I have seen this place across the street from my apartment and decided to order online which was easy. Delivery was quick and the food was good. So glad i got this and mot just take out chinese food. The fried rice with beef had a mix of chopped up veggies and tasted fresh. The shrimp tempura and sauce was really good. Defs worth the price for what u get. Kushi hit a homerun with me last night. This place has blown up due to good write ups in Newsday & NYT, which caught my attention, as well as some great reviews here on Yelp. The staff is attentive, friendly, and service was quite quick. The prices are reasonable, not the least expensive sushi I've ever had in the area but certainly much less than many other joints. We tried the Tuna on the Beach salad, which was laden with tuna, black pepper, tomato, assorted salad veggies. It was quite enjoyable! The tuna flavor was very subtle, sometimes overpowered by the tomatoes, but it is a nice was to start the meal. We also previewed the Nesconset roll, which will be on their next menu reboot, and liked that roll very much. I think the winning roll here was the Tom Roll, a roll with tuna and avocado inside, and a nice thick piece of fried eel on top, the eel was tender, warm, and really set off the flavor of the fish inside. We also ordered some rolls fully customized, and the chef gladly made them for us, and made them well. We sampled their yellowtail in a handroll, and at the suggestion of a friend, Eric toasted up the seaweed paper, coated it with sesame oil, and added some chopped scallion at our request. I have to say their yellowtail was extremely fresh and yummy as all hell. The presentation on the sashimi for two plate was beautiful (expect pics from Gaurav P). I only tried the black pepper tuna (AMAZING) and the octopus (nothing to speak of). We also ordered a King Crab roll but it never came, sadly. They have a nice selection of Sake as well. I will definitely be returning to Kushi because it's pretty friggin close to my house and I hate having to drive to Nassau for affordable sushi (the gas itself outweighs the cost savings anyway). Love this place. Our go to spot for sushi in the area that isn't overpriced. The place is small and we just about always do takeout but service is always great- even the delivery/takeout experience. Portions are generous and full of avocado on specialty rolls (love it). Highly suggest the Victoria Roll for something different, the Volcano Roll is always always a win as is the Yellowtail Submarine Roll. A few months ago we had a few odd things occur (super red salmon in a Philadelphia Roll- clearly a sub in and a sweet potato roll that wasn't cooked through). We didn't complain as it didn't ruin the meal so there wasn't a resolution. Either way, all places are prone to inconsistencies and those orders tended to be later night meals on a Sunday/Tuesday night. Bottom line, worth going to. read more

So gross. Ordered spicy tuna roll. What I received looked like throw up (not joking) and was clearly made with canned tuna fish. I added a photo of it on here. It was seeping out of the bottom and was watery. I threw it out and will never order from there again. My husband made a brave attempt to taste it, and said it actually tasted like bad canned tuna fish. Disappointed is not the word. read more

How is it possible that I have lived Approx. 2.5 minutes away from this place and never tried it? Shame on me... Went today with my silly health obsessed daughter- for lunch.It was GREAT. It is christmas eve so it was a nice friendly calm place to be compared to the insanity blooming everywhere else with the last minute shoppers. Not only was the service super friendly, but fast AND thoughtful. I didn't have to ask for anything else they knew what I needed like ....like your mom would...anticipating everything. I thought...I hope the food is as good.. My daughter got the sushi lunch which came with soup & salad about $11 -I got the three rolls for the same which also came with salad and soup. The ginger citrus dressing on the salad was fit for a god. I had this before but not as good as this place. I also ordered shumai and tempura appetizers. all delish. I also noticed they really give a huge amount of vegetables for the tempura, including green beans. I was impressed. The dipping sauce had a bit of lemon pulp and ginger added it was delightful and refreshing! The fish was very fresh and the did not mess up a thing on my pain in the butt changes to everything which usually happens anywhere i go. The chef kindly sent out a "crazy salmon appetizer" complementary for us to try. I hare salmon but it looked interesting so I said hell with it and tried one. Do you know why there is no picture of it for you to see here? Because I inhaled them. I didn't even pause to take a picture it was so good. AHHHH I definitely want to go back and eat all the sushi again. I ordered so much and I honestly thought my bill will rank over 1 bill. but it was around $75 including tax and tip. not so bad wow $75? not really. Especially for what I ordered. - Dozen of oysters - shared with my fellow derby mate V-Rap. We definitely able to eat all the foods. My food