Went for dinner to Kyoto and overall it was mid. It was good but definitely not great. We have been to better Hibachi Grills in the STL area. The overall atmosphere was outdated and felt dirty. The food was good and cooked well but the grill area had a weird red line (could be rust but didn't want to touch it). First of all, it is August 20th. the air conditioner wasn't on. We asked if they had a fan, they said no. We were sweltering. My hair was wet, my underclothes were wet. My shirt was stuck to the chair. I ate all of my ice and asked for more. Our Chef got the orders messed up. He gave another group their Mahi Mahi. He had to go to the kitchen and get mine, by that time the other food was overcooked. They were missing extra added items an he had to go get more food from the kitchen. Everything was over salted from a ton of soy sauce and very oily. Our chef asked someone to bring him something 3 times and had to end up going after it himself. We had to run down the server to pay our bill. There was so much chaos it was all disturbing. I ate my salad and a couple of other bites, but it was so hot I was nauseous. I felt as if I would barf. This place is horrible. My family and I frequent teppanyaki and hibachi style cooking restaurants involving grilling food in front of you over an open flame. This was my first visit to this particularly chain. We ordered two hibachi style meals, one for my oldest son and one for my husband. My youngest son and I as well as husband order sushi hand rolls as well as a side of fried rice as well.. We also ordered saki, cocktail and appetizers which was edamame. Ask for ginger dressing, they brought both salads with ranch, asked to omit egg on 2 servings of rice, he put egg in all the rice. Edamame was bland, saki came so late. Sushi took forever, so we asked questions and I canceled my sushi order ( I had eaten the lil side salad plus I had better food at home) and had them to go ahead and make my son's order..he was hungry..he had only eaten rice thus far. My other two were finished and looking for to-go containers by now..we truly believe they had forgotten all about the sushi..It came after my son and husband finished eating their hibachi and of course after we questioned about it.. lady stated they were busy...in sushi area... Maybe it was due to call in orders or a HUGE SUSHI catering order because there wasn't many people in the restaurant. I taste one of my sons rolls and it was gross..rice texture was horrible and it was served on a chip ceramic plate. I showed it to the lady that brought it and she just laughed, waved and said " aw chef did that hehe"... I just took it off the plate and re-plated it onto the plate my son rice was on..in hopes no glass chips were present. Family and I have been here several times. Like most Japanese Steakhouses they have the hibachi grills where they cook in front of you. This restaurant also has another section where you can order off the menu just like a traditional Japanese/Chinese restaurant. The servers and cooks always do a good job. The menu is pretty standard for this industry, and you get plenty to eat with the meal. One nice thing about this particular restaurant is from time to time they have a coupon available for buy one meal get the second meal half price. The only thing you have to remember is they required a printed copy of this coupon to be presented to the server. Prices are pretty consistent for a Japanese steakhouse. Avoid at all costs. Hostess stand is a disaster, some people are given hand written numbers and others actual paper weights. We were told 30 minute wait, we arrived at 530 and 8pm have no food. When we were seated the cups we were given for water were filled with ice and had pink juice in the bottom. Upon pointing this out he brought a tray of water bottles to the table. The glasses were obviously dirty. The soup was cold, and at this pint of it wasn't a family occasion I would have been walked out. Yikes. I cannot imagine the food grade they have. Went for lunch in the main dining room which was vacant & very cold. After 10+ minutes with no help my hubby went to the hostess and asked when we would be helped and she moved us into the hibachi room. We waited 45 minutes with our waiter not coming back to our table other than to serve our drinks while we waited on 5 other people to fill our table so the chef could cook. Our chef went through his "show" very fast only going through the motions, hardly spoke, and by the time the food servings came to our side of the table he was short on food and our portion was EXTREMELY small. I got 4 shrimp to everyone else's 8 and 6 bites of steak to everyone else's mound. The couple that got served first directly across from us even laughed at our portions towards the end of the meal stating to our chef "you keep falling short on food for them" Which he smiled but disregarded. My salad was in a watery bath of dressing that made for a soggy salad. No refills on drinks. The atmosphere is simple, but pleasant. When you first walk in, you see a podium and that's about it, besides some chairs farther to the left. They were very accommodating for for gluten free dining!! We had called ahead of time to get an idea about how it all works with ordering at a hibachi restaurant and the employee who answered the phone was very kind and helpful. He also helped us at the restaurant because I wanted him and the wait staff to be aware of the allergy situation, which they were once again, very considerate about. The service was slow. The table next to me arrived after I did. They were gone before my food even arrived to my table. I ordered the filet mignon and lobster tail. The lobster was seriously overcooked and tasted awful. The noodles served with the dish had a very weird taste. I was only able to try it once. We love to come here for special occasions, the food is always delicious and great drinks. We always prefer to do the hibachi.

