Still no sushi on the revolving belt since covid :( but food comes out at a good timeframe (rather order it fresh anyway). Fish and poke are decent quality and flavored nice but my only downside is their portions of rice in the rolls. So... much... rice. My boyfriend can barely finish a 4pc roll because it's usually like 75% rice every time. Even my avocado roll is packed with so much rice. We usually eat the rolls last because we know we'd get full quick. Reduce the rice and we'd definitely order waaaay more food without feeling full. Prices also usually get raised every couple years or so but it's ok. Minor cons but other than that though, love coming here for quick and cheap sushi! read more

We went tonight out because we wanted to eat dinner out for a change. The staff was nice enough and was able to take us in right away, but if it wasn't for the stuffiness in the restaurant we would've gone in. I'm not sure if the AC is working in there or not and I get that it's summer, but that's a big part of the reason we wanted to go out and eat tonight. Some decent sushi in comfortable climate. But for it not being too busy, the staff look like they're all about to have a heat stroke and I don't know if I'm comfortable subjecting myself to that either. Conveniently located near the movie theater this sushi place offers scrumptious food and hearty meal. Upon entering a hand sanitizer is available to use. We were greeted and seated promptly. Glad we came in to before the crowd went in. It's been a while since bandit and I got into ala carte sushi and I was really excited for this one. FOOD: * Tobiko - good and t'was fun to eat! I enjoyed this one. * Ika Karaage - least favorite. Not crunchy enough and t'was on a bland side. * Sesame Ball - my favorite! Chewy inside and has a good flavor overall. A bit greasy from the outside but other than that so yummy. Do not skip ordering this one. * Shrimp Tempura Udon - hearty and flavorful. The broth is really seasoned well while the tempura has a good crunch on it. Service is fast forward and serving the food doesn't take them that long. Giving them an overall 4 stars, but the night shift is worth five stars all day long ! The service, food, etc is all five star at night. Daytime not so much. Daytime the chicken is overcooked and the timing of the food is terrible. Sometimes we get udon or tofu after we've finished almost everything or they just forget to put in the order. Went here last night, a Sunday night. We arrived about 7pm and we waited a bit. After we were seated my first surprise was the prices. I haven't been here in a few years and I couldn't believe my eyes. The top tier plate was almost $18. I could buy a plate lunch for that. But oh well, we are already here. We ordered some sashimi and it was pretty good. For $12 I expect it to be atleast decent and it was better than that. The fried foods that we ordered was alright, but their soft shell crab. It was one of the largest ordered we have seen. The other sushi wasn't bad itself, I think thier quality is WAY better than genki. I mean it better be if I am paying double. Now the service, I read a complaint about a female employee with dyed blue hair, and she was working tonight. She was great to us. She checked on us every so often and service was pretty quick. It wasn't a busy night, but her and ther other female that was working were constantly moving. They were refilling drinks, bringing orders to the tables and taking care of the front. After a disappointing visit to another sushi spot, we decided to visit kurukuru. What a difference! Although items were more expensive per item, kurukuru more than made up for it with quantity and service. The servers checked on us at least ten times, refilling water and ensuring we were ok. And just across Refinery Honolulu we found this KuruKuru Sushi and got curious so my wife and I decided to grab kines here. Food I ordered: Hamburger Steak Bento - it was filling and the steak is juicy and tasty. I love how it compliments inside my mouth with the corn kernel on the side. You guys should try their hamburger! So ono! Plain Udon - glad I ordered it! Got envious with my wife as I saw her slurping with goodness, and since I got a bit chilly I decided to get myself one and it was a straightforward taste. Pork Tonkatsu - incredibly crunchy and juicy inside. It has a nice amount of spice on the breaded part and the meat is surprisingly not dry. Whatever the sauce they used - it's perfection to my tastebud! Sesame Ball - save the best for last! Ultimate favorite finisher grub in this eatery! The dynamite roll is also excellent. The prices are listed on the menu card and they are all decently affordable. They are located inside Kahala mall, right next to the movie theater. They do check your vaccination status so just make sure you have either a virtual or physical copy of your vaccination card available if you are dining in. COVID-era review Best quality for the value? Best value for the quality? You get the point. Good prices, good quality. Park on the less popular part of the mall's upper deck, walk down the stairs, and you're already right there. So impressed at how much KK has really upped their takeout game during the pandemic. They answer their phones quickly, don't make mistakes, and orders are prepared quickly. I do find that they still tend to underestimate the speed of the orders being prepared but it's OK because I'm always running a few minutes late anyway. Pad their estimated prep time with an extra 3-5 minutes and you're good to go. I'm definitely on the "pandemic-cautious" end of the spectrum lol and am not eager to sit at a booth or next to strangers just yet but for now I've been happy to be able to order reliable ala carte sushi from what's evolved into a really solid takeout spot. read more

