My husband's old co-workers used to go to this restaurant to get chow mein, and I've been wanting to check it out. It's located in sketchy area, and I wouldn't feel comfortable going there alone. There was a mattress just outside that homeless people must sleep on at night. I ordered chicken chow mein and chicken fried rice. Their prices are very reasonable for the amount of food that you get. I liked the fried rice much more that the chow mein. Unfortunately, I don't think I'd ever go back. read more

The food here is delicious and made fresh!!! We ordered the chicken with shrimp fried rice plate and the beef & broccoli plate which were both really really good!!!!!!!! The service was quick and food came out within 10-15 minutes. They do get a lot of foot traffic so it's best if you order in or else you might to wait longer if you come during rush hours. As much as I try to come back and be a client at this restaurant. I just can't, we been coming here since the 90's and something just makes me not want to come back at all. They took too long to make the friend rice, we got the mixed combo and it barely even had a shrimp, steak or chicken. Hubs been mentioning about this Chinese restaurant that is known supposedly for their superb fried rice. He brought it up after getting his 1st vaccine of Pfizer at the Cal Poly Pomona campus. Went there finally after his 2nd dose to pick up to go. The fried rice was flavorful indeed just that the chicken meat was a bit dry along w the shrimp. Also as per other yelpers. There was about 5-6 pieces of shrimp and the chicken meat was different variety size of chopped up pieces. My husband said it is definitely a hole in a wall place and he probably wouldn't go back. My middle son who's picky with food loved it though. The box is a pretty decent size. Like half the size of a standard Chinese to go box combo. The depth is pretty good. This has been one of my favorite 'hole-in-the-wall' restaurants for years. I haven't ben in a while. But at my most recent visit last month it was evident that the quality of the business has declined. The restaurant was messy and looked dirty. The area behind the counter looked unkept and disorganized. If what's visible to the customer is lacking, I can onlybimagine the conditions of the kitchen or areas we cannot see. Food: The chilli sauce was watered down and lacked flavor as if it water was added to it to make it stretch. In the past, it was a vibrant red, thick in texture, and really spicy. Typically, I cannot eat spicy foods and will only put a tiny drop in my rice for flsvor. This time I had to use the entire cup and it stll meeded more/help. Nonetheless, the food was still good and I will likely go back. I just try not to think of this visuals when I'm eating my food. read more

Longtime faithful patron of Kwon's. When we first discovered this little gem ten years ago, it resembled more an "ugly duckling" than viable place for a great meal. Fact is, for many years the building stood with no signage other than "Chinese Food" in large block letters! So while Kwon's will never be confused with the more aesthetically pleasing, swankier establishments in the Chinatowns of LA or San Francisco, they turn out a never ending procession of fried rice and chow mein dishes, done almost perfectly. The chow mein comes in large, ungainly Styrofoam boxes crammed with approximately three pounds of glistening, thick noodles, slivered celery, carrots and scallions and your protein of choice. While I personally prefer the skinnier noodle that most Chinese restaurants utilize, my wife and kids love Kwon's take on chow mein. We usually choose shrimp or chicken, double meat. Did I mention the fried rice?! Kwon's fried rice is served in the same 3lb Styrofoam vats large enough to easily feed 2-3 persons, with leftovers. The fried rice is substantial, griddled to a golden crisp and served with copious amounts of alfalfa sprouts and scallions alongside your choice of protein. For our money, we choose the chicken fried rice, double meat. We top it with liberal amounts of their provided hot sauce and believe me when I say that one order each of chicken chow mein & chicken fried rice (both double meat) will effortlessly fill up your Family of four or five, with leftovers. Don't be surprised if you find yourself drifting off into a carbohydrate-fueled nap 25 minutes after demolishing your fried rice!! You've been warned- three vital tips for successful meal at Kwons: 1.) Call your order in ahead of time to avoid the steady rush of customers; 2.) Order the double meat chow mein + fried rice ($20 will feed four or five persons, w/ leftovers) 3.) Put your car alarm on, as it's situated in one of Pomona's grittier climates.
