There are only a few restaurants of the East Asian Chinese, Japanese, and Korean traditions in the Utah Valley area that do not disappoint. Today I discovered that K's is definitely one of the cream of the crop. You won't find sushi here, but there is a great selection of Domburi (rice bowl) dishes with various carnivorous toppings. First timers need to try the Katsudon (the signature dish) which will be on the sweeter side. All the sides are excellent, and they are very generous with the edamame. For something savory, the salted pork is perfect. This place is also very comfortable, with nice white and wood accents at the dining tables, and some tasteful Japanese decorations, including the blue "eatery" banner in the corner. Last, the food quality is just amazing. You can tell K and staff put heart into the food, and that's why it comes out so well. Last time I went, they put all the food in disposable takeout boxes, which changed the feel of everything. Presentation was off and portion size was different. They need to add more of a unique flare to their dishes instead of just rice with meat. read more

We were driving through the SLC/Provo area from southern Utah and wanted a quick Asian bite to eat. We came across this place on Yelp and thought we would give it a try with the good ratings. Reservations are encouraged (and can be done online). This place only has Donburi (rice bowls) and comes with pickles and miso soup. Appetizers are also fairly good but they're cheap at $3.50 (such a good deal considering other Japanese places charge $6-8 for gyoza). I ordered the Yakiniku (Korean BBQ beef) donburi bowl. It was pretty good and you get a lot of meat and riced for the price you pay! Staff were super friendly too. I would definitely come back here if I lived in the SL or Provo area due to the good food you may at a great price. Highly recommend!! read more

The inside is very minimalist, but clean and inviting. The menu is great. Each dish has a picture. The server, Erica, was friendly and helpful. We started with the Gyoza Dumplings (6 pc deep fried pork). For our main courses we had Sanshokudon (egg, spinach, ground pork) and Katsu Curry (pork cutlets w/Japanese curry). The main course comes with soup and cucumber slices. Everything was a feast for the eyes, mouth and stomach! The food came out looking just like the pictures on the menu. This is a Japanese restaurant like no other in the area. It's nearly like you'd find in Japan. They specialize in Donburi. No tempura, sushi, bento boxes, and whatnot. It's Donburi. This is the way it works in Japan. You want a particular dish, you go to a restaurant that dedicates themselves to the dish. That way they can make it the best. They do have sides here you wouldn't see there, but it's not a focus. Donburi is rice covered with some topping, often meat, and some sauce. I've tried about half the menu and enjoyed them all. The rice gets the sauce and is delicions. It's a pretty big meal for me, but I don't want to stop until it's finished. read more

I don't like giving bad reviews to restaurant, but I'm leaving this in hope that they'll take it as feedback so they can improve. My wife and I stopped here for dinner because it was close to the building where we had an event. The menu and website says traditional Japanese cuisine. The owner greeted us immediately and was very friendly and the restaurant is clean and tidy. The food however is more like poorly made Japanese fast food. It's wet white rice, that is somewhat mushy, which makes it unpleasant to eat, mixed with a few other things and a protein. It reminded me of going to a Teriyaki Stix food chain, except instead of it tasting like sugary sweet, sticky teriyaki sauce. The food was just bland and the sauces they had available were unmarked except the soy sauce and teriyaki. There is also apparently noodles you can get, but the owner didn't mention noodles. The stars are for the greeting and the restaurant cleanliness. Maybe they were just having a bad night, but I feel the owner should ask people their honest opinions about the food and walk around and have someone else greet and go over the menu. Absolutely delicious Japanese food here. We decided to get takeout here once and we thought the flavors were good, but since traffic was so bad getting home most of the food was a little cold so we got a hint of the deliciousness but not the full picture. (To be very clear that was not the restaurant's fault. It was very hot when I picked it up, but there's nothing you can do about traffic) So we vowed to go back and dine in this time so we could eat the food hot. It was absolutely excellent. The food was delicious. Their Onigiri (filled rice balls) were super flavorful and attractive. Their Domburi (rice and protein main dishes) were delicious and there was plenty in each portion. Also the man who took our order was incredibly friendly, helpful, and provided excellent recommendations. They also provided a number of sauces you could put on your food if desired although I didn't because it was all perfectly flavored as it was. The location outside is really nondescript, I didn't even notice it when driving by. It's nice and clean on the inside, the staff is friendly, they were playing an Anime on the TV, and it was just a great environment to eat in. We'll absolutely be going back, and this time I may just order like 4 different onigiri for my meal, they're that tasty. Highly recommend this place if you like Japanese food. read more

Worst gyoza I have ever had. I am pretty sure it was leftover uncovered from Saturday and served Monday afternoon.

