The salmon was slightly overcooked, but overall it was still a good dish and enjoyable, i also order Crispy Chicken Chili Creamy Ramen. The crispy chicken was sooo good and flavorful. But if you don't like coconut, this might not be for you, the broth definitely has that taste. Next time I'll probably ask if they can change the broth I just want to try . All good! However, the service at the end really threw me off. After I had already paid and signed the bill, the server approached me in a surprisingly harsh tone and said, "I need the signed receipt." I ordered the teriyaki chicken lunch special for $7.99 last week. And yes, you get what you pay for. But to me, the chicken seemed spoiled--I honestly wasn't even sure it was chicken. It gave off a smell that reminded me of rancid meat, and the taste was like rotting gym socks. I don't understand why a restaurant would serve food that comes across this way to a customer. Such a good place for any meals after a long day walking in the city. Perfect for whatever mood dining style you'd like: Dine-in or Take-out...the food will be well-prepared and yummy to your tummy. They have a fairly diverse menu here, from fresh sushi, to ramen, and everything in between. In my last visit around time, I came here a few times because the quality is good and loved every meal i had here. My first meal was a take-out Oyako Don (Steamed Chicken and Egg topped over rice) and it was such a comforting meal! I had taken a very long walk that day and this was just the best meal to reenergize me. The next time, I had to try their ramen and got the Shio Ramen with added spice and it was really just the perfect ramen! Came out piping hot, but really delicious. And third, got to try a selection of their fresh sushi, including their tuna and salmon pieces. All very fresh and good. The staff here are accomodating and attentive. I normally love coming to Kui Shin Bo's japantown location for the dinner special ($15 for 2 entrees and salad and soup) but I decided to come to the marina location to try their sushi and sashimi combo which has 3 pieces of nigiri, 8 pieces of California roll, and 9 pieces of sashimi for $36. Unfortunately I regret getting this sushi here. When I arrived to place the order, the fish looked really dull in the case, and not fresh. The tuna was super stringy that i couldn't eat the nigiri or sashimi and the salmon didn't taste fresh to me at all - it was almost too cured. The yellowtail was the only saving grace. I think if you're looking for sashimi this might not be the place, but KSB has pretty solid rolls and entrees otherwise. read more

I recently had an excellent one in Osaka at Okanomiyaki Chitoise (review: https://bit.ly/44a1Jru), so I've been on the hunt for one here in the Bay Area. I wasn't even aware that Kui Shin Bo, a J-Town staple (review: https://bit.ly/46sE8nv) had another location on Lombard. It's right off Van Ness, so traffic was busy near the lunch hour. However, there was no one in this space, and at first, there was no staff in front. I just sat myself down and perused the menu left on the table. Sure enough, they offer eight versions of okanomiyaki including a cheesesteak variation with mozzarella. Yeah, no thanks. I went the whole nine yards with the $19.99 Combo Okanomiyaki with grilled pork and seafood. What arrived bore only the most basic resemblance to the one I had in Osaka. The okanomiyaki had an odd oval shape to match the shape of the cast-iron grill that kept it warm (photo: https://bit.ly/3XDpgi3). Actually too warm as the bottom was developed a hard brown crust. The interior was rather spongey, rather frittata-like with the onions inside and most of the proteins on the top. The bonito flakes had already danced their last dance. However, the mayo drizzle was present and accounted for. Did I like it? Well, it made me speculate if Applebee's ever made okanomiyaki, it would look something like this only with a side of applesauce and a dollop of sour cream. I've been coming here for years but this is the last straw. I found a long piece of yarn (which they use to tie the chasu to make broth) in my black garlic ramen. I confronted the workers and they brushed it off saying that they can comp the ramen next time and offered me a free drink. I declined obviously and told them I won't be returning. Authentic japanese fare! I thought their soba and tempura was quite like the bowls I had in japan. I'm not sure what percentage buckwheat they are (probably not juwari), but they felt up there! Some shichimi in the soba went really well. They have a massive sushi menu, ramen and okonomiyaki, the last of which is hard to find. I think I'll be walking to here a fair bit the next year or so to try them all out. read more

Their prices are so high that it's impossible to eat here everyday. Their Tekka Maki is like 12 bucks and dang..it's tiny! Their fried oyster over rice is over 20 bucks. Three pieces of big(not too big) with one egg over rice is enough for one person but that's small person like me. If you are Dwayne Johnson or any normal side man. This will not fill you up. Forget about sharing. That ain't happening since it's not enough to share and good enough that you don't want to share either. I had their tendon but it didn't come over rice. Rice is on the side in a bento Togo box. So far that's about it that I ate. Soooooo to be continued. Oh the inside atmosphere is easy with clean space. Kui Shin Bo has a giant menu and still manages to make everything delicious. How they do this is beyond me, but I am not complaining! The Spicy Crunchy Roll here is made with real (yes, real!) crab and is as good as any roll I've had in the city. The Unagi Don features a generous portion of eel over rice in a rich, glazey brown sauce. My third and final test was trying the Spicy Cheesy Ramen, which had a beautiful balance of spicy umami flavor. All three dishes were out of this world. When a restaurant can excel in three distinct areas like this, it says a lot about the skill of the chef and how much they care about the food they're making. I've ordered from here twice during COVID and have been quite happy both times. My favorites are the unagi don and spicy crunch roll (crab meat, cucumber, avocado, masago, fried shallots). Get in my belly! Kui Shin Bo offers some of the best sushi I've had in recent memory. I warn you not to let your appetite get ahead of you because Kui Shin Bo's specialty rolls are really dense. The Rainbow Roll ($15.49, including fresh crab, $2 supplement) is a fresh crab California roll topped with a multi-hued assortment of yellowtail, salmon, red tuna, avocado, shrimp and saba. (I thought the saba was mackerel because of its shiny, silver skin). Sensational. The Volcano Roll ($14.99) was another gigantic speciality roll of shrimp tempura, crab, tuna and salmon- crunchy and delicious. Luckily I started my meal with the lighter fare of hamachi sashimi (12 pieces, $17.49) otherwise with their filling rolls, I never would've gotten to it. The hamachi is fresh and buttery with thick slabs of deliciously fresh yellowtail. I could eat their hamachi sashimi every night it was that good. It's hardly a surprise I had to cold plate a portion of the specialty rolls- and an entire California roll with masago I didn't touch. I placed this order for delivery and it was speedy and they included the extra ginger I requested. The best part for me?