partner in crime. - I ordered the Sashimi platter that has 21 pieces of fresh fish. - 3 California Uni (sea urchin) sushi - I should have just ordered the sashimi...I end up not really eating the rice - 1 or 2 eel sushi. Not sure why but it's a must with rice. Can't eat it by itself. I probably can but I prefer to eat it with rice. I believe I ordered 2 because wtheck...1 is just not enough. - a whole order of sashimi clam. If you saw the picture post I posted on their yelp page...it's a beautiful thing. Definitely tasty, but I also think it's a required taste...same goes with the Uni. I had my friends try it and one of them definitely didn't like it. I do want to come back and get the whole order of the scallops. Now that looks amazingly good. So I am so going to be back here for sure. - We also got a free appetizer from the Chef. Thank You Chef. It was delicious. Forgot the name of it but if you show the picture I have posted to the chef...you should try it. I was completely full after all that. next time no rice =] The service was great. they came when needed and didn't interrupt us when we were in deep conversation because I have been at a restaurant where the waitress kept coming back and talking it up...especially when we were talking. At this moment, my list for Kushi Sushi stands at 38. That's 38 different dishes I've tried here. Sure, not every dish is an absolute winner here, but I'd say at least 2/3 of then I would and have ordered again. People ask me why I have such a hard time recommending things despite my list and all I can tell then is there's too many good rolls. I wish I could have a full menu buffet of this place just so I can figure out what my favorite things are here but to be perfectly honest I doubt it I would actually make progress. In any case, a few things I would try your first time here (things that stand out in my memory right now): Crazy Salmon (Appetizer) Eric Roll Koo Roll Other than that, getting chirashi is a pretty safe bet. Their salmon and mackerel is pretty solid. Again, it depends on your taste, but almost everything here is great. As an added bonus, the chef will often give you a dish courtesy of the house. On that note, the service here is also stellar. If you don't mind a small selection of CDs, you can come here every day and get to know the wait staff--most of whom are always there. They're extremely friendly, patient, and accommodating. If you become a regular, the entire staff will greet you warmly every time you come. While this place doesn't always fill up, there isn't a lot of seating (probably less than 30 people max.). I'd make a reservation if you're coming for dinner, though I've rarely had problems. After trying virtually every sushi place near me, including some decent names like Kotobuki and Aji 53, I can safely say that Kushi is simply a cut above. It's not LA sushi, but it's among the closest you'll get on LI. Maybe I'll update this when I finally hit every item on the menu. I certainly hope to. read more

The staff here are extremely pleasant- and flexible! After a warm greeting, the hostess seated my party of three for a full dinner half an hour before closing. The tea was perfect. The spicy salmon and volcano roll I ordered tasted fresh and flavorful. Doesn't look fantastic from the exterior, and the inside is small and simple, but the sushi is far from plain! Eric (chef) is warm and inviting, his masterful creations not only taste fresh and delicious but they look like something from an art museum! I ordered the 3-roll lunch special (spicy salmon roll, shrimp tempura roll, tokyo roll) which came with soup and salad. A solid experience every time! Fresh and satisfying! I came here for dinner the other night and was VERY happy with the quality and quantity of the food I ordered. We ordered the Volcano roll, Tiger roll, and another roll that I cannot remember the name of. The rolls were all very enjoyable and presented nicely. But what I really want to rave about is their Bento Box! OMGGGGGGG Chicken teriyaki with veggies, beef negimaki with veggies, 4 (or 5?) shumai, california roll, and rice. This dish is more than generous! Very tasty, fresh, and simply delicious. I would definitely order it again. In addition, we received a small complimentary tasting-plate from the chef (some sort of salmon sashimi presentation....it was certainly a nice gesture). The restaurant is very small, so you may want to call to make a reservation on a Friday/Saturday night (or you could just go to Onsen in Oakdale....their "sister" restaurant). Our waitress was nice and attentive, and one chef in particular was very friendly, greeting us when we walked in (he even came over after dinner to ask us how we liked our experience). I ordered a sushi platter from the menu (see picture) which was excellent. It came with miso soup which was especially good too. The watermelon slices at the end was a nice touch. Staff is very friendly. As for the service, although they are pleasant about it, they are not in the least accommodating. I asked them to substitute spicy yellowtail for spicy tuna -- exactly the same price and both previously prepared, and they agreed only for $2 extra. (For