The fried pork cutlet katsu here is very tasty. I had the curry version, and the sauce was very good. It came with a bit too much rice in the ratio, and the katsu was in long strips that made it hard to eat with chopsticks or a weak, plastic spork offered. Sorry- but I lived in Japan for a long time and this Japanese food isn't even close. I ordered the beef bowl and my husband ordered the pork cutlet bowl and his pork was soggy. Not like real pork cutlet at all. I only received like 5 small pieces of beef on top of a huge bowl of rice. We paid like $30 for mostly white rice, barely any beef and soggy pork. We came in right before they closed one day and it was a fun little date for us after how difficult covid has made everything the past year surrounding sit-down restaurants. If you are expecting a hodgepodge of different Japanese staples, this is not the place for you, as they specialize specifically in the traditional Japanese cuisine domburi. The Sukiyaki I got was a delicious new experience for me (as I'd never even heard of domburi before and was expecting to go for ramen, sushi, or something I've had previously) and I'd highly recommend anyone wanting a new experience that I haven't seen at any other Japanese restaurant, that this is the place to go! The dining area is very crisp and looks to be very new in its atmosphere, and I think that is going to be an attractive setting for anyone who finds this place. I come here whenever possible. Seeing the overall rating as anything less than 5 stars is really a mystery. Food is excellent. They are the real deal for Japanese food. And by real deal, I mean anyone could order anything on the menu and probably love it. It is true japanese food designed to be comfortable but as pleasing as possible. Karaage chicken alone makes the visit worthwhile. Tastes just like it does in japan. Food presentation is perfect. Every aspect of the restaraunt from customer interaction to paying your bill is done in the upmost satisfactory way. It makes me genuinely sad to see negative reviews for this place. You pay about $10 for a plate of filling and authentically made food. I dont think you could find quality and authenticity like this anywhere in utah. Even more amazing when you consider their prices. The customer service is perfect. Never been to any restaraunt that treated customers this well. The place itself sets a new bar for cleanliness and a comfortable feel. If someone rates it poorly without giving a good reason, it says more about the reviewer than the restaraunt. K's kitchen was a surprise find for my husband and I back in November. Since then I have returned a handful of times (even though I live an hour away). The food is delicious!!! Most importantly, the owner and staff are incredibly friendly!! The food is fresh and quick. The miso soups is the best I have enjoyed since living in Manhattan. We placed an order and went to pick up however the place was closed. The hours of operation said they were opened at 4. There was someone inside and we tried to get their attention but it did not work. We left the place and decided we would go to the store on Monday to resolve this issue. When we went, we simply asked if the food could be remade and the owner Phil said no. When that happened we asked for a refund and he also said no and became angry. The owner did say they called however the call to let us know the food was ready lasted 3 seconds due to them just hanging up the phone soon after we picked up. No indication it was them was made. On Monday my wife went to the store to see if we could still get the food we paid for but never got. She asked the owner if they could remake the food which the owner declined. When the owner declined she asked for a refund which he also declined. After my wife left the store she called to let me know the owner did not want to resolve the issue. So I decided to call just in case there was a misunderstanding. The owner refused to talk on the phone and claims everything we said is false. Really disappointed with his customer service. K's is tucked in this cozy little spot on Center Street in Provo and has a clean modern asthetic. The staff at the restaurant were super friendly. We got a table right away without having to wait, which is a bonus on Friday night, but I know there were some that came after who did have to wait. We decided to share the Katsudon Domburi large size and had two sides (the Goyza Dumplings and the Korokke). The Katsudon was well flavored and simple. There is a subtle, not overpowering sweetness to the pork that I enjoyed and the presentation was nice. The sides were great too...the Goyza had a lovely crispness but it wasn't packed with filling by any means. The Korokke didn't have as much flavor as I was expecting... I think they could do more with that, because the elements are good... just missed a little bit of flavor. Overall I really enjoyed our dinner here and the price and service was fantastic. read more

This place is an authentic Japanese "Home Cooking" experience. I remember eating at K's house when I served in Tokyo as a missionary, and had recurring dreams about her Karage (Japanese fried chicken). When I heard they were coming to the states to start a restaurant, I made stopping in my priority the next time I was in Provo. It did not disappoint. The main fare is Donburi, a bowl of rice with meat and veggies on top. My favorite so far is the Shiobutadon, but I'm also dying to try the Katsu Curry and Gyudon. Each bowl comes with miso soup("just like mom used to make" or okaasan no aji :) ) and a side of fresh made skemono (pickled veggies). Don't forget to get at least one side order of Karage- your trip would be incomplete without it. If you're a fan of real Japanese food, or have spent any time there, this is the place to go, and if you pay attention, you'll hear variety of patrons conversing in Japanese which only adds to authentic vibe. For folks who have only eaten Japanese food in the states, be warned- there is no Hibachi, or Sushi- this is a "taste of home" place that may be a little off the path. But fear not- I brought a group of Japanese neophytes here for a work event and after the surprise of not recognizing any of the menu items, each left filled and excited to come back.
