The marital unit and I came for the lunch buffet today. I will start off by saying that we have been to dozens of Indian restaurants all around the country, and most of the time it's for the lunch buffet. Every once in a while, I get a strong craving and will have to seek out a well reviewed Indian establishment wherever we are. The lunch buffet is priced at $11.99 and includes a nice variety of dishes that are very flavorful and well prepared. The 2 standouts at this particular meal were the palak/saag paneer and the naan! Both were among my favorites anywhere, ever. I am now a massive fan of kurrywalah!!! Will definitely be back as soon as I get those cravings again; probably next week. read more

These were more than enough for 5 adults. All three of the curry dishes (chicken and eggplants) were too salty for our liking. The shrimp biryani was a bit too blend. The curry dishes come with a side of rice. The naans were not bubbly or chewy. If i were to order again, I'd add a note about the saltiness. read more

I decided to go back again, which was always the plan since the food is unbelievable (best in Katy for sure). Met the owner's wife and had a great conversation with her! Exactly what I was expecting the first time around. Super dignified and respectful. I will leave the details of the conversation out but long story short, she agreed that the previous visit wasn't a good experience for a customer, especially a regular customer. When she saw we were ordering our regular choices, she suggested a different appetizer (samosa chat) and a different chicken entree (kadai chicken). And as always, her suggestions were awesome! We usually do take out for this place but we brought friends here whose college-aged daughter is taking a class called Modern South Asia and she wanted to try Indian food. The gentleman who assisted us must have been the owner... he was very informative and engaging... he even let us take a peek at his tandoor oven. Every dish was delicious, full of amazing flavors...one of our group was gluten free and he made a point to bring her out a GF appetizer (we had ordered appetizers that were not Celiac friendly)... several of their dishes are GF. For those who are hesitant to try, go through the menu and ask for recommendations... get a veg, a paneer dish (homemade cheese), a couple protein dishes and maybe a rice dish and of course, the bread basket - all different types - roti, onion kulcha, garlic naan, plain naan. It was my first time ordering from here. The garlic naan was not any different than most places, maybe even less tasteful. The lachha paratha was actually good, it was unique and fresh tasting. The chicken tikka masala included large boneless pieces but was of a dry and chalky quality. The sauce was lacking in taste and was fairly watery. The tandoori chicken was asked to be made spicy and it was decently spicy for an Indian. It's container though, was littered with soggy pieces of sliced onions and green bell peppers. The egg Biriyani was very tasteful actually. The flavors were great and had plenty of spices to give it a full taste. There were enough bar boiled eggs although it may have been fried a little too long, but it wasn't a major issue. Lastly, the mango lassi was a big disappointment. It did a great job of false advertising when I saw it behind the counter. It looked ten times better than it tasted. It lacked any mango tastes and sweetness. My wife actually thought it tasted sour. I am not an executive at a huge reputable firm like Xfinity but I know how to respond to a negative feedback. My response would be: "We are extremely sorry you were not satisfied with our food and service. Please give us another chance to make it right for you. We hope to see you again." However, because the bhindi was bright green and uncooked, paneer was extremely spicy and then once fixed tasted like tomato paste and hear rude comments from your wife, like "I did not make it", I will not be visiting again. I actually found this gem while browsing UberEATS to see what I could have delivered, but Michelle and I decided to get out of the house and visit this restaurant. It's a quaint, yet cozy little place in a shopping center. The server told us they'd been there for about a year and a half. She was nice and didn't mind that we were there 20 minutes before they were closing, until dinner (they close at 2:30 pm and reopen at 5:30pm). As an appetizer, Michelle ordered the Chicken Tikka Samosa, which I hadn't had in a long time. The spices, meat and potato mixture was very tasty. I had the Chicken Tikka Masala and Michelle had a Biryaniwalah Chicken dish and they both were AMAZING! They also give you a lot of food for your money. We wound up taking some home. I found this spot while visiting my mom last year. We both love Indian, and it's close by. I've had takeout twice, and it's delicious. Last night we had the lamb korma, chana masala and garlic naan. Disagreement occurred when I ordered the buffet and the server told me the "Naan" came with the buffet. Had just a little left on my plate and requested a "little more Naan". The server promptly brought out another full order of Naan. When checking out, as they don't give you the bill at the table, I saw an additional $2.49 on the bill for "Naan" the cashier informed me that the first order is free, any additional orders are charged at the nominal rate. Food is good but customer service is horrible! I placed an online order and when I went to pick it up they rudely said I had to call to confirm so basically I went there for nothing. NOWHERE online do they say " hey you need to call to place the order" why offer online ordering in the first place! First off, the food was good. But the reason for the low rating is... the entire staff was either: not wearing the mask correctly, or not wearing a mask at ALL. Two of the front-of-house and/or servers... the guy wore his mask under his nose, and then when talking to people, he would pull the mask away from his mouth, so wtf? The woman just didn't have a mask on at all. Then I saw some kitchen staff come out to the front, and they were also wearing their masks incorrectly. Which made me queasy since they're the ones cooking our food. And THEN! A woman comes in and isn't wearing a mask, and they let her in and let her sit down like no problem! Ummm... does no one realize there's a pandemic? And THEN, the people waiting for their to go orders were all waiting inside the restaurant. I mean, typically during this pandemic, people are asked to wait outside or in their cars and they'll get a text or call when their food is ready. But nope. Kurrywalah has become one of my favorite Indian restaurants and I can't wait to go back. Delicious sauces, tender meat. In the past, I have only had Indian food during work lunches because my wife doesn't care for the Indian heat. What I like about Kurrywalah is that you pick a curry AND the level of spice (mild/medium/spicy). Finally, an Indian restaurant I can take my wife to. We have ordered chicken samosas as an appetizer. I am used to having samosas come in between two large pancakes/tortillas, but these samosas looked like small empanadas. Very tasty, but my wife didn't care for them too much. I have also had the delicious vegetable samosas, but they were a bit too spicy for my daughter. On our first visit, we were served complimentary papadum and sauces, the seed bread/crackers that the server called "poppers". I liked the spice level in the papadum, but they were a bit spicy for the wife. For curries, I like the variety of meats and curry sauces available on the menu. I have had the cashew cream curry with lamb, and the sampler tray with five various curries. My wife has had dishes of cilantro curry with chicken and the spinach with chicken. All dishes were delicious and the heat levels were perfect for my wife and myself. My wife claims that her leftover curries were even better the next day. The sampler has 5 chef-selected curries served in a compartmentalized tray with rice, dipping sauces and a dessert. You can choose between vegetable and meat-based curries. My curries included spinach with chicken, lamb, chickpea masala, chicken masala, and butter chicken. I enjoyed every curry, but you get more for your money when purchasing a single dish instead of getting the sampler tray. We took our teenage daughter on our second visit, and she enjoyed some shrimp fried rice and naan. She was not very fond of the sauces, but we may try again in the future. Desserts are good at KW. I was given a delicious mango pudding on my sampler tray and would definitely order this again. We have also had the rice pudding. It is not typical rice pudding, but is very thick. My wife and I enjoyed it. The waiters are always very helpful when we need ordering suggestions. We also do not have to wait very long for our food. Recommended Katy destination. read more