I love donburi my fave is oyakodon and I'm kicking myself for not getting that because I can make it at home. However the katsu curry was really, really fantastic. The katsu was perfectly cooked and the curry was a great complement. I was a bit disappointed with the sukiyaki, it didn't taste like the normal sukiyaki I get from Little Tokyo in LA. Of course this is donburi style but still I was expecting the flavor to be the same. I gave 5* because the service is great. I will return and get my beloved oyakodon. read more

Noting was on the grill or cooking. Walked pass the food preparation area and sent them taking our food out of a crockpot. They have no sauces or sauce. I would not order any deed bowls. The smell of beef was strong with no flavor. I will say there curry katsu was good. Great service, great food! This place is super clean and has a very simple aesthetic. However, when we sat down we realised that the table was wet as it was wiped down but was not dried. After being seated, the waiter served us promptly and had our food brought to us 10 minutes later. I was very happy with my salted pork and miso soup. The gyoza's were also pretty good. Arigato gozaimasu! I'm so happy that I found K's Kitchen. I'm enthralled by Japanese culture and most importantly their food. It's so flavorful and they've mastered serving something fresh, umami, and delicious! Japanese donburi are rice bowl dishes so everything there is served over a bowl of rice and with a side of pickled vegetables and a bowl of miso soup. I've tried the kastudon (curry chicken) and the shiobutadon (salted pork). The salted pork is my favorite and I love to customize it by adding eggs and extra green onions with lots of sriracha. It's absolutely wonderful. The rice is perfectly cooked and sticky but without being clumpy and starchy. The pork is wonderfully salty and melts in your mouth. Adding the eggs and onions adds for more texture and flavor so it's a win win for me. Their side dishes are wonderful as well, I've had the gyoza (potstickers) and the kaarage (fried chicken). The fried chicken is amazing dark meat that is expertly fried. It's crispy on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside. It's a must get for a carnivore like me that can't get enough meat with their meal. The gyoza are tender, crispy, and perfectly steamed. K's family runs the restaurant and the kitchen. Her husband greets everyone who enters and gives perfect service every time. The hours are kind of funny because they close between lunch and dinner but the food is so good that I don't mind it. I've never been to Japan, but I always figured their cuisine had to be more varied than the three or four things you find in a typical strip mall. And if K's is any indication, there is indeed more you can do with teriyaki sauce than frost a California roll. K's serves rice bowls. White rice, protein, sauce. The sauce is delicious, if a bit subtle for my palate in some dishes. Entrees also come with miso soup, which you won't catch me complaining about. It's one of those places that keeps it simple but demonstrates how extraordinary the basics can be. And the atmosphere is incredibly wholesome, with a chorus of Japanese greetings every time someone walks in, employees who look genuinely happy to work there, and a steady stream of regulars. I really, really, like this place. A mom-and-pop shop (quite literally as a husband and wife duo run both the floor and kitchen), they specialise in authentic Japanese donburi bowls. If you, like me, had no idea what that means it's basically a rice bowl complete with protein (and maybe a few other things like sauce or veggies). Now, I have 3 kids. They are messy. I do the best I can but if you have ever taken a young (like 1 and 2) child to a restaurant then you know what I'm talking about. The owner running the floor was so understanding and accommodating! He even got my son to stop crying, hallelujah. I love when restaurant owners play an active role with the customers and this man was great. So bonus points for that! Next up, food: all was very well done! Everything was made in-house right up to the delicious gyoza. I got the katsu and added curry sauce to it, which had good flavor and was on the sweet side. Most of the dishes do tend to come sweeter but a few aren't, you'll have to check with the server for those since I've forgotten (if you're weird like me and prefer more savory meals). But there are a ton to choose from! Miso soup was served before the meal and was some of the better miso I've had. Every member of our family enjoyed our meal and vowed to return! I have been coming here for well over a year, and was surprised I haven't reviewed it yet. Out of all the restaurants we visit in Utah County, K's beats the rest by a long-shot, we easily come here 3x as many times as any other place. The portions are generous, the food is delicious, hot, and comes out quickly. The prices are fair, and the owner Phil, is very involved, I cannot praise the service here enough. I have been here well over 20 times, and have not had a single less-than-amazing-experience. I haven't had everything on the menu, but I have had all of the sides, and they're all excellent. My favorites are the karaage and korokke, my wife likes the fried gyoza and the harumaki. I get the katsudon every time. Up until K's opening, I had to make katsudon myself (which is kind of a pain), because no other "Japanese" restaurant ever served it. For reference, I lived in Japan for 2 years, and this food is as close to authentic you can get, and its right on par (or better) than any Japanese food I have had in CA, WA, OR, or anywhere else that is supposedly more cultured/diverse than UT county. So come to Ks, you won't be disappointed, in fact you'll be amazed, and it will become a regular spot. read more
