It's more of a 3.75 than a 4, considering they're not always consistent. However, when it's good, it's AMAZING. This time, the NY strip was slightly under-seasoned and more medium than it was medium rare, but the chicken was perfect. As for the sides, they were as delicious as always, my favorites being the fried rice and sautéed mushrooms. Our server was friendly but not very transparent about the price of certain menu items which always leaves a bad taste in my mouth. The chairs were uncomfortable for some of our group, but the tables were clean and everything looked very nice. Such a great dinner and a show. We love this place and enjoy knowing that we will always have delicious food and an entertaining show. The service is always great as well. The filet and chicken are my favorite. The filet is always so tender! The teriyaki sauce is so tasty. The salad is crisp and refreshing. Not to mention that the dressing is delicious enough to drink haha. The onion soup is great and has a nice flavor. The fried rice is so flavorful and some of the best I've had. I love the veggies, especially the mushrooms, and love the dipping sauces they provide. I've always been impressed with their shrimp and salmon dinner as well. I wore brand new Free People pants to this location and under their tables were so nasty I got tons of grease dripping onto my pants and shoes. These pants were $120 and are now ruined from grease stains. The manager Iyung came out with TERRIBLE customer service. Did not offer us anything and just said "so what do you want me to do." I was highly disappointed. It was my birthday I went here to enjoy dinner with my son. We had visited the West Jordan location for his birthday a month ago and wanted to repeat the experience for my birthday. I was looking forward to the delicious noodles and fried rice and shrimp tempura. I am ordered the ribeye as well. The fried rice was poorly done. Not fried much at all. The egg was also no fried much it was not delicious like my experience at West Jordan. The cook did not cook the rice enough it sat in a flavorless pile over taken by the eggy flavor. With not enough green onion and veggies that they normally put in it. He drenched the noodles with way too much sauce also not frying those enough and not enough additional veggies. Didn't get a single piece of veggie in my noodles. Now the tempura was not airy and crunchy but thick and soggy. My ribeye on the other hand was OK. I'm really thankful he didn't ruin that expensive piece of meat. But I was highly disappointed with everything else. It costed $116 for two people and was not good. We ate here for my daughter's birthday. Our food was very good. Chef was good, energetic, funny, and decent on his tricks and showmanship. However, coming from California where every Tepanyaki restaurant I've eaten at includes fried rice with the meal, it's very disappointing that Tepanyaki Japanese Steakhouse and other Utah Tepanyaki restaurants don't include it in an already somewhat high-priced meal. I'm not sure who started the trend or "collusion" in Utah to not include fried rice, but IMO, it's unfortunate and potentially backfires as a profit center for the 3 Utah Tepanyaki restaurants that we've been to the last 3 years. Here's why...I would consider eating Tepanyaki for 3 or 4 other special occasions throughout the year, but when considering value between Utah Tepanyaki restaurants and other restaurant options, it's not worth adding $30-$50 on our bill just to enjoy fried rice that IMO should already be included with the meal--I wonder if many other families feel the same way? Another disappointing thing I've found with the Utah Tepanyaki restaurants we've eaten at is that no one has "Hot & Spicy" sauce that can be cooked into the meal and/or served on the side--again, a staple of our favorite 5-6 California Tepanyaki restaurants. If someone can point us to a Utah Tepanyaki restaurant that has either or both fried rice-included and Hot & Spicy sauce, we would be Happy Utah Tepanyaki Campers! It's unfortunate and ironic that we can currently get a better-value Tepanyaki meal in California. Unfortunately, the hibachi portion didn't start until 45 minutes later. Why it took so long, I'll never know. But good conversation, the house soup and house salad kept us busy until then. Our waitress was the sweetest human ever. I loved the service from start to finish. The hibachi chef was awesome. I've been to several different hibachi restaurants and this guy had jokes and tricks that I'd never witnessed before. When he was wrapping up, instead of throwing veggies for us to catch, he chopped up small pieces of shrimp! Tepanyaki definitely rivals my favorite hibachi restaurant back in Colorado as far as food. Cooked right in front of you is also always great. The menu also has a huge variety if you prefer sushi or anything else. Here's what they need to work on - it's really hit or miss with the chef. We came right after opening and our chef felt like he'd rather be anywhere but there. Lack of enthusiasm, didn't really talk to us, messed up on some simple tricks. It was clear he would never get hired by Benihana, haha. Also