This place had been on my list to try for a while and boy am I disappointed. First, it's expensive for the portion sizes you get and second, the service experience we had was way less than stellar for a family run place. The service started off welcoming then our server left for the night, the woman who took over was rude and ready for us to leave at 9pm. Their website says they're open until 9:30, we had barely finished eating or paying, and there was another table still eating. While we were packing up our leftovers she came up to our table and said "just so you know, we're closed"... $ 90 for 3 appetizers, 3 naans, and 3 mains PLUS they charge you for rice here?? The chicken tikka masala was our favorite main dish, but all 3 mains had almost no flavor at all which was a major letdown. Loved the food! Very authentic. Almost identical to good home made food! The owner is very friendly and takes care of his customers. The only reason for a 4 star and not 5 is that in terms of non vegetarian, the only choice available is chicken in three different recipes. All very tasty indeed, but a little variation of fish/shrimp for a possible $2.00 up charge would be just great! Kurrywalah Katy - this is usually one of our favorite spots for Indian food but we had terrible customer service tonight from the owner. We ordered Paneer Makhani (w/no nuts or cashews), cheese naan, chicken tikka naan, and chili chicken dry. My wife has a severe nut allergy so we asked at least 10x to verify the paneer dish was made with no nuts/cashews. My wife took one bite and immediately starting having an allergic reaction. We called the restaurant and the owner pretty much told us to kick rocks. His response was to go get the food tested. No offer to remake the dish/no offer to refund the individual item. What happened to this place? My husband and I have been coming here frequently over the past five years because it was really good. We had a negative experience several months ago (cold food in buffet line) and decided to take a break and today was our first day back. Unfortunately, it was another bad experience. Our chicken curry was bland but what really did it for us was seeing a cockroach crawling along the wall. When we pointed it out to the waitress, she went over and talked to somebody from the kitchen about it and they both chuckled over it. She came by later and apologized after my husband pressed her on the issue. She said the place next-door has had a roach problem and they've been fumigating and the roaches have been coming over. They also have been trying to deal with the current problem. Needless to say, we lost our appetite. They didn't offer a discount or refund. We will not be going back. read more
