Immediately walking in, my first impressions was that we were underdressed and in the wrong location because it looks so nice. With that being said, the service and treatment we received were beyond amazing, much like the ambiance of the place. We make our usual pitstop in Bakersfield for dinner before heading all the way to Vegas from the east bay, so we are a bit picky with our pick. We took a big chance as there's only 5 reviews, but all 5 stars! When we arrived without reservation, my family of 7 were given the long table in the back, where it felt cozy and private. The food here is pretty great, comparable to the bay and Japan. I would like to add that they are a bit heavy on the dressings and sauces, but some may prefer it that way. My favorite roll is the In & Out salmon roll, which is wrapped in soy paper. I love that they have soy paper options as the texture is just amazing. Special mention to the chicken fried rice as it had an umami flavor I didn't expect from a sushi spot. We had to wait a bit for our food as they received many online orders while we were dining it (takeouts missing out, they have a lovely ambiance and waitresses), so we collected many items on the house for the time. It took almost 2 hours to dine, and they were beyond generous with their offers. Remember to check in for a free soda! As this place is new, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt for trying to figure out multitasking with many orders, and timing. Their ambiance, customer service, and food is already perfect. Our friends took us out to dinner and they wanted us to try their favorite sushi restaurant, KUMA sushi. We were greeted quickly as we walked in and initially were told it would be a 20 min wait. We went to sit at the bar and then staff instead, showed us to a table near the back. The waitress was very attentive throughout the evening. She took our drink and appetizer order first. We ordered edamame, garlic edamame, crunch avocado bomb and the crispy rice with spicy tuna. The edamame tasted as we expected. The garlic edamame were sitting in a pool of what tasted like a slightly spicy soy infused garlic sauce. The crispy rice was very similar to other crispy rice appetizers from other restaurants but we always enjoy it. The crunch avocado bomb was good but we struggled to figure out exactly how to eat it other than just mashing pieces of it into our plates. We would have loved maybe some wonton chips to dip into it. For our entrees, my husband ordered a jalapeno, asparagus avocado roll and cucumber and avocado roll. He was please surprised at the amount of avocado included in his rolls. I ordered the popcorn lobster roll. The roll was good but what made the dish was the little popcorn lobster pieces on top. They had such a great crunch to them, it really made the roll. Lastly we tried the Red Bull roll. I was surprised it had a thin piece of filet draped across the top of the roll. As I ate it, I felt the filet blended in so well with the overall taste of the roll. I also think the overall price point for KUMA is a selling point for the restaurant. We have definitely been to many sushi restaurants that are way more expensive and not nearly as tasty and leave you wanting more.
