The seating selection is comfy and cozy, but there aren't many spots). I tried the oat milk matcha, and it did not disappoint. It had that strong matcha flavor I'm always looking for. None of that watery, just-green-milk nonsense. This place clearly knows what they're doing when it comes to matcha. To stay on theme, I also went for the matcha tiramisu. It was good, but not something I'd rush back for. With such a fun, unique menu, I'm more excited to keep trying new things. My friend ordered the hojicha fruit & nut latte, and... it wasn't for either of us. I gave it a try too, and while I couldn't quite pinpoint what threw it off, it had a bitter note under the strawberry that didn't sit right. The staff were really kind and excited to tell us about the dessert options and drinks, including free iced barley tea (unsweetened and low caffeine), complimentary and worth a try, even though I'd say it's an acquired taste. I was not aware of the new split location. I went to the new location (2 doors down) for the chicken katsu and curry beef. Instead 2 small chicken tenders and a bowl of curried potatoes & carrots w MINCED stew. The waitress was a sweetheart, and the manager was nice but the "little spiky hair waiter" was so rude, he embarrassed me with the tone in which he was speaking to me prior to the manager coming to speak to me. I forgot to take a picture before leaving, but my stew did not look like the picture below. It was more thicker and full of potatoes and carrots, but I don't even eat anyway. So upset with my experience. I was really disappointed that I wasn't offered another option/compromise for my meal. Both our meals were very good, but I prefer my order since I get to taste 2 different types of their meat plus it's also cheaper. The beef was tender and I enjoyed the curry sauce that covered the rice, so yummy. Tried also the Tanjiro Sando, it was just okay, I prefer the fried version with the cream filling. We also ordered some oshinko (pickled daikon), ao-kappa (pickles) and kimchi daikon. All were really good and the kimchi definitely has a kick. Oh and we ordered a strawberry ube cream sando. Ube is a purple sweet potato like root. Combine that with strawberries and Japanese milk bread? Oh my goodness! I enjoyed a great lunch at Koushinryou recently. I've been to their sister restaurant Karai but this was my first visit to Koushinryou. I have to admit- I've been a little intimidated by the menu because due to my allergies, genetics, or likely both- I do not tolerate spicy food well unfortunately. I decided to go with the Side by Side Curry so I could try two curries at once. The Koushinryou chicken curry (spice level 1) and the Japanese beef curry (spice level 2) were both absolutely delicious. So delicious in fact that I kept eating the Japanese curry despite the fact that my face went flush & my mouth was tingling. Thank goodness the curries are served with rice. This place is incredibly popular. We came at 6:45pm on a Friday evening, and there was a half hour wait. But, you can smell the food from outside the restaurant. It smells SO GOOD. The theme-ing of this place is on point! I would recommend it to any anime lover in your life. It's more anime focused than general Japanese. The lady in the front was very friendly and attentive to the clientele. She even let us move from the bar to a booth when one opened up. SUPER SWEET. We ordered the chicken salad and the beef sandwich. They're a little pricey for what you get, but your paying for the location and ambience. The beef is rare but soft. And the chicken was nice and crunchy. They use a sesame sauce for their salad. If it was me, next time I'd request less sauce, but that's a personal preference. But with the service, music, theme, it's a worthwhile visit. Be aware, if you don't have a phone that can scan QR codes, it may be hard to get on a wait-list or look at a menu. Located in the shopping center with Karai Ramen, Koushinryou is their new concept. It takes over the slightly underwhelming Kaprao's former spot. The name of the place sort of says it all. They have multiple options of sandos and Japanese and Thai curry. Katsu chicken, spring rolls, fries, and salad are also on the menu. On my first visit I opted for the Japanese beef curry with katsu chicken. At first I thought that the two proteins may not work well together, I actually ended up loving this. The beef is so chunky and it was sitting in a warm, hearty curry. It reminded me of a pot roast or stew. It had a slight sweetness to it. The Katsu chicken was good. Although it was a bit dry for my taste, when it was eaten with the curry, it worked well. I really enjoyed the pickled veggies and they may have been the highlight of the meal. On my second visit, I ate in with colleagues. I got the grouper Sando, and they got the side by side curries along with the chicken Katsu Sando. The grouper sandwich was good and the bread was nice and soft. I probably prefer the curry over this but for a quick lunch, it was perfect. I am not a real fan of mayonnaise so I got it on the side but the sandwich definitely needed some moisture as it was a little dry. The sweet potato fries were fine, nothing too remarkable despite the spices noted on the menu. On the side by side curry plate, the Japanese one is not spicy but the Thai one has a bit of a kick. This place has been on my list for a while and we finally stopped in tonight on our way back to our side of town from the beach. We have been missing out! The ichi tori katsu entree was amazing. The chicken was perfectly hot and crispy, the (pickled/dressed?) cabbage and sauces sealed the deal! The Japanese curry was bomb as well (phone did not eat first.) I originally came in with the hopes of trying the side by side curry, but they no longer do this plating. As an alternate, I tried the Japanese Katsu Curry which was very nice. The beef was so tender and the Katsu has a nice crisp to it. For desert, I got the strawberry and cream sando which was so decedent, but not overly sweet which was a plus for me. This spot is super quaint and they fill up quickly due to the size but we were able to snag a spot right at the bar right away. The menu is digital and there is a QR code but also some tablets they leave out that also allow view of the menu. They also have a tablet on the wall to the right of the bar to place to go orders without talking to anyone. The food was great. You get such a good amount of food. I went with the Japanese Katsu curry it was fantastic, the curry was well balanced and the chicken was crunchy. My fiancé got the karai katsu raisu and loved the chicken and pickles. We had ordered an egg salad sando to start but ended up not getting it but we look forward to trying it the next visit. The one downside to the visit was our particular waiter. The waitress I think her name was Irene was hustling and kicking butt. Our waiter seemed to struggle a bit which impacted the experience some. We also had the Karai Katsu Raisu plate, that was for sure my favorite thing. The crispiness and flavor of the breading, with the juiciest thigh meat inside. We love sides, so we got the 2 types of cucumbers and the daikon kimchi. They were good, different than anything I've had, but still good. And finally, of course, the SANDO! We got the side by side and the Japanes curry was nice and hearty and the thai curry had just the right amount of sweetness. The curry is fabulous. It is a real comfort food that reminds me of a beef stew that has been cooking for hours. The chicken katzu was fine. Brought a friend here to try the sandos for the first time. She chose the egg salad sando and we couldn't decide so we went with the strawberry/banana/Nutella and the tiramisu sandos. The milk bread is so soft and fluffy. Sandwiches are huge and very filling. The dessert sandos were so good!