the price of the food has gotten really high for what's offered. $30-50 per person isn't worth the lacking experience. Also they had a wet mop smell in the restaurant that was hard to look past. The bathrooms, and hall leading to them, had a strong sewage smell. It's a pricey experience but you're getting a show. We had the Deluxe Special for 2. Soup and salad, steak skewers and wings for appetizers. There was fried rice, grilled veggies, shrimp, steak, and chicken. We even got ice cream for dessert. All of it was delicious. My scoring breakdown: Food was 5 stars, the chef earned 5 stars for his performance, and the waitress gets 3. She didn't pick up any dishes, glasses, etc. We were running out of room on the table. Each grill seats 8, so you do share your table with others, if they stick around. A of couple of college-age girls sat with us, but mysteriously disappeared after ordering their meal. Dinner includes soup, salad, entree and noodles/fried rice/or steamed rice. You can order an combination of protein entrees: steak, chicken, salmon, shrimp, lobster. I had the filet mignon medium rare, and it melts in your mouth. All courses were very flavorful and delicious. Be careful when paying; an 18% tip is mandatory and included in your total, however, they also include tipping options on your credit card slip. From the moment I walked in, I was amazed with the cleanliness, the art pieces, and the general vibe of the restaurant. The hosts, servers, and cook are extremely friendly and were willing to accommodate us in our small requests. For example, my mother loves to order extra egg for the fried rice. We also requested a side cup of the salad dressing to dip our food in. Trust me when I say you need to try this.... THIS. TASTES. AMAZING. The steak was definitely the best choice, but you cannot go wrong with chicken, shrimp, or a combination. After briefly relaying the purpose for our visit (i.e. my mother's birthday), they surprised her with a song and free birthday ice cream! NEGATIVES: this isn't necessarily to the detriment of this business, but my stomach (like many others') is quite sensitive to asian food, so I spent a great deal of time in the bathroom immediately after I returned home. Also, the price is quite high, but you get a decent amount of food, plus great service/entertainment. PRICE: approx. $25-30 per person. Arrived and was told our waiter had to take a break. Tried to order iced tea, however they were out of sweetener. Waiter arrived to take our order and we still hadn't gotten menus. Fast forward the cook arrives and is blah at best. Food had no salt and bland flavor. Medium rare filet was thin and cooked to medium well at best and so dry. Sushi arrived with no shrimp inside. Fun place for kids and family. Great food. The Hibachi chef went 3 for three flipping shrimp into our mouths. Last minute decision driving around to find a place to eat and came across this Hibachi joint again. Last time there was an hour wait so Lucky this time around finding two open seats with another party. Now all hibachi places are created equal In menus and service and if your lucky a Suntan comes free of charge! Our chef's entertainment factor was a 7-10. It was interesting that the other 7 people all ordered their steak RARE and mine was medium rare. The fact you have an option is marvelous as it's near impossible to get steak or burgers pink in Utah for two reasons, first they don't have chefs, mostly kids and second, burgers and steaks are less than an inch so it's near impossible to not have it overcooked. Not going into detail on the food or providing pictures because it's typical hibachi but the food was good, no complaints. I did have a spicy salmon roll as an appetizer that was ok. The people we shared the experience with were nice although the teenager next to us was zoned out with his head down in his arms disengaged from the event and mumbling, I think he was talking to someone or himself. The sprinklers went off at the grill table we were at causing hot oil to splash all over us. The fire department came and couldn't get the alarm to turn off so for a good 45 mins it still went off. As the uncreative name makes obvious, this is a teppanyaki restaurant. If you order one of the entrees, you will see it made in front of you on the teppanyaki grill. First, the soup and salad are served. Then, watch the chef grill the vegetables. While enjoying the vegetables, watch the chef fry the rice. Lastly, watch the the chef cook the proteins. The experience is as much about the food as it is about the presentation and theatrics. I ordered the combination chicken and shrimp, and my friend ordered the combination steak and chicken. The food was good, but there was not much theatrics. Still, it is enjoyable seeing your food made in front of you regardless of theatrics. Aside from teppanyaki, there is sushi. The menu items are priced on par with other teppanyaki and sushi restaurants. If you order sushi, you will not get to see it made in front of you. Therefore, I did not order sushi. Order teppanyaki since you are at a teppanyaki place. Parking is available around the restaurant. The staff is decent.