This place is a dud. To start, they charge you $8 just to sit at the table (during Covid). So the party your with can come spend $1000 and if one person out the bunch doesn't eat, they are going to tack on that extra $8. Secondly, this is more like a reject Benihana, they need a gut rehab, the decor just looks old and ancient. Kind of like an old Karate movie. 3rdly, you're basically paying for the Chef to engulf the grill in a flame and set some onions on fire. $50 a head on average, (no drinks included). I was taken Here for my birthday with a reservation for 3, I even arrived five minutes early. When I got there there were three other gentleman that came directly behind me without a reservation. Instead of seating me the hostess look behind me to speak with three gentlemen and ask them where they ready to be seated mind you I have already checked inFor my reservation. The gentleman behind me spoke on my behalf and told the hostess that I was here first with my reservation so you should seat me first. The hostess made a big deal out of having to seat me and my party first so when she gave my seat away the party that she gave it to then gave me their seats once I was seated that party was so disgusted with her treatment of me that they left all together. Once our food had Come I received a phone call being that it was my birthday it was my grandmother so I went outside to take the call, My fiancé and Son were still seated. My son had to go to the restroom so my fiancé got up to take him letting the waiter know that he would be right back. Not even halfway to the bathroom the waiter runs after my fiancé with check in hand thinking that we were dining and dashing I was mortified. I will never dine here again. Won't really go back. I ordered the Sashimi and Sushi deluxe combo. I tried to order two pieces of sea urchin sashimi, but they didn't actually have any. So was disappointing to find that out without any warning. I also ordered two eel sashimi. I got my food and ate my eel first since Eel is my favorite. I found bones in both of my pieces. I never have found bones in my eel before, so this was a first for me and was really unexpected. Now, the Sashimi and Sushi deluxe combo came with 9 pieces of sashimi, 6 pieces of nigir and a california roll. It didn't really say which type of sashimi or nigiri would come with it other then "An assortment". The sashimi was only three different types of fish with three pieces of each, so it was lacking the assortment part of the description. They were very big pieces and honestly, bland and mushy. This was the first time I have Ever eaten any sashimi and actually thought it needed wasabi or soy sauce. They were also big, so each piece was two or three bites. Would have enjoyed the size if the fish was any good. Good sashimi shouldn't be Mushy. The same thing is able to be said for the nigiri. It just didn't have any taste to it. I started with the salmon sashimi since it is one of my favorites. It was so bland that I was disappointed. I ate the rest with soy sauce, again, a first time for me. I tried the wasabi, and it didn't really have a taste to it either. The waitress was also very inattentive. At the end of the meal, I was wanting to maybe try a few more things, but we got the check so quickly that we couldn't even ask about getting more. She never offered to refill our drinks and over all was missing most of the time. I won't be going back. The sashimi is just not the quality I have come to expect. Went last night. Disappointing. We go to hibachi partially for the 'show' of food preparation and, other than banging on the tray after emptying it there was none. I stopped in on my lunch hour to try this place out for the first time. The inside of the restaurant is very nice. I was greeted fairly quickly and invited to sit either at the grill, or at the regular restaurant. I opted for the regular seating since I had a limited amount of time. I ordered the Philly roll and the Teriyaki Steak lunch. The sushi came out very quickly (which was a pleasant surprise), and was very good. The salad that came with my steak was excellent. A little overdressed, but I loved the salad dressing so I'm not complaining! The steak came out still sizzling and had a very good flavor, cooked just the way I asked. I'll start by