Went to do a little shopping and wanted to go to Kahala mall since I haven't been there in awhile. Well I needed to go to the restroom so I asked my husband to transport me down to the theater side for the restroom before we decided to eat lunch. After that he made a suggestion where to eat noodles or sushi. So I said sushi. Was well pretty full so we had no choice but to sit at the counter. I thought it would have more selection of sushi but very limited maybe because during covid they had to only take out and not dine in. But now there back for dine in but the sushi you still need to order from the server and not pick up on your own with their resolving track that's in front of you. Looking into the restaurant from the Kahala mall hallway, there's nothing striking about this place. It's a typical conveyor belt sushi place, so might think that the quality of the food would be mediocre at best. But as they say, you can't judge a book by its cover. The food here is excellent! Four of us dined here this evening and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We sat in a booth, which allowed us to interact with our servers. The service was excellent! Both servers frequently checked in on us to take orders and refill our water and tea. They were attentive without being intrusive and as a former server myself, I appreciated the level of service they provided! As for the food, the nigiri and rolls we ordered were exceptional. The fish was super-fresh and arrived nicely chilled. And though all the sushi I had was great, I was particularly impressed with the hamachi nigiri I ordered. And lest I forget, the cuts of fish were much larger in comparison to many places we've frequented over the years. In addition to the sushi, we started out with some chicken karaage which was excellent as was the tofu appetizer and the croquette. We also got small servings of their ahi, salmon, and spicy hamachi poke. Fantastic! We were all impressed at the quality of the food. It had been a while aince I ordered sushi ala carte so I forgot how pricey it could be. I asked for hand rolls to make things easier to eat in the car but maybe with the mask I was misunderstood. It was nice to get out to kahala Mall after a day at the beach, walking around we noticed Kurukuru sushi was just about to open with only one family in line. Soon as they opened, our temperatures were checked, we were seated and immediately started ordering. No bullet train or conveyor, you order directly in person and the service was just as quick! However, we ordered salad, inari, tuna mayo, California roll, vegetable tempura, and shrimp tempura udon to start. These are simple sushi but satisfying dipped in wasabi and shoyu. When you first walk into KKS, you must sign in at the podium. Here's what you need to do: 1. Write your name. 2. Write the amount of people in your party. 3. Your seating request (counter or booth) 4. Wait for your party to be called. That's it...simple! Once you get seated, you are greeted with a cup of hot green tea and a cup of iced water. Then, the waitress/waiter will ask for your order. If you choose not to order, you can select your sushi/food items from the conveyor belt that revolves around the guest. We came here for dinner one night. It was my daughter's first time going to a revolving sushi place. She was so enthralled with the whole experience. We sat at a booth around 5:30 and it wasn't very crowded. But the conveyor belt had nothing on it. Instead they were bringing the sushi out to the tables. I asked when they start putting everything on the belt and they said about 6:30. The only thing that kept going round and round was the wasabi. We ordered from the menu and got a variety of things: spicy salmon, chicken karaage, geso karaage, salmon, shrimp, crab mayo, shrimp tempura, and udon. The chicken karaage is good here. It has a good crunch to it. I asked my husband if he liked it and he said he thinks mine is better , oh wells. The spicy salmon was good. And my daughter ate up all her udon and her fried shrimp. Overall it was good but I can see how you can get carried away at this place. You look at the menu and you just want to sample everything and then your bill gets higher and higher. I wasn't able to pick up last couple of times so I used your delivery service (Bite Squad) I noticed you guys don't have Spicy Tuna Nigiri on your online menu on that website. I've ordered the Temaki and asked if they could make it nigiri style instead, and it would show up at my door the way I requested which was great! This time the special instructions didn't go through and when I called them and asked if they could switch the Temaki like they have in the past for the Nigiri style they said no. There's a price change there, okay unfortunate but I get it not everyone's going to accommodate. This is not where the issue lies, I let them know their website omitted this item and they assured me that's Bite Squad's fault and Bite Squad's fault alone. If I'm not mistaken, Bite Squad takes the menu YOU provide them and places it on the website. I looked at updated table menus from pictures on YELP: Red Plate: Spicy Tuna. There's no different word for it. I double checked again, and said I think you guys need to update it since honestly that's kind of one of your most popular sellers, no? The person insisted on the phone that I was incorrect, and that the "ENTIRE menu" is there but also admitted they've never used or looked at the bite squad site for the restaurant. Rather than gaslighting me, your employee just needed to say they'd have someone check it and was sorry they couldn't accommodate my request. During dinner hours the wait times can be pretty bad so we usually only come during slower times. Convenient location in Kahala Mall near the movie theatre. Customer service is okay, I've never felt that any of the servers were going "above and beyond", but I've also never had much trouble flagging