I would get my usual G1. hu tieu dai Thap cam and my man would order their bun rieu and our special calamari appetizer . We were always greeted by the owner . She is passionate in her dishes and shares with us how fresh it is . No msg in her cooking and I enjoy how flavorful her food is . I recently came here back for their pho . Clean broth , tender meat, and very satisfying! I don't doubt many of her dishes are exceptional. I keep this restaurant close to my heart given that this is the place me and my partner would go to often late nights and that memory hasn't changed . We went to KV Noodle while we were in town visiting friends. We wanted to treat them to dinner, and they wanted soup, so Pho felt like a good option. We used to live in the neighborhood, but never managed to make it to KV Noodle. First, they only have a few vegetarian options -- just the stir fry and the fried rice. That said, the staff were very friendly and pointed out the vegetarian options they could make us. We ordered the stir fry with tofu. It was delicious. I didn't have high expectations, but it was great. It was spiced well, the tofu and veggies were nice and smoky (very unique!). I also loved the broken rice it came with. KV Noodle is such a hidden gem here especially if you crave Viet food late at night. This place is open until 12AM weekdays and 2AM on weekends. We got here around 11 on a Saturday and it was super busy. The owner was able to get us seated super quickly and she made our experience amazing. The menu here is pretty large so it was really hard to choose what to order because everything looked so good. Starting off, we ordered the shrimp and meat spring rolls. The sauce is super peanut buttery and thick which we loved so much. The wonton soup here is my favorite. They make all of their wontons in house so they are super fresh and yummy! My boyfriend loves their hu tieu dai because of how sweet and chewy the noodles are. We also had the bun rieu which was good but noodles were not cooked all the way and broth wasn't as flavorful as everything else. Coconut juice was also amazing paired with everything. Overall, this is the best place to have Viet food late at night. The service is great and fast even though they only have 1/2 front workers. The owner was super nice and sociable with all of the customers. She let us know that they close the store quite late most days because a lot of people in the area like to eat later! As for the rice plate, the beef was a little overcooked, flavorful but over salted. The onions were barely cooked and had a strong sulphur presence/bite to it. Mediocre beef brisket pho and was let down, not as good as many other Vietnamese shops around the area and San Jose is a Vietnamese food mecca, and I brought my Vietnamese friend who was visiting all the way from Orange County! My pho was pretty watered down, the meat was okay. He got a beef plate dish that was mediocre but nothing amazing. There is a banner outside that says they have happy hour deals but it is outdated and the staff working there that day said that is from a previous owner; they should probably take that down because we were hoping to try that deal out lol. read more

Hu tieu kho (dry version) and bun rieu was soooo good. One of the best bun rieu I've had, the meatball had real crab meat and soup was sweet and flavorful. Pho was good as well. Only complaint is their portions for pho and hu tieu are a bit small. Their regular seemed more like a small size and their large seemed like a medium or regular size. The service quick and attentive. The people working there seemed to be happy working there. And the food!!! I'll dream about that shrimp tempura tonight. The menu has changed a bit from some of the photos in other reviews-they no longer have the crispy noodles. Do we tried the combination yellow noodles (dry) and it did not disappoint. Came here craving Vietnamese beef stew! Wasn't confident ordering when I saw it wasn't served with bread. I hadn't had it with noodles before but I felt I should try it anyways to have it a new way. The workers were very kind. I was happy to order and eat here to support their business. I don't think the beef stew is how I like it normally but it wasn't too bad. The chicken pho was a bit heavier than what we are used to and it wasn't hot enough just sorta warm. I saw some responses say to ask for refund but that is not something i've ever done or would feel comfortable doing unless the food was truly terrible. Menu is simple with many options. We started with the Salt and Pepper Prawns and Fried Quail. The Salt and Pepper Prawns was very tasty with a bell peppers and onions that enhanced the flavors. The Quail is perfect to go with a beer, but if you had to pick one to snack on, go for the Salt and Pepper Prawns. The soups here are the main stars. Very tasty, piping hot and full of flavor... My colleague wanted pho for her birthday dinner because she was craving so I happened to find this place in downtown SJ; a plus, it opens late compared to the other pho spots. The ambiance is clean, modern, and spacious. There is even a bar for drinks, had I known I would have had drinks here before going to a bar. There wasn't many people dining during the week but our server, Kathy, was quite attentive to us even though we asked her to come back three times since my friend and I were catching up. The food is very delicious and portions were fairly sized. For appetizers, it was our first time having taro egg rolls and they were delicious although I wish there were more than just 3 (priced $8). I ordered brisket pho and my friend ordered wonton soup with yellow noodle. My broth was delicious; clear and not cloudy. The meat portions were fairly portioned in my pho and I was happy with it! I ordered chicken chow fun for take out for my husband. He said it was good but needed more chicken, so next time, I think its better to have in person rather than ordering to go. Overall, service and food were decent and better than many of pho places around. KV Noodle is probably one of the top ones in downtown SJ. Portions could be better but the prices are decent or at least on par. Loved the clear noodle in the Combination clear & yellow noodle (G6). This is basically the hu tieu nam vang dish. I suggest you get soup on the side, eat half of it then take a few sips of the broth and then dump it into the main bowl. Also, dont forget to squirt the lemon in after a few bites as well. If you do this youll literally get 3 different dishes in one dish. The changes in flavor are noticeable and delicious. Also, while I loved the clear noodle so much more than the yellow/egg noodle, I still like ordering it like this just for the change in noodle texture. Also got the E3, Banh tuoi tom togo. I actually pointed at the Fresh noodles bo kho (beef stew), but I guess he mistook it for something else. I didnt check the receipt when I left so I didnt notice the mistake so that kinda sucked...This was just ok. I have no complaints except its a pretty basic dish that I wouldnt have ordered to begin with even at other restaurants. The shrimp were large and in charge though, which I do like. There are so many great hu tieu places in San Jose but I opted to come here because it was later in the evening and it had so many positive reviews. Looks can be so deceiving - food looked amazing but I was very disappointed with both our orders. My soup was bland, lukewarm, and the hu tieu thap cam was overly sweet. When I came for dinner, it was pretty slow overall but our server did not bother to check up on us besides taking our order. Even thought it was cooked very well, it wasn't dry at all. The veggies (onions and bell peppers) were also stir fried well and didn't have their raw overpowering taste. KV Noodle is the place you think of when you want a hip, upscale pho restaurant. It's got the mood, the atmosphere of a bar/dive restaurant. But there's a caveat to that. Being originally from California, I moved to Texas and got the taste of "everything is bigger in Texas". Unfortunately, that isn't wrong. For a "large" bowl here at KV Noodle, you get maybe a few forks full of noodle before it's all gone. The price also is astronomical for what you get. I ended up paying $55 for 2 appetizers, a bowl of pho, and a coffee. As for the pho bowl, my closed fist was almost larger than the bowl itself! Service is decent, you're sat down quickly, offered a menu and checked up upon after a little bit. Sadly, I had to ask for refills on my water rather than being checked in with. Not a terrible thing, but for how empty it was at the time, you'd expect better service. We got our food pretty quickly after ordering, so there's definitely an upside to the high prices, perhaps. Would I come back? No. I'm not paying nearly $60 for 2 appetizers, a coffee, and a bowl of noodles. In Texas, $60 was the price you'd pay for 4 bowls and 2 appetizers. read more