what!?) They nicely said that if everyone asked for substitutions...blah blah (couldn't understand). The place was empty; only one other couple was there. Food -- i have been comparing Eel Avocado rolls (my favorite simple roll) and random special rolls all around Long island and Kotobuki is my winner by far (over Aji 53). At Kushi, the tempura flakes were stale, the eel chewy, and they spicy tuna and yellowtail very pasty in texture (you almost couldn't tell what it actually was). Ok, so this restaurant is placed randomly in a somewhat lonely, out of touch strip mall in the middle of nowhere of Long Island. I almost turned around and headed back on L.I.Expressway but I'm heading back home from being out east ALL Day and we are starving!!!! most of the time, you yelpers don't disappoint me when u provide high ratings so I took a deep breath and braved my way in!!! Like I said... When u park and see the place, u might be hesitant to actually walk in and dine here. Walk in w the expectation that you're in the middle of Long Island and w the expectation of 4 stars experience and you will be pleased. Service was awesome. Place is quite tiny w 1 bathroom stall for all to share which tells me, they don't get a lot of customers here all at once but once again, I convinced myself u yelpers better be right about this spot! The free appetizer was a nice touch!! I'm feeling a little bit more at ease. Sashimi regular was satisfying but most of all, I appreciate how they made the 3 California roll dinner entree.They were quite generous w the fillings and rolled w/less rice. Nice! Other party who's a non sushi eater,ordered the chicken Katsu. The price is reasonable for what you get. Don't expect any ambiance or background music to set any tone. Kushi is by far the best sushi I've ever had. The crazy salmon roll is to die for and there Fried rice is thr best I've ever had. We cheated on them when they were closed for a bit at the start of the quarantine but it didn't come close and we're so happy they're open again. This is one of the best food spots on the island. Just went back to this place last and Friday and today, what can I say, the service is still the same, quality and welcoming, what I found out is that this is actually a family owned restaurants, the chefs are brother in laws and the waitress are married to the chefs, and one of the waitress actually spent years in Japan. Me and chefs actually got to talk and his passion in pursuit of quality is clearly what made this restaurant so successful. I ordered uni(sea urchin) and I usually eat them last because is my favorite, the chef actually walked up to me and asked me why I wasn't eating it, he thought that the uni was bad and offered to take it back, I told him my intention and he told me that he actually tries the fish out after they are delivered and if the fish isn't up to par he would not buy it and rather eat it himself. He told me to never to go on Friday and Saturday night because the crowd is huge and wait list is more than 40 minutes some times, and they simply can not keep up and accommodate all the people waiting since the restaurant is so small. read more

We couldn't get into our usual spot and while waiting someone told us to try here it was just as good if not better. What an understatement. The restaurant is small and everyone was incredibly friendly. We ordered kani salad and beef negamaki to start and everything came out fast and with a complimentary spicy tuna appetizer. We then ordered 3 specialty rolls that were some of the best sushi I've ever had that we had to order another roll after those. When you get to this area, it may not look like much from the outside, but completely worth it to come here. I was only here for a short time but I'm already looking forward to the next meal here. The staff are very attentive and welcoming the moment you step through the door. The owner tries to make an effort to go around and meet with everyone. Waitresses are very nice and helpful. Truly a 5 star experience for me, from start to finish. Please note that I am comparing this place to other places located on long island and places that are in the same price range. I am NOT comparing Kushi Sushi to Sushi Yasuda or Nobu...just a disclaimer. Who would have thought, a small, hole in a wall type place that puts out amazing sushi. We haven't tried much of their raw fish assortment, but a few of the cooked fish items we had were absolutely amazing. They made sure that the rolls not only taste good, they also present them in a beautiful way. The prices are moderate, their special rolls may seem expensive, but trust me, they are large. Regular rolls are great as well, I especially liked how little rice they used...yum! Service was great as well, we left very happy. Excited to have found this place. This fresh sushi place is nestled in a shopping center in Nesconset . The owners Nate and Joy treat you like family . Not like these other sushi places where they just throw food at you. The fish is sooo fresh , Nate won't pick up fish that week if its not off the boat fresh . I cannot say enough about this place . But the more I do the harder it is to get in on weekend .!