someone down when we need something because they do have a large amount of staff relative to the amount of customer seating. The sushi do not have smears of wasabi on them. There are jars of wasabi on conveyer belt if you're a wasabi fan like me. The deep fried pumpkin sweet and crispy. Curry udon lightly spiced. The first store opened in Pearl Kai Shopping Center and for a very long time, it became my very favorite fresh sushi place. Then more recently though it's been a pretty long time, one of the guys there thought to open this location. Although the same name and concept, the two locations are completely different. I mean, they really try to be as good as #1 but something is always a bit lacking. What's lacking? The service is not always consistently efficient The food quality is pretty good but some finesse is missing At least a year ago when they offered huge salmon and ahi poke bowls, that really caught my attention and I was a fan. But I returned this past weekend and geez now they've completely changed up their menu to make it even harder to enjoy eating here. I do love it that they now serve udon and curry (rice or udon)but that's about it. Their don bowls which were a super great deal are now smaller portions into a miso soup bowl and price is much much higher! :( Curry - Just with rice :) The $5.95 curry comes with curry in a bowl (little larger than a miso soup bowl) on top some rice. The rice is al dente. The curry isn't the most flavorful but if they did make it more flavorful, I'd be a realllly happy camper! I also ordered their $5.95 seared salmon sushi and $5.95 onion mayo salmon but for the price and quality, the salmon pieces were just okay and not huge at all like I'm used to like when I'm at my favorite sushi place similar to Kuru Kuru in Kapolei. What I also noted is the rice rectangles for their fish are not at all flavorful: The right seasoning makes it sushi; without flavoring makes it just rice and fish! Customer service: It's all about a quality product and nice friendly helpful staff. Wait staff - Friendly to a point but not genuinely so. It's like they don't really want to be here but just have to be. The items you order are brought promptly but it's like they're hesitant more than able to be proactive to your needs. They'll refill your green tea and water but usually only if you ask which generally means they're not bothering to monitor your drinks at all. If you want your check even long after you've stopped eating, you'll have to ask for it and they won't even have anticipated it. Sushi chefs - Your orders come quickly efficiently and correct. They really make no attempt to commiserate with us customers at all, not even a hello hi how are you but they will call out your order loud and clear. Only problem is when you look at them in reply (to say thanks!), they either don't look at you or they act as though they never said a word! Heehee Kinda shy chefs, yeah? :) No need TV - They often have a Japanese chef video playing on the wall in the chef area but really they wouldn't need it if they just got to know their customers. New Menu and Pricing (on 9/16/2018): I also don't agree with the higher price changes they've made to their menu. If they just served a yummy, value-packed product for the money, they wouldn't have problems keeping the place full of customers. Make it FUN & Inspiring to eat here: Now a place like this should be a SUPER FUN inspiring place to eat that when you look right and left at your neighbor's plates, all you desire is to reach over and have a taste bc the conveyor belt does not have it in front of you right at that verrrrry second. And second, bc they are not only just so delicious but provide so much great value that they give the higher priced sushi restaurants a run to try to win back the customers you won over! Save for the Zippy's Kahala Mall next door that incorporates a sushi bar/fancy bento box type restaurant and the Maguro sushi restaurant in Kaimuki Business Complex, there's no other sushi restaurant like it in the Kaimuki, Kahala Mall, or Aina Haina vicinity so the popularity of this Kuru Kuru should not be a problem at all to accomplish. I love having a great quality sushi place when I'm visiting the Kahala Mall especially since fish is my thing! If they are aiming to be a five star location, they have a lot to work on in terms of menu, pricing, and staff engagement including increased level of service so that their place can once again be filled with customers. Tonight I was so disappointed with my meal. I ordered an Omurice for myself and other rice dishes for the family. We've never had issues with this place and enjoyed eating from here since the take out meals are reasonably priced. But I think for myself this will be the last time I eat here. As I was eating my meal and got to the half way point, I found a long piece of hair in my Omurice! Disgusting! How did that piece of hair get in there? Especially since the workers' hair are tied back! weird because if their hair is tied back, it's very unlikely that a hair that long would escape the hair tie! Well that ruined my appetite! I called to let them know what had happened. They didn't seem surprised. Must happen on a regular basis... The girl on the phone was nice and offered me a refund for my dish or a discount when I go back to eat. Well...not planning on eating there again, so she said the will refund me. Even though they are willing to give a refund I can't go back to eat there thinking how careless they are in handling food. Luckily my family's meal had no hair. If you are looking for the "fast food" of sushi, I'd say this is it. Service is great each time we have been there, but I won't say the quality of fish is there. Growing up in Hawai'i, we are quite spoiled... we have some really good sushi places -really fresh. So that's what's a bit disappointing. read more
