into me. I mean, to the point where I felt like I was on one of those TV shows where they put you in a socially uncomfortable situation and see how you react. I couldn't believe that someone who I was paying quite a bit of money - regularly, at that - would say the things that that guy said. The bottom line is, Park Slope is full of food, and full of good sushi places. they're all reviewed well on Yelp. Since that's the case, I'm never ordering from Koto again. If you get bad service, don't think that it's a fluke, and order from somewhere else. read more

This used to be my go-to place for sushi. The last 3 times I have ordered, delivery has taken an hour or hour and a half. The sushi is not as fresh as it used to be. Shrimp tempura arrives cold and soggy now whereas before it was always perfectly crispy and fresh. The salmon is sometimes stringy, whereas it was the best in the area previously [other than Gen]. I might as well order cheaper sushi I know is mediocre rather than continue to be disappointed in this place. read more

Never have I had such a horrendous experience. First, the order was delivered by the most rude and almost dangerous person ever to deliver a meal. Second, the food was totally the wrong order. When we complained, the restaurant refused to believe that they screwed up the order. When they delivered the order finally they wanted the old order back that we had already thrown in the garbage. I ordered dinner for a guest and myself for delivery. The miso soup my friend ordered (she got just soup and avocado salad) was not in the bag. There was, however, salmon sashimi that I did not order. My friend had arrived and I called to tell them the restaurant. They said "we will be there in 30 min with the soup. And we will take the sashimi back". Are you serious?? I told them I had a guest for dinner and 1/2 of her order was missing. They were going to make me wait 30 min but the clincher is they were asking for what I didn't order back?? They said the soup was $4 and the sashimi is $12. I said "who cares! You made the mistake". I am floored they came and took the sashimi back. For $8 they should have let me keep it due to their error. So they were going to give this now not fresh sashimi to someone else?? And now they lost a customer. To save $8. Worst customer service decision ever. read more

I had the worst experience when I ordered from this restaurant. There was hair in my sushi and the rolls were poorly prepared. It was truly a rush job. Not to mention, the spring rolls were under cooked. I was very dissatisfied with my order and regret paying $20 for it. I rather them take a little longer to make it right instead of serving crap. When I called grub hub to complain they contacted Koto Sushi and they were screaming and the worker and saying they will not issue a refund. Stopped in here on the way back to my apartment from Park Slope in an attempt to escape the hot soupiness going on in the air outside. Also, Koto has also been leaving menus outside my door for forever, so (flattered by their persistence) I thought I'd give them a try--plus I've been curious to see if I can find a sushi place that competes with Kiku. I didn't really expect them to hit that mark, and sure enough they fell short, but I have to say, given the cheap-Chinese-takeout look of the store/menu, the food here was better than I expected. The sashimi wasn't the freshest or best I've ever had, but certainly was not bad, and I could see it doing the job for some quick delivery/takeout on a whim sometime. It came with soup, salad, rice, California rolls (six pieces) and a small spring roll for $8, which is a great deal, though--not to put too fine a point on it--only a bit less than what the Kiku equivalent costs. I will say that the other patrons seemed like loyal, happy, and repeat customers, and from the way the employees were quietly chatting with each other (in Chinese, mind you), it seems like an enjoyable place to work. But really, with Kiku a short walk away and in about the same delivery radius, I can't think of many reasons to eat here unless you're seriously desperate to save literally a dollar or two. read more

I'm not quiet sure what was going on, but I saw a worker with two open containers on the street with fluids. He placed one of the open containers near a dog, which the dog proceeded to lick out of. This place is a hidden gem! It doesn't have the hipper look of some of the more well-known Japanese restaurants in the 'hood. It looks like any other run of the mill, old school Japanese restaurant, but don't let outward appearances fool you. The food here is amazing. The fish is always fresh, served promptly, and the wait staff is nicer than you could ask for. But the main draw for me? The salmon special roll! Amazing! I have it once every week now, and I usually don't like ordering the same things. It's a salmon roll with avocado, but then wait! There's some kani salad on top mixed with spicy salmon, a little bit of lettuce shreds for texture, and roe. I've gotten into the habit of eating the kani first, which for some reason is a party in your mouth, and then the roll. It is yummy! If you're a salmon fan, and a fan of kani salad, you can't go wrong. AND the prices are just right! I am so happy I decided to walk into this place on my way home from salsa one night. This place is great because it delivers QUICKLY and always gets your order right! Those are major pluses in a take out spot. I always get the Godzilla roll and the Samurai roll. There are pretty good. My boyfriends likes the chicken udon noodles. We recently ordered the japanese fried chicken appetizer - wow, YUM! Went for a few rolls with a friend and it was my first time here. Had four of the basic rolls towards the end of the menu such as Philadelphia Roll and Shrimp Tempura. The rolls were decent, not the best I've had but pretty flavorful. I wouldn't recommend the mango shrimp roll as the flavor combo didn't work for me somehow. I also had tempura ice cream and enjoyed that although it was a bit small. The service was excellent and everyone was extremely pleasant. It was very nice going somewhere for dinner that the servers were friendly and put me in a nice mood. Our waitress was attentive and it got busy right before we left around 8pm. I would go back there for the ambiance and to try some of the specialty rolls. Prices were extremely low and reasonable in my opinion. read more

I am not feeling so well today. I have a classic case of food poisoning which developed within seconds after eating at Koto Sushi. This makes me a bit sad for obvious reasons but also because I once really enjoyed their food. (The two times I visited) I ordered the snow and valentine roll and instantly realized something was off about them, I was just so hungry and so made the disastrous error to finish it. The raw looking tuna inside was exploding out of the dish which I am sure was what tainted my insides. My stomach continues to be throbbing with cramps this morning and I pray for better days. I just ordered delivery and after waiting for 1 1/2 hrs, the delivery man arrived and yelled at me for not 'ordering enough food'..My order was $25 so i don't know what he was talking about. I let that go, maybe he was having a bad day (sorry but it's your job), but then the sushi tasted old.