saying that I travel to a different city weekly. And in each City I try to find a good Japanese Steakhouse for the entertainment, camaraderie, and good Japanese cooking. I found none of the above at Kyoto. When I arrived I was told there was a 10-minute wait. I understood this as I ama solo diner and they needed to fill out the grill table. The wait was over a half hour by the time I was finally seated at a grill table. The setup at Kyoto has to grill tables backing up against each other which is fairly common in most Japanese restaurants. What was not common was when they filled both grill tables with a total of 15 people. They were only two servers in attendance for the entire restaurant and it was very busy. The servers consisted of a woman acting as bartender and another woman acting as Hostess in addition to being servers. That being said it took another half hour to even get our drinks, soups and salads. When the chef arrive between the two grill tables, he began to cook simultaneously on both grills for all 15 people at once. He acted more like a short-order cook than a professional Hibachi chef. Squirting oil willy-nilly on the grills igniting the traditional Flames without warning or any sort of flair. He began to cook the fried rice on one Grill while he had noodles going on the second Grill. The fried rice was then slap tasked with soy sauce big chunks of egg and not mixed or cooked properly. Meanwhile the noodles on the other Grill were left unattended and began to scorch. You could smell it in the air. He began to serve the fried rice with all the Finesse of a prison cafeteria line server, smacking the rice down onto each plate with little or no care. He then proceeded to put the mixed vegetables on the first Grill while he half-heartedly tossed the noodles with more soy no other seasoning and then began to serve those again with no finesse whatsoever slapping the noodles down on top of people's fried rice with noise and splatter. I could see the looks of confusion and displeasure on the faces of the other diners around the grill tables. The vegetables on the first grow by this time had begun to Scorch on one side and we're totally uncooked on the other merely warmed through he placed all the protein back on the second Grill at once including steak salmon, Lobster and scallops. It was time to serve the vegetables again they were just tossed on each individual's plate without any care in regards to placement mine were placed on top of the already messy plate of noodles and rice. One woman was ignored completely when she told the chef he did not want vegetables and they were placed on her plate sloppily anyway. By this time I was watching the salmon, Lobster oh, and scallops begin to Scorch on one side totally unattended while he was serving and trying to handle 15 people at 1 when he flipped the lobster, it was black on one side I watched scallop order sit on one side for over 8 minutes. It was obvious that they would be scorched on one side and horribly overdone. At this point I signaled the hostess / server and ask for my check I informed her I would pay for my sake but I would not pay for such a carelessly prepared and served meal. I gave my sentiments out loud saying that it was too much for a Hibachi chef to run two grills at once the chef then responded that he could handle two grills and I replied with obviously you can't. I do understand that in these times it has been hard for restaurants to hire enough employees. But over extending their capabilities at the cost of good food and good customer service is not a good restaurant business practice. read more

However, once seated, we had to wait about 20 minutes for our server since our shared table was not fully. But once he started, we were not disappointed. I ordered a veggie plate with all the sides. I give it a 4.5 stars for the food. I came here late at night and there was nobody but just a couple in this whole restaurant! Now I don't mind it, but it was awfully too quite. None the less, I order sushi rolls and I have to say, it's amazing! They also have special rolls and they take 20% off the rolls. I love that! I wished I knew earlier so I would of gone more often when I was around the area. Now I know, I'll have to come back for more! Moving on to the service, man it was bad